I live walking distance to Moura's and have braved at least 4 snow storms this brutal winter to walk to my favorite soup and sandwich shop in Buffalo. Nice spot to grab a quick lunch in the city. It's easy to order online and have it ready when you walk in. The portions are huge and everything is freshly made so it matches the pricing. I love how you can customize everything on your sandwich from bread to the meats, cheese, and condiments so it's literally made to order. The only thing that I don't like is there is only 1 table there for you to enjoy your meal and if someone gets it before you, you're stuck trying to find a bench near by. The menu is broad, something for everyone. I have never had bad food here. Ever. Service is fast and they rarely make mistakes in orders. I had the liverwurst on rye with mayo and onions, no cheese. Yum. All sandwiches come with a garlicy dill pickle spear. Also yum. I added a side of the tuna pasta salad. It was super fresh and great tasting. For dessert I had the rice pudding with cinnamon and raisins. Just scrumptious! I used their online ordering app for takeout and gave them a few challenges with additional notes and they rocked it. An extra dill pickle spear and a smear of horseradish on the sandwich. Perfect. I started working downtown again three weeks ago, after not working downtown in almost 16 years, and o was so happy to see that this deli was still open. It was a favorite of mine years ago and it still is! This place is either steady, busy, or super busy during lunch. My lunch is 12-12:30. If your lunchtime is when mine is, you should view their menu online, and order and pay online. They have many great things to choose from. Their daily special is one of their sandwiches (they choose it) with one of their eight-ounce soups. (You can choose what soup you'd like from their three choices.) I chose their sandwich deal for today's lunch. They offered a ham sandwich. When you click on that option, you get to choose which bread you'd like. There are many choices. I chose rye and asked for it to be toasted. (You choose toasted or untoasted, when you order online.) Then you get a choice of their three soups, when you order online. I chose chicken gumbo and it was so delicious!!! I paid for a drink and cookies ahead of time, when I ordered online. The cookies were in the bag and I grabbed a drink from their vast cooler, when I entered the deli. (If you order online, you can skip the line, and ask one of the workers for your meal, by providing your name.) I've been here twice in the last three weeks, the first time I stopped back down here, I had a chicken salad, a seafood pasta salad, and a Diet Pepsi. That day and today, I was happy with the quality of my meal, the price, and the service. I added a tip when I ordered online today. The prices aren't too insane. I was in the area and saw New York deli. I love New York deli's, so I just had to try this. I was interested in either a pastrami or corned beef sandwich, obviously... something you would get at a New York deli. They also offer soup, subs, desserts and regular sandwiches. Pricing was reasonable at 8.99 for a decently large sandwich. There was quite a bit of meat on my corned beef. When I ordered, I asked "do I want the pastrami or the corned beef?" and they said "either". So I went with corned beef, as it is my favorite. You also got to choose lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo or oil. Also your cheese. They didn't have pumpernickel, which I like on my corned beef, but they did have New York Jewish rye. All in all, the sandwich was very tasty. I don't think it was the quality corned beef that I've had at other New York deli's, but it was definitely good enough. I did enjoy my sandwich. I thought it was a good value for what I received. I also got a pickle on the side that was nicely wrapped up in paper. They serve you your sandwich wrapped in butcher paper, inside a thin plastic bag, inside a paper bag to take away. read more

This spot is a gem hidden in plain sight!! I had driven past this place multiple times never thinking about stopping to get anything. When I went in the place was very clean and had a lot to offer. A ton of sandwiches/wraps/salads/drinks/chips etc... the desserts looked so good that I just ended up getting some rice pudding to go. Oh boy was it so delicious that I originally told myself that I was going to eat half today and half tomorrow as it is going to be rich. But I started to eat it and I was half way through and said to myself just one more bite and I'll put it away. But.... I ended up eating the whole thing in one setting. It was Delicious I couldn't help myself the flavors and texture was spot on!! Not too sweet and the rice was perfectly cooked and the flavors of the creamy vs touch of cinnamon was perfect. Found this place (thanks to yelp) and cant wait to go back! It's downtown and a great spot for a quick lunch. I got a turkey melt and soup - for about $11. Wish they had lunch combos besides for one sandwich of the day, but oh well. The sandwich was so hearty and they didn't skimp on anything! The employees were very nice too!! More than filled me up. Their special today was a corned beef sandwich with choice of 8oz soup for $8.99. Not half a sandwich but a good sized sandwich and everything is excellent. People who think this place sucks, are Moura-ons. Sorry to be insulting but it's true. Obviously I wanted to give Moura's a 5, who wouldn't? Everyone told me to give it a 5. In fact the CM of Syracuse, NY told me that if I didn't give this a 5, family members would start disappearing leaving me with only one recourse: contact Liam Neeson and ask him to talk to the Syracuse CM on the phone. So of course when I ask what the best thing is, and they insist on Turkey, as do the reviews, as does the person who is sharing the food with me, then of course I have to get the Turkey. TLDR: Don't show up too early for your online order, or you'll get accused of trying to cut the line. I get sandwiches from them once in a while because I work nearby and they are okay, but after my experience today I won't be ordering from them again. My coworker and I placed an order online, and when I got there at 12pm to pick up both the orders, my order was done and my colleague's wasn't. At first it didn't appear on their screen, but then it did and the owner (I assume) accused me of placing the order right there in order to skip the line. I couldn't believe it lol. I wasn't even being impatient. I don't think they realized that the pickup time was for 12:15pm on my colleague's order, and so their system probably doesn't show the orders until 10-15 mins before the pickup time. She placed her order around 10am. I really can't believe how people just jump to the worst conclusions, especially about a paying customer. The whole point of online ordering IS to not wait in line, so they could have just made me wait until 12:15 and it would have been fine. But since the guy was being rude to me, it really left me with an icky feeling. read more

