This is the banh mi is the tastiest/best in Austin. I finished my classic combo banh mi in less than 5 minutes and wished for more. One is not enough. The baguette is nicely toasted and every bite has a crunch. Update: I always end up getting their Buy 5, Get 1 free banh mi deal! Pro tip: just ask for them to keep the veggies on the side and not toasted so you can save them for lunch or for a later day. Also recommended: guay tiew (order a baguette on the side and dip it in the soup) or better yet dip your banh mi in the soup. Another recommendation is their banh xeo with shrimp! Let me start off by saying- I love this place! People are nice and the food is good. We order to-go once a week. Why the three stars? The spice levels are never, ever (ever!) consistent. I get the crab fried rice usually. Started out with level 3 and it was a tiny bit too spicy to me so I worked my way down to level 1. However, level 1 is either not spicy AT ALL (I have to add chili oil at home) or spicier than the level 3 I originally tried. My husband, who is obsessed with spicy food, got some fried rice a while back that he couldn't even finish and had to toss because it was so spicy (at a level 1). What he could eat ended up making him sick. Anyway, love this place, truly! But please do better so we can continue to support you. read more

Singapore Noodles with Shrimp - love this dish, almost always eat this ! - but mad I don't eat all the other great dishes. Came here for dinner on a. Sunday and it was relatively empty, but filled up in no time. It's an order at the counter and get a number type establishment. The lady in the front is a no frills all business type, but knew her restaurant well. We got a fried rice, a buncha, and a banh mi. The fried rice was a huge portion and was spicy and delicious. The buncha also had a kick to it. The banh mi had a really solid bread but the pate taste was a little too strong for my liking, but the grilled pork in it was delicious. The cafe itself is cozy and cute and the owner is so kind! You can tell she puts her heart into her business. I tried two bahn mi: grilled pork and grilled chicken. Both meats had a wonderful marinade and the filling to bread ratio was spot on. The bread itself is baked to perfection (in house), with a nice crust. Each bahn mi came with a soup of choice so I got the egg drop. It was also delicious and seasoned just right. I also tried the house dumplings which did not have much flavor but they were wrapped beautifully and had a great texture. We ordered mango sticky rice for dessert, it was very comforting. And the owner gave us a sesame bread as a thank you (it was so good and full of toasted sesame flavor)! I definitely want to go back and try another bahn mi as well as cheese cake! read more

Wish I lived closer! All around great choice for service, taste, and value. The service is very kind and the lady taking my order was patient when I placed a large order that ended up needing several modifications. (She also brought the takeout bags to where we were sitting waiting!) The prices for the noodle dishes ($12 for a chicken/tofu pad Thai) are lower than I see at other Thai places around town, and they have $8 banh mi (with a buy 5 get 1 free deal) which is quite cheap for a meal nowadays with inflation. Portions are reasonable and flavors were good too. Will be back! read more

The best banh mi spot in Austin without question! I have been on a quest to find my go-to banh mi joint and NG Cafe does it perfectly. I always get their ribeye banh mi and their baguette is amazing. The beef is in meatball form and the sandwich also comes with carrots, cilantro, vietnamese mayo. They also serve dessert silken tofu which can be hard to find. Great texture and temporarily cured my homesickness. I want to try their mango sticky rice next. They recently renovated and the new interior is beautiful! It's a lot more open now and feels like a true cafe. The owners are super nice too. They even offered my boyfriend a cookie once while he was waiting for our pick-up order. read more

I've been to plenty of Thai restaurants and what I like about this place is that it's local, casual, and it's very quick. The flavors are good but not as authentic as I've had with other thai experiences but for the price vs taste, it's good value. Food should be based on taste and value, I feel NG offers that. All the flavors are unique and hit all the right notes salt sugar and tang. I like the chewy rice noodles, it needs to come with a slice of lime. The acid would help offset the salt. Great experience the only let down would be the crispy shrimp because it's not very crispy and for the price that I paid there was not enough shrimp that came with the dish, I will skip it next time. read more

