This is my 2nd time going to this Nep Cafe branch. Me and my bf decided to have an early brunch on a Saturday at 930am. It wasn't that busy yet but after a few minutes, large group of people started showing up. We did have a reservation prior. The cafe is really nice, pretty big and spacious. All of the staff are really nice. We ordered 3 appetizers and 1 main dish to share. I love getting their cloud matcha latte, it has this sweet and salty earthy taste that I love. My bf got the marble coffee, he said it was pretty good as well. Then we had calamari, spicy wontons and THE DAO. Calamari was plentiful in serving, comes with a sauce and I really liked their sauce, it has citrusy taste. The spicy wontons are a crowd favorite as well for me. It definitely puts it on the top spot of spicy wontons I've tried from other spots. THE DAO (yes, it needed the caps lock on the name), this is my top appetizer from this cafe. The first time I tried it, I was craving it for a while. Some people might say it's a simple appetizer, but for me it's the taste and flavor that put it on the top spot. For the main dish we had Xo Chien, it's a crispy rice with pork floss, egg, chinese sausage. It's a delightful dish, and the flavor and texture is pretty nice as well. My bf loves this dish. Back Again... and Somehow This Fusion Spot Still Hits! Came here for breakfast with my girlfriend, and this is one of those spots I somehow end up visiting about once a year. Usually, when you revisit a restaurant after some time, you start noticing the quality slipping a little... but nope. This place has officially hit FOUR times in a row! Dry Bun Bo Hue -- $21 | 8.8/10 Although it says "dry," there's actually about 2 tablespoons of broth hiding at the bottom, and LET ME TELL YOU... that sauce is where the magic happens! It has this amazing sweet, spicy, slightly sour aroma that coats every noodle and pairs so well with the chopped beef. The noodles were cooked perfectly, too. I haven't had this since last June, so I was definitely a happy girl. Just squeeze a whole lemon over the top and BOOM--perfection! Squid & Mango Salad -- $16 | 8.5/10 So fresh and refreshing! The squid wasn't overly cooked or rubbery, and the mango had just the right amount of sweetness. Add in the peanuts, pickled veggies, herbs, and that sesame cracker for some crunch... and YES PLEASE! Such a fun combination of flavors and textures. Bun Ca -- $17 | 7/10 My girlfriend ordered this one, and I had to sneak a bite, of course. It's a fish noodle dish that was good, but I felt like it was missing that extra flavor element to really make it pop. Since this is a newer dish, I can definitely see them tweaking it and making it even better! Mango Sticky Rice -- $9 | 7.8/10 A little sweeter than my personal preference, but that purple sticky rice with the creamy sauce and fresh baby coconut?! DIVINE. The combination was seriously delicious--I just wish it had been slightly less sweet. And shoutout to Thomas, our waiter, who was so sweet and kind and took great care of us! What I love most is that I'm not even a huge fan of fusion food, yet somehow this place continues to impress me every single time I come back. Four visits later and they're still holding their own! Perfectly balanced and subtlely different fkaor flavor for the traditional OF. Entree was straight . Garlic Noodles with Shrimp (Think Crustacean Beverly Hills or AnaQ South Coast) yeah noodles are THAT DAMN GOOD. Prawns were charred and Huge! Flavor for days! My coworker had the Filet Mignon Banh Mi Chao. Steak was tender with black peppercorn sauce, sunny eggs, pork roll, pate, tomatoes all blended well with great flavor/spices! Desserts! OMG! Had the Mango Sticky Rice and the Banana Bread with charred bananas. This places takes traditional Vietnamese dishes, the comfort food type and flips them. I reserved a table for my friend and me through Open Table and it was easy to modify times and such. I changed times about two times, haha, but it worked out, thankfully! The restaurant was lively for a random weekday. Friendly staff from beginning to end. My friend ordered the shrimp fried rice. I got sticky rice and creme brûlée iced coffee along with the shrimp salad appetizer to try. Food came out relatively fast. The food presentation looked appealing. I have to say the shrimp salad was delicious, crunchy, cold, with robust flavor. I could eat that on my own! My friends really liked it too. I didn't try her fried rice, but she said it was tasty. My sticky rice was also good with traditional Vietnamese flavors was what I expected from xoi. Creme brûlée coffee was very decadent. I drank half and saved other half for the next day. Overall we had a lovely experience. What made it extra nice was the fact that they brought out a an ice cream dessert for my friend with a candle and everything! I've been here but it's been about a year since I've been back. I came for breakfast around 9:30am on a Thursday. There was no wait and plenty of parking. Our