It seems that their quality and food is on the decline. Prices have been raised along with an additional fee for using credit card. I'm not sure what the change is but My Taco is not the same like it was before. I ordered the carne asada fries, and the fries were undercooked and soggy. The tripas was chewy and was essentially large chunks that needed a couple extra minutes of cook time and to be chopped smaller. They now charge for refills. Staff service was average. read more

I had actually stopped going to My Taco about 2 years ago after my Chile relleno and beef cocido was terrible. Well Friday, March 1st, 2024, I was craving cocido so I thought I'd give My Taco another chance. I hoped maybe they had a new cook, geez was I WRONG. I waited 20 minutes or more for my order, mind you the place was empty at about 4 pm. I rushed home to eat it hot, as soon as I transferred some of it to a bowl, added some rice, onion & cilantro. I took a spoonful and as soon as my taste buds had it, my mind said "WTH IS THIS" it tasted like what rusted or dirty water would taste like. I smelled it and it was off. I asked my granddaughter to taste it and she agreed that it wasn't good, possibly dirty water or fish broth mixed beef bullion. What ever it was, I tossed the bowl out and have the half container to take back to request a refund today. I will never forget this terrible experience and will definitely not come back to this establishment again, not even to give it a 3rd chance!!! read more

I've been a long time supporter of My Taco. But my lunch on Wed 5/12 was the last straw. I ordered by phone a little before noon: One a la cart chile relleno; one asada sope; one chicken taco dorado. Each item was packed separately. When I got home and opened them up, the chicken taco smelled strongly like very rancid chicken. I don't know how the cooks and staff could not have smelled it. They must have, but decided to send it out anyway. That chicken could have made me (or anyone) very sick. And are they sending this kind of food out regularly? Trying to keep food costs down? IDK. But I do know that this has forever turned me off from eating at My Taco. read more

I love My Taco and have been going there for 10+ years, but have been going way less as they've started closing earlier and earlier over the years. Used to be 10 pm, then 9 pm, and now 8 pm, which means you need to get in by 7:30 because they're more focused on going home than on serving you and might just decide to close early. I hope this is just for the pandemic and that they'll go back to staying open later, just as someone who doesn't eat dinner that early. Also they turned the small (perfectly-sized!) burrito into a "kids" burrito and inexplicably refuse to put anything other than (I think) carne asada and chicken in it. It's a shame, because it's the perfect amount of burrito for someone who doesn't want an enormous burrito. Still. Extremely poor quality these days! I am not quite sure what has happened to My Taco over the last 3-4 years but their quality and consistency has gone WAAAAY down. I have ordered A Shrimp Burrito about 2-3 times over the last 3 years which is supposed to come with Shrimp, Rice, Beans, Cabbage, Tomato, and Onion. What I received was Pure Cabbage and Tomatoes with about 6 or 7 Shrimps. What the hell is that?! Are my orders mistakenly bein given to me instead of the "Pescatarian" hipster-that-hates-beans-and has-a gluten allergy-that ordered it?! They also no longer make Guacamole nor do they have it readily available in the salsa bar as they used to. Horrible! Such a shame as this used to be one of my favorite spots to eat at in Highland Park. Save your money and go eat some consistently bomb Mexican food at Chicos on Ave 50 and Figueroa. read more

Disappointed. This was my family's go-to spot for mouth-watering goodness for years. Food is now ok. Think twice before ordering the carne asada fries, especially to go. Not worth the price. I ordered a veggie burrito and carne asada fries to go today (Sunday 10/2). The meat was passable, but dried out and chewier than expected. The fries were limp, flavorless. It tasted like they were store bought from the freezer section. The veggie burrito is fine. Generous portions! You can get better tasting for a lower price elsewhere. The prices are up, and based on what I ordered today, the food quality has gone significantly down. I called to let them know, Maria was receptive and open to feedback. It's also Sunday so I'm not sure if they needed to move product. Based on my phone conversation with Maria, the meat is marinated and prepared fresh daily. Yay! Sometimes, the quality depends based on the cook that day and how long it stays on the grill. I think the cook is new (3 months). Sounds like she's on it! The ratio of carne asada fries was 80% carne asada and 20% fries. This could just be a packaging technique since I ordered to go. If the meat was good, I wouldn't mind the amount of meat compared to the number of fries. It would work great to make other meals. Overall, I wish the food was better. I've now eaten at My Taco many times. The Borrega tacos and or the Borrego barbacoa plate truly are one of the best things I've ever tasted. Come for that, if nothing else...my son said his carne asada burrito was good but not amazing, this being his go to order. He would know. But there are many other things on the menu that we have yet to try. The people who work there are always very pleasant. For the somewhat dingy strip mall it's in, the place is very clean and the staff radiates care and pride. Not a lot of atmosphere inside, we usually pick up food and eat it at home. Gave this place one more chance and I totally regret it , fiancé ordered the monsto burrito and half of the ingredients were missing , no lettuce no tomato no sour cream no guacamole, it was all rice and beans with hardly any meat , FAIL I ordered the carne asada fries with no guacamole because I have an avocado allergy, I literally wrote no guacamole avacado allergy no guacamole please on the order when the food got here they had put a bunch of sliced avocado on the top , what part of avocado allergy was confusing for them I don't know but the whole thing was a giant fail . This is one of my go-to spots for lunch. They are a bit pricey, but there is a LOT of food and all of it is tasty. Their rice and beans are fantastic. Horchata is great and gigantic. Breakfast burrito lasts two meals at least. They are also generous with the salsa, and the people there are very friendly. The only thing I would probably have to remember to ask for next time is a knife for the chile rellano. It was a bit hard to cut with just a fork. read more

