I workout close by to this location...and I have to confess I actually live quite close as well and this is my first visit for the past two years I've been in this area. I will definitely be back however now that I know they serve breakfast and the most amazing coffee creation I've had. I walked in super hungry after a workout and was a bit caught off-guard by how serene and cozy the space was. I felt a little out of place as I saw several people in meetings, or working on their laptops. However, I was immediately greeted by the server behind the counter. I quickly saw that they had a whole breakfast menu board where you can build your own breakfast sandwich. I opted quickly for a croissant with sausage, egg, and avocado. I saw they had frozen coffee drinks and went for the caramel latte. The coffee drink and my croissant came out to be around $12 which was surprising for me since I was expecting more of a lower, fast breakfast spot price. I was still internally grumbling to myself when I tried the coffee drink and...suddenly, it was all worth it. The drink was not what I expected at all. I thought it would just be a cold latte, but instead, it was almost a slushie/soft serve texture. Basically, it tasted like I was drinking ice cream and it was amazing. My croissant also looked incredibly fresh with the egg and avocado looking fluffy and delicious. I decided it was definitely worth the $12 immediately. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other food options (the acai bowls, and various avocado toast offerings) but will be ordering the frozen coffee drinks for as long as I live in this area! read more

Solid coffee (love that they brew Counter Culture), but wasn't really impressed with their breakfast sandwich. I did the "build your own" breakfast sandwich and practically got all of the available toppings, but the sandwich just didn't have much flavor and seemed kind of pricey for what you get. Love coming to New World for a great cup of organic coffee in a nice quiet environment. Great place to meet a friend or have a little discussion with a small group. Sandwiches and soups and the great desserts are such a plus. The owner has done a great job focusing on the great counter culture local organic coffee. UPDATE- I only go to coffee shops that serve Counter Culture coffee in the Raleigh and Durham area. New world does the best job with the lattes. Way better than Sola and Jubala. The review by Jeff T is crazy because Starbucks has the worst coffee and dark roast means it's the worst beans. And we enjoy it more when the music is soft - that's a main reason we come here. I was not as big of a fan of the coffee and sweets as other reviewers, but the breakfast sandwiches were amazing! All of us had some version of egg, cheese, sausage, tomato, avocado and chipotle mayo on a croissant or bagel. The sandwiches were picture perfect, with a large fluffy egg, perfectly ripe avocado and tomato and a really good croissant. I could eat one of these every day if I lived nearby. The cookies are large -- at least 8 inches in diameter. The chocolate chip caught my eye, as it looked buttery and crispy, which is right up my alley. It was buttery, but lacked the rich brown sugar taste I prefer as well as salt. It was also too old, as some stale firmness had set in. It was actually fairly difficult to bite through. As mediocre as the chocolate chip cookie turned out to be, the almond butter cookies were even worse. We could not discern any flavoring at all. No butter, no almond... just lumps of floury dough. Even with the disappointment of the sweets, I would still go back for the amazing sandwiches. read more

I went in with a friend today and was VERY disappointed to learn after eating that they microwave steam (cook) their eggs on the egg sandwiches. With as health conscious as they appear to be with smoothies made with real fruit, cold brewed coffee, and various other offerings, etc, I would have hoped for a stove top or griddle cooked egg rather than microwaved! This is my go-to local coffee shop! Their espresso is delicious and I've never had an incorrect order from them. I also really appreciate that they have oat milk as a dairy-free alternative. I always order a quad oat milk latte and it's delicious. Their breakfast sandwiches and yogurt parfait are awesome, as well, and I love that they're customizable. It's super easy to order online for a group and it's a huge bonus that they deliver so that I don't have to use a third-party app! The staff is also incredibly sweet and friendly. My husband and I just had our Saturday "brunch" here, and we were impressed with the food. New World has a build your own sandwich option, which as a picky eater I love. I settled on a croissant with sausage and jelly (I know, I know) and we shared a blueberry muffin. Everything was really great. The muffin was full of blueberries and soft. The sandwich had real potential to be a greasy mess, but wasn't. The star for me, however, was the vanilla latte. I really love lattes. It wasn't the best latte I've ever had, but it was decent and wasn't stupid expensive. This little cafe is close to us, so we'll probably try different things here. I would recommend checking it out. We recently tried New World Coffee House and I could definitely see us coming here again in the future when we are looking for something that is more than your average coffee. I tried their 16 oz. regular latte. When ordering I was asked if I wanted the American version or the European version. Since I am not a regular coffee drinker (and caffeine typically gets me pretty wired), I ultimately decided that the European version was probably too much for me to handle, so I went with the American version. The latte was really good and it came out quickly, but next time I will probably add one of the flavorings to it. The location was very clean and way larger than I had thought it would be. There were plenty of tables and chairs. I think this would be a pretty good place to come if you wanted to study and get work done for an extended period of time - while treating yourself to some yummy coffee beverages. read more