server was nice and attentive. The restaurant is modern and beautiful. I got the mango sticky rice matcha drink and the filet mignon banh mi chao. The drink was tasty. I think it tastes best if you mix the mango with the matcha. The food was nice and hot and the eggs were cooked to perfection. It's the perfect complement with the banh mi as you dip the egg yolk, the sauce with onions, and most importantly the pate. my cousin who lives in OC always raves about places from this restaurant group called Kei Concepts, so i decided to check out this spot on the way home from Newport Beach. we all got different things, like the five spice roasted chicken, pork belly wraps, salmon garlic noodles, and vietnamese shaken beef (bo luc lac). everyone loved everything and the price was pretty fair, after tip we all paid under 30 bucks for a pretty high quality meal. the red rice that came with the filet mignon and chicken had a really nice buttery taste, and the salad had a wide variety of veggies and even pickled banh mi veggies like daikon and carrot. the filet mignon was perfectly seasoned (not too salty) and came with a great dipping sauce. the chicken looked like it was charbroiled in a traditional vietnamese way, the skin was perfectly toasted on top and it looked juicy. had a pork wrap with lettuce, watermelon radish, thin flat vermicelli noodles, pickled carrot + daikon, herbs and it was so good. they perfectly cooked the pork belly so the skin was puffed up and crispy. it would be a good dish to share but i personally wouldn't order it by itself cuz too fatty for me lol. the salmon with garlic noodles was pretty bomb too. the way they cook the salmon, it comes out perfectly crisp kinda like they deep fried it all around so it has a crust. the fish was not fishy at all and tasted quite fresh and not salty. the garlic noodles were yummy and had a nice taste. the interior design here is iconic. fake trees inside tho, wish they were real but i understand that would make it more difficult lol. the price of the food here is quite fair so it was crowded even on a tuesday. low lighting and modern design made it look like it was a midcentury modern home interior or something. great for a date with friends or the boo. will surely come back again to try more, curious about the deconstructed banh mi.. read more

Ratings: Curry crab omelette 8/10: this was a solid dish, but honestly, I know it was an omelette, but it just taste like eggs basically just an omelette with a little bit of crab but not bad. Shrimp fried rice 9/10: with the lime sauce on the side this is delicious by itself not so much of a great dish, but with the sauce amazing. Always a pleasant experience dining at Nep Cafe. Overtime I do see that the restaurant had elevated every dish to a new level , more attention to detailed for each element on the plate. At first I was not used to the fusion flavor of their sister restaurant, Nep , however, had found the perfect balance between traditional vietnamese dishes ( like crispy pork with pickled carrot / daikon ) with adding some modern twist to it. I've gone here often in the past when I would visit SoCal. My family did a quick trip to SoCal this time around and we decided to eat here again. Unfortunately, I feel the quality is not as good as it was years ago. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely more expensive than before. Service is okay. The person tending our table was nice and gave us recommendations on what's good and what isn't. The place itself has plenty of seating so wait wasn't bad at all. I remember years ago when they first opened and took off, the wait was insane. There was no wait when I went with my family this time around so that was nice! For dessert, we got the sweet custard sticky rice, which came with a delicious pandan coconut sauce to dunk the rice in. Service: Our waiter was so nice, giving us recommendations when we'd give her two options and ask her which one we should choose. She also came to check on us often, and there was another waiter who came often to refill our water. Ambiance: The ambiance was so nice with a tree with fairy lights inside. It's savory, slightly sweet and packed with flavor. Seafood Thom Kha pasta - incredible Thai fusion. If you love Thom Kha soup, you need to try this pasta dish. The seafood is fresh and pasta was perfectly cooked. A unique flavor bomb that completely blew me away. The Dao - I was intrigued by the potato espuma. It's is delightful. Potato is smooth, airy and cloud like. Perfect pair with rich, slow -poached egg. Break the yolk into that velvety potato mixture creates the ultimate dip, if you're a fan of poached egg this is a must try. Well put together deconstructed Banh Mi. I liked the flavors and it was fairly heavy for breakfast. The bread had great texture as well. My only complaint was there was little to no sear on the filet at all. That would've taken the dish over the top. The noodles were solid but nothing crazy. The mango sticky