I wish I could give this a 4.5 stars, because it's more than just 4 stars. After multiple attempts of getting a reservation, we finally had the opportunity to eat here on a Sunday evening. It was WELL worth the wait and I now understand why it is so popular (aka, one needs a reservation about a week in advance for a Saturday night). Service was outstanding. Let me repeat, OUTSTANDING. Our waiter fantastic in explaining all of the German and Austrian foods/ drinks and furthermore, the people who served us the food, the people who cleared out plates - all of them were SO wonderfully nice. Food is outstanding. Mushroom soup was creamy and melted in my mouth. The goat cheese pillow salad was literally a pillow of cheese and absolutely delicious. Kraut Roulden was food of the melt-in-your-mouth caliber. The pasta was also wonderful. Sauce was a brilliant orange with terrific flavor. I would also recommend the stew-like Hungarian Beef Goulash. I'm going for the five star review here because the one drawback of the evening (the aforementioned "strange" service) was like much of the service found in Austria itself, so I'm counting it as "authenticity" rather than "strangeness". While Austria is full of delicious food and wine (and many other fantastic things), service can sometimes come off as abrupt when compared with the convivial service found in our American establishments. All that aside - our meal and drinks and the restaurant itself was divine. The goat cheese purse salad with strawberries was excellent, particularly when paired with a glass of bubbly. My husband had the goulash, which was flavorful and rich and worth eating despite the warm temperatures outside. To balance the temps, he just had another Weiss bier - for its cooling properties, of course ;) I had the salmon, which was roasted perfectly and seasoned lightly, so that you could savor the flavor without being overrun by spices all crusted on there like you find so often in fish dishes. The farro, chard and artichoke were also very good and paired nicely with the fish. We shared the mushroom pastry appetizer, which was heavenly. The Speck was the best I've had since our travels in Germany and Austria and will single-handedly get us hauling our butts back to this restaurant. For dessert, we shared the (Schoko Kuchen) chocolate cake with its warm flowing center, chocolate ice cream and banana. Even though we were stuffed, we finished it all with a little help from our friend, The Espresso. And I can't forget the cucumber gimlet that started off the evening - very good! They add the cucumber wedge sprinkled with salt, which added a nice contrast to the sweetness of the cocktail. Overall, a fantastic evening in a simple but elegant restaurant. We love dining here for more than one reason, but the main being that I believe my Austrian grandmother would love and approve of the delicious food here. My grandma still makes most of the items available on the menu, and I was spoiled with her wonderful, delicious dishes growing up. My husband and I moved away from our hometown last year, and now I'm too far to enjoy her schnitzel or goulash. Came here the 2nd time for my birthday dinner. Ordered the jagersnietzel again and it was quite tasty. My husband and friend ordered the pork belly. They said it was the best thing they ever ate. And then we went with the Artichoke Soup - completely heavenly. He had the Jager Schnitzel and I had the Goulash. Both were super rich and full of flavor. Nashcmarkt Restaurant is located in downtown Campbell not far from the train tracks. Small place. It has a good selection of Nordic beers and the ambiance and service are nice. Be sure to make reservations before you go. Parking is always difficult but you can find a spot if you are familiar with the area. Great soups, appetizers and main dishes. The food was awesome on Valentine's night. The prices are on the high side but inline with other higher end restaurants. read more