Worth noting that this place is under relatively new management, since around August of last year I think. The new owner has done great things with the place, most importantly tearing out some of the walls and really opening the place up. I am a work-from-home guy and I am very happy that they have added extra tables and dumped some of the sofa chairs. Overall this is just a very warm, welcoming environment to work or have a nice meal with a friend. Most importantly: the coffee is about 10x better than it was before the switch. They make the best latte in Raleigh (and I've been to every coffee shop in town). Haven't tried the new food so I can't comment on that. I get a bagel every so often; it is pretty par for the course. One final note: Their free wi-fi is actually fast and usable. You other coffee shop workers out there know what I'm talking about. It was very busy when I walked in but the staff made sure to acknowledge me and let me know someone would be right with me - this may seem like something simple but it is surprising how frequently it doesn't happen in other places. I ordered a cold brew coffee which was incredibly strong and smooth. I also ordered an English muffin with bacon, egg, cheese and avocado. I used to live very close to New World and was a frequent visitor. I could find any excuse to pick up a peanut butter mocha and spend hours looking at random things on the internet. After a long break from New World (and moving about 25 minutes away) I went back with a friend last week. When we walked in I was immediately disappointed. New World has gotten a facelift, but it isn't a good one. There are no longer secluded little booths, and there is no longer privacy room for quiet studying. There are small tables, and one long community table. The peanut butter mocha tastes exactly the same way it did when I had it for my first time years ago but the vibe was completely different. When I lived by New World a couple of years ago, I absolutely loved the place. I still come here a lot because I really like the ambiance. I get a lot of work done sitting at one of the tables or I even just watch Netflix on a cozy chair. They have pretty good food (food food like sandwiches but legit yummy ones) for a coffee house as well as some pastries. If you like butter like I do, then get the almond butter cookies! 3 for $1. I usually always get tea here because I'm not sure what kind of coffee to try. And to be honest, despite how many times I've frequented this place, I don't think anyone has tried to help me make a decision about coffee. I've heard a lot about the owner Mike and how passionate he is about good coffee. Never met him, but I've definitely seem him around. New World is a chill place with good drinks/food. I haven't yet found a cafe that beats the atmosphere here, so New World is my go-to. read more

This place is total awesomeness in a coffee mug. I'm not even a big coffee drinker but this place may have converted me from my usual tea that i order. I did start out with Oolong tea which was served in a tea press enough for two large cups and then moved onto a mochachino that was rich, deep and dark but not sickeningly sweet. Before I knew it I had finished more than I meant to. The food is exceptional and really makes this coffee house stand out. I ordered a turkey with avocado with a side of chickpea salad (it actually comes with a side no extra charge) and finished every last bite. It was so neat and lovely without bits falling out everywhere . It was delicious and filling but still made me wish it would have gone on forever. The salad was full of freshly cut yellow and red peppers and chickpeas with a light marinade. They have an impressive selection of food items that I would come here just to eat. Not to mention they make cookies the size of your head here. (mocha chip, anyone)? We sat in the back on a couch and played Scattergories that the cafe had there. They also carry quite a few paperback books. I would have been cool if they had a few more games to play that would be so fun to kick back, enjoy some refreshments and enjoy a few rounds. The space runs pretty deep so there would be room for those who need quiet space and for those that want to socialize. One thing I did not see was a password for wifi. I didn't ask but would be nice to have it posted somewhere or given at the time of order. I don't live close to here but you can bet I'll return. read more

