I love babaganoush so I'm very picky about my babaganoush. This place has one of the best babaganoush I've had in the City! I recommend you eat babaganoush with their fresh baked whole wheat pita! I also love their Turkish coffee! Yum!!! This place serves relatively inexpensive but delicious and fresh Middle Eastern dish. The food here in general is pretty simple. The decor too is simple and cozy. I haven't tried their house specialty pitza but looked delicious. FYI - Don't try the milk flan(Muhalabia) unless you want to be adventurous. It's interesting, but I'm not sure if I liked it. A touch of weird tasting spice (cardamon?) sprinkled over the flan with pistachio and raspberry sauce wasn't working for me. read more

Probably the best 2 star I will ever give. Firstly let me say that there are some mitigating factors to this. First of which is that in general Mediterranean & Lebanese food on the whole in NYC is pathetic. I'm Australian, and if you are from that part of the world i can tell you it isn't better than something you'd get at a food court at Burwood Westfield (that would be 4 stars comparatively.) Walked past this place and thought I would give it a go. Had hummus, tabouleh, and babaganoush to start. Pictures attached. Babaganoush was decent, tabouleh really lacked flavour. It was either 4 weeks old, or just no good. Hummus felt like it had been thinned out with water. Just lacked any taste. Lebanese bread home made was decent. Made onsite. Wife had falafel plate, I had chicken plate. Falafel, average, is missing spices, and was puffy without having that real dense consistency you would expect from a good falafel. Salad, again, wasn't Lebanese. I was expect fatoush, but it was lettuce with tomato and onion - no lemon, garlic or spice in the dressing. It did have tahini, but was watered down again. Really sucked. I had the chicken, and it didn't have salad, had this refried bean gravy with it that I have never seen before - did nothing. One piece of my chicken wasn't cooked. I wasn't really impressed to be honest and despite the fact the bill came to $70 with tax and tip, I wouldn't be going back. Waited til I was about to pay before telling me was cash only. Had to walk 5 mins there and back to get cash and pay. Poor. Give it a miss. read more

Went for dinner tonight and it was a real treat. Very friendly service. We got the chicken, lamb, and falafel plates and all were amazing and very clearly fresh. The hummus and pita was delicious as well. Also recommend the mint tea. Portion sizes are good and the prices are great considering the area. I'm a little disappointed, but maybe it's because NYC has become over run by a large influx of Mediterranean, Turkish, Middle Eastern and Greek restaurants serving hummus, babaganoush, muhamara, grilled skewer meats, falafels, and pita. So when I ate here for the first time 7 years ago, I loved it. But now I'm like eh... there are a myriad of choices all over the Village and in every part of Manhattan and the outer boroughs. So the long wait for the small cramped space probably will not make it to my list any more. The hummus ad muhamara is a bit watery than other places that are thicker and creamier. Moustache is the kind of of a place you'd expect to find in some neighborhood in Brooklyn if you were asking where to find authentic and good Middle Eastern food, but surprisingly it's in the middle of a lovely street in the heart of the West Village. The food is all pretty good, but the one the trophy goes to the Mujaddrah, it's a cold lentil salad that's has fantastic sweet flavor from caramelized onions. I have been coming here since I was little and it never disappoints. The new location might even be better than I remembered it. I ordered the greek salad with chicken and it was phenomenal. The vegetables were so fresh and the salad was dressed to perfection but the chicken was the real star of the salad; it was crispy and juicy at the same time. The portions are large and definitely filling. However, I was exceptionally hungry and so I also ordered the lentil soup which was like a purée with some sort of sautéed onion on top. My favorite would be the Moustache Pitza, that comes with fresh mozzarella and tomato, and tastes quite wholesome. The lentil soup is heavenly. But the hummus lacks in tahini and taste. And the salads are quite limp. Stated differently, the forces of good and bad are in an unholy dance, approximating an equilibrium that places Moustache at a solid three stars. Tucked away on a sleepy street in the West Village, you would for a split second think you are not in Manhattan while walking down Bedford St., but then you'll be promptly yanked back into reality when you notice the line for this place. Now, while the line is a good sign that the food is either good or this is a SEEN-TO-BE-SEEN place, it is annoying when you are hungry. And I was definitely hungry. We were an odd number of three and given the looks of this place, we were going to have to wait a bit for a table. Actually, I think we only waited about 15 minutes or so, so not too bad. The space is small and cozy and definitely better for a party of 2. While we were waiting, many two-top tables opened up. They have some interesting rugs hanging from the wall and and upper alcove. I couldn't figure out if they were Turkish or what...sigh. I'm still on this VEGAN pledge and my friend was very cognizant of that and helped me order food I could eat. Thank heavens for Mediterranean fare. We started off with hommus, baba ghanoush, and also tabouleh. Pita bread does not come with the orders, but they are pretty big, and 2 were more than enough for our party of three. All three sides were EXCELLENT but I really liked the smokiness of the baba ghanoush. I found myself dipping more into that side. Normally, I am not a big tabouleh fan as I find it a bit lacking in flavor, but this tabouleh was very flavorful and zesty. I liked it immensely! For my entree, I had the falafel sandwich which was smothered in tahini, sitting in a plentiful bed of lettuce and tomato and all wrapped up in pita bread. Excellent falafel and tahini. I couldn't have asked for a tastier VEGAN meal! Such a nice little CHEAP find in the middle of pricey West Village. And also, it is romantic and cozy enough for a date! The portions were ample so those three orders were more than enough for two of us. It was my first time eating ouzi - thought it was delicious - It was similar to Asian fried rice, but with pastry. A lot of times my friends will ask me for recommendations in the West Village, and more often than not I shrug and admit it's really not my territory. Spotted Pig? Yeah, but it's off the top of the charts of my preferred price range. Corner Bistro? Sure... but not exactly international. The only truly international experience I venture for is Myers of Keswick, which is far from a restaurant. It is definitely no secret, but I had yet to try Moustache's West Village location until recently, but found it a good, cheap-ish location. A group of people can definitely go enjoy an array of dishes for under $20 each. The pizzas are tasty, but it should be noted to stay away from the dull seafood pitza, which also happens to be the most expensive at $12. The lahambajin ($9) is ground lamb with onion, tomato, parsley and spices and probably is the most essential of the group. Of course any Middle Eastern meal would be lacking something without a sprinkling of appetizers. The babaganough and hummus ($5/each) excel from the pack. The service is a bit pushy as the place tends to fill up by 7.30 or so and a crowd waits on the sidewalk for tables. The small dining room doesn't seemed especially claustrophobic though, with high ceilings and minimal decor. Order a hot mint tea ($2) and enjoy the view back into the kitchen as your meal is prepared and brought out. read more

Great place with some delicious pita bread. I ordered the merguez sandwich, which is spicy lamb with onions (I got no onions), tomatoes, and tahini sauce, all wrapped in a large and warm pita. The lamb was not very spicy, which is totally fine with me, but I think the ratio of lamb to everything else was a bit off (this may have to do with my excluding the onions). Despite not being overly crowded, the service was at a very casual pace (to put it nicely) and my water was unfortunately never refilled. A few words about the service. Just because you are trying to get as many tables seated as possible, that shouldn't give you the liberty to rush the service and literally push people outside the door. I found the waiters (and not just one) to be rude, aggressive, unwelcoming and cocky. Despite the good food, I won't go back to this location. Much better the East Village place. read more