Have seen so many food bloggers post about this place so I decided to check them out. This has been a family owned restaurant for many years. They have opened, sold and closed a few but Ng Cafe flourished and now serve the community of Round Rock. It's a nice cute little place. Nice wall decor on the wall. Only got a few dishes which included 3 banh mis, one hot and sour soup, and crispy egg noodle. The banh mi was super delicious. Im so used to eating it with a baguette but a lot of banh mi places only have the other Vietnamese baguette bread. Personally I like the traditional French baguette. You can actually taste the flavors vs being too overpowered by breading. Perfect meat ratio along a nice layer of pâté. The rib eye banh mi was good but I think it was not seasoned as well as the grilled pork. It was also just two pieces of meat. When I ordered the crispy noodles I thought I ordered the flat white pan noodles but I was wrong. It's the traditional noodle dish you get at Chinese wedding banquet. Usually comes with veggies, mushroom, chicken and shrimp and poured over the crispy egg noodle with a white/clear sauce. The dish was good but not my fav. The owner was very sweet, I didn't catch her name but while I was waiting for my food, I was given a glass of water and some mung bean stuffed baked goods which was super delicious. Overall, this place is really good, will definitely go back to try out other dishes as well as the Anthony Bourdain dish. It's for sure my go to spot now for banh mi!!! read more

Let me start of by saying that this place is phenomenal. The food and service is amazing. This is a small restaurant that has a quaint feel to it. If you are dining in, you have to walk up and order your food first. Right next to the cash register you can buy some of the baked goods that they have. The ube cheesecake is certainly something that you should buy if you are feeling like having something sweet. Now when it comes to the food, the Bahn Mi takes the cake. I tried the grilled pork and the ribeye bahn mi and both were absolutely amazing! The bread (that they make fresh) was the most delicious bread I have ever eaten. The only complaint I have about the ribeye bahn mi was that the patty was a bit too salty, however it was still delicious. The crab Rangoons had a great crunch but the filling was a bit too salty for my tastes. The basil fried rice with chicken is good but It wasn't noteworthy. All in all, this place has the best bahn mi that I have ever had. The spring rolls were also really good. Also if you dine in, you revive a complimentary soup! In the Austin area, this is a better option for quality bmt (banh mi thit). The owners are passionate about their food and you can tell once you chat with them. This used to be a Thai restaurant and for whatever reason the reviews can't be separated or removed. So to be clear, I'm reviewing the Vietnamese food. The bmt tastes more authentic with the pâté spread and the meats (Vietnamese cold cuts) are seasoned not bland like other places where they add soy sauce. The bread they use is not too doughy. I also love their cold sweet silken tofu with coconut milk. Think a much lighter coconut flavored flan. They also have the hot version with ginger syrup (đau hu nc đng). These are both desserts. I have not had a chance to try their Vietnamese entrees but will soon. read more

