Banana Lumpia - Filipino coworker gave it a 7.
    Akemi O.

Moved from Fort Street? Ordered banana lumpia for a coworkers bday. I've never seen it look like an egg roll before - usually the sides open and nice and crispy? Not my thing, so hard to judge, but the coworkers said was good. Workers polite enough. Funny though I order 15 lumpia, and I ask for napkins and he gave me 3. I may look like I can eat all by myself, or maybe share with 2 friends, but it was really for more people to share. Asked for more and got an exasperated look. Could do without the attitude, but at least the food is okay.

This is the best Filipino small restaurant in town! If you're in the mood for Filipino food or even desserts, they have the best banana lumpia!

    New location yay!

Happy that they are still in downtown! They just moved right across from their Corner location on Adams lane. They now have chairs and 3 tables for you to sit down and eat! Their menu and food still looks and tastes the same. Updated pics attached to my review...

Located on Front St x S Hotel St. Trying to find parking was a hassle but I finally found a spot. Also, I had a huge craving for some home cooking so I wasn't going to give up so easily. I ordered the pork adobo, pancit and pinakbet. The pork was very tender and the pinakbet had lots of flavor. The sotanghon noodles were moist and the veggies for the pancit were plentiful. Highly recommended trying the food @ Nayong Filipino and bring someone to place an order while you're driving around!

I loved everything I've ever tried from here. My go-to is a mini plate with pancit and pinakbet - their pinakbet is truly one of the best I've had. Their pork adobo and pork guisantes is also very good! But, the best thing from here hands down is their turon - I've never had banana lumpia so crispy, sweet, and with such a generous amount of banana and jackfruit. If you go here, do not leave without trying this! The service is always excellent - sweet family members with great attitudes!

2 choice plate pork adobo and pork guistance? sorry idk spell

I've passed by this place so many times at fort street and when I saw they had Filipino breakfast I had to come! It's been my latest obsession. Unfortunately I came too late but was happy to try their regular lunch plate. They didn't have garlic fried rice anymore too :( I got a 2 choice combo plate for 10.50 and chose the palabok as my carbs. The cashier asked if I wanted half half but said nah but good to know that's an option. The palabok was amazing since there were some pig skin pieces scattered throughout the noodles. Kind of regret not getting half half since the whole plate was so flavorful I needed rice as a chaser haha! Not a bad thing :P I chose pork adobo and pork guisantes as my two entrees. The cashier was super nice cause I kept asking about what each various dish was since it was laid out to see. He was super chill about it. The adobo and guisantes were stacked on I could not finish it! Maybe I need get one veggie instead of two porks cause it felt pretty heavy after x). I also added on banana lumpia as my dessert and damn that shit was good! It had the caramelization and brown sugar inside. They sell out of a lot of things quick since I also asked for their shanghai lumpia and their pork lumpia and they were out. The cashier also mentioned breakfast is usually done around 11am so I think I'll try go their as early as possible to get everything before they sell out! they take card so A+++!!

Mabissin Nakon? Why not try some Filipino food today? One of the benefits about working in downtown is the many food places they have here! I was working in downtown today, as I was helping a coworker do some checks on a machine, and upon finishing up the job, we decided to walk around the downtown business district to forge for some grindz. Upon walking around, we come up to a place called - "Nayong Filipino Restaurant". We moseyed on into the place, and I must say it was pretty crowded with a line. Upon waiting in line to place our order, I see they offered a (1 item) plate lunch with your choice of rice or pancit for $5.50. If you want a (2 item) plate lunch with rice or pancit, it is $7.50.........Wot a dealage yo! Some of the items on the wall menu - Pork Gisantes, Fried Bangus, Dinuguan, Pork Belly, Chicken Timola, Sinigang Pork, Tortang Talong, Afritada, Pinakbet, Pork Adobo, Mongo Beans, & Pancit. For my lunch today, I ordered a (2 item plate) with pancit, and I ended up choosing the Pork Adobo & Pinakbet. My coworker also took a (2 item plate) with rice, Mongo Beans, & Pinakbet. What can I say about the grub? It was puuuuuuuurty good! I enjoyed the pancit.........it kinda reminds me of the Chinese Singapore noodles. The Pork Adobo was delicious, and not too oily.......very nice flavor to it. As for the Pinakbet, I ordered this dish not knowing what I was getting (sorry I not Filipino), only to find out that this dish is a bitter melon kinda dish. I'm not a big fan of bitter melon, as Chinese folks also eat that kinda stuff. Now don't get me wrong.............. regardless on how the bitter melon is made, it's just something I normally wouldn't eat, as I don't like the bitterness taste of the bitter melon. But when I ate the Pinakbet at Nayong, I must say........... surprisingly it wasn't bad at all........what made it palatable for me was the gravy sauce that came with the dish, if it wasn't for the sauce, I'd probably couldn't eat it. This is a small Filipino fast food restaurant (on Fort Street Mall), with about 7 tables or so. The place is clean, has really good a/c (great on a hot day), and service is fast & friendly. I guess this place must be pretty popular, as all the tables were taken, and there was a line of people trying to order their food. You can tell if a place makes good Filipino food, because all the folks who were dining here today were Filipino, with the the exception of one token Chinaman (me) & my coworker who is Japanese. Lol! If ever I'm in the mood for Filipino food, I will be back!