Like many a downtown restaurant, Moura's focuses on quick interactions and the hope that you have somewhere else to eat. (Moura's has a table, but the focus is definitely on order and leave.) Like many a downtown restaurant, Moura's is open weekdays during the breakfast and lunch periods. On the other hand, it's super convenient to my workplace and makes a good wrap, and is always busy. Moura's has two focuses: feeding weekday workers during their many lunch breaks, and catering. While I haven't had their catering yet, I imagine it's similar to their daily offerings. The key to getting through the line is to call and order in advance. I never mind waiting in line, though on busy days you can tell that the staff prefers when you call ahead. So grab a take out menu to have on hand, and call at least half an hour before you plan to take your lunch break. My go to is the Greek veggie wrap, and I alternate between the spinach wrap or the garlic herb wrap. Put it this way: I hate most peppers, and the wrap comes with banana peppers and I don't even realize I'm eating them, a win in my eyes. Of course, I do order it with no olives. Try as I might, I still don't like olives. Maybe someday that will change. I do wish Moura's would update their menus, at times items listed are no longer available and things may change over time. Not a big deal if you're into deli standbys. When the opportunity presents itself again, I'll likely choose Moura's for an easy, convenient lunch. As long as you plan accordingly, you will have a good experience in the middle of the workday. read more

I was craving a cheese sandwich on rye, with mustard, lettuce and tomato last Friday and I knew just the place to go. My sandwich didn't disappoint. It was ready in less than a minute. I was in the mood for a turkey club and I wanted the turkey to be fresh cut. I love Moura's but a turkey club wasn't on the menu...I went anyways and they made me one of the most tastey turkey sandwiches I've ever had. I just savored it at my desk. Although non-tradional, lacking the 3rd peice of bread which I didn't miss at all, it satisfied my craving and I will order another one again soon! I ususally go to Moura's for egg salad, they're one of the only places that makes it fresh and it's always done correctly....highly recommend both sandwiches! Much to my delight, Moura's New York Deli recently reopened! This is a great place to pick up a quick bite to eat. I spent $7 for a large serving of Moura's homemade Greek pasta salad and two freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, which more than sated my appetite. COVID-19 protocols were largely in place: all staff wore masks, and those handling food also wore gloves. A plexiglass shield was in place to separate the cashier from customers. Social distancing was observed on the customer side of the counter but not so much on the staff side, which was very crowded due to a lack of space. read more

I think the food quality at Moura's is great. It's just a little sandwich and salad lunch deli in the heart of downtown. (No eat in, just take out). Even if the line is long, you can get in and out pretty quickly. My one gripe is their definition of a club sandwich. As noted in a previous review, their 'club' sandwich is simply a sandwich without the third layer of bread. The first couple of times I ordered a turkey club, and instead got a turkey sammich, I thought it was a mistake. The third time I asked specifically if their 'club' had a third slice of bread the nice lady at the counter told me 'no'. Then, I asked if they could please add it. She wasn't sure andasked her manager, to which he replied with a straight out 'no' and absolutely no explanation or justification. They will not do it, even if you ask. It's no big deal, and the sandwich always takes great, but I wish they wouldn't use the word 'club' on their menu, as it is misleading, IMO. Oh, and their chicken salad on bulkie roll is probably the best there is downtown. Prices are good, pickles are good, and the place is consistently consistent. read more

I work downtown and go to Moura's regularly for a sandwich. I am always pleased with the sandwiches and wraps (note my comment on the salads below). A nicely stacked sandwich for $6. You can't beat that! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and no matter how busy they are (I've been there when the line's been out the door), they greet you with a smile and thank you for your business. It's a take-out deli, so don't plan on sticking around. Besides the cold sandwich options, they have soup and hot sandwiches, as well as full salads, side salads (mac, potato, etc.), and light desserts. I will say the Greek salad I had once was disappointing. I haven't tried another salad since. I didn't knock them down a star because of the mediocre salad simply because they won me over with their sandwiches. Want a sandwich? This is the place! Want a salad? Try somewhere else. The consistent high-quality of their sandwiches is only surpassed by the consistent friendliness of their employees. I needed a quick lunch, and since I was in NY I figured what better place than a NY Deli. From the second I walked it the man at the counter (who I think was the owner) was very nice. He could obviously tell I had no idea what I wanted and walked me through their menu and his recommendations. I settled on the Italian with sourdough, and a cup of chili. The chili was very well done. A good mix of beans, and meat and spices. The sandwich was huge. I ended up having to split it into two meals because I couldn't eat it all in one sitting.
