The service was great. Ambiance was awesome. Very old school. Loved it. The food was good too!

This famous place has lots of lore. It was a mob hangout for Carlos Marcello. Cormac McCarthy wrote about it in his last novel and Calvin Trillin raved in the New Yorker. I totally don't get it. There are a dozen other places in NOLA who make better Italian. It's very old school. Looks like a shack. Service good and sweet waitresses. Decor lacking. Crab salad had very little crab in it. Bread very good and plentiful. I had spaghetti and one meatball. It was just OK. The only pasta is Angel hair which doesn't hold up well with a heavy red gravy. Husband had chicken cacciatore which was OK but very salty. Friend had Italian sausage which had no anise in it and was very dry. Desserts are limited to "pineapple fluff" (passed!), tira misu and lemon bars. Cost about $50 each, no alcohol. Full bar. Free parking. Wear a sweater as it's freezing!! If you use credit card there's a 3% up charge.

This is a very generous three stars. I've wanted to try Mosca's for years. I'm a former Chicagoan and New Orleanian and half Italian. I cannot tell you what the hype is all about here. It was a boring meal, slow service, middle of nowhere, and cash only. Usually cash-only is an automatic one star unless they are very clear about it. The crab salad was pretty good. The "signature" baked oysters were a snooze fest. The service was slow. The menu was rather narrow, disclaming "we're not your typical Italian spot, we don't do chicken parm". First item on the menu? Spaghetti. From a guy who was a regular at Gene & Georgetti, I just don't get the attraction.

Cash only but been there many times! And still delish. Try to bring at least 4 people with you as all the dishes are served family style. My favorites are Mosca's Italian crab salad and Shrimp Mosca. Don't for get to try the Oysters Mosca too! Also love the Chicken a la Grande and tried my first ever chicken cacciatore. I'm afraid to try chicken cacciatore anywhere else because I'm sure I will be disappointed. I always love their Spaghetti and Bordelaise. The staff treats you like guests in their homes. This time I enjoyed their Decoy Sauvignon Blanc with my feast. Pro tip - do not eat anything the day of visit and wear dark stretchy clothes-you're welcome!

The perfect classic Italian restaurant. Great for large groups. Service is always good. We went with 10 people which is the perfect way to enjoy this family style restaurant. Everyone loves the oysters Mosca.. my favs are the shrimp Mosca and the Italian crab salad! So good! I wish we had leftovers! It is totally worth the drive to the middle of nowhere!

Great family restaurant. This is one of my son's favorite places. The portions are meant to be served family style, so come hungry and ready to share. The shrimp mosca is my favorite. The white wine sauce goes great with their bread. Also, it's nice to have an Italian restaurant with an Eat Fit menu!

Delicious, great staff and nice atmosphere. Oysters Mosca is amazing!!! Kind of costly but great for a special occasion.

I can tell you that I doubt it takes me more than 40 days to make my 2nd trip. I love this place! Frankie and Johnny's has a typical Nola neighborhood restaurant feel with a little dive bar quality sprinkled in. I got a Jucifer Hazy IPA to start, and they probably have 8 or so beers on tap with even more in bottles and cans. They also have a full bar. I ordered a Ferdi (half ham, half roast beef) and a cup of gumbo. The chicken and sausage gumbo was delicious! The roux was dark, the seasoning was perfect and the temperature was piping hot. The Ferdi was equally delish. The bread came out crisp as it was put in the oven for the cheese to melt. Perfect. The meal was so simple but amazing. I will definitely be back to explore more of the menu, but it will be hard not to get the Ferdi and gumbo again.

We ordered the 1/2 onion rings and 1/2 bell peppers. Truth be told, the peppers were better than the onion rings. I also had the amazing seafood gumbo, cooked in a dark roux. I then split a fried shrimp poboy with a friend. All were great and Terrell, our server, made sure we were well taken care of! This place is quickly becoming a must stop for me! I love the local feel and family, friendly atmosphere. Bonus points if you can get Mark, the bartender to smile. :)

Our server, Christopher, was very attentive, suggested wine pairings, and gave us great recommendations. We started with the charbroiled oysters which is a must. They were large and charred to perfection on the outside grill, topped with parm and breadcrumbs. My friends ordered the filet and the gulf fish, and I had the charred cabbage entree, with a French gerwurztraminer blend. The mushrooms with the blue cheese sauce were so rich and delicious! Sweet treats were a no brainer. The blue cheese flan was creamy and decadent. A perfect ending to the meal. This is so far my fave restaurant in New Orleans. The moment you step into Atchafalaya, you realize it. Ambience is amazing, quirky, cool, homey and cozy. Staff is amazing. We sat in our own private room and were treated to a very special delight of a dinner. I tried the incredible fried green tomatoes, the seafood soup (?) and the incredible steak...wow, everything was amazing.
