This place was such a surprise! We went for breakfast and I was blown away by those breakfast potatoes (I don't usually like breakfast potatoes). These were crunchy and delicious. The rest of the food was great too and our waitress was pretty much psychic. The diner theme is very old fashioned and cute. Can't wait to try their ice cream!!!

I have never been the biggest fan of Newport Creamery's ice cream; nevertheless, we stopped for an Awful Awful just to try it. I got a chocolate flavored one from the window. It was completely lacking flavor and loaded with ice chunks in the ice cream. I am not sure if they are aware, but ice cream is not actually supposed to have ice in it... This drink was dumped and I will keep with my original thoughts about Newport Creamery's ice cream.

Basic local ice cream parlour. They have breakfast in the morning only. Lunch, dinner and ice cream. Try the cheeseburger on toast, the Newport creamery way. Their soups are ok, but the specialize in sundaes and coffee cabinets. I came here and had a banana split. The others in my party had sundaes. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Everyone loved it. They probably make the best sundaes and they're a Rhode Island tradition too.

Came here for an original Chocolate Awful Awful and they are just that... AWFUL. Absolutely NO flavor whatsoever and the ice cream was very icy, you could actually chew the chunks of ice that came up through the straw! It was so gross I couldn't even drink 1/4 of it. Worst Awful Awful I have yet to have.

Newport Creamery has your basic comfort food items like grilled cheese, burgers, and ice cream, and milkshakes (called Awful Awfuls) for a very reasonable price. The interior is not fancy by any means, but if you've got a craving for a good milkshake, this is the place to get it. For my to-go order, I ordered the Waffled Spinach Pie Grilled Cheese (sauteed spinach, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, feta and American cheeses), which is supposed to be like their regular Spinach Pie Grilled Cheese, but with a garlic spread and pressed with a waffle iron. I think what I ended up receiving was the regular grilled cheese, which was disappointing as I'd heard great things about the waffled version. But it was definitely still tasty and the seasoned fries that we got with it were great. We also got the Oreo Awful Awful and that was delicious! The chunks of Oreo in it were perfect and it was basically drinkable ice cream.

Perfect portion, seasoned well with some spicy kick and a good crisp bottom as well, I will never forget about that burger. Got the guac on the side to eat with my chips which was a nice touch. We came in, was greeted by the hostess, she was very nice. She told us we could go in the back and have drinks and an app while we waited for our table. Great! A waitress came by, took our order for drinks and app. She was very nice and cheery. We hoped to get her as the waitress. So far, so good right? We were sat and our nachos came out just as we just settled in which was good. I was disappointed that expediter didn't bother to get us plates or recognize that we needed them. She left before I could say anything so I had to flag her down for them. She did get them quickly. For some reason, the waitresses were all over the back table of loud girls. It appeared they were showering them with attention going back and forth all different waitresses. The place is incredibly loud, it was tough to have a conversation with my girlfriend while we. We tried several times to make any sort of eye contact with the staff to let them know we needed drinks and failed. Eventually, we stood up, walked over and asked a waitress for some waters. A waitress came to the table and gave us waters and asked if we wanted drinks but let her know we had already put them in. She seemed annoyed by us, even though we didn't do anything other than tell her we already had drinks in and that we may order some other things soon. Nobody ever came by to check on us even though they came every 2 minutes to gab with the back table. My girlfriend and I didn't really like the nachos. She felt the chili was burnt and I thought it was too salty. We were still hungry and going to ask for entrees, but we were so annoyed with feeling neglected that we decided to go elsewhere. I asked for a box for my food and the waitress said she'd be back and went and talked with the other table again for what seemed like an eternity. At that point we just wanted to leave and eat somewhere else. When she came back after a while I was like... Oh! There you are! And she took my payment. I hate not leaving tips, but I was aggravated. We shouldn't have to get up and ask for what we need. This was upsetting.

We ordered the mini stuffies, the hummus plate, and the fried pickles. The mini stuffies were a highlight. Loaded with Mello's chouriço and packed with flavor, they're a solid little bite. My grandfather set the bar pretty high for me on stuffies, and these came close. They have a different profile than what I grew up with; a little less bready, more chouriço forward, and the clam flavor takes a back seat. Not necessarily a complaint, they were just different from what I'm used to and were genuinely tasty. The lemon aioli on top was also a nice touch. The fried pickles were exactly what you want them to be. Crispy, well fried, and the breading actually stayed put while you ate them, which is more than I can say for a lot of fried pickles. They came with the same lemon aioli as the stuffies, which worked just as well here. The hummus plate was a bit of a letdown. We've had it many times before and it used to be a standout. This time the hummus itself was thick and pretty flavorless, more like a dense chickpea paste than anything else. The accompaniments were nice though and consisted of heirloom carrots, cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, pickled cauliflower, carrot, and a pepperoncini, all served alongside some buttery round crackers that were like a Ritz cracker's more refined cousin. The veggies saved the plate, but the hummus needs to find its way back. I suppose it could have just been an off batch and won't prevent us from trying it again. Cocktails were great, as usual. I had the Anana with scotch. I love pineapple and this has muddled pineapple and basil, pineapple juice, cracked black pepper. It's my go-to here and it delivered again. My partner went adventurous and ordered the Jungle Booby, which is built around tequila blanco and mezcal with campari, pineapple, grapefruit, lime, orgeat, and an absinthe spritz. The flavors were genuinely good, but the smokiness from the mezcal was a bit much for her taste. She followed it up with a glass of rosé and had no complaints after that. The cocktail wasn't the problem, it just wasn't her style. One of our favorite spots in Warren for a quick nibble, for a good reason.