For your authentic Filipino dish cravings, head over to Nayong Pilipino. A family owned and run restaurant that will surely hit the spot!

Chicken papaya and arroz caldo - so yummy!!
    Mel B.

When I'm craving chicken papaya, arroz caldo or simply a longonisa breakfast, this is my go-to place. They have other hot dishes out. And sometimes it changes but it's almost always the same... Comfort Filipino food. They never give me a rough time when all I want is just soup and veggies for the chicken papaya. They are located in DTHNL on fort street mall. They usually get super busy during 11 a-1p. Lines are usually long and then you're stuck with left overs that you probably wouldn't want to order. So I suggest going exactly at 11am. Food prices are pretty reasonable. Space is a bit compact with no more than 8 seating areas. A place to order, pick up & go. If you ever crave CHICKEN PAPAYA, this is the best place to have it.

Worth it & the foods are ohh soo umm uhmm GOOD! One of the best pork chop I've had Lunch - 11/04/19

Are they still in business? Where are they located now? No one answers listed phone#. Thanks

New location on corner of Adams Lane, right on Bishop street. In front of Union Mall. They haven't opened up yet, but their sign is there.

    Where's the new location?

They moved to 1150 Bishop St Honolulu, HI 96813. Only takeout. Still the same good food but less selection.

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

The chicken skin had a nice crunch to it and the meat was juicy (not super oily, but juicy.) The mashed potatoes and gravy weren't bad. They were not super fluffy but a little more on the dense side. (Nothing bad, just dense.) The gravy was somewhat runny with just the right amount of saltiness. The spaghetti was surprisingly good! It's been a few years since I've gone to a Jolly Bee and I had imagined the spaghetti to only be sweet and savory. It was actually pretty good! (Not in an Italian way though. It was a little spicy, which I loved! I wasn't expecting it to be spicy so it was a very pleasant surprise! It was a tad sweet...just the right amount! (There isn't a 3-piece combo on the menu, but the server was kind enough to accommodate my request for an extra piece of chicken.) It came with a container of gravy that made me wonder what it was for, immediately. Then I remembered all the commercials and YouTube videos where food reviewers either slathered their chicken with the gravy or they dunked it into the gravy. I was so hungry that I forgot for a few seconds that the gravy was for the chicken, thus I drank most of the gravy!! The dining area is constantly cleaned and draws a diverse crowd. Because it is at the beginning of downtown it does attract some homeless people as well. But, that's life in the big city, right? When I went to the restroom I found it amusing that a male Jollibee employee was changing his shirt. It seemed he was done for the day. Overall, it was a pleasant meal. I arrived around 5:40 PM, but getting into the parking lot took longer than expected because of the very long drive-thru line and limited parking. Once inside, I waited about 5 minutes at the counter before anyone acknowledged me. I was the only customer waiting inside. I even stood near the online pickup area for a while, hoping someone would ask if I needed help, but several employees walked by without acknowledging me. Two cashiers looked in my direction multiple times but continued their conversation instead of checking whether I was waiting for an order. I finally interrupted to let them know I was there for an online pickup and gave them my name. Unfortunately, there seemed to be confusion about my order. One employee pointed to another, who then pointed back to the first employee while continuing to prepare food. No one was able to tell me whether my order was ready. Thankfully, an employee wearing a different colored shirt (a manager I'm assuming) noticed I hadn't been helped. She immediately apologized, asked for my name, checked on my order, and informed the kitchen that more chicken needed to be prepared. Shortly after, another manager also stepped in, apologized, and helped get everything together. I finally left with my order at 6:09 PM, nearly 40 minutes after my scheduled pickup time. The food was fresh, delicious, and the restaurant itself was clean, which is why I'm giving 5 stars for the food and cleanliness. However, this isn't the first time I've had to wait an unusually long time just to be acknowledged for an online pickup. In the past, my food has at least been ready once someone finally helped me. This visit was different because not only was I ignored, but my order also wasn't ready. I understand that restaurants are fast-paced environments and that unexpected staffing shortages can happen if someone calls out sick. However, there appeared to be plenty of staff working during my visit. My concern wasn't the number of employees--it was the lack of communication, urgency, and teamwork. I believe additional customer service and workflow training could help employees become more productive and ensure that customers, especially those picking up online orders, are acknowledged promptly. A simple greeting such as, "We'll be right with you," or "Let me check on your order," would have made a significant difference. Good communication goes a long way and leaves customers feeling valued, even during busy times.
