I have been to Moulin several times for the food and the convenience. The place is a walking distance from where we stay when in Dana Point. I tried several of their pastries - egg custard pie (i think that's what it's called), almond croissant, chocolate croissant, eclair and others. Also tried their sandwiches - chicken pesto sandwich, egg sandwich and ham & cheese which are all on baguettes. All the pastries & sandwiches I tried were great but pricey. I ordered 2 almond croissants, a chocolate croissant, a slice of the egg custard pie, ham & cheese sandwich and a chicken pesto sandwich. My total tab was $45+ without tip. When I go there to grab some croissants (chocolate & almond), my tab is usually around $18+. Much as I would like to eat their croissants every day, I only occasionally indulge not only for the calories but also the price. To get served one forms line and someone helps to take your order as you view the choices. It usually goes pretty fast. The shop has several tables and chairs outside and a couple inside. The setting is like a French sidewalk cafe / bakery. I would definitely recommend but don't over order or you'll be surprised when you pay your tab. read more

Overpriced food trying to be Parisian. The espresso was sour tasting, which usually means the machine hasn't been cleaned in a while. They charged me for the OJ, but it never was given to us. The already made sandwiches in the deli display were flavorless and the bread was extremely hard. The onion soup was flavorless and they used a "thickening" agent in it, which was off putting. Ambience is cute, plenty of outdoor seating and people watching on PCH. Recommend, going for a walk then coming here after to refuel and hydrate. It does get busy during the am hours so something to consider. The location is absolutely key to why it's so busy, conveniently on the border of salt creek beach and several hotels and residential communities. Regarding the food- it's nice, nothing really stood out that I can recommend, but nothing was bad either. Keep in mind this place closes at 3 pm and doesn't let you order online or call in an order on weekends. It is our fault that we showed up at 2 pm on a Saturday so they didn't have everything we wanted. I think it would be a great place to pick up picnic food and head over to Salt Creek. I got the croque madame which comes with an egg on top. I was able to eat it with a fork and knife easily in the to-go box. The tart was good but I'm not a huge chocolate fan. I want to come back another day and try more items. I'm still very excited to have them here in DP since we lack many good restaurants. read more

I walked in, ordered a coffee and they are very rude and short. I get that it's busy but I'm a customer. Then to add insult - I went to the bathroom and on my way I saw a pile of dog excrement someone had let their dog do (do). But wait, there's more - The bathroom, when I finally jumped over the pile of flies, had EVEN MORE excrement in there - human this time, I imagine. This place also takes the tips of the staff. I left a $20.00 tip to the nicest young lady that helped me and I asked to make sure SHE GOT THE TIP. No, was her quiet answer! Believe that? This business is right at the corner of the Ritz-Carton Dr & it is easy to recognizable. They are sharing the balcony seating area with the sandwich shop. They were busy most of the time. This is absolutely the best quiche in Orange County. Ready made sandwiches are often available for beach days. Proximity to Salt Creek shoreline is great. One of my favorite places to have a quick coffee and bite after a rigorous morning walk. read more

