We went for for a birthday lunch celebration. We sampled the mahi mahi dip - and it did not disappoint. The biscuits were delightful alone but the seaweed butter added a pleasant surprise. My salmon was a decent helping and cooked medium, very flaky. My water cup was never empty. The service was superb. The staff was very attentive. The decor was beautiful. We came opening weekend (sorry I know I'm a little behind on my review) for a girls night dinner. So I will have to say, I don't love this restaurant as much as I love Bludorn. Overall the meal was good, even though prices were steep. We did family style and a few dishes were misses, even though most of them I enjoyed. I'd give 3.5 stars, just cause service was very good. 1) Mussel bisque: nice way to start the meal, especially with that puff pastry 2) Grilled octopus salad: bright and refreshing with the preserved lemon 3) spaghetti vongole: It was my least favorite dish. It needed some salt and citrus to round out the dish and give it some flavor. I felt like I could make better at home. It was very underwhelming 4) Branzino: one of my favorite dishes of the night, but beware the portion is very small, esp for the price 5) truffle spaghetti: this was NOT good for the money. I'm a fan of Bludorn, so I just had to try their new sister spot, Navy Blue. The restaurant decor is fresh yet luxe, dressed tastefully in stylish but warm and welcoming finishes. The high ceilings, with its exposed pipes and hardware are both industrial and chic, bathed in white. I dined at the bar and enjoyed the extremely friendly, attentive, and polished service. Starter was a simply stunning Caesar Salad, built with hearty romaine hearts, a zesty, creamy dressing, pickled anchovies, and the most fabulous, gorgeous croutons which, themselves, were stars in their own right. I also had a few fried oysters which, if I'm honest, we're a tad disappointing. Mind you, the fried oysters I've declared the best ever were at Bludorn, and I expected the same. Alas, they were not as crispy, and lacked oomph, in addition to being under-seasoned. The seafood risotto was simply ok... didn't quite blow me away like I'd hoped, but the biscuit and its accompanying butter were delicious: light and tender center within a crisp, flavorful crust. This is my new #1 favorite seafood restaurant in Houston, or even maybe of all time. I have been obsessed with raw oysters lately, and this place has the absolute BEST raw oysters--no sand at all, completely clean, smooth, amazing. We got a dozen with half from Maryland and half from Alabama, I would highly recommend. Next, the entrees were also top tier. My boyfriend got the dry aged striploin, which he really liked. I personally don't like super aged meat, but this was super good. I ordered the scallops and they were so good. The best scallops I have had. I ordered two drinks: Rose to the Bottom and London Calling. They were both really good and did not give me a hangover. My boyfriend ordered Pau Hau (might have spelled that wrong) and Lift Up, he really loved the Pau Hau drink. The service was also SO amazing. We love how it is not just a single waiter/waitress doing everything for one table and instead a team of people. One person ordered our drinks and explained them to us, another ordered our food and stayed with us throughout the meals, and a third one checked up on us and made sure we had everything we needed. It was Dallas-level service. We will 100% be returning and hopefully soon. read more

Would like to start off saying Isabel and Milton were fantastic. The drink/food suggestions were spot on and we were always tended to. We made a reservation for 2045 on a Saturday night and the hosts seated us promptly in a booth upon arrival. It was a bit louder than Bludorn, but the space had a very warm feeling to it. We were first treated to some fresh biscuits. The accompanying butter is great if you love seaweed. I love seaweed. Fiancée does not, but still loved the biscuits. Oysters were a good opener, as it took a whole twenty seconds for us to finish all of the servings. Between the baked and fried options we favored the flavor of the baked, though if you're looking for a more salty crunch then the fried is a great option. The crab cake had a ton of crab in it. We were expecting a standard cake with a ton of breading and were pleasantly surprised. It was flavorful and the slaw on the bottom end was the right amount of smooth. Isabel did well in letting us know to go with the smaller portion of the risotto with the snapper if we were looking to have dessert, though if we were to have ordered the larger portion we would probably still ate the remaining snapper and knocked out dessert. The snapper had a slight kick to it and the risotto had differing textures which we both appreciated. To close we had the strawberry panna cotta and were treated to the carrot cake. The ice cream on the panna cotta cut the tart of the strawberry and the little nibs made it to where the sweet didn't overpower everything. That carrot cake is very smooth and rich; we were not able to finish it at the table so I devoured it at home with a nice cup of coffee. Wow, wow, wow!!! This place was absolutely increíble both times we have visited. Definitely a place to dress yourself up for and better to have a reservation. The first time was with my husband and in-laws and second time was for our anniversary, both experiences were excellent. The staff was very friendly and attentive with a rotation between your waiter and a server who ordered/brought drinks and changed out silver wear, etc. Our in-laws were able to discuss wine selections with the Somm, who was very helpful as well. For our