Nice to have run into this butcher. Picked up a 5lb trimmed brisket. Turned out fabulous! Service was great. Tucked away in a cute shopping center.

Great butcher ,knowledgeable and willing to accommodate. We found picanha ! if you need a special cut of meat this is the place to go in North Lake Tahoe area, they also carry Mary's chickens and other speciality items. ask them what you need , they have more than what is on display or you can call ahead for a special orders we've done that before too.

They make this sausage that the insides taste like din tai dumplings. Juicy and delicious!!

Sweet az. The sausage is/was bomb. Reasonable pricing. The young man behind the counter recognized prior military as well. Go and load up on sausage and other items from this shop!!! I only had the links of that is a representation of the other cuts, I highly recommend.

A plate full of their house-made sausages

I was blown away when I found this treasure of a butcher shop in Truckee. From there house-made sausages and animal Ranch beef to their freezer full of game meats, Demi-glacé, Strauss Ice Cream and other delectables, I was literally the man-child an the proverbial candy/meat shop!! They even have a nice selection of fresh fruits and veggies to accompany your protein selection. I tried each of their sausages. Yep! I took home all of them, including their breakfast sausage!!! My favorite was the potsticker sausage. It tasted just as the name implied. Surprisingly, my least favorite was the habanero honey. However, it was still a very good sausage. I like heat but, it was a little too hot for me. (But it's was, after all, HABENERO. So who's fault is that?) lol the biggest and best surprise was the Carolina pork sausage. What an awesome idea! It was well executed! The crew is friendly and professional. Support this store!! Don't let a treasure like this go away... heck, I even bought myself a nice t-shirt. *Covid-19 safety measures taken seriously at this establishment *

The pork and pasilla pot pie is the best pot pie ever eaten by far! Cute little market and decent selection of fresh meat as well.

    Tri Tip! $13.99 per lb.

Finally, a place to get high quality meats that aren't frozen! And great ore marinated meat and sausages. Plus they'll order you things!

Hi Brad, sorry this response took so long. We do not process wild game. All meats that come through our door are USDA inspected and we are not allowed to mix not inspected meats in our establishment. There are some places in Reno, NV that do…

Aside the obvious lineup of meats, there are variety of sausages. Great looking steaks. Fresh chickens. Our meat budget at our regular supermarket has since shrunk, because we now make a separate trip here. What's really great about this place, on top of the choices and quality, is the people. Everyone is very attentive, helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. Last week I wanted to splurge on some wagyu, and I of course had to ask what the best way to cook was. I'm sure everyone who bought wagyu ask this question. The guy was super kind and patient to give me all the tips on how he'd do it. I'm not very confident about cooking meat -- it's always been my husband's thing. But now I know where to go, who to ask, and all that. Wagyu was, by the way, amazing. This place is a local gem.

When it comes to butcher shops in the greater Reno area, "Butcher Boy Meat Market" has ranked at…read morethe top spot for decades. This family owned-and-operated business has been around since 1974 with origins that date as far back as the early-1930s. And after all of these years, I had come to this place for the first time on 7/3/2026. Located on W. Plumb Ln and tucked in between S. Arlington Ave and Plumas St., this place is in a quiet strip mall bordered by a Starbucks and other small businesses. Upon entry, you are immediately drawn by the aroma of so many excellent meats coming from all directions. Considering this was a day before the 4th of July, this place was packed with customers. The selections here are vast as they offer just about every part of the cow imaginable; everything from chuck roast, ribs, sirloin, brisket, flank, and much more. And they carry a ton of choices in seasoned tri-tip and ground beef to choose from. Additionally, you can find a vast amount of pork, chicken, lamb, and a ton of house-made sausages. In addition to the huge assortment of quality meats here, this place has an enormous amount of marinades, dry rubs, sauces, and a large freezer case that offers a ton of frozen options. I will say that this place is a bit more expensive than one of my other favorite butcher shops in Reno, "Blue Ribbon". For example, a cut of sirloin steak at Blue Ribbon is around $13/lb while Butcher Boy is priced at $19/lb. However, when making these comparisons, you have to factor in the meat curing preservation and how these animals were handled prior to being slaughtered. It is a whole process that can get quite scientific. After it was all said and done, I purchased some jalapeño bacon, bone-in pork chops, and some ground chuck. After taking this home and eventually grilling/cooking everything, I was quite impressed with the overall flavor that these meats offer. Especially with how tender and juicy everything came out. My favorite was the bacon as this really hit the spot for my 4th of July breakfast. All in all, "Butcher Boy Meat Market" is an excellent (yet pricey) butcher shop. Keep in mind that they are closed Sunday/Monday but open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am-7pm. With above average service and a huge variety of quality meats, I am giving them a respectable four-star rating.

