Stopped by Nick the Greek for a casual lunch and was pleasantly surprised. It's located in a strip mall off La Brea and Sunset, so parking can be a bit limited depending on when you go. I ordered the beef/lamb gyro, and my date had the chicken souvlaki. Both portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. I especially loved that they put fries inside the gyro--it added a great texture and made it even more filling. The ingredients were fresh, and the meat was flavorful without being overly greasy. My only minor disappointment was that they serve Pepsi products. I'm a Diet Coke girl, so that's always a little bit of a letdown, but it certainly wouldn't stop me from coming back. It's tucked away on a corner surrounded by a bunch of fast food places, including Burger King, but don't let the location fool you. It was the only place open when I rolled in around 11and I'm glad it was. I went with the chicken gyro and it came absolutely loaded. The pita was warm and soft with just a little bit of char, stuffed with juicy seasoned chicken, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and plenty of creamy tzatziki sauce. They even tucked fries inside the gyro, which gave it an extra layer of flavor and texture that worked really well. The chicken was tender and well seasoned, the vegetables tasted fresh, and every bite had plenty of meat. It was messy in the best way possible and definitely filling. If you're driving by and looking for something different from the usual burger or sandwich, this is a great choice. I was craving Mediterranean cuisine one day and stopped by at this wonderful restaurant! I ordered the Gyro Bowl with beef and lamb, which were the necessary protein items that came with basmati rice, onions, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, English cucumbers, feta and red wine vinaigrette topped with tzatziki and spicy yogurt. As you can see from one of the photos attached, this bowl had a variety of contents and flavors. It truly was a sensational experience and I am glad I got to take some home, which allowed me to have several meals from what I got throughout the week! I also got the Baklava, which included walnuts, syrup, and Greek phyllo. It had the perfect crunch and sweet goodness that a dessert could have after a hearty meal. Watched the employee helping me go open the bathroom door for another customer and then come back and grab a cup for my frozen yogurt order. Two cups were stuck together so he put his fingers literally all the way inside the top cup to separate them..and then proceeded to fill that cup with froyo. Solid take out experience here this evening. We saw a BOGO on Uber eats and got 2 chicken gryros. Portion was good and it was packaged well. Finding something fresh, healthy, and tasty, is not an easy task! This is my go-to spot now for healthier food. They gyro bowls taste freaking great and are very satisfying. It's also very hard to find good Greek food in LA. It's usually dry and flavorless. I was born in Greece, so I know the food well. I would call this more "California" Greek food. It doesn't quite taste like the homeland but that's not an insult. It's just different. It's like a hybrid of healthy Californian cuisine and Greek. The only thing that's so-so are the chicken skewers. I think the pieces are too small to not overcook while grilling. It's probably fine in the restaurant. But for delivery, it's not what I would recommend. And the seasoning/marinade could be improved. I would still give them close to 5 stars overall. read more

The food is not good, bland and unoriginal. They took one of the best cuisines out there to commercialize but didnt put any effort in making it taste great consistently. They get it in these big white tubs not homemade of course and so its made in a factory and idk who taste tests it but its just not good. My chicken gyro took too long and worst of all, they drenched it in honey mustard! I get adding a bit of of sauce, but my gyro really was soaking in that sauce. The disappointment was unreal. Overall I wouldn't recommend the chicken gyro. I've been to other Nick the Greek locations (Fullerton and Yorba Linda) and ordered the beef/lamb gyro which tastes significantly better. The grand opening of Nick the Greek premiered in Westwood during the very start of the pandemic. Poor timing. Or was it? I was one of their first customers at the Westwood premier. I ordered the gyro pita with fries. Suffice to say, I wasn't terribly impressed . Indeed Los Angeles struggles to get Greek good right. I always consider the negative reviews I've wrote within a year as a potential opportunity to try something else on the menu that might change my mind down the line. Well my fancy was tickled at the sunset location. I didn't order a plate , nor a pita sandwich. Instead, I ordered their protein bowls. Protein bowl comes with your choice of protein (I opted for lamb gyro) rice, veggies yogurt sauce. Impressively , the whole meal is like $400-$500 calories with tzatziki sauce. Flavor is not super great, but if you're looking for a more wholesome crave outing, this would be a good choice. Fourteen dollars is okay. I like dousing the bowl with a lot of yogurt sauce.