anniversary, they provided a complimentary glass of actually good champagne! Their cocktails are complicated sounding on the menu, however all flavors work well together and when presented they are simple (clear large ice cubs and nothing floating around), classy and very tasty. As for the food, the Caesar salad was amazing and big enough to split. We had a combination of oysters raw and baked and WOW both were awesome. First meal, we split the Dover Sole which was expertly filleted at our table directly onto our plate with a delicious sauce drizzled on the side. Second meal was the branzino (an entire fish!) already de-boned and big enough to split as well. The sides are also delicious and meant to be shareable. Last, but not least is the dessert- the most incredible and beautiful key lime pie with macadamia nuts I have ever seen. I think this is my new favorite chill date night place in Houston!! We went there on a Friday night at around 6:30 pm because there was no reservation available and we got a table right away! The place started to get packed around 7 so we came at a good time I think. The ambiance was modern yet sophisticated and everything we ordered was super delicious. Chefs need to go to Hugo's or O'Porto to taste how grilled octopus done well tastes like. The eggplant didn't really work in the recipe. I wasn't all that hungry so I had the Grouper Sandwich with fries. Excellent sandwich with crispy grouper and super yummy fries. Friends had Branzino and seafood gumbo. All reported the gumbo was right on target with Branzino cooked just right. The highlight was the Key Lime pie. Didn't last but one minute on the table. This intimately designed space in the heart of the rice village, has a look and feel like you might be in London The space large , the bar has a scene and the bar staff made a great old fashioned for me. Service is great but on our visit they didn't have it as seamless as they do at Bludorn - I was asked several times if I wanted another drink and being asked 3x before receiving another drink felt like a lot. We got the fried oysters, I had the Fish Sandwich and my fiancé had one of the fish simply prepared. The biscuits though were something to write home about. Tried Navy Blue for the first time on a busy Saturday night and it completely lived up to my expectations! From the food, to the service, to the ambiance, everything was just how expected it to be (and actually even better). Navy Blue was a fantastic experience! I visited for a private event that had a buffet, so we got to try a little bit of everything, all of which I loved! The items that stood out to me were the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and oh-so-tasty; the caesar salad, which had perfect dressing and amazing croutons; and the broccoli rabe side, which was fresh and added a nice green to the meal. There were also cheddar biscuits that I really enjoyed. Good about food allergy awareness (which is why I gave them a star), awful service in every other way. Server literally took my plate away from under me while I was eating from it. When I told our waiter I like drinks that are sweet but not too sweet (to get his recommendation) he told me that there was nothing on the menu that was a good fit. They must also prebatch their cocktails because they said they couldn't make any modifications to the drinks whatsoever. After rushing us through a course so fast that we couldn't even finish our expensive dish (because I was so shocked about them taking the plate out from under me while I was eating off it that I didn't even say anything), they then took forever with subsequent courses, and we had no desire to stay for dessert. We asked if we could order dessert to go, with the ice cream put on top, and they said no; that would ruin the integrity of the dessert because the ice cream would melt. We said we didn't care, and they said no - that we could eat the ice cream there and take the rest of the dessert to go, but that was it. So we went without any dessert. Sadly, the best tasting food of the night was the vegetarian pasta that I wasn't allowed to even finish. The clam chowder was awful - it was a pure overload of bacon, and not good tasting bacon (my husband thought it tasted like bacon bits). No wonder they discouraged us from sharing that one - they didn't want people to confer and realize they had the same opinion of how awful it was! I would most definitely not come back. OMG! I have been here a dozen times and this week was just awful. We were celebrating a birthday and don't go there for that. They make you BEG for the complimentary bread that came after we finished a bottle of champagne. The seating is horrifically cramped. There is no explanation about the oysters that we ordered. No help with selection of wine either for our second bottle. YET THEY SPENT LOADS OF TIME with the group next to us that ordered one fish and SHARED along with everything else among four. Our SERVER was terrible and she RUSHED US OUT. The manager who was deboning the single fish for the table next to us, STUCK his butt in my face so long that I could not eat. BTW, the bread is not like it used to be (greasy and hard), along with the service and food. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW THEY RUSHED US! OMG! Do not go to this place for an office outing and especially not a celebration or date. The desserts were terrible. It's seems to be pre box desserts now. Beautiful, spacious restaurant with excellent service and a meal that surpassed my expectations. The clam chowder was definitely a nod to the lobster pot pie at Bludorn, so delicious. The swordfish was spectacular and the desserts are a must try.