rice matcha was very unique - never had anything like it. It wasn't super strong though. Price was very fair for the entire meal which makes the overall experience 5 stars. It had always been crazy busy whenever I drove by, so I finally stopped in during an off hour around 1:00 or 1:30 and was able to grab a seat pretty easily. Like most of the KEI spots, the place was clean, modern, and had a cool vibe without trying too hard. I asked the server what he recommended and went with the filet mignon banh mi chao, which is definitely one of the more expensive items on the menu. The dish came out sizzling with filet mignon, potatoes, egg, and a peppery gravy sauce. The flavor reminded me of an upgraded beef stew, kind of like something your mom would make if she suddenly became a chef and opened a trendy restaurant in Orange County. The sauce was flavorful and comforting, but the meat itself was a little gristly & chewy in parts, so I may not have gotten the best cuts that day. Overall, I thought it was good, just not one of those meals that completely blows you away. That said, I still enjoy the KEI Concepts restaurants because they always offer something a little different, and Vietnamese cuisine is just fun to explore. I'm really into bold flavors and unique spices, and while this dish leaned more toward comfort food than adventurous, I'd still come back and try more things. Funny enough, the waiter asked me which KEI restaurant is my favorite, and honestly I still can't pick one. They're all consistently solid, clean, and interesting in their own way. Nep Cafe was one of my first Kei Concepts restaurants that I truly enjoyed. I came to realize that I only tried it for breakfast, so in my recent visit, it was for dinner. While it was busy on a Sunday evening, my girlfriend and I were able to grab a seat right away. The first thing I noticed was that the table we were seated was still not clean and was sticky. After reviewing the menu, we decided to get items that were a bit different than what we tried in the past. I was craving some curry and decided to get the Curry Crab Omelet. My girlfriend got the Seafood Ceviche. The ceviche was pretty spicy and tasted refreshing. Unfortunately, when it came the curry dish, it was utterly disappointing. The dish comes with rice and I thought it would go well together. The omelette itself was very bland and didn't par well with the curry crab. Eventually, it was unbearable to continue eating the omelet, so I just ate the curry crab with rice. This experience itself confirms that I'd rather not come back for the dinner service. Nep has a special place in my heart, blending modernized brunch dishes with Vietnamese classics. It reminds me of myself in a way! I feel like I have raved to multiple friends about Nep and how unique and delicious it is. Nep is located across from Mile Square Regional Park and has ample parking. Every time I have been there, it has always been busy, even with its generous indoor and outdoor seating. I also appreciate how on top of it the servers always are and how they make sure you are well taken care of. Nep is known for their Banh Mi Chao, which is kind of like Bo Ne but with an "everything but the kitchen sink" vibe. I definitely recommend first-time visitors try this dish since it is really what makes them stand out. The tenderness of the beef mixes so well with the sauce, tomatoes, and pâté, while the banh mi acts as the perfect dipping vessel that ties everything together. Besides the Banh Mi Chao, there are so many other dishes that are equally mouthwatering, such as their Crab Toast (with a generous amount of crab and a creamy mouthfeel) and their new steamed egg dish with pork floss (a salty flavor balanced with custardy egg). The deconstructed bahn mi is also great and I love the freshly baked bread that they give you. If your kids love it as much as mine do, don't worry you can order more bread by itself! The only weird thing was that we made a reservation since we had a large party and they gave us a minimum spend per person and a time limit. Not sure if people just come and tie up a table for hours without ordering much but we were definitely there to eat and didn't have any trouble hitting that limit. This Nep location is gorgeous! I love the high ceilings, all the greenery and natural wood. We ordered the seafood ceviche. This was phenomenal! Loved this Thai twist to this dish and the Asian chips. Iconic. Loved the pork belly rice dish! So good with the pickled carrot/radish, fish sauce, mint greens for the perfect bite. Skin was super crispy. Shrimp Garlic noodles were good. Broccolini was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. The whole pieces of garlic were yummmm. Wow...this is my 2nd Nep Cafe experience/location and this was just as great as the 1st one. Let's gooooo... Party of 5 with reservations otherwise I don't see how you get a table. This place was packed! With that, the service never faltered. Our server was on point, super