With regard to the owner's comment below: I would take you seriously but I can't because "your place" was not following "your rules" until someone cried about it. Your employees also remove their masks to speak to people since they can't be heard very well (I don't blame them), so do they really do any good? Like I said in my review, people in front of us were served with no masks. Solid standards! We just moved walking distance from this cute little place and were so excited to give it a try. On June 11, three days prior to me writing this, Orange County rescinded the mandatory mask order and shifted it to a 'strong recommendation'. There was quite a long line and we stood in it for about 20 minutes, with very little movement, but we were patient and excited to try it. We were not wearing masks, and neither were a number of other customers who were in line ordering with employees. A disgruntled customer in a mask confronted my boyfriend and I about why we were not wearing masks. Ironically, he was very pissed with us and looking for a fight about this, but standing about 18'' away from us which I'm pretty sure doesn't equate to the 6' he should be so diligently respecting. At any rate, my boyfriend and I told him the mask requirement was lifted a few days ago and he shouted that he was going to report the restaurant to the OC Health Dpt and that we were going to ruin it for everyone. Again, we were definitely not the only people not wearing masks. Customers ahead of us had placed orders with no masks and people behind us were not wearing them either. The man called over someone, I assume a supervisor, and started blabbing about how it was a health code violation and unfortunately we got our answer about this place. The woman 1) is unaware of local, current events that affect their customers, and 2) she succumbed to an irrational troll who clearly doesn't support the business if they are willing to try and turn them in, and without asking any questions she asked us leave. I find this all unfortunate because once again the cry baby wins. We are two respectful, informed, and supportive locals who would've loved to frequent this place and bring our friends and family along. Never mind the 20 minutes we wasted in line, watching others ahead of us with no masks enjoy the place. It was spineless of the person who asked us to leave. Overall very disappointed, if I could give zero stars I would, but the one I guess can go toward how delicious the food looked. read more

I'm so disappointed in how I was treated with my newborn baby. I had a cloth face covering on and they refused to serve me. I waited in line for 20 min. I saw people behind me and in front of me be served with cloth masks. When I was getting ready to order a lady behind the counter told me i wasn't wearing a proper mask and told me I needed to wear a blue mask she was offering or no service. Been going here for several months now, this is still my favorite breakfast spot in SC. Croque Madame is my favorite and have had several freshly baked pastries, madeleines are light and melt in your mouth. Love being able to get freshly squeezed juice as well. My husband the coffee snob loves the coffee they serve here. Staff has always been pleasant and friendly. Service has always been quick and exactly what we ordered. I'm also very pleased with their enforcement of customers wearing masks. At the beginning of all this COVID craziness, I walked in with a mask and my husband did not (he was not a believer in mask wearing at the time.) He was promptly handed a mask and told to put it on if he wanted service. Keep up the good work. It's clear you care about your employees and customers health. read more

One of the best places to find excellent quiche and tasty desserts. They also have unique drinks, and knowledgeable staff. We loved everything we ordered here. The quiche Lorraine was outstanding and a must-try. I also enjoyed their little rum cake (it was very spongey and tasted more like a date cake, but it was good). You know how they say that the French take 2-hour lunches, just enjoying themselves at a leisurely pace? Well, I'm going to assume that's why it took 45 minutes to get food brought to our table. Maybe they were trying to force us to take our time? Sarcasm aside, I just did not love this place. It's super cute inside, and the quality of the food is good (I got the warm goat cheese salad and it was delightful), but the service is just terrible. You order at the counter, get a number, and wait. Or, in our case, wait and wait and wait and wait. I realize it was a busy weekend day, but still. One member of our party actually got her food right away, which made it even more awkward when the rest of us were waiting for 45 minutes. When the food finally arrived, it was good. They put ham on my daughter's grilled cheese, which I did not ask for, so that was sent back. But my salad was great and tasted fresh. The prices are too high though. My salad and my daughter's kid meal (which she did not touch because they served the grilled cheese open faced and she didn't know what to make of that) was $33. Also, they rang me up for a large OJ that I didn't even order (which was SIX DOLLARS!). Given that it's a pain to find parking around here, I don't think I'll be back. I want to be supportive of places like this. I think the owner was the one running the cash register, and I really respect that, but service is so important and it just wasn't there. read more

Ive been to this place twice now as its the only place within walking distance to get a fresh coffee. I love the pastries. It's rare to find pan aux raisin in Southern California and they do it very well. HOWEVER This morning i walked up the road to get an iced latte like I did the last time I was there. I was told I could not have one. Why? Because they want to keep the establishment as 'authentically French' as possible. As a European who went through extensive coffee training I can tell you that the only thing authentically French about this experience was the servers being as difficult as possible. And I don't even believe its their fault! It's clearly coming from pretentious senior management. What they were allowed to do: give me espresso and cold almond milk (you would NEVER find almond milk in ANY authentic French cafe or restaurant, or half and half or cream) in a hot coffee cup with a plastic lid on top with a plastic cup of ice on the side. After I poured the drink over ice (I was ALLOWED to do that), the cup and lid were promptly thrown out. This cafe has an OCEAN VIEW and they had the nerve to create all this extra plastic non recyclable waste on the pretentious grounds of being 'authentically French'. Aside from the pain aux raisin, there is nothing in this cafe that I cant easily find in other establishments, including Kinder Eggs and Orangina. read more