After selecting from the reasonably diverse beer menu, I ordered pesto calamari and others ordered street corn Brussels sprouts and a K-pop chicken sandwich. The sandwich was a big bun with a huge piece of fried chicken, gochu bang bang sauce, and a ginger sesame slaw. Not my sandwich, but I did sample a chunk of the chicken, which was beautifully seasoned and not over cooked. The Brussels sprouts were well seasoned and decorated with corn, avocado, queso, and a little too much quinoa for my taste. My pesto calamari was delicious. The calamari was cooked well and it was a great change from the tomato based dips that typically accompany calamari. The aioli worked very well with the addition of capers and a squeeze of lemon. Our friends had not been there previously, but it's definitely on their rotation now.

Metacom Kitchen is a cozy, intimate bistro, and if you haven't been, you're missing out. The atmosphere pulls you in immediately; warm, unhurried, with just the right amount of low lighting. Behind the bar you'll find a handsome Parisian bartender crafting some of the most thoughtful cocktails around. On this particular visit, that meant an extra dirty gin martini and a chai old fashioned. Both were perfect. My partner and I love to graze, rather than commit to one big entrée, when we can. My partner's family calls it bits and bobs, and that is what we did on this particular visit. We ordered the Duck Plate featuring duck three ways, some picked veggies, a fruit mustard, and grilled focaccia crostini. The Candy Beets & Salsify, which featured jewel-toned beet cubes scattered across what can only be described as a snow of barrel aged feta, roasted salsify (I had to look these up and apparently, they are somewhere between a parsnip and a carrot with an almost oyster like flavor when cooked), topped with some fresh green herbs. The dish was so pretty I almost didn't want to eat it. The Chickpea Fries are exactly what they sound like, and are somehow so much more; golden, crispy little logs served with an A1 aioli that you will not stop eating. The Coriander & Sea Salt Chicken Wings rounded things out; a pile of beautifully seasoned wings with caramelized onions and thyme, paired with a spicy buttermilk dipping sauce that had just the right amount of heat. Everything was absolutely delicious, which is honestly an understatement. We never save room for dessert and that was the plan this time too, until someone nearby ordered a crème brûlée and my partner's head spun around. That's her kryptonite. The version that night had Kahlua in it, which is usually not our thing; but the torched top was a beautiful lacquered brown, the custard underneath was silky, and wow, we were scraping the ramekin. Chef Allaire really knows his stuff. He creates small, decadent bites with ingredients you'd never think to pair, and somehow it all makes perfect sense on the plate. If you're feeling adventurous, make a reservation for Mystery Monday, where a three-course dinner is crafted for you on the spot. Pescatarians and other dietary preferences are accommodated if you let them know ahead of time. It fills up fast, so plan accordingly. I've always felt that a smaller menu leads to higher quality, and it's clear the kitchen is focused on doing each dish well. Hard to imagine other places keeping sixty menu items consistently good or fresh. Service remains reliable and welcoming. They have a daily menu, and I've had some friends suggest this place as their favorite restaurant. We parked blocks away due to the lack of adequate parking. Once we walked in, we were greeted with pleasant smiles from the staff. The menu was short, which we attributed to a focus on quality. We ordered a French onion dip and a littleneck entree as an app for the table. We were served with lukewarm water, neither cold nor hot. The apostle John might have been somewhat disappointed (Rev 3:16). The dip was decent but was somewhat lacking in great onion flavor. But nothing to complain about. The little necks were served in a small bowl and lacked a bit of salt. Rather pricey for $26, but this place charges $6 just for bread and butter, so maybe it's just inflation? Enter the entrees. They apparently were short on chicken legs so they asked to substitute chicken breast. Two of us got burgers. First the $20 burgers, which were served with an aioli with no offer of ketchup or other condiments. In short, both burgers were terrible. Far worse than we make at home. It's always a disappointment when you realize you're paying all this extra for food you can make better at home. The buns were shockingly flat, like someone smashed them by hand. Or in a McDonald's box. Come to think of it, the flavor was similar, though overall the hamburger was somewhat bitter, salty and lacked an appetizing flavor. Wow. We all agreed they were terrible. The fries were also burnt and over salted. My daughter quit on her $30 chicken, so I tried it. The sauce wasn't bad, and it was served with a decent brocollini. But the chicken was some of the driest I've had in a restaurant, with no crisp skin and a uniformly poor texture. No wonder no one finished their entrees. And I hate wasting food. So, as much as we would have wanted to give this place a great rating, we just won't be back. The service, although with a smile, was slow and terrible. Our candle burnt out in the middle of dinner. It was never relit. Our glasses were empty halfway through dinner. No refills on the tepid water. The entrees took an hour and a half before they came out (we were warned the chicken could take 30 min). Generally a very disappointing experience. Hard to explain the rave reviews but our Saturday dinner was a sad bust. The cold wet madeleines they provided in a doggie bag didn't do anything to help. Oh well. Hope y'all have a better experience if you go here.

We were having a lovely dinner in Warren and stopped into Bywater for a quick after-dinner drink. It was a bit cooler out but since they had no seats in the extremely limited bar area, we took the plunge and sat outside near their fire pits. They did not have many wines to choose from BTG which was disappointing. The one I had which was Cinsault was just ok. I had to dump out most of it since I did not enjoy it but that was my fault since sampling it I thought I liked it. My friend had the bartender make her a cocktail with grapefruit since they did not have pineapple. She was looking for a French martini but seemed to enjoy what they made her. My husband's espresso martini was very good I thought and light but could've used some bailey's. We already had dessert so we did not plan on anything else but I know I am interested in returning for dinner. The restaurant is very small inside but I loved the warm lights and decor. It was a very sexy and attractive vibe! If you are ever in Warren I highly recommend coming here for either drinks, dinner, or both. Dress warm if you plan on heading outside to sit near the fire...it does not give off that much heat! Cheers!