The lady who brought out my food didn't come check on my to see if I liked the food until another worker asked me toward the end. Don't let the outside fool you! If you judge this book by its cover you'll be missing out on some of the most authentic Mexican quinine at affordable prices Highland Park has to offer. Came here with my family on 4th of July. I ordered a steak quesadilla and carnitas nachos. Also got the watermelon horchata (which was to die for!). The quesadilla looked and tasted homemade. I honestly wasn't too impressed with the nachos. They put quest on top and I prefer melted Mexican cheese. Also the meat was too thin and a bit charred. My dad got the shrimp and chicken fajitas which looked bomb! The great service and clean facility are part of what draw me back for another visit. Next time I'll probably try a burrito. read more

Anyways, when a place is called My Taco, their tacos better be good. Sadly, the tortillas that they use are factory-made and they do that stupid double-layering thing with the tortillas. Also, the three types of meat that I ended up getting tasted flat-out pathetic. Look, the carne asada meat was dry and tasted like it was boiled and the al pastor was cut into chunks and grilled in a way that it tasted like pan-fried chicken. Meh! * While the jamaica-flavored agua fresca was good, they put way too much ice in it. I ordered a large and 3/4s of my cup was filled with ice. * The salsa at My Taco was okay and consisted of a guac sauce, a mild salsa roja, and a slightly spicy salsa roja. The salsa bar also included chopped onions and cilantro, limes, radishes, grilled jalapeños, and pickled jalapeños/carrots like the stuff out of cans. I got their Carne Asada Fries (CAF) because I was craving it while I was staying at my parents. Living in South Pasadena, I havent seen any good taco places nearby. Tacos Tacos Tacos! I loved the tacos al pastor and the taco con carne asada. They give you a lot of meat so it can be a little messy to eat. But they're so good! Love the flavors! The horchata was really good too! Perfectly sweet to my liking! There seems to be plenty of parking within the plaza, but can be hard to find a spot during busy meal time hours. This place is close to us and they are on ChowNow so it's convenient to place online orders. The food is pretty good. I always order tacos (cabeza, lengua, al pastor). The meat is pretty tender. Cabeza is my favorite. The corn tortillas do fall apart at times. My boyfriend always orders the carne asada torta and it's huge. He is always pleased with it. What's disappointing is their customer service. Every time we've gone they run out of something and they won't tell us. I always check the order to make sure everything is there (out of habit) and there is one worker that rolls her eyes every time I tell her something is missing. Then the other worker (who hears our exchange) will offer a refund. How come they don't check to make sure everything is there? Why the attitude? I don't know what happened to this place. This was my menudo spot for years. I ordered menudo at the counter with a drink. I walked to a table and every table was not cleaned off from the previous customer that ate there. I found the lone empty table that was clean and the table top felt like it was about to fall off. One of the ladies that worked there even saw me trying to adjust the top but said and did nothing. Had to switch to a another table. When I got my menudo l knew just by looking at it that it was to fatty. I could just see the broth was filled with fat. I never saw that before. It used to have plenty of tripe but now they cut it by adding cow foot which is not my favorite. I was hungry and hungover so I pressed on. No surprise it was fatty and not very good. I recently have been hooked on the tortas here, they are the Bomb! Asada is not good here so I don't recommend that, but Carnitas, pastor, lengua and the Birria all winners here! Wet burritos are good! They also have a large burrito it's huge!!! The food is good too, chilaquiles are on point. The biggest best kept secret here is the tacos de tripa! If you are a true Mexican you love you some tacos de tripa! The tripa is super crispy! This place has improved dramatically, just remember the Asada is No Bueno!! It's dry and flavorless! I ordered a carne asada tostada and it comes with sour cream and guacamole and when I opened my bag to make sure my order was correct I was missing the guacamole and when I questioned the woman where is my guacamole, she got upset and told me it didn't come with guacamole so I had to point it out to her in the menu and instead of her just apologizing for her mistake she got upset with me and started talking nonsense. After seeing some of the newer reviews, I realized it was time for this white lady to leave her own. Ive been coming here for several years- at least 4 or 5. In the beginning, I didn't feel either welcome or unwelcome, but I just kept showing up, being polite, and doing my best with pronunciation. There have been some instances of rudeness over the years, as there will be with most businesses if you go there often enough. These things happen and it's not fair to judge an entire business- especially a local one working against major odds to stay open through lockdowns and other obstacles- for an employee having a lousy day.
