We were looking for a unique place for lunch and were hoping for find one around the marina. There weren't many in the area we were looking but we did come across Mrs. Olson's Coffee Hut. Walking in the front door, we were surprised that it looked so "unfit" for a restaurant. Hardly no one was sitting inside with most sitting outside on the "patio". The "patio" had views of the marina with most tables on the sand. That's where we sat. The view from the patio was good but we were still a little apprehensive by the appearance of this place since we just stumbled on it and I didn't read the reviews until we sat down. The establishment does need work. Our friendly waiter showed up after a tad bit of a wait. At first we were wondering but everything moved fast after that. He took our order after explaining some menu items. He was efficient and downright super. The food was exceptional and huge!! A neighboring table was served a tostado salad and it was huge too. My order was for the beef grilled with au jus! Fantastic. Food was excellent and price was reasonable. Great place and we would definitely return. read more

We were there on a recommendation of a friend that used to live locally but now lives in Mexico and pops in and out of town so I asked for a recommendation for a spot to take my daughter for my daughter's 18th birthday no Denny's or IHOP something a lil more special. I was not disappointed with the service from beginning to end the Host a very tall gentleman (I wish I had gotten his name) he was so funny sweet and interactive singing Happy Birthday off and on as he walked by my daughter bringing her the biggest smile! I'll be the first to admit I am VERY PICKY about my biscuits & gravy but then again it's not too hard to get right especially in a restaurant. Of course mine were not good. However the portion sizes are AMAZING & I was able to share with my daughter on her French Toast and it all worked out. The server removed the biscuits & gravy. All around great service!! I think he said Denny's was a good place so I'll try there. I could have dealt with him being against masks and COVID. Good job Matt. The quality of the food has been going downhill for about 5 years now. I appreciated the large portions and vast amount of hot sauces provided but the frequency of going there has gone down little by little throughout the years due to the quality and taste of the food. Its impossible to have a conversation in there since its just so loud and if you are seated downstairs the noise is amplified so avoid being seated there if you can. The wait times are so very long and used to be worth it bit not anymore. It's been 25 years since I was last here. Actually, I went to the original location back then and this was my first time at this newer spot. The location is awesome...overlooking the marina. They have tons of seating and a few different rooms to choose from. I grabbed a spot at the counter but the counter was located in a far corner....kind of a weird feeling. The service, though, was excellent. Cheerful gals taking good care of me and and the very few customers at 8am on a Monday. The food was perfect. The best fruit bowl I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Overflowing and perfectly ripe. I also had a small oatmeal and a poached egg. Simple, perfectly cooked and perfectly tasty. I'm sure this place is a lot more crowded on the weekend but my weekday breakfast was just what I was looking for. read more

I used to frequent this place up until about 6 months ago. I don't care about masks, I support a business's right to stay open and work for a living. Your food is mediocre and your alcohol selection is almost non existent but I can deal with that. However, I can't deal with the horrible music blasting through the harbor all day every weekend. The only reason why I'm giving this place two stars is because of the view. Other than that, the food is not what it use to be. Prices are very high for the quality. Service is slow & you should not have to piece your meal together because the lack of knowledge of how each food pairs together. It took 45 minutes and several requests to get our order in while the table next to us ordered and finished before ours even came out. We were told it was due to a huge order BUT other orders around us came out?! They offered to comp the meal but it was still going to be an hour!!! I tried Miss Olson's Coffee Hut because it had good reviews. Honestly I was disappointed. Although, the menu offered a variety of meals, our plates had no flavor, the food wasn't good. I was not impressed quality of the meals and I wasn't impressed with birds flying in the restaurant and hanging out at our table. There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is roomy. First off, I'd like to say that I work at a neighboring business that is not a restaurant, and I also have lived in this neighborhood for the past 8 years. I would sometimes recommend this place for both local and unfamiliar out of town clients. The food was fine - generic, overpriced but large portioned brunch food which most people like. It's a local spot and I always prefer supporting local business owners instead of corporate chains. That being said, seeing how this establishment dealt with Covid compliance this past year, as well as living in this neighborhood and having to deal with being around these people who aren't taking this pandemic seriously, I will never go or recommend this place ever again. This is a Covid hotspot. Masks are optional for both employees (including cooks) and customers alike. They've been open inside for the majority of the past year with no concern for the health of others. From the videos the owner posts on social media, it is obvious he is making this political. The bottom line is unless and until we can get to herd immunity, we're not going to be able to get any closer to getting back to normal. We know masks and vaccines help and that's the bottom line. I understand that the owner has a family to feed, but so do the rest of the businesses out there who are struggling by following the rules and not spreading the virus. I've gone to Mrs. Olson's a handful of times now for a comedy routine, lunch, breakfast and two nights for concerts and Latino dancing. The fries are out of this world! Portion are big. Outdoors has 2 gas fire pits and sand and is really cool at sunset on the water. Wait staff is friendly and brought refills without having to ask. The decor is so fun and hip. Bands play outside during the weekends for brunch. Only open for breakfast and lunch and then special night events. Definitely add this to your list of must eat places that add live entertainment! read more

Wow. We loved this spot when it was tiny and right off the sand. They cared about the food, and seemed like they cared about the customers too. This was our first time trying their new location. Awful!!! So, we show up to the restaurant with 8 people. The host has no face mask, at least one waitress also with no mask and our waitress had a sheer mask on - wtf? This is not a politics thing, it's a jerk, idiot and lack of care for the human population. Our dining group was split evenly 4 Democrats and 4 Republicans - No courtesy for other people, covid soup here. They do no sanitize anything either. We asked them to split our group up into 2 tables, because they we cared about following the CDC guidelines otherwise they would have crammed all 8 at one table. THE FOOD: their famous breakfast potatoes, were cold, bland and boring. Their bacon was 1/3 as skinny as their old location. Their food was cold, sub par and really tasted like a bad chain. 0/8 in our group had decent meal, let alone a good one. This was the best breakfast I have had in a long time...My daughter ate here the nite before came back raving about its yumminess..so we Went back with her! I got the crab cake egg plate, and when it came out, the crab cakes and the eggs were cold and the potatoes tasted spoiled. Yeah, after I got my chilaquiles I had to salt them, pepper them, and drown it with sauce to enjoy it slightly.... the sauce tasted like water. The " tri tip " tasted like unseasoned carne asada. For $18 It's not worth it. This place is meant for senior citizens to enjoy. Service was great the dude with the Star Wars tattoo did amazing and he was the best part of our meal. Our friend from DC was out visiting and staying on our boat and he actually discovered this place one morning. We decided to meet him here as we had always seen it but never tried it. Portions are HUGE! The small biscuit and gravy was enormous...don't order the large unless you're sharing with 2 others!!! The turkey scrambling is huge....my hubby is not tiny and he only ate 1/3 of the scramble. The only downside was the wait for the food....25 mins after our order. I used to live in Oxnard and visited Mrs. Olson's old location several times. We were sad to see that they were no longer there. But looked online and saw that they moved just across the way on the harbor. Next to the old dive bar Spectrum.. (miss that place too). Same great food and service as always. The breakfast potatoes are a must and the dill sauce with the crab cake Breakfast was truly great. Most importantly I was very happy to see a regular hard menu, no masks, and business as usual. I am tired of going out to places that try and force an agenda. I could go on, but don't need to. Our wonderful server filled us in on the association "Brave" that they belong to and it was icing on the cake. If you want a great American breakfast or lunch head to Mrs. Olson's.