I asked if they did half sandwiches in an effort to keep my calorie consumption to a reasonable level. They said yes we do make half sandwich sandwiches.. that was awesome but also the homemade banana bread said calories don't count - and a little "eat me" sign was floating above the banana bread visible only to me of course. I ended up getting half the Bart attack on sliced marble rye, and a corner piece of the chocolate chip banana bread. I ate it outside the patio, adorable tables and umbrellas. Such a gorgeous break from driving and eat something so delicious. It was like my grandma made it, full of love and flavor! From a Reno Regular: How a Great Concept Collapsed into Zero Service…read moreI hate having to write this review. We were regulars here from the very beginning, but after watching this place steadily degrade, our visit this past Friday was the final straw. What had the potential to be a standout local steakhouse has turned into an absolute joke. The Early Days vs. The Setup When they first opened, the experience had real heart and charm. The owner was there constantly with his young son running around, low-top tables and intimate candlelit settings filled the room, and a musician played live guitar in the corner. It felt like a warm, fun, family-driven environment. The service staff back then was exceptional. Brian was an absolute 12 out of 10--he didn't just recite the entire menu from memory, he could tell you exactly how every glaze was made, how each cut was cooked, prepared, and how it would be served. He made your mouth water before you even took a bite. Brandon (whom the owner's son affectionately called "B-Dog") was another fantastic server we loved seeing. He was a young guy working hard to make it work, showing immense passion, energy, and natural ability, and we were genuinely excited to watch him grow. Even then, the ordering concept was bizarre. You walked up to a counter to order, pay, and were prompted to tip before receiving any service whatsoever--which is frankly obnoxious for a steakhouse--and then handed a plastic number to take back to your table like you were at a Carl's Jr. Having to order drinks separately led to constant confusion, with people often leaving without settling drinks because nothing was tied to a traditional running tab. Still, we overlooked the setup because Brian, Brandon, the owner's presence, the atmosphere, and the food made it worthwhile. The Downward Slide Over time, management stripped away the intimate low-tops for rows of high-tops along the walls, completely killing the fine-dining ambiance and replacing it with the feel of a generic, loud bar. While they blamed a lot on COVID, the decline started before that and has only gotten worse: Everything on a QR Code: They allegedly have physical menus, but we never saw one. There are no menus handed out, no passionate staff walking you through the cuts, and zero personal interaction. Every single item--steaks, sides, and drinks--must now be ordered and paid for directly off a QR code on your phone, completely eliminating whatever hospitality was left. Nonexistent Service: On a prime Friday evening reservation, we were greeted by a teenager at the counter dressed sloppily. Instead of being seated, we were told, "Take any one of those tables," with a vague wave of a hand. Minutes later, someone dropped by only to say, "Scan that QR code to order," and walked right away. The Wine Fiasco: We ordered a bottle of wine, but were brought a single glass of wine instead. When we followed up and asked for three additional glasses so our table could share, the server came back, plunked an already-opened bottle on the table along with the glasses, and said, "I think I just opened this bottle for you, so it should be good." That is not how dining is supposed to go. Uncorking a mystery bottle in the back and bringing it out half-handled is outrageous for a steakhouse. Zero Hospitality: We had to hunt down staff just to get water and ask for our own to-go boxes. Not a single employee stopped by to check on the meal, refill a drink, or provide basic table touches. Pushing Guests Outdoors: They constantly try to seat people outside regardless of conditions--even right now, with active regional fires making the smoky outdoor air completely unhealthy to sit in. Drop in Food Quality: For the first time since coming here, the meal was legitimately bad. The food was sloppy, rushed, and thrown together without care, fitting the new bar-room aesthetic rather than a quality steakhouse. The Missing Heart of the Restaurant: The familiar faces that made this place great are entirely absent. The owner isn't around, and neither Brian nor Brandon have been seen on our last several visits, even on a peak weekend night. It feels like the passion completely walked out the door. The Parking Hassle: Parking has become a nightmare. The neighboring lot charges for parking, and unlike surrounding businesses, there is zero designated parking in the back for restaurant guests. Final Verdict We've brought friends here in the past and ended up embarrassed by the slipping standards. Paying fine dining steakhouse prices to seat yourself, order everything off your phone via a QR code without ever seeing an actual menu, get served mystery open bottles of wine, fetch your own amenities, eat rushed food at a high-top, and receive zero service is unacceptable. We won't be back, we won't tip upfront for service that never happens, and we'll be taking our steakhouse business elsewhere in Reno.
