A restaurant/café in an area that has lots of enemies food. Display specializes in food from the Hue region of Vietnam. The menu is actually pretty simple, but not too many choices, which I really appreciate. There's definitely enough choices for a good variety, but not to overwhelm. The food overall is well done here and I enjoyed what I had. Ordered: small bowl of bun bo hue (small bowl) and banh it kep banh ram. I ordered the bun or noodles mild cause I'm sensitive to spice but this can be ordered spicy if you want the kick. The noodles were super comforting and delicious. The flavors were on point, and they did not skimp on the accoutrements like the shaved banana flower and herbs. The banh it kep banh ram are dumplings that have a glutinous rice dough with shrimp on top of a fried rice dough base served with a dipping sauce made from fish sauce. This results in a great mix of flavors and textures! I haven't eaten a lot of these, but I will say the servings of these are huge. I could barely finish one of these along with the small bowl of noodles. I took the rest to go. The service was super friendly. I technically could speak and it understand Vietnamese, but I had a couple issues talking to a few of the folks there. The person who took my order and help me spoke perfect English though. The place itself is pretty clean and there are a lot of tables. They are also seems to be pretty ample parking as this is located in a strip mall with surrounding a lot. Feels pretty standard for the area in terms of how the restaurants are set up. Definitely would come back to try some other other dishes, and especially if I was craving some of this region Viet food. Would love to try the mi quang and the banh beo here next time. Part of the reason of my high score is because it does give me feelings of nostalgia. I came in on a Sunday during noon time and there was no wait to be seated. I ordered #1 bun bo hue and asked for mild spice. The food came out pretty quick. The soup was flavorful with a hint of spice but wasn't too spicy for me. It also came with noodles, beef shank, pork bone, pork blood and veggies on the side that you can put in. A few Sundays ago, I hit Garden Grove with intent. I had - in my arsenal - an Eater LA article, written by Euno Lee, that puts the spotlight on 21 dishes from 21 restaurants in Little Saigon. I figured it would be easy enough to hit a couple spots between coffees and socializing at cafes. Except, I bungled the mission at the onset. There was a mix-up between the restaurants Ngu Ben and Binh Ngu. Too many "Bens" and too many "News," - Hey! It's all Vietnamese to me. I visited both these places and ordered the recommended dishes. The problem was that I ordered Ngu Ben's recommended dish at Binh Ngu and vice-versa. These similarly named establishments prepare the food of Hue in central Vietnam. I was meant to try the bun bo hue, a wheat noodle soup with ham hock, blood curd, thin slices of beef, a lemongrass and barnyard fragrance with the customary thicket of herbs to be added at the diner's discretion, at Binh Ngu. Instead, I ordered the bahn it kep banh ram. This is not an entry level rice dumpling. Euno Lee, of Eater LA, had intended for me to order the bahn it ram from Ngu Ben. The bahn it kep banh ram is delicious, but its texture may be something for even the most intrepid among us to have to overcome. From the arrival of this dish at my table until I took my last bite, I kept comparing its different properties to Western corollaries. The shiny white dome over a tan disk topped with orange pink shrimp dust bears a striking visual resemblance to eggs Benedict. My initial bite of the crisp fried part of the rice transported me to the campfire and roasting marshmallows. I know this is getting weird, but hear me out. The rice has a sweetness to it. Could this be the result of having been cooked in some variety coconut liquid? Were the rice cakes rolled in some dry sweet substance before frying? Or is the rice sweet from its own mere sugar? I do not know, but it is sweet. That sweetness, fried to a golden brown crisp, recalls the flavor of a marshmallow that was roasted by a patient camper. Probably some ASB type girl, who put in the time to get the perfect brown sear on her mallow, who didn't go for the instant immolation that most of us do. Eggs Benedict and S'mores?! Didn't I say that bahn it kep bahn ram is difficult for Westerners to dive in to? Then I go on and liken it to our most beloved comfort foods. It is the texture of the glutinous rice that challenges our world view. It is more glutinous than gluten itself. It stretches. It pulls. It never seems to diminish. To suffer another comparison, the crisp fried exterior giving way to a molten stretchy white interior transports the mind to the phenomena created by eating mozzarella sticks. But the glutinous rice interior would best mozzarella in an arm wrestling match any day of the week. It possesses a tensile strength that metallurgists are still trying to match. But delicious. It's a tasty dish, topped with green onion and fluffy shavings of dried shrimp. Stuffed with a meager few pieces of chili marinated pork and bay shrimp, it could definitely use more filling. Yet it remains an exciting dish. So many textures. So many flavors. And thanks to the mix up, I ate the most revelatory meal I've had since the first time I sat before a bowl of pho. read more

The large size makes sense for the price, but honestly it'd be much better if they did 6-8 smaller pieces. Flavor is good with the fish sauce but it's really hard to get the fish sauce on there since it a huge ball it just rolls right off. Loved it!! They have a very limited menu, but what my friend and I each chose was amazing!! I had the Bun Bo Hue and he had a Jackfruit Salad. The people there were concerned if I wanted everything in my soup including the pork blood and I said YES!! lol they were so nice and attentive- they thought the same thing with my friend- with some fermented fish paste- he loved it! My soup was deep and flavorful with a nice side of bean sprouts, banana flower and other greens- very refreshing. I had a peach tea and it was nice and sweet and it also had crystal boba. I haven't been here in years but my cousin was craving mi quang and banh bot loc so we ended up here. I ordered the bun bo hue and was less than thrilled. The broth lack flavor to me but I did appreciate the spice level. Overall 2.5/5 My cousin let me try some of her mi quang and it was much better than my BBH. It had rice noodles instead of egg noodles but that's what she prefers. It was more spicy than expected but she was really happy with it. Overall 4/5 We shared the banh bot loc and it was my favorite of the dishes. The nuc chum was spicy and lacked a little flavor. I added some fish sauce from the table to it and it was better. Overall 4.5/5 I would come back for the banh bot loc alone. Maybe I'll try the mi quang next time. I would definitely pass on the BBH though. read more