Great service and quick seating; we waited at the bar for only a few minutes before they seated us. The atmosphere was cozy and electric from the mood lighting and intimate conversations. Even more importantly the food was fantastic! Well prepared and carefully selected. I would definitely recommend the Jäger Schnitzel! My boyfriend and I recently had dinner at Naschmarkt for the first time and we were really impressed. The wait staff were incredibly friendly and professional, and the environment was beautiful. Neither of us was very familiar with Austrian cuisine, so our waiter was really helpful and explained some of the menu options, along with recommendations for newbies like us. We split an order of the corn chowder (which our waiter offered to put in two separate bowls - awesome) and it was to die for. Then he tried the classic Wiener schnitzel and I tried the jäger schnitzel (when in Rome, right?). Everything was phenomenal. I mean, really, so good. And unlike some of the other nearby, super delicious but pricey restaurants in downtown Campbell, the portions were very large. We easily could have taken home half of our food and been satisfied. My boyfriend and I had my birthday dinner last night and it was our first visit. We had reservations and it's a good thing because even on a Wednesday night an hour before closing they were packed. We ordered cocktails and a salad to start. I had a something fizz and it was a sweet and creamy frothy drink that I loved! The salad had fresh strawberries and balsamic dressing very light and crisp. For our entrees we had the beef goulash and some kind of stuffed cabbage and both were very flavorful. We ordered the mushroom side as well as grilled asparagus and both were cooked to perfection. Our server was okay, he wasn't very talkative or friendly but he was professional. The owner checked up on us and was very nice. Would definitely go back! My favorite thing was the cocktails. Second time coming here and was not disappointed! My girlfriend and I have been looking for a good German/Austrian restaurant for our special occasion date nights. The spetzle appetizer is amazing and you can't go wrong with any of the entrees. We also tried the bratwurst which was good. My GF had the jager schnitzel and really enjoyed it! It's basically a thin pork cutlet, breaded and covered in a mushroom gravy. I don't see how you can go wrong there. I had the NY steak and it was delicious as well! Tons of garlic on the plate so if you love garlic, I'd grab some of it and rub it on the steak. Lastly, for dessert, we had the souffle which is our favorite. While there were limited vegetarian options -- indeed, of the mains there was vegetarian spätzle and a modified pasta dish minus the meat but for the same price -- those vegetarian adaptations were incredibly bland. Overall, the food was wonderful and the wait staff was very attentive and friendly. If you're concerned about Covid, go early or late or request a table outside as the space inside is cramped and tables are certainly not separated by 6ft. Couldn't believe that the $25 scallop appetizer was served with only 2 scallops (inflation is real!) but the two of us each enjoyed our scallop very much. Next time we'll stick to one of the more traditional appetizers instead. Fine selection of German/Austrian beers and wines. The Kruger Riesling and the Andechs dunkel weissbier were our favs. Would definitely order the Jager (pork) schnitzel again as an entree. The sauce on the schnitzel was well balanced and the mushrooms were a nice complement and not too earthy or overpowering, all of it pairing well with the spaetzle and even the crusty bread they bring to the table. The soufflé dessert was heavenly but the molten chocolate cake (kuchen) was unbalanced. The uber rich, slightly bitter dark chocolate plowed right through the subtle flavors of the caramel and banana and seemed to clash with the espresso gelato (a simple vanilla gelato would've done wonders for this dish). In the end though, this was a lovely place that we can't wait to try again albeit with some different selections to start and end the meal. read more

My heritage is German, and I always loved the kraut, slaw and (especially) desserts that were served at family get-togethers when I was a child. Even though my grandmother is no longer around to cook those fantastic meals, there are four or five German/Austrian restaurants in the area that allow me to get my "fix". But Naschmarkt is my favorite because it has the feel of a real upscale German restaurant instead of the usual beer-hall "oom-pah" atmosphere of most. But it isn't just the ambiance - the food is authentic, extremely good and the service is excellent. Highly recommended. read more

My first thought when I look at the pictures on Yelp, it's wasn't going to be good as the type of food is not what I prefer to eat. I was wrong. Everything was delicious. The food was cooked just right with perfect moist so that you don't get tried of it. We got the salmon, halibut, and chicken entrees. They have the best spaetzle in the United States. I'm sure of it. I've eaten here twice, and I lucked into the spaetzle the first time. I would fly to San Jose just to eat this spaetzle: that's how exceptionally good it is. I have considered asking them to ship it to me in a refrigerated box, but you know, sometimes it's a better idea to strive to preserve your sanity instead of indulging every little whim. Anyway, the other thing worth mentioning is that this might be the hippest place on the Peninsula. It's like the black mock turtle neck of restaurants. We were downtown Campbell, and trying to figure out where to eat, when we spotted the relatively new Naschmarkt. The food is traditional German/Austrian fare with fresh local ingredients. I had the bratwurst with sauerkraut. It was solidly good, and tasty. We ate outside, and it was cozy, and adorable, if a little bit close- quartered. Our waiter, Bob was friendly and chatty and on top of everything... without being obtrusive. He even wrapped up his evening giving us a little bit about the history of the place. Went here for the second time last night, and was not as impressed as the first time. I think it came down to last nights waiter, who just wasn't especially good. He constantly seemed distracted, and didn't seem especially interested in what he was serving us. The food was solid, but not great. I had a goat cheese salad to start with that was unbalanced, with far too much cheese (or not enough greens) and so little dressing that the little that was there was pointless. Then, wiener schnitzel with lingenberry sauce. The schnitzel was good, especially in terms of portion size, but there wasn't nearly enough sauce with it, so after I'd enjoyed half of it, I then was just eating incredibly dry schnitzel by itself. Not good. I'm sure if I'd asked I would have been able to get some extra sauce, but our waiter never bothered coming to see if everything was alright, so I didn't get chance to (I'm not someone to shout across a restaurant to get a waiters attention). The potato salad that came with it was good - possibly the highlight of the meal. All told, an underwhelming experience. read more