friendly and checked on us throughout our dinner visit. I loved how she asked if we wanted the dishes to come out in courses or whenever they were ready. Great stuff. The kitchen was great with getting out the dishes quickly. Chicken Wings - Savory and Delish. If your party is 5 like us, put in two orders. Beef Carpaccio - Fresh and yum. Garlic Noodles - They are know for this for a reason. So so good... Seafood Tom Kha Pasta - Creamy and tasty Pork Belly Wraps - Absolute Delish Shaken Beef Strawberry Cheesecake Parfait - Not too sweet, on point I completely understand why NEP Cafes are always packed when I visit my OC friends. Mother's day lunch at Nep was busier than a Grindr server during a Republican convention, but our table of 7 was already set and waiting for us. (By the way, I just love it when a reservation means RESERVATION. Because why do some places make me wait for a table. That I reserved. Weeks ago? Thank you, Nep, for doing better than that.) Service staff was warm and attentive, and I can only imagine the kind of system the kitchen has in place because food came out quickly and flawlessly. MATCHA COCONUT: 5/5. Ya'll they use the GOOD coconut water. SUGARCANE KUMQUAT: 5/5. Sugarcane by itself is fantastic, but the addition of kumquat really kicks up the refreshing factor. CALAMARI: 5/5. So good. The jalapenos were not playinggg. BROCCOLINI: 5/5. The sauce. The fried garlic. The freshness and crunch of the green. I wish all veggies could be done this well. CRAB TOAST: 5/5. I'll get to the crab in a second, but first THE TOAST??? The kind of toast all bread strives to be but can never quite become. The crab was super rich and velvety, and not salty at all. 5 SPICE CHICKEN: 5/5. The chicken here was perfectly roasted, and the sticky rice pairing is ELITE. TOM KHA PASTA: 5/5. Holy lemongrass, coconut, seafood trifecta. The flavors were more concentrated than Joe Jonas trying to parallel park in LA. GARLIC WINGS: 5/5. Had to order a second one. Fish sauce makes EVERYTHING better, argue with the wall. BUN BO HUE DRY NOODLES: 5/5. The beef belly was so silky. The sauce at the bottom was incredibly unctuous, which was nicely offset by the pile of fresh veggies. LEMONGRASS TOFU: 4/5. Lemongrass was absolutely the star of the show here. The tofu was on the salty side, but it did come with white rice. GARLIC NOODLES WITH FILET: 5/5. My first time liking garlic noodles. My first time NOT having to ask, "Where's the garlic?" It had the soft, roasted garlic flavor and aroma. The filet was softer than a man's ego. BANANA BREAD PUDDING: 5/5. The banana was PER. FECT. LY. caramelized. The crunch and subtle savory notes from the sesame cornflake, all combined with vanilla ice cream. Heaven. MANGO STICKY RICE: 5/5. My Asian mom who isn't big on desserts in general scraped up every remaining grain of the the pandan sticky rice and every last coconut strip. read more

No wait when we went. Everything came out really fast and food tasted amazing & fresh. David was our server and he was really nice and informative about the menu. He always gave us water refills without us even calling him and napkins. That was really nice. I plan on coming back to try other items! read more

Came for Saturday brunch, and the overall experience was great. Despite having a reservation and the table being ready, my party wasn't allowed to sit down until a majority of us were there. This was a bit inconvenient as it just made for a crowded waiting area, which isn't big at this location and spills out into the parking lot. Food-wise, I really enjoyed the seafood tom kha pasta and the curry crab omelet. I would come back for those. read more

"I should have come here sooner!" Stopped by for happy hour and was completely blown away. The food was great, the ambience was super pleasant, and everything was very reasonably priced. Here is what we tried: * Lemongrass Beer (7/10): Very refreshing! * Coconut Ube Beer (9/10): Incredible. I've never tasted umami in a beer before! * Shrimp Garlic Noodles (8.5/10): Creamy, garlicky, savory, and salty with shrimp grilled to perfection. * Banh Mi Chao (8/10): A pleasant surprise that brought back sweet memories of breakfast in Vietnam--packed with flavor. Went on their website and made reservations for 12:45pm on a Saturday. I made reservations on our drive there at 12:20. I mentioned celebrating a birthday and they left a cute little note on our table saying happy birthday. We quickly got our menus and water. Our waiter was great and he gave us a rundown of what foods were good. I ordered the creme brulee coffee and special my friend ordered lemongrass tofu and we split the squid mango salad. Everything came out in a timely manner. Food was excellent. The creme brulee coffee was like having a dessert and coffee and one. I'm dreaming about it as I write this. I would definitely come back as the location is easy to find, parking is readily available,decor was very nice, food tasty and service attentive and timely. read more
