Musubi Square is located off of La Palma Ave and Magnolia in an older, small shopping strip. It's easy to locate and access. Parking is adequate. The store is clean and streamlined, set up with six or so cheery yellow and white tables & chairs. Orders are placed at the counter. The worker today was cordial but didn't give off a welcoming attitude. Food is made to order, so there is a short wait while it's being prepared. I'd seen that they recently added Musubi "tacos" to the menu and came in in search of those. They are larger than the standard musubi and it's reflected in the price of $9 per taco. Today I went with the Wagyu and eel tacos. Presentation in the compostable container is quite nice. Both tacos were DELISH!! The Wagyu beef starts with a layer of rice, followed by a very tasty green sauce (maybe avocado/cilantro/lime?) followed by a thin layer of delicately pickled cucumbers, followed by the beef, and finished with a nice sprinkle of feta. So yum!! The eel taco was even better! A more simple combo, but SO SO good!!! Starting with a layer of rice, followed by a nice layer of crab, topped with a big picece of perfectly cooked eel and a drizzle of eel sauce. Food was ok. Owner needs an attitude adjustment. I ordered my food and decided to go next door because my girlfriend wanted to get a smoothie. Once we came back I asked if he had called our order number and instead of turning around and seeing that our food was ready he snapped, "it takes 10 to 15 to 20 minutes." Once he realized that the food had been sitting there when I asked him about our order he pushed a tray in front of it as to block my view of the food, not knowing I had already seen the food and was now witnessing this pitiful attempt at keeping his ego intact or whatever this was. 10/28/2024 Came for a quick dinner after workout. Was in the area, so thought I'd stop by. First time here. SPAM MUSUBI - The spam wasn't cut thick nor was it too salty, the eggs were soft and fluffy too. The overall flavor had a lovely light sesame flavor with the sweetness of the egg. Honestly, couldn't really taste the spam, but I didn't mind. I would have eaten more of those. The rice had a nice texture and it was not overcooked nor mushy. Musubi was small, which would fit in your hand. I would get more of those next time. A side of yuzu ponzu came with it. I didn't think it was needed. CRISPY CALAMARI TACO MUSUBI - Fried calamari over rice and filled inside a fried nori that is shaped like a hard taco shell. It comes with a wedge of lemon on the side. Use that lemon! It makes a difference. They used a spicy yuzu aioli (according to the menu board), but it did not taste like it. It tasted like a soy sauce based sweet and sour sauce over the fried calamari. Similar to teriyaki sauce, but slightly more soy sauce forward. It was delicious, but slightly more saltier than I desired. I really enjoyed it either way. Their fried calamari was lightly crispy and calamari was not overcooked. The fried nori shell was so good! It brought this nuttiness and saltiness to the overall dish and made it such an enjoyable to eat! Would love to try more of their taco musubis! Would get this again too and checking to make sure they use the spicy yuzu aioli next time. They asked if I wanted any sauces, so I got two sauces. One was a spicy sauce (which may have been soy sauce, red chili flakes, garlic and vinegar) and the other may have been hoisin sauce. Both were not needed nor did it add anything to the musubi. All of these sauces were soy based sauce, so it just added more saltiness to the overall musubi. Had to mention that I love their packaging. They don't wrap their musubis in plastic wrap, but in a firm container. They fit each musubi nicely without it getting crushed while in transit. I can see that the box they used for their taco musubi was custom made and it's such a great fit! CUSTOMER SERVICE I think it was the owner who was there at the front register. There were two workers there. Everyone was nice and did their best to work quickly and efficiently. There were two groups of people who were there and it seemed they were still figuring out what to order. After they ordered, I only ordered two musubis, so my order came out much quicker than expected! SEATS There are seats for smaller groups and two-seaters. There was a small bar seating too, but it's still a small space and those who don't like being seated closer together, should probably have their food to-go. RESTROOM A single unisex restroom is available. It is fairly large and clean too. LOCATION On La Palma & Magnolia. It wasn't easy to find it as it was hidden in a small strip mall. I kept missing it. Look for the La Palma Court sign. There's also a Chevron right next to La Palma Court, so you'll know you're at the right spot. Musubi square is everything my rice-loving tummy desires. I've never actually been to the location, so I can only speak to how good it is when delivered to my home. One thing to note is that it's a smidge cheaper to order from postmates if you're not going in person. Service is friendly and the food comes out quickly. I ordered a salmon rice bowl. The salmon was delicious and served with a lot of rice and charred Brussel sprouts. Rice is flavorful, but a little hard to justify the pricing. Beef bulgolgi has a great sweet meaty flavor, that was my favorite of the three I tried. The soft shell crab was a bit of a disappointment, to be fair I don't eat a lot of soft shell crab but it didn't really pair well altogether with the rice and seaweed. A bit fishy. My husband's miso salmon musubi looked good, but they both fell apart after a bite and had trouble holding their shape. The spam musubis are only 3 dollars for 2 since it's split in half already, while the more unique ones do cost a bit more.