My first experience with traditional Austrian food. All I can say is, wow. Every single course was excellent, with my favorite being the Pork Belly. Also highly recommend the Quark Spatzle appetizer and their soups. As for drinks, the cucumber gimlet was spot on for me and they had a great selection of Austrian and German wines. Ambiance was nice and cozy, and the service was near perfect. The only downside is the restaurant is a little pricey. I would give it 3.5 dollar signs instead of just the 3. We had dinner on a Saturday night after craving some germanic/austrian food. Restaurant is very charming: New space and kitchen that opens over the bar and into the restaurant. It is intimate, so great for couples, but probably not great for groups over 4. It was busy and every table was taken when we went at 9pm on a Saturday. I had the Double Cooked Pork Belly. My wife had the Kraut Rouladen. Pork belly was very "rich" (go figure) and the Rouladen was like a meatball wrapped in cabbage. Both tasted great, but a little salty. The side with the rouladen was a potato, which unfortunately tasted salty to the point of briny. Dessert was unbelievable. Apple/raisin bread pudding with toasted meringue and drizzle of vanilla sauce. Flavors were sweet and bright. Perfect portion to share with one other person. Naschmarkt really nailed this plate! Wait staff was very professional, helpful with the menu, and friendly. Overall, a little pricey and the food was a little salty, but we enjoyed it and will probably return soon (might return specifically for the bread pudding!). read more

I seriously wanted to like this restaurant. Not too many German restaurants in east bay so I had high hopes. I ordered the scallops (i know.. not really a German food) and it was fantastic. Moist and the puree was just to die for with the scallops. Actually, i loved the puree so much that I dipped into my friends. Then I had the Kraut Rouladen. Basically a gourmet meat mall. I was impressed with explosion of flavors with my first bite then i was greeted with lots of salt. The potatos were also salty. Then we had the halibut.. also salty. LIke they sprinkled salt twice. We complained and and the waiter allowed us to order a replacement, the pork belly. I think this was better but my pallet was a bit ruined after 2 plates of salty dish. I think its worth another visit before i make my final say but be aware, it can be salty~ read more

I'm really tired of rewriting my reviews on yelp! I came here with a few friends for dinner on a Friday night, we walked in and had no problem being seated surprisingly. My friend liked his weiner schnitzel, I didn't have it so I couldn't say. Not a fan of what I tried but maybe because I'm probably not the biggest fan of this type of food. The 3 was for food. Other then that, the location was prime in Campbell, on the further end of the strip, parking available close by. Atmosphere was cute and trendy, and service was good. We love Naschmarkt. The food is different from anything else in the area and always so good. We were a bit concerned that the uniqueness of this food would not lend itself to "take out." We were wrong. Look, food is always better at the restaurant - that's a given. But, Naschmarkt flavors travel well. My favorite has always been the Rouladen - it's just so unique and so savory and delicious. I ordered that tonight and my husband got the classis Schnitzel. We came here on a whim and I'm so happy we did. The food and service here is awesome. When we first got here we were seated in the outside portion of the restaurant, but it was well heated and it was actually really nice because it wasn't as loud as inside. Our waiter Bob is the best. He asked us if we had any dietary restrictions, which I do have. He was able to accommodate my vegan needs without any hesitation. The entree they specialized for me is easily one of the best vegan meals I've ever had. It was a mix of veggies tossed in a garlic sauce and is so so delicious. My carnivorous family enjoyed the restaurant as well finishing the entire steak, ham, and pork schnitzel. The deserts were super tasty too. I had the trio of sorbets, while they had the chocolate cake and apple strudel. I will 100% be coming back for special occasions. It is a little pricey, but very worth it! :) read more
