Hands down the best BBH ever! The broth is flavorful and well seasoned. It's spicy but not overpowering. I have always asked for the BBH without the blood and bone, and the staff has always accommodated and given me more of the beef slices (without me asking). This dish also comes with a generous amount of veggies. BBH is known to have many different types of veggies, and this place does not skimp. I love this place! They do BBH right! And unfortunately not many Vietnamese restaurants do. I always return when I'm craving BBH. read more

We came because of an old LA Times review and it did not disappoint. The nice server clocked us as newbies immediately and was so kind. We ordered the spicy beef noodle soup and she suggested we also get the mix noodle and rice cake sampler. I also ordered a lemon drink which was delicious and was perfect with the beef noodle soup. The food came out fast and hot. It was delicious! They had the usual side pho accompaniments of beans sprouts, cilantro but also had shiso leaves and another herbs. The beef noodle soup came with a block of blood ( so you aren't surprised), a pig's foot, lots of meat plus a good piece of fish cake. The services is lovely and the food was amazing. I saw this restaurant all through out my social media feed from so many Food bloggers I followed . I had booked marked it previously and always wanted to give this location a visit & try some of their authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Upon my recent visit I tried the Bun Bo hue & banh beo with their house nuoc tra . Let's just say this .. their Bun Bo hue by far was the very best I've had at any restaurant. This is the type of spicy beef noodle soup with the savory broth & thicker noodles and the different types of meats was absolutely amazing and it included pork blood . It was so flavorful with the perfect texture and side fresh herbs to compliment your noodle soup . Most restaurants just have lettuce & bean sprouts & lime & jalepeno which as we know you can't have BBH with banana flower .. hands down the best I've ever had !! Next dish was banh beo .. it was steamed rice flour with toppings & scallions & fried pork skin & side of sweet nuoc mam . I'm really glad I stopped by to enjoy some of my favorite Vietnamese dishes. I was informed that the family owned business has 2 locations . This spot is a must if you are in Oc. Overall, food was excellent and customer was warm & welcoming and ambience was fabulous . My family's go-to for Bún bò Huế. Their bánh bèo is also bomb. OPEN for dine-in (2/7/21). FOOD: The small bowls of bún bò huế ($10/each) is pretty filling; and the side of herbs have a good variety. Bánh bèo come in 10 mini plates, and have a generous amount of dried shrimp and fried pork skin. COVID-19: I felt pretty safe as their tables were spread apart and they have plastic (yet aesthetic lol) barriers in between. Employees wear masks. They don't check for temperature though. SERVICE: It was about a 20 minute wait for 3-4 parties ahead of us (we're a party of 3). Came here to pick up dinner on a Thursday night. Called ahead and ordered 2 large bun Bo hue, which is what they're known for. They said it will take 10 mins to be ready. As I got to the store it was about 620pm, 40mins until closing and they still had about 3 parties inside. The inside is pretty spacious. I headed to the counter to pick up my food and my total came out to about $30. I got home and my boyfriend and I started eating. He wasn't that hungry yet so we decided to just share one, which was enough to where you're not over filled. I love all the veggies they gave and how they were so fresh. The soup was delicious! It definitely has a kick to it but still so tasty with all the protein it had inside. I give this place a 4/5 because I think $15 for a bowl is pretty pricey compared to other bun Bo hue places and also the spice level was enjoyable until my nose started running. As a NYC native, I've heard many times that NYC Vietnamese food sucks compared to California's. I didn't really understand until I came to LA and proceeded to have 3 Vietnamese meals and left wanting more. A Vietnamese friend who spent a month in Irvine recommended 3 Vietnamese restaurants to me; this was one of them. This was my second Viet meal, though it was actually supposed to be our first after landing in LA on Christmas day. At 2pm, the line was insane and we were quoted at least an hour wait. No thanks. We ducked into a nearby restaurant where we also had a fantastic meal, but I digress. We decided to come back two days later at 10:30 AM, right at opening; although there was a short line because we were a little late, we didn't have to wait for our party of 2. I was surprised when I looked at the menu and saw that it was only one page, with quite a few repeating foods just in smaller sizes. Since my ex didn't lemongrass, we didn't order the bun bo hue, the most popular dish here. My friend recommended the mi quang instead, which I've never heard of, and the banh chen. (Spoiler alert) I came back again a year later because I loved this so much, and got the banh chen and BBH. + Banh chen (10/10) - This was absolutely AMAZING. I didn't know what to expect for these little delicate steamed rice cakes with some toppings and a sauce, but they were absolutely addicting. The contrast between the soft rice cake and the multi-textured toppings with the briny, flavorful sauce - wow. It was truly superb. I went and got it at other places and none of them compared. I came back a year later and it was exactly as amazing as I remembered. + Mi quang (6/10) - This was pretty good, but it was totally overshadowed by the banh chen for me. I think the meat/shrimp was a bit overcooked for me, so I was not as excited. The noodles were tasty though! Honestly don't remember much; I know I liked them but I preferred to eat more of the banh chen (which tbh are pretty filling cus they're carby). + BBH (10/10) - I honestly don't know if the one I had in Houston or this one was better; this was absolutely amazing. The broth is so light and flavorful at the same time, and even though I was completely stuffed at this point, I was totally thrilled to have even had several bites and spoonfuls of this dish. I would 100% recommend this (along with the banh chen of course). Overall, this place is a total gem and I so wish there were one in NYC; I'd go there all the time for the banh chen and BBH. read more

Came by during Super Bowl Sunday with my mom. This review is totally for the food and not the service because I don't expect much from authentic Vietnamese restaurants. We ordered the Bun Bo Hue, Banh Bot Loc Tran, and two Nem Chua just to try. I wasn't crazy about the Bun Bo and neither was my mom, but it was good and savory. I was just super craving it. The Banh Bot Loc Tran was super good with the sweet fish sauce. Loved the shrimp filling. I usually ask for a separate, empty bowl to soak my individual pieces with fish sauce! I had my food with a Soda Chanh (a mix of Perrier, sugar, and lime/lemon), which I totally recommend! Also, loved the fact that they have chili oil. That really makes a difference. It's not Bun Bo Hue without chili oil! Definitely recommend if you want to give Bun Bo Hue a try. Worth trying. There's more to Vietnamese food than Pho! read more

ngu binh is an OC classic for bun bo hue. i've been ordering here for years and the quality of the food still holds true. i wouldn't say it's the BEST place to get bun bo hue, but it is very authentic. they let you adjust spice levels and types of noodles (thin or thick). my only critique is that it's a little too oily, especially when you order take out. the banh beo is good. they give a lot of shrimp and the nuoc mam is perfect. i also ordered banh ram it and thought it was ok. it took a while to come out (which they told us beforehand, so that wasn't a problem). usually, i like my banh ram it to be really crispy at the bottom, but this place's banh ram it was very dough-y. a little too much dough for my liking. the shrimp inside was ok. good service! clean environment. very accomodating. wait can be long during peak lunch hours, and they have a paper waitlist that you can write your name down. restaurant has a lot of tables. read more

The bowl had plenty of meats which is good but w/o good broth, it's pointless. We could def taste the MSG . I mean if u eat instant bbh, it'd prob more flavorful. So never again I'd order this. Mi quang: After covid, they did cheap down on the toppings. You use to get your own separate broth but now they just added into the bowl. Noodles are now white not the yellow noodles anymore. The bun bo hue was very flavorful and perfect to eat on a cold day. It wasn't too spicy and had a great taste to it. The meat was pretty tender and had a good taste to it as well. Good amount of noodles served per dish. I thought the small size was also quite large so the portion is pretty generous The service is great as well.
