I have gotten gel manicure here 2 times and coincidentally I've been helped by Vanna every time. What I like about her is that she takes her time in trying to perfect my nails from start to finish. Because of the quality of her work, my nails last for a very long time. I usually go to another nail salon because their gel manicure cost $10 less. However, I am willing to pay the extra $10 for this place because the quality I get from here is much better. I'll make an appointment and request for Vanna the next time I come here. They have an iPad next to the front door where you can check-in by inputting your phone number. You earn points by doing this and they occasionally send discounts as well. The nail salon is clean and they play calming music like what you would hear when getting a massage. All of the ladies that work here have been very nice and welcoming. read more

Came here for gel art. Everyone is really friendly and professional. Vibe is chill and clean. Love that they have gloves for the UV light. The art is also amazing and Sammi is amazing at what she does! Unfortunately I feel disappointed because I was cut so many times during the cleaning. It's crazy because the worst ones were not by the clippers, but by the nail file! I have so many cuts lol. It didn't seem like a huge deal at the time, but I realized after that the cuts were very deep into the sides of my nails. Although I've been accidentally clipped before, I haven't experienced this level of discomfort after a manicure. It's been 4 days since I've gotten them done, and it still stings a lot. One cut is starting to get infected, so I have to wear a bandaid over it, and that kinda defeats the purpose of me getting my nails done. I got builder gel done with Vanna and she is super detail oriented and spends her time on filing your nails and making sure they're the right shape for you. OK, I used to come here a lot and I think they got comfortable with me waiting one day I had a four hour nail session for regular French tips and regular French tip on my toes. They did not recommend that I signed in or anything and when I found out about it, they did not tell me about the point system. I always tip them too $20-$30 altogether. When I asked the owner, can I be compensated for the four hours that I was there little to nothing was said to me so I stopped going, but would I recommend this place not really because of a simple fact that they take way too long and once you get comfortable, they don't really care. They just leave you there to take care of new incoming customer since they already know you. The fact that they also rarely offer me any water or anything even worse. I've been meaning to make this review and I'm only doing it because I'm leaving reviews for all the places that I have been to and this by far would be my bottom two for wait time and urgency if you're looking for a quick come and go here is not the place even if you're looking for a relaxing session, it might not be the case either because once you see how much they add to your service per thing, it gets ridiculous. I paid almost $300 for my hand and my nails with design then on top of that they have no creativity. They want you to decide everything how you wanted to look in all this and all that I came in here for relaxation not more complications two out of five only because they're located in a prime location but would I go back probably not and haven't been back for months after that incident where I had to sit there and wait four hours to get my nails done when I made an appointment already too it's only two people in there that can do designs so you're rotating in between two. read more

And then on my most recent visit I got a technician who didn't listen to me at first when I told him to turn the hot water off when they were filling the basin. He trimmed the nails on my right foot and then started wrapping both of my feet in cellophane to prep them for heel grating WITHOUT trimming the nails on my left foot first. I had to stop him from wrapping my feet to tell him. The foot massage I was given was with hot stones, which is something I hadn't been offered there before but it mostly a calf massage and not a foot massage. I don't like nail polish so I asked for my nails to be buffed - the only nails that really looked like they had been buffed were my big toes. I was polite and gave him the obligatory 20% tip but it was uncomfortable enough that I don't plan to return. read more

Longer: I've lived in the Hayes Valley meets Civic Center meets Valencia/Mission 'hood for ~4 years now (+ decade+ as an adult in other areas of SF) and had previously visited this location when it was Rainbow Nail Spa. That shop was suddenly closed up with no sign indicating closure, so while on a recent walk to the Market/Dolores Whole Foods, I was delighted when I saw the GRAND OPENING sign hanging on the awning. After a long weekend of a few volunteer shifts + giving 2003 emo high school me a wild ride at OSL (THANK YOU POSTAL SERVICE *face holding back tears / sobs* emojis), and many many months *gasp* since my last manicure, my cuticles were in rough shape (too much hand sanitizer over the weekend *shrug*). My bestie had recently returned from weeks at the beach and wanted a pedicure. It is rare I can drag her with me to any nail shop, so although I had a badly bruised toe and couldn't get a pedi myself, I figured a normal mani would be a good test of this new shop's quality. I called ahead to ensure the two of us could be seen at the same time and made an appt for a few hours later. We were5-10 min delayed for our appt and they were very understanding (I attempted to call as we were on our way, but no answer). They greeted us warmly when we walked in, and addressed us by my name, as if they were expecting us (duh, but this (wrongly) feels special, as it had not happened for me at the last shop I made an appt for/received a pedicure). After much hemming and hawing over colors while our service people patiently waited by, bestie climbed in a massage chair and I settled into your standard nail shop manicure table across the way. The woman cleaned away my sorry cuticles, coming back a few times to snip errant dry skin. Once she wrapped up the color and top coat, I moved over to a UV dryer near the front door. Bestie's feet took a little longer, but eventually she joined me to dry her toes in same spot, even though there were no other customers using the massage chairs. Next time I'll ask to dry in the massage chairs :P The owner(?)/manager(?) Sammie arrived a few minutes after our treatments began, and she informed us of her nail design skills + second location (listed as Mani Pedi Spa) on Polk between Sacramento & California. I'm not a design kinda gal, but have a few friends who I'll definitely pass the info. I'm so hard on my nails, I was thrilled when there were no chips or smudges when waking the next day (after doing dishes, failing to put gloves on), and even more when the polish and cuticles were still in great shape five days later! I'm not particularly brand-loyal for pedicures, as the cost from shop to shop is within $1 or $2, but there are a few things I require to be a repeat customer: 1. meticulous attention to cuticles/dead skin removal 2. strong massage 3. reasonable cost for "extra" massage 4. massage chairs I'll definitely return to try out the massage chairs+pedicure once my bruised toenail heals. I liked my Gel X nails. The nails lasted me several months. But two problems. 1. The woman kept getting distracted and kept putting the UV light on my skin. I'm not sure if she knows the damages about UV light but it seemed worrisome and I didn't appreciate that. My hands kind of hurt afterwards. 2. It was difficult to take the nails off and taking them off damaged my nail beds which has never happened before in other places. I'm not sure if they put them on correctly in the first place or if they used the correct materials. read more

