A disaster saved by an outstanding waitress... and cheaper than the last place! I made the reservation on Wednesday, with Niall himself. "I'll hold you the tables in the front... and I'll be there," he said. Yeah right. No hold, no tables, no Niall. I got there early enough to stake out some territory and order among the appetizers. Suffering from... er... drinker's stomach... I wanted something NOT fried. The only thing available was POT STICKERS (Gyoza in Japanese), a kind of dumpling, white and floppy, usually served with soy sauce... except here: Deep Fried Gyoza. Yep, they were FRIED. Like mini empenadas. Oh no! Can you say QUICK BATHROOM VISIT? The waitress was Adi, (pronounced Oddie). Who put up with our table shuffling as our group grew from one to sixteen. She was the best! Shhh! This place is cheap, open all hours, has acceptable basic chow AND serves a decent pint!!! Good for solo business traveller beer and dinner (my lot in life). Also, seems to attract sports fans, daters and regulars. Music is good... meaning that I have no clue who is playing but I like the beat :) 5 stars reserved for mind blowingly awesome places. Absolutely horrible. I have never experienced such a terrible experience with a server. Rude, abrasive and completely incompetent. We were told (more than once) that we were inconveniencing her just by being in the bar. She told us that we were to all order at once because she "didn't want to be running back and forth all night." This comment was made when we asked her to bring a glass of water whenever she got a chance. At one point, she asked us what else we needed because she wanted to watch the UFC fight that was on TV. When trying to settle the bill, she split it incorrectly, took money that was not intended to be her tip and charged every one of us more than we owed. Unacceptable. Never going back to this place. I was cursed off by an angry bartender (name Natzooo on the credit card receipt but I'm not sure if that's correct) after terrible service yielded a $1 tip. At about 12:30am on a Saturday with a mostly empty bar I ordered 3 scotch on the rocks for me and my two buddies. The bartender proceeded to have a really long conversation with a few (I assume) regulars at the end of the bar. After legit 15 minutes I finally got my drinks. We decided to have one and be done. I asked for the check. About 10 minutes later I still didn't have it. So I walk to the end of the bar and find the bartender housing a plate of fries. I just kinda threw my hands up as if what the heck ya know? She gets up and prints the check and runs the credit card. Except it was the wrong card! So again I have to go find her. She acted annoyed that I had to ask her to run my credit card and that she'd made a mistake. I gave her a $1 tip on a $33 bill and she literally came out from the behind the bar to say that I "was f'n rude!" as I was putting my coat on to leave. Unbelievable. read more

I'd been receiving invites from friends to join them for drinks and their holiday parties at Niall's for years, but could never go, nor could I understand why they always chose Niall's, until I finally found myself there last week. As the Irish say, great place, great food and great craic! Owner Niall is the consummate owner, and attended to us at and around the bar area alongside other pleasant and attentive barstaff with care and the kind of personality that makes your stay fun and memorable. Niall's a natural, great at what he does, popping in an out of conversations, with laughs and tales all the while topping you off, bringing shots and ensuring you have what you need. Everything our group ordered was delicious...Niall himself recommended a twist on what I'd ordered, ( thank you for my special black bean sliders - the most delicious vegetarian burgers I've ever had! ) and even still brought a dipping sauce and another amazing off-menu specialty I can't mention for fear I'll never see it again. Think truffles. All in all a GREAT spot for drinks and dinner, to meet old and new friends and I will not only be back, but recommending it! read more

Fabulous food, grand atmosphere, and the service was authentically Irish. Niall, our superhero for the evening, carried his Captain America shield (literally, a Captain America shield) out the door (assuming it was a Christmas gift?) as we enjoyed our fish and chips, Irish beef stew, Rosemary chargrilled chicken, and Chicken pot pie. We, a family of four with 15 and 12 year old boys, were immediately seated on Christmas Eve. We ALL LOVED OUR FOOD (kids included!) and our server was one of the friendliest young Irish students we have ever met. He had great beer recommendations, his service was personal but not too overattentive, and we enjoyed a few laughs during our hour and a half long dinner. Night on the town at Niall's! Service was great. The waitress was polite, quick, and had a wonderful smile that helped me forget how dead I feel inside. My friend and I split the chicken that was just a tad overcooked but was helped by the moist mashed potatoes underneath. Sarah loved mashed potatoes. Now my heart is the only thing mashed to a pulp. Food was a bit salty but that could have been my tears. 5/5 stars. read more