If you want food from central vietnam this is the spot to go to. They got dishes that other spots don't have. I would def go for the classic, the Bun Bo Hue. If you don't like it too spicy I would ask to remove the spice and there is Satay on the table for you to put as needed. I read good things about this place mostly through yelp, but also stumbled upon some suggestions through Reddit as well. People were claiming this spot to be a really solid restaurant for Bun Bo Hue. My wife and I decided to give this place a try for lunch. Plus, this place was in her bookmarks for awhile anyway. They have a small menu, presumably to focus on the things they do well. I ordered their #1 which was a large BBH. My wife ordered a small Mi Quang and a little sampler which consisted of banh bot loc and banh beo. Their BBH isn't bad by any means. I've had worse, but I have absolutely had better. My mom's is probably my favorite and the other spot I prefer is comparable to my mom's and is *much* better compared to here. The cha lua was really good though and there was a proportional amount of meat-to-noodles/soup ratio. I rarely (almost never) eat mi quang, typically I'll only have a few bites when my wife orders it. It was pretty good though. However, it was a bit too heavy on the peanuts. It felt like I was eating a goddamn Snickers with noodles towards the end of the bowl. The banh bot loc/banh beo was alright. I wish the banh beo had more shrimp stuff on it. The fish sauce was a little on the bland side. If it were a little punchier and more umami, it would have REALLY elevated this dish. Lunch was pretty average all around. Not a bad choice, but nothing memorable either. Also, *HEADS UP!* They *DO* accept debit, but their POS system does NOT give you the option to tip when you pay with a debit card, so have cash handy. read more

We also dined at their newer location in Fountain Valley recently (V-Land), which I've given a separate review for. Be prepared to possibly get your food (and its spiciness) before you even get your water or drink order. The lady who does the drinks makes several orders at a time. So I started choking on a chili flake and couldn't wave someone down fast enough. No one came by. Thank the Lord my daughter had a few swigs left of a water bottle or else the diners would've all freaked like I had Covid. The ban bot lot was very good and the bun Bo hue satisfied them craving. We drove an hour to try this spot based on recommendations from a food forum by Vietnamese people. I really was hoping their Banh It Ram was better than the last spot we tried but it was worse and I'm sad we ordered two portions because between the two of us we couldn't even finish one piece each. They are bigger but the sticky rice dough ratio is concerning, kind of reminded me of sushi rolls with mostly rice and no filling. I almost choked on the amount of dough I had to gobble down and swallow. The fried little pillow was extremely greasy and I avoided the heart attack by throwing it out. Their Banh Bot Loc was delicious although very, very chewy and required draining a quarter cup of oil from the take out box. Yikes! Nuoc mam was on point too. Mi Quang? Pho noodles? Hmm. We came here for lunch on Wednesday after hearing they had the best bun bo hue and there was a couple parties ahead of us. We waited for about 10-15 minutes before being seated. Service was quick and to the point. My boyfriend ordered a large bun bo hue and I got the banh beo chen. The bun bo hue here has a spicy broth and is filled with noodles, pork hock, pork blood, pork patties, and so many delicious goodies. The soup is super flavorful and really hits the spot despite the hot weather. The banh beo came in ten small dishes with a bowl of nuoc mam on the side. Topped with shrimp, green onions, crispy onions, and pork rinds, this is my absolute favorite dish. So flavorful and yummy. My quest to sample LA's 101 best. Next stop: Ngu Binh. And I love it. It's a no-frills, all-thrills, affordable-food joint where you just go for the food. Open early, hot and fresh all day. (1) Bun Bo Hue Dac Biet - delicious, so much depth to the broth. It has the traditional pork knuckles and cubes of blood. (5) Combo plate of Banh Bot Loc, Banh Beo va Banh Nam. Banh beo is the classic rice cake discs with shrimp and pork. Banh bot loc is little bits of shrimp and pork wrapped in chewy tapioca, and I need to just start ordering full plates of these. Banh Nam is more like a rice cake roll, long, flat squares full of shrimp. (20) Nem Chua makes a tasty little snack, a cold bit of fermented pork in between hot bites. Only order if you actually like gelatinous, fermented pork. (14) Mit Zuc Banh Trang is another cold option, a refreshing jack fruit salad. It's bland without the fish sauce dip, not their best dish. (18) Banh It Kep Banh Ram - A complex cloud of glutinous rice cake filled with pork and shrimp sits upon a crispy saturn-ring of the same fried rice cake, basically mochi on top of more mochi. It is glorious but it is so rich, and a single one of these will knock you out. I think their dessert that day was Banh Da Lon, a layered sticky rice cake, slightly gelatinous with a mildly sweet mung bean filling. Love the texture, love the lack of so much sugar. The food is so good here, the perfect blend and balance of sweet, sour, umami, and everything else. I love it and I would drive all the way down here (from LA!) just to do it again. read more

Usually I would ask to return in 5mins so I can read the menu but the pictures helped me decide faster. We placed our orders for my party of 4 and it was at our table in 5 mins. Hands down the best BBH ever! The broth is flavorful and well seasoned. It's spicy but not overpowering. I have always asked for the BBH without the blood and bone, and the staff has always accommodated and given me more of the beef slices (without me asking). This dish also comes with a generous amount of veggies. BBH is known to have many different types of veggies, and this place does not skimp. I love this place! They do BBH right!