Had lunch yesterday at this location. I ordered the chicken and potatoes. I didn't have to wait too long for my order. Oh my, it was so delicious. The potatoes were piping hot and very well seasoned. The chicken was roasted perfectly to the ends. Crispy wings just makes me smile. Chicken breast was moist and the au jus sauce just complimented it. The side salad with vinegarette dressing made a well rounded meal. The almond croissant was amazing. I had to sneak a bite of it before my meal arrived. The Canelle de Bordeaux was the best I have ever had! I wish more places made it that way. It was a very lovely day to enjoy food and the patio seating. Bonus was the cool breeze from the ocean. A quick walk down to the beach after lunch was very invigorating. I will definitely return to enjoy the food and scenery at this location. Thanks to the guys serving the meals. Patroned last weekend. My daughter ordered a strawberry crepe and I ordered a crepe complete. My daughter's crepe was served to her in a reasonable amount of time. After over 10 minutes I received my crepe - burnt on the outside. I asked the server if she thought anything was amiss about the timing of the dishes and she had no clue. FYI - Meals are meant to be enjoyed together and we were not able to do so. I asked for the manager to come over, and no one showed up to the table. My friend had the same problem happen when she had her grandchildren with her. Moulin - you need more than one crepe maker, and a better one than was on duty last Saturday. This time, I decided to go for a crepe as they look so good as you enter the café and can see them Making them right in front of you. When I order crapes, I typically order ham and Swiss for a savory. For some reason they couldn't make plain ham and Swiss but it had to be ordered how it was described in the menu. That seemed strange- if they are made in front of you why can't you make it to order? Come to find out, they are made in the back at least the savory ones are. I was very not-impressed with the creep as it was completely bland, just not very interesting. in the future, I will either order a sweet creep or a pastry as those seem to be their specialties. I am obsessed with their pear and almond tart. It is to die for. I hate hate hate pears and won't eat them but in this tart? I will shovel down 6 of them in 1 sitting if I could find pants that would fit afterward. I always visit the location at South Coast just for that tart. I miss Europe and I was excited to stop in for a coffee with my dog. Ambience of this location has maintained the charm since the prior restaurant was here. Sadly, I did not stay to eat. After securing my patio seating, my first steps inside the restaurant included an assault of egg aroma in a rather suffocating way, not at all conjuring up pleasant images of croque madame. Smelled more like dishwater, cafeteria floors, and egg scraps. Admittedly, I am sensitive to scents, and I planned to eat outside anyways, so I grabbed a menu to peruse outdoors. Ended up with two menus stuck together, unclean to the touch. Figured I would wing it so I returned to the counter only to see all the sandwiches premade. Didn't want to sandwich anyway. I looked for a board listing the coffee options but it seems they really want you to touch the grimy, sticky menus. I give it three stars because perhaps the food it's self tastes good. But mostly because I like the idea of having a French café in the neighborhood. I just wish it felt clean and fresh like the former restaurant there did. read more

My fiancé and I came here with our parents after touring a nearby wedding venue. Moulin is a cute little spot just a 5 minute walk away from the beach. They have plenty of metered street parking right around it. We arrived around 10:55am and they took our order pretty quickly. There were only 5 of us in the party. The lady that took our order (I think she was the owner) was a little short in answering any questions we had. My dad keeps kosher so I had to ask some questions and she just didn't seem very warm in answering our questions. Once we ordered and sat at our table with our number, it took over 25 minutes for them to begin bringing out food. All of our food was eggs so I can't imagine it takes 25 minutes to cook eggs. After 30 minutes we were still waiting on them to bring out 2 more dishes (one of which was already ready in the display case). They were somewhat apologetic but not really. The croque madame I got was soggy. The edges were crispy but everything else was soggy. Everyone else said their food was just okay. Overall the experience was not the best. Tropezienne 5 stars: Cream, yes please, Coffee 5 stars Eggs benedict 3 stars, my poached eggs were definitely more on the hardboiled side unfortunately. The store was not busy, so how the chef could let that out of the kitchen is a-little beyond me, but I ate it without complaint. I LOVE the Moulin in Newport Beach; the staff is friendly and the food is way better quality and they have a bigger selection. I'm VERY disappointed in the service quality here. Even the lady ringing my mom and I up was rude. Listen, I don't care how busy you are- EVERY customer should be greeted with a smile and should feel welcome ESPECIALLY at a new restaurant. As i entered the store i immediately said good morning to the women working in the front and got no response. assuming she didn't hear me, i moved on and began telling her what I wanted to order.