Really disappointed... that there are only five stars to give. Short story: quality coffee, amazing pastry, great croissants. Longer story: Gordon Ramsey once asked the management team of a restaurant, "Who is the most important person in the restaurant?" All of the people who worked there had different answers, and they all got it wrong. Many people working in restaurants get it wrong, as they think that it's the manager, or the owner, or the pastry chef, or the barrista. The staff at Moulin know the answer, they get it. The most important person in the restaurant is always... you, us, the customers. And Moulin gets it. Whether it's the fact that they listen to everything you say when you order, the comments you make, the questions you ask, or the fact that they taken the time to respond to every review, good and bad, the people here are focused on us, the customers. Now, what does that translate to? I've been fortunate to have lived in Europe for a while, and their coffee is a perfect mix of European flavor modified for the American palette. Flavorful but not bitter, delicious but not the punch in the face that cortado is. The cafe au lait was delicious. The croissant could have come from a bakery in St Germaine. Light, delicious, and like a weekend in Nice, over too soon. Both chocolate and coffee eclairs were intense. Perfect consistency, delicious flavor. Sooo yeah. I decided to come by this place for fun after a walk at the beach. It was my first time coming here and thought that I'd grab some coffee real quick before I took off to my next place. It looks like they have a nice selection of pretty authentic French and European style pastries. They list that they have coffee, and espressos and cappuccino, and I could see that there was a good espresso machine, and a good regular coffee pump thermos setup with fresh coffee. But when I got to the counter to order, the younger staff with the heavier accent took my order and I literally said I'd like a coffee with 2 shots of espresso, and she didn't seem like she got what I said. So after going back and forth like 4 times, and I literally said "I'm not sure how much more simply I could say it, I just want a regular coffee with 2 shots of espresso and a little almond milk if you have it" So I see her try to ring me up for just a double shot of espresso and I ask, ok but did you get the coffee part too? 5 time, she says still confused "so do you want a macchiato? or a latte?" also never making eye contact in this process. I said "for goodness sakes, I want a coffee, and two shots of espresso in the coffee" , upon which the slightly older staff member said " just put the espresso in the coffee, that's it" upon which see suddenly seemed to get it. Which was amazing because I'd said it like 5 times and the younger staff was rude and totally out of it. What was my cost for this super stressful order of coffee? $7.30! That's right, For a regular cup of coffee with two shots of espresso it was $7.30, which is completely astronomical. The older staff member was super nice and she got the coffee really quick, but between the off the charts stressful order, and the overpriced coffee, I'd call this first visit a pretty poor experience. The coffee itself when I finally got it after that whole ordeal to their credit tasted good, so there's that. But I don't see myself coming back here again or for coffee or for food that requires any conversation. I'm not mad and I forgive the girl that was so difficult because maybe it was her first day, and to their credit when I finally got my coffee it really did taste good, so that's a plus, but it definitely wasn't an enjoyable fun experience the way I had hoped when trying someplace new on a whim. Hopefully that's not their norm, but be forwarded. This might not be that fun new place to try out the way you hoped if you get to the counter when it's the younger staff member at the register. Because honestly, I can't think of an easier more standard order at any coffee place anywhere within a 300 mile radius than "regular coffee size, 2 shots of espresso please". My love for Moulin only grows after each visit and here I am visiting the newest location and watching my love grow even stronger. This is French artistry at its finest. Please do yourself a favor and enjoy the edible gifts that this amazing bakery is so generous enough to offer. Customer service is excellent. The employees know exactly what they're talking about and do it with elegance, kindness, and passion. This location doesn't have much of a selection but it makes it easier for those who are indecisive (as myself). I've had half of the bakery and pastry items and everything is perfect from taste and texture to presentation. I had the apricot tart while my cousins had the chocolate hazelnut and cube chocolat. We loved this little French bakery so much while we were in Dana Point for a few days that we had to return a few times. One of the mornings, we had breakfast there with a friend and it was quite enjoyable. The food was good, but I would say the multitude of pastries are the best part of the experience. Just standing there and having so many delicious choices was pretty amazing. They even have savory items which is not always the case with places like this in the US. I've been a frequent customer of Moulin Newport Beach. Love love their Viennoiseries and french bistro fare, croque monsieur, salads, sandwiches and coffees. They have a cute outdoor patio and plenty of parking. Even before COVID19, this was the patio to brunch at. I avoid the Laguna Beach location because parking stinks. Now...the Dana Point location is my new GO-TO for breakfast and brunch. It's a gem, and can't beat the address...2 Ritz Carlton. I'll see you there. read more

This place is too adorable and so delicious! My husband wanted a dessert for lunch (eye roll) and I was interested in tying one of the sandwiches. I got the Moulin- high recommend. It was so good! I love caprese and with the pesto chicken it was perfect. Hubs loved the dessert lunch. We also got some yummy coffee. The girl who helped us was super sweet and helpful. Fabulous! I love everything about this patisserie. Antoine is so welcoming & helpful with helping me decide what I want to try next. I think we've tried everything. When it's just me I love riding my bike there, ordering a Americana & a warm chocolate croissant, sit on the patio and catch up on my reading; news, social media, emails, etc. My husband has tried everything. His favorites are the quiche, the crepes, croissant breakfast sandwich & their omelettes. I order the quiche ahead of time when I am entertaining or asked to please bring something to a brunch. I also highly recommend picking up some of their delicious & beautifully decorated pastries to impress when entertaining. We have been regulars at Moulin Ritz Carlton/Dana Point location. their pastries are delicious. Their French Onion soup was one of our favorites. Recently it's been disappointing. They are using about half the amount of melted cheese on top. It use to cover the top and overflow the bowl. Now the cheese isn't even covering the soup. read more
