I'd rate the Peruvian Steak an 8.5/10. The bread was perfectly toasted, the mustard added just the right amount of kick, and all of the flavors complemented each other well. It would have been a perfect 10/10 if one side of the bottom bun hadn't been completely soggy from the mustard spilling out of the sandwich. I ordered my sandwich to go, so if I had waited until I got home to eat it, I think the entire bottom of the sandwich would have been soggy. That was disappointing. For to-go orders, I think Mendocino Farms should automatically serve the mustard in a separate sauce container to help prevent this issue. My other qualm was with the pickup process. When I received the text that my order was ready, it read: "Your order at Mendocino Farms - 10 - UC Irvine is ready for pickup. Please proceed to the counter." Some restaurants have signs explaining whether customers should grab their to-go orders themselves or wait for a team member to assist them. I waited patiently at the counter for several minutes while a team member saw me standing there but didn't acknowledge me. After about five minutes, I finally asked, "Can I grab my order?" The process felt confusing and could have been communicated more clearly. Overall, I thought the sandwich was delicious and a great portion size. However, I think the to-go process could use some improvement. I ended up eating my sandwich in the restaurant because I could already see the bread becoming soggy when I picked it up, which wasn't part of my original plan.

I would rate Mr. Sandwich a half-step up over the major sandwich/sub chains in quality but it's my most reliable stand-by in terms of producing a decent lunch that I can get around the corner from where I work. When I stop in, it's usually on my way back from a meeting.There is a decent selection of meat and veggie orders to choose from. Your best value is the daily special, which is posted on a little sign next to the register. Ingredients are a tad fresher and the service is a tad nicer than in the national chains. I usually order something on French bread (meatball or chicken salad) and the ingredients commonly overflow out of the bread ... I've been known to start off using a fork. Also, it takes just a few minutes to get your order. Notes:(1) Inside is tiny, just a few tables. There are also tables outside on the walkway but they are just a few feet from parked cars. I order to-go every time (ambience is unexciting).(2) Because there are three fast-food restaurants sharing the same little shopping center, the parking is majorly congested during the weekday lunch rush. I'm so glad the are open on the weekends now. I work weekends so I love that I can come here for lunch. Shout out to Jose! I met him today and he told me he has been working here for 11 years now. He is the cook and also helps out in the front as a cashier. He prepped all the soups and salads and sandwiches. he is so hard-working! He has great customer service as well. He's the best! The restaurant is well kept and super clean! There is ample parking right outside, but it does get chaotic during the work week during primetime lunch hours. I love coming here and I will continue to come here.

The cost was very reasonable. The ingredients were very fresh and tasty. I have not tried their soups or other items but from the reviews, they are high quality. It does not go well with the sandwich. There's only 1 person working so she was busy making the drinks/food by herself. I guess I'll stick to the Buena Park location.