The only problem with Nialls is I can't give it more stars. It's deserves 10 stars and extra Emoji's. This is not a just a pub, it's a Haven, a place to meet up with friends and crush some cold ones. If only the Samuel Adams Brewing Company would come to their senses and stop their usury. But Niall will not be intimidated by threats and thuggery. Niall can also be quite entertaining when he comes out of his shell. He's quite shy but an excellent DJ. Love the Green Leisure Suit! Your garden variety "we're an Irish pub" kind of joint with TVs and loud music. Sadly, out of Guinness AND Murphy's Stout on our visit. Unhappy face. However, saved by Goose Island Honker's Ale on tap served up by a perfectly pleasant Irish waitress. Sort of a burgers and wings kind of joint. Noisy, neighborhood bar, but wasn't exactly the Irish pub we were on the hunt for. Still, a pleasant enough place I'd gladly stop if when the need to hydrate calls. read more

Great wee place to come and have a couple of beers (and maybe a Jameson or two). I always come here when am in NYC. The food is surprisingly great for what one would call a "pub". I have been coming here fairly regularly for over a year now, and just love the place. People who have moved on from my employer always want to meet up a Niall's when we get together for lunch or after work drinks, because it really is like coming home. Niall, Abby, Morgan and the lot always welcome you warmly and make you wonder why you ever left. Food is good to very good, and the specials are often superb (braised short ribs, I'm looking at you). We've used the back area for work functions a few times, and it's always great and we get a lot for our budget. read more

I'm pretty much here every other Saturday. It's a good bar that my friends and I go to grab a lunch and a drink. The food really is good-- my favorite is the black bean burger. It's so good, I make other people order it and then they like it. I can't remember if I ever got the regular burger. The fries are also very good. There's also quite a few beers on tap. And the staff is really friendly and they really get to know your name, especially since we've been coming here for a really long time. It's a great bar in Midtown. read more

Is there any other kind of "average guy" bar in midtown that isn't irish? Irish bars in midtown are like chain restaurants in Indy, totally cookie cutter. Walk up five steps this time, bar with 20-25 stools on the left and stools along the wall on the right. A couple lower tables in the front overlooking 52nd. Good amount of TVs. Not easy to get a drink (sitting at the bar) when I've been there, but I don't think thats the norm. Friendly barkeeps and the usual crowd. Haven't ate here, but doubt it will be any different than the other 10 irish bars within 3 blks. Good music. read more

You cant beat Niall's as a spot to grab a drink after work. What makes this place are the staff - Darren, Abbey et al are great amazing people that take great care of all their customers, regulars or not. The food's actually very good as well - Mac & cheese is one of my favorites. But like i said, its the people that make this place....go and enjoy. read more

Popped in for a very late night meal with my son. Kitchen was open late, until midnight. Although they were packed in the bar area for a Christmas party, they accommodated us nicely in the dining area in back. Service was very friendly and quick. We both got burgers and they were top notch, especially mine with bacon and blue cheese. Many times, restaurants use a low grade blue cheese with little flavor but not here. It was excellent. Weak beer selection and the .70 cent wings are miniature sized and mostly greasy borderline stale skin. It's a real nice setup with plenty of TV's for football sundays, and the bartender was very accomodating even as he ran the whole place himself...Some hi def TV's..It's considered a Bills bar and if not for that I wouldn't consider going again read more

Stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn next door and came to Niall's for a late dinner at the recommendation of the hotel staff. Best Guinness I've had outside of Ireland. The bartender said they brought in their tap system from Ireland, so maybe that's the trick? Regardless, great beer. Also got the open faced reuben and it was very tasty, though a bit rich and heavy on the cheese. TVs are everywhere with a great view of whatever big game is on. Vibe is low key and friendly. My wife and I were just looking for a good burger...we have eaten at several upper end restaurants over the last few days and we just wanted to have a burger...close to our hotel and I found Niall's on Yelp...got there around 9pm and it was just us, bartenders Adrian and Sequoia and a couple of locals...burgers hit the spot! We were going next door to listen to some jazz but Adrian told us thaey would have Irish music! So we stayed! And so glad we did! Music was awesome and the locals started coming in and more musicians came and joined in. Loved this place! Food met our expectations but it was the music and the bartenders Adrian and Sequoia and the friendly locals who made this place special! We found this place because we were staying in midtown for the weekend. I ordered a small size of the truffle Mac and cheese bc I wasn't very hungry (I love when restaurants will accommodate this).