Their menu online is all the standard Thai stuff but the greatest secret is their not so secret in-store poster menu of Vietnamese dishes like Bun Cha Hanoi, Banh Xeo, Banh Mi Xui Mai Chung. I'm not a brunch person but I'm a Vietnamese Meatballs and Eggs person. Banh Mi Xiu Mai Chung is a breakfast plate that's going to put your IHOP to shame. Pork meatball is a umami sweet tomato sauce topped with a fried egg and a fresh baguette. No, really, NG Cafe bakes their baguette daily and it might be my favorite baguette in town. This is nothing like your Italian meatball in tomato sauce. The meat is soft, fluffy with textures of jicama and onions within that adds a natural sweetness up against the tomato sauce. The best part is stacking it all on top of such crisp yet airy bread. There are only a few places that serve Xui Mai, Texas Bakery and TruBoba included, but I prefer this place the best just because they serve the components separated so you get the freshest, crispiest baguette in every bite. Want it as a sandwich? You can order it like that too. Beyond breakfast, they have Banh Xeo which is always a joy. I've been coming to NF Cafe for years now but only this time did I have a conversation with the owners. Absolutely loved these dishes: the bun cha, grilled pork bahn mi (the baguette itself is so good), bun xeo, and their hot and sour + egg drop soup (one free small soup per entree). I also think the cold tofu dessert is awesome; incredibly sweet. Things I thought were good: mango cheesecake. Sesame bread. Next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely be back to try their other items; specifically their noodle soups, other bahn mis, and maybe even their American-Chinese food (looked and smelled pretty dam good ngl). I don't understand why this place has a tipping option ranging from 15%-25% when they literally do the absolute bare minimum service wise. I am 9 months pregnant and decided to give this place a shot because my coworker mentioned it's good. The owner lady at the front was very nice and patient with my questions, the food was alright, nothing too special. What bothered me the most was the fact that I have to get up and refill my own water when I tipped like $6. What was the tip for? If I had known that I would have to serve myself I would have tipped $0. I am pregnant asf. If I need anything I have to wave the staff down, she doesn't proactively see if tables need anything. They don't remove anything from the table, they just bring the food out, doesn't care if you need serving plates for appetizers or anything. I had to set dirty dishes on the table next to us so it can be taken away. When I asked for to-go boxes she points at the wall and says "it's right there" I almost lost my shit lol. I was like "bro I'm pregnant" she then said "I'll go get it" which is nice and all but it's like why tf am I prompted to tip 15-25% at all?! Picture this, you're with your S.O. and your fur baby. You're running errands and then the afternoon hunger hits. You're not hangry yet and neither are they but things could turn sideways real fast! As I'm pulling into Lowe's to pick up a GFCI outlet to replace in our house, Robynn G tells me she is starving. I laugh and run in real quick. With my new GFCI plug, I hop back in the car and Robynn mentions a place close by. I hop on Yelp and check out the reviews and then head to the menu. Hot damn! Everything sounds delicious! Either I'm really hungry or these guys are legit. Well, this is the part of the review that I wish I could tell you that NG Cafe is great. I can't do that. Not with a good conscience. They are not great. They are freakin' awesome! Boom. I ordered directly from the website. They are doing curbside pickup only. I placed the order, paid, and then drove down the street. Our order was ready in 10 minutes! Outstanding! I masked up, the nice gentleman unlocked the door and asked for my name, after my reply he handed me our order and we were off. Ten minutes later we were home enjoying our order. We ordered the poststickers which were lightly fried with a spicy ponzzu sauce, they were delicious. The baguette with shredded pork was next. It was made on their homemade bread with fresh carrots, jalapeños and a very tasty shredded pork. We also ordered their pad Thai with chicken at a 4 spicy. The Pad Thai was very flavorful! Our last entrée was the jalapeño beef stir fry. The sautéed onions and jalapeños in a black bean sauce were such a nice combination with the tender beef. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...mmmmmmm!!! Delightful Vietnamese and Thai offerings at this place. The Bahn Mî combo was highly recommended, so that's what my partner ordered. The bread is INCREDIBLE, the inside of the sandwich was very good, but missing Magi seasoning sauce. If you haven't had that, you don't know what you're missing. I had the Thai Thai shrimp with broccoli. It has a bit of a kick to it, which works for me. The portions are great and the spring rolls are very good. I've only tried the Bahn Mi's here but I can say that they are one of my fav places in atx for BM. The baguettes are made fresh in-house daily and you can definitely tell. The bread is super soft with just the right amount of crunch. I recently tried the Ribeye and I'm obsessed! The menu has a variety of differing items from Thai to Vietnamese to satisfy a spam of tastes. We tried a sampling of a few things: chicken Banh Mi, Red curry chicken and chicken drunken noodles. The dinners come with soup! Food showed up pretty quick too. We tried both egg drop and hot and sour. Both were tasty. The curry was rich in flavor and aromatic. The drunken noodles had a nice toothiness and the flavors kept me getting another forkful. So much for leftovers. The star was the bread on the Banh Mi. The crunch outside and the soft texture inside was ON POINT. The flavor was great and this was one of the best breads around Austin. I didn't know until I commented on it that it's made in house by the sweet woman at the counter. Perhaps she's the owner? She was sooo sweet and alll smiles. This definitely my favorite banh mi place in Austin or ever. Food, service, and environment is just on point. First of all, let's talk about how great their banh mis are. They actually make their bread from scratch. No buying frozen dough and then baking it or buying it from another bakery. We had a great talk with the owner too and she said the process takes 3 hours just to make the dough before putting it in the oven. That's amazing. I love the effort that is out behind the food we eat. They bake the baguettes every day! So great and fresh bread itself already says enough about the banh mi. They have many options as fillings for your banh mi. One thing to note is that they were actually NGBMT from back then. A very successful banh mi place but closed down due to various reasons, but the owner's passion for her food ignite her to out in the effort and start the restaurant again. Came back with a slightly different name but they still got the NG part! And they have Thai food options too. We came during dinner time and we got to have free soup!! Omg. The soup is so good that my friend and I just kept on refilling. Yes, it's unlimited, self-served soup!! They have 4-5 different kinds of soup and the one we opt for was Tom Kha and I'll probably be dreaming about it one of these nights. 10 minutes in, we already know that we'll be back to try other items. The owner chatted with us and gave us free samples of soft tofu with ginger syrup. So good, you guys. It's one of my favorite Asian desserts. They had other baked goods too.