Good: Nice clean shop. Pleasant staff. Bad: The lady I had... wasn't proficient. I came in with an appointment for a fill. My nails were only two wks old, I just didn't like style. My nails are in good condition, I could have gone another two weeks. None chippied or broken... we're talking basic maintenance with a fill. So, why did this woman mess around with my nails for an hour and a half... and still want half way done. While putting on acrylic in a dap-dap 1/10th of dime quantity. I have long nails... how on earth is that supposed to work?? I did mention to the lady several areas on the corners that she completely missed. Fast forward, in comes Quynh ... she let's lady continue another 15 min, then she takes over. Quynh is very talented with her nail work and doing designs . She did an ombre style with gel and powder. If this review was simply on her work I'd say 4 or 5..., but the whole experience and finished outcome 3. At the end of the day, in addition to pleasant staff you need competent staff. Whole process should have taken 1hr...1.5hrs maybe from juggling.... it took almost 3hrs on a fill and we're talking thick, poor shaping. read more

Decided to check this place out and saw it was 20% off grand opening from Yelp. When I arrive they said it was only 10% off this month and only August was 20%. There weren't any customers when I arrived. It's clean inside and lots of colors to choose from. Any regular color they said they also have in gel which was nice. Everyone was friendly and started right away. Water or tea was offered. I had gel polish on that needed removed. They don't use the little tool to remove the gel polish and all manually done. I chose my colors and did regular pedi and gel mani as I was leaving for vacation a couple days later. At the end they do a very short massage and felt fairly nice but very weak. The end product of the pedi was pretty good but quality lacking a bit. Mani quality was terribly disappointing. Most all nails had a bubbly look to the surface and was not smooth. I thought I'd have time to go back to have them fix it before going out of town but no such luck. A couple days later the bubbling looked worse, then started to crack and peel, and then part of a layer came off. Never in my life have I had this happen with gel. And I certainly wouldn't expect it to happen 2 days later. Mine normally last 3-4 weeks without chipping or peeling at all. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be back. Payment was requested by Venmo instead of credit card and tipped in cash. read more

That's their manicure and pedicure! Two of my fingernails lifted after just one week. When I went back to get them fixed, he asked me to pay so he only applied some glue. That's ridiculous. As for the toenails, he didn't even give me time to let the polish dry, and this is the result. The man who did my manicure and pedicure was rude. I didn't even want to communicate with him at all. All the ladies were very friendly and I really appreciated that my tech was very meticulous with the details, getting my nails super clean and the color and lines very sharp. And this cherry detail I asked for came out so cute! This was my second time here and will probably be my last. I was turned off by my nail technicians bedside manners not too mention she was a little rough on my cuticles. I understand language barrier but all that was said to me was two things "what color"and " tip". I used to come here when it's rainbow nails. Wanted to give this new business a chance; so far I've visited this new management/shop 3 times and I won't return. The ladies who worked on my nails have been pretty good. So this is not about the quality of the work. This is about how the owner runs this place -- cutting corners to save money every chance she gets. 1. It was cold and heat wasn't on. Customers and workers were both freezing. I had to ask the owner to turn on the heat. 2. They charge a fee for paying with credit card; even smaller shops in the neighborhood allow credit card charges! 3. They don't have a playlist. They have ONE SONG. And that song keeps on getting cut off and repeat... this is the case/same one song all three times I was there. It gets super annoying when you spend 1+ hour getting your nails done. Please take customers' experience into consideration and make this a more enjoyable nail shop. read more

I just love Sammi (Huynh) the owner. I'm very particular about my nails, and she and Britney always do a fantastic job. I got builder gel, thinly done with an almond/oval shape done by Britney, and the design by Sammi. This week I opted for a tribal design with 3D gold accents, and my standard Palestinian flag on my thumb till a peaceful resolution is reached.
