We have been here many times before and enjoyed the food and drinks. We went on the Fourth of July as we were excited about having lunch at the distillery, especially about the distillery burger. Unfortunately, the exhaust in the kitchen was not working properly, which was causing smoke inside the kitchen, so they couldn't make the burgers. So we decided to get the chicken sandwich and the seafood platter. We noticed they downsized the seafood platter as we had this plate before. Before, they would serve three pieces of fish and now only one, and light on calamari and prawns. The fries were soggy and cold. The chicken sandwich had no taste. For drinks, I had a vodka martini straight up, which was fine, and my partner had a Caipirinha which fell a bit short. The service was OK. We had lunch here to celebrate a friend's birthday. I had the Cioppino after seeing so many people around order it. And boy was I glad I did. It was the very best Cioppino I've had! This place is right on the water, in a residential area, so unexpected, yet so old fashion Charming! Views for days!!! Took my mom here for lunch for her birthday along with a couple of dogs so we sat outside, we went towards the end of the lunch rush without reservations so we did get lucky to find a table outside, there's lots of dogs on the patio so be weary of that if you're worried about your dog and how they might react, there were dogs of all shapes and sizes at majority of the tables. The food itself was good, my server was very friendly and helped find alternatives for me since I can't have gluten, it was very nice how accommodating they were with this. Moss Beach Distillery is an all around superb experience and is very deserving of the many accolades it has. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone living in the area or passing by. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because I haven't fully experienced it as we sat in the bar area, but I will certainly be returning and updating my review! Suggestion: Make a reservation and request a window table in one of the dining rooms. I get the feeling this place is constantly in high demand and would imagine that is only moreso on weekends. Service: We came in on a Sunday afternoon and they didn't have any available window seating in the main dining rooms, but they did have a table in the bar area with some nice views so we took that. The bar area, means you have to order your food and drinks at the bar instead of a server coming to your table. The bartender was very friendly and efficient. Food: Outstanding! I ordered the Prawns and Chips which were by far the best prawn/shrimp meal I have ever tasted. I'm pretty sure the batter was seasoned in some way making for an extra flavorful experience and both the prawns and fries were fried to a crisp perfection. My wife ordered the Beet-Madarin Salad and a French Onion Soup. I tasted all of it and there were no misses, the food is a definite go! Prices are moderate for the area and certainly worth it. Ambiance: Historic and cozy with some fantastic views. The building has quite the history and was an active participant in bootlegging during the prohibition era. Apparently it is haunted as well, but we regrettably didn't do much exploring. There are a few dining rooms with excellent views as well as the bar area where we ate. This place is consistently good and one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The view of the ocean is spectacular, even on those cloudy days. They have an outdoor patio with fire pits, which is awesome for drinks and apps. I always sit out there first before going inside for my entrée. The skirt steak is wonderful every time, the pesto salmon is super tender and delicious, and don't sleep on the seafood quesadilla. The apps are also pretty good. I typically go for the calamari and artichoke hearts. There's a sesame coleslaw that comes with the calamari and it's actually delicious. Food and service was excellent. The interior of the restaurant could use some TLC., but the views are impeccable, so you almost don't notice. The bathroom was very dingy, and definitely needs an upgrade. Of course I understand that the place is a historical landmark; however, you can have something feel old and still taken care of. What a cute place to eat and joy some time at Half Moon Bay. It's in the middle of a residential area, so it doesn't have as much parking available. I'd suggest making a reservation to ensure you have a spot. You can eat indoors or outdoors and enjoy the view. I had no idea that it had some history about being haunted by the Blue Lady. I think it's the Blue Lady. Anyways, she's all over the place in the restaurant. Didn't get a visit from her, but I definitely started freaking myself out in the restroom that she'd come and start laughing while I was there alone or something. haha. Food was great. Food was to die for! Almost every dish was perfect! Halibut special was bland and watery but not comp was offered for the unsavory dish.

The only thing that makes this place worth visiting is the view. Ordered four things and two coffees - 1. Fried Artichoke hearts. They were good enough but not out of this world amazing. I wouldn't order again... I would try something else 2. Fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked. The tartar sauce had minimal acid and pickle to it which was disappointing. The slaw was a Mayo bomb, also not the best and the chips are were cheap fries 3. Fish tacos. The pico was sooo good. Super fresh, the right amount of acid. Tortillas tasted homemade which I loved. We got one fried and one grilled. The grilled was over grilled... not the best and it reminded me of tilapia vs cod. It was super thin and not meaty at all 4. Kale and quinoa salad. Presumably ghosts are exempt from CDC guidance which makes me believe she should do all her haunting and howling from a safe distance. As the proprietors describe the building, it used to be a speakeasy in the Roaring Twenties, and the Blue Lady was the victim resulting from an illicit love affair. She was walking on the beach below with her lover and well... This was in the days before social media so no one was texting about it, so it remains in a cloak of mystery which the owners use to their marketing advantage. As you can see below, it's been quite a few years since my last visit here, and I was apparently channeling the Blue Lady herself in my review. She was a funny adulterer, the poor thing. Recently, I've passed by the restaurant with some frequency simply because it's on my scenic walking route between the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve and Pillar Point. Suddenly, it has become a convenient stop for me to have a late lunch along the way, so I decided to revisit the place as it continues to recover from its pandemic-based closure. It wasn't too surprising to see the surf-and-turf menu little changed in fourteen years. On my first visit back and sitting in the main dining room, I ordered the $13 bowl of Distillery Clam Chowder. I thought it was pretty good, just thicker than I prefer New England-style chowder though the packaged oyster crackers provided a welcome crunch (photo: https://bit.ly/3MEegKn). The $23.50 Prawn Louie was my main entree, and while it had all the right ingredients, including five charred prawns in a row, the dish felt a little contrived as it was disassembled in a way where you had to maneuver it awkwardly into an actual salad (photo: https://bit.ly/3y35VvQ). I came back a few weeks later and decided not to repeat the same order. This time, I threw caution to the wind and sat on their terrace where the wind kept blowing my order number down. In an unexpectedly risky move, I also ordered the $19 Veggie Quesadilla which was not only overpriced but also the handmade corn tortilla had a strange texture, more like injera than masa. Perhaps it was authentic, but it didn't quite satisfy my taste. First timers , checked it out to see if it's what I wanted for my birthday celebration.