I am obviously in the minority here, but my experience at New World was not a good one. My friend and I decided to try it Monday evening. We walked in a few minutes before 7pm. We walked up to the counter and the young woman working asked us what we wanted to order. I stated that this was my first time here so I'm not sure yet. In response she said "Well we close at 8." Ok... thanks for pointing that out! I ordered an iced chai. It wasn't bad, it tasted just like the concentrate that you get at the store. At 8pm we promptly left when the young woman started walking back and forth throughout the store. We said goodbye to her on the way out and she grunted in acknowledgment. Oddly enough, my friend and I both ended up with horrible throbbing headaches within 15 minutes of leaving. It's probably just be a random ironic coincidence, but since neither of us are prone to headaches we assume it was something with our drinks. Long story short - if i'm going to be spending $4.00 on a drink at a coffee shop that has such great Yelp reviews, I would like to at least feel like i'm welcome in the place. read more

As a "frequent traveler," it's pretty easy to find a chain coffee house; so, I make a point to seek out the independent folks. I met Mike (the new owner) and ordered a Latte to stay. "Would you like a European-style latte?" Nice question, as in the past few months I've been in Italy, France and the UK. We walked in and felt like it was more about the "scene" and coziness (which it is) than the coffee but I could be wrong. $8 for two iced coffees with a ton of ice and 3 tiny almond cookies (which were yummy) was a bit much for me. I'm no coffee connoisseur but I just didn't like the cold pressed coffee. I find Caribou to be better tasting to be honest. Strange that they keep the milk at the register. The location seemed a bit neglected. Nothing is quite falling apart yet, but maintenance and cleaning have been avoided of late. Containers that hold the condiments look like they are a month or so late in being washed, bathroom floor doesn't look like it's been mopped... ever. Seems to be swept occasionally but there is a definite area where dirt is building up in the parts of the floor where foot traffic never goes. The guy working to fill orders is constantly busy and actively working on completing orders; however, the lady that seems to be there to help seems to be pretty ineffectual. She could be wiping tables or mopping floors in addition to picking up cups from the bin on occasion. The coffee was tasty but the table needed a wipe-down. I wiped it down myself. The sugar container looked like it hadn't been washed in a while and the sugar had caked around the spout which was again a sign that it had been neglected for about a month or so. The WiFi was good. No drops and seemed speedy enough. If they would just take a day to close and do a thorough cleaning of everything, this would be a fine place to stop every day. read more

This cafe is legit. First off the baristas give honor to the professional title. They truly know their coffee and how to be it in multiple fashions. Upon entering you find, sort of haphazardly placed, a bunch of coffee brewing paraphernalia which isn't advertised as 'for sale' but is. It looks like a garage sale for coffee stuff except this isn't your amateur neighbor who may or may not have legit goods for your score. I recently broke my manual burr grinder and have been considering an electric replacement. Well ask the right barista and ignorance is exiled from my choice of product. Apparently the type of burr within these units vary and THAT is the significance between different burr grinders! Counter Culture supplies most of their beans, if not all. The vaiations of beans is plentiful as well. I have to chose from 8 types... that's good and bad bit for the masses a surely great accommodation. Another impressive attribute to this cafe is the fact that pour overs come in 20 oz. if you so chose. Can't knock that. To accompany their coffee self made baked goods are provided. And a full sandwich, wrap, etc. Menu serves the hungry. Their curry chicken salad wrap was a fine choice. Wall hung art for sale and coffee things decorate the space which is composed of various types of seating found across the floor. Whether your trying to spread your study materials across the large community table or find a seat to sit and read a book, you'd be sure to find a likeable spot at New World Cafe. read more
