This restaurant has nice staff, but if you are looking for ambiance, good food and reasonable prices, skip it and go elsewhere.

Love their new location! What an improvement. The food is as good as always. Lots of vegetarian options and great service. My only complaint is that they changed their coffee which used to be robust and flavorful and now it is basically brown water. I would have given them a 4 star review if it had not been for this issue. For a breakfast place good coffee should be a staple. Please bring back your great coffee!! Went here for a Sunday breakfast at around 10am. It was busy but not crowded. They had tables set up so that you felt safe. I had the ultimate skillet and my boyfriend had the eggs Benedict. Both were fantastic!! The service was great and noticed that several staff memo were bilingual as well which is awesome. Highly recommend! read more

Food was very good- however they were way understaffed for a Sunday breakfast-brunch crowd. Very long waits for seats- even once seated very long wait for coffee, orders to be taken, check to be brought... Servers were sweet but expected to wait on far too large sections. Unfair to them. read more

We discovered a hidden treasure! Returning from a recent camping trip, we spotted the Mountain Lyon Cafe and pulled in. Although busy, our wait was minimal. The owner/manager was on top of his game by greeting and briefing us regarding the cafe's amenities. The wait service could not have been better; friendly and responsive. This is a regular stop for us when we drive through Silverthorne. Good food, friendly service, fair prices. Our wait to order today was a bit long, and there's no baby changing table (in the women's restroom, at least). This is their newer location, though, so I'm sure upgrades are in the works. Went there for lunch today. Do not go there if you are really hungry. ... there were a couple of empty tables but they still made us wait for 10 minutes before sitting us. There is no"simple" burger on the menu, so my husband ordered a cheeseburger without cheese. .... guess what, it was served as a cheeseburger, so he had to scrape the cheese off and the waitress didn't even apologize for messing up his order. I went for their mushroom, onion (grilled onion .... I confirmed with the waitress) 'n swiss burger. Guess what, there were 2 pieces of mushrooms and raw onions on the burger. Plus the burger was dry as a hockey puck, not that I know what that tastes like ... pretty much inedible. I got sick on my stomach half an hour after leaving the restaurant from their food. The food and menu options were pretty Good for the price you pay. And that's the only good I can say about this place. It being a small place with a regular 3 servers on there is no excuse for how terrible the service was. The server forgot to put in the order and didn't own up to her mistake which would have made the wait more understandable because mistake happen. Then she decided that since her tip was dwindling because of that mistake she would just tuck her tail between her legs and avoid our table all together instead of making it better. We waited 20 mins for a WATER refill and another 15 for a to go box which another server ended up getting. As someone who has served tables for 12 years and 5 of those years fine dining, I have no shame in saying service was pathetic. I get you are busy, but even so... I came here today for breakfast based upon recent reviews. Upon entering, I was told I could sit where I wanted. The friendly waitress quickly brought me coffee and water. I ordered a stack of pancakes that included a blueberry, a banana nut and a Swiss pancake. They arrived quickly and were tasty. My coffee and water were refilled quickly and politely. With all of that you'd think they would get more stars but there were some areas with room for improvement: 1) As earlier posters stated, the place isn't that clean. There was obvious grunge/dust on the windowsill next to me. Lots of miscellaneous stuff (including a bison head) hanging on the walls. I'm in doubt that any of it has been wiped down this year. Minus one star for cleanliness. 2) Staff: There appeared to be ample staff and most of them were friendly and efficient. There was one staff member that appeared to be busing and wiping down tables, alternated by sitting at a customer seat at the counter. She wore dark sunglasses and I never observed her interfacing with anyone, staff or guests). When she cleared my dishes, I smiled and thanked her. She had no response, no change in expression, not even a smile. If you are going to work in a customer service line of work, have a personality. Granted, this lady may be an immigrant, but IMHO, she should not be working where she might meet customers if she cannot even say "hello" or "you are welcome". Minus another star. The other three stars are for quick service, friendly/helpful staff and good food! I would recommend, but there are better options nearby. I do like that they have outdoor seating. I am so in love with this breakfast joint. You can tell it's an old local diner that doesn't need to change their curb appeal or update anything because they have madd customer loyalty. Only place I can order my egg white veggie omelette filled with cream cheese and not feel judged. :) My boyfriend loves the chile rellenos breakfast, it's pretty spicy though. This is the place to be for breakfast any day of the week but do your best to avoid the weekends around 10 am. read more

A delicious mountain-town breakfast joint. Stopped in here with a party of 9, and made it out surprisingly fast given this isn't the biggest place in the world (though we did split into two tables). I had the special of the morning: the southwest skillet. A delicious combo of chorizo, eggs, jalapenos, red peppers, green chili, cheese, and green onions on top of home fries. The chorizo wasn't greasy like some places, which I appreciated. And the green chili had a ton of flavor and a hint of a kick. Would have preferred fresh jalapenos vs. pickled, but was still delicious. Darn good breakfast before heading back to the city. There's for sure a wait on the weekends and the patio area is open seating. It ratty tatty looking inside and out, but who cares, the food is good and the service is good. Eat and leave. Food comes out hot and fast once your order has been taken. Great breakfast spot for well-executed diner classics. On a recent trip we stopped here a few times for hearty, pre-ski breakfasts. Eggs, omelets, breakfast burritos - everything was great, generously portioned and reasonably priced. This is a place that gets the details right: sides of ham were nicely browned, hash browns and potatoes o'brien were perfectly crisped all around, etc. Lots of places serve up breakfast food, but the execution and attention to detail here take things to a higher level. Service was perfect: fast, friendly and very attentive. A team of servers came around frequently to top off coffee cups, etc., so we never waited a moment for anything. One of the criteria to even be considered a great breakfast joint is that it has to open at LEAST by 6:30 AM and really should open by 6. For some strange reason Mountain Lyon doesn't open until 7 and gets a demerit for that. That being said, the servers are friendly, the food good, it's a nice casual place, efficient and fast service. I would really like to give it 4 or 5 stars but simplify cannot in good conscience do that so long as they insist on serving breakfast during "brunch hours". read more

Mountain Lyon Cafe doesn't disappoint - it is a cheap breakfast and brunch diner with amazing food, and surprisingly quick turns. Even with the wait, we weren't at the restaurant much more than an hour. I was there a couple weeks ago with friends, and while everyone was happy with their omelets and pancakes and such, they turned green and hot at the sight of my breakfast burrito platter with green chili. I was up visiting cardiologist in Aspen when I decided to stop by. This is one of those places where you can tell the food is home-made, but wonder how the heck they can put so much time into preparation for such a small place. The food was great - my friend's 5 year old ordered a pancake dish with fruit that came out with a whipped cream smiley face - love when restaurants try to please the little ones. My huevos rancheros was delicious, and the hash browns were fabulous. The service was good, she kept my coffee cup full the whole time, which I love. The bad part was the awful door on the far side of the restaurant, that SLAMMED shut anytime someone entered or exited. I nearly jumped out of my chair a half a dozen times. Also, the table was still semi-sticky when we sat down, and the condiment bottles definitely could have used a good cleaning. Still, the food is worth it. Our favorite breakfast restaurant! Wish we could move this place back home! We travel to this area several times a year and always make a point of stopping here for breakfast on our way back home. They have a really nice country fried steak along with hash, pancakes, french toast, and various other tasty breakfast dishes. We've liked everything we've ever gotten there.
