Nick's was at the top of our list even though it was unclear how to make reservations from reading their website and that there were so many other highly rated locavore restaurants in Providence. The menu was diverse enough to satisfy our dietary restrictions and still feel like we had choices. The food came out at the right pace, giving us time to enjoy conversation but not so much time as to wonder where the food was. Everything was flavorful, especially the house made pickles (including cranberries and watermelon rind) and chicken. One strange note is that the napkins felt like something I would get at a summer picnic or kid's birthday party, not at a fine dining restaurant; while minor, such dissonance with the rest of the dining experience stood out. Nick's on Broadway is sooooo good. We've been going here for years for brunch. Everything is aesthetically pleasing, tastefully pleasing, and the coffee mmmmm. The coffee is darker than any other café I know. I don't drink DD's colored water. This coffee is actually worth drinking. BTW they have non dairy milk if you want. Try the OJ too. I usually stay away from the point Judith fish which is a little too fishy for me. Their eggs Benedict are awesome. Be prepared to wait in line sometimes up to 1.5 hours. Disappointed with the service. We were ignored at the bar. Our meal took forever to arrive. Portions were pitifully small. And food was meh.

Though the food is always great and I enjoyed going here my latest experience wasn't that good. And it all had to do with our server. The waitress that we had felt like we were a bother and didn't want us to be there. We went for brunch at 10 AM on a Sunday and waited about half an hour for two of us to be seated. We ended up at the bar, staring into the open kitchen and mesmerized by both the grace of the kitchen staff and the parade of attractive foods. The massively thick slices of brioche French toast being doused with a warm apple compote were especially appealing. I ended up ordering a prosciutto, egg, provolone, and tomato sandwich on grilled sourdough that had been brushed with pesto (their "rustic bread"). The menu is extensive - I would have been happy enough ordering only from the specials menu - there was a special muffin, frittata, benedict, polenta with eggs, brisket... Brisket! And of course the aforementioned compote to add to French toast or pancakes. The menu is on their website, so you can judge the selection and prices for yourself. I heartily approve. Food was great. Only reason for three star rating is because the place was so busy we ended up eating at the bar. That being said my husband, me and a friend went for Sunday brunch. I had the salmon platter and ginger muffin. Both were splendid. The service was quick and attentive. Finally got to check out Nick's on Broadway when my boyfriend took me for dinner. One word: amazing. Superb food, but also superb service. Our server immediately asked about dietary restrictions (we had one) and then worked with the kitchen to retool my boyfriend's dishes so that all dairy was removed. And they did it in a really creative way that made it so both of our meals were fantastic. Also made us a special non-dairy dessert that was not listed on the menu. It's very expensive but for a special occasion this is probably my favorite restaurant in Providence now. read more

Went for lunch at 12:30 on a Friday afternoon, only two in my party. We ate on the bar side at a high top. I ordered the eggs benedict, and my lunch mate ordered an omelet. The food was incredible. This may be one of the best benedicts I've ever had - mostly because the hollondaise sauce is incredible and instead of an english muffin it come served on a buttermilk biscuit. So good! Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that we waited 45 minutes for our food, this would be a 5 star review. The place was not busy, and it seemed like our order may have been forgotten. I absolutely LOVE brunch at Nick's. I always get the grilled muffin of the day which is served deliciously warm with a little fruit topping. You really can't go wrong with whatever you choose. The weekends are busy but you can grab a drink while you wait and it typically isn't as long as it looks. The staff is super friendly and it is always an enjoyable experience. I spent four weeks in Providence eating my way through the city, and Nick's served two of my favorite meals while in town. I first went for brunch (solo) and sat at the back counter. Let me say that this is a great place to go if you're dining alone; the counter faces into the kitchen and allows you to watch the chefs. As far as the food goes - I had eggs benedict with pulled pork which was soooo delicious. Top it off with some of their homemade hot sauce and it is just near perfect. Tonight I went with a large group and everyone was blown away by their meal. From the apps to the entrees to the dessert- everything was incredible. The charcuterie plate should not be missed, nor the mussels. For entrees I recommend the swordfish or the beef - both were the perfect combination of sweet, tart, and savory. We shared three desserts with the egg-nog pudding and the beet cake being standout favorites. I've eaten at a lot of great restaurants while here including Gracie's and Broadway bistro and Nick's beat them all! read more

We've been to Nicks a few times for brunch and a few times for dinner and my vote is to go there for dinner- the food is delicious and they are not as busy as they are for brunch so you don't feel so rushed and the restaurant isn't as loud. We've done the tasting menu there a couple times and the chef is completely flexible to your dietary restrictions which is refreshing. The one bad thing I've found is their brunches are so loud you can't hear the person sitting across the table from you which is a bummer because you can't talk about how good the food is. :) read more

I've been to nicks maybe 10+ times over the last 3 years....always had good things to say, until today. We went in for breakfast and the bartender sat us at a high top by the bar. After ordering, we waited over a half hour for our food. Mind you I was there a week previously and ordered the exact same entrees and was on and out in under an hour. The entire time I watched our server chat with co workers, full water and generally mosey around while we were never checked on and I was never offered a refill of coffee. I tend to be very lenient with servers as I was one for several years and I know the struggle. But she was awful. After our food was brought out by someone else I asked for more coffee, and that was the last cup I recieved. We were never asked how our food was, and instead just brought the check. Let me again say this hasn't been my typical experience here, far from it. But I will definetly not be back soon. It was my boyfriends first time there and he never wants to go back. We visited this place on a trip to Providence and loved it so much that we drove an hour and a half to come back a second time. This place is very popular, so be prepared for a wait, if you come during a peak time. On our first visit, we went during Sunday brunch and waited about an hour. Nick's breakfast never disappoints! I've been a loyal fan ever since the lower Broadway days and they are even greater than ever! I'm always impressed with the quick and friendly service, even on the super busy weekends. Not to mention the delicious food I frequently enjoy. It's worth waiting the half hour or more. The granola, fruit and yogurt parfait includes the freshest, hard to find mid-winter berries and other fresh fruit, crunchy granola and wonderful (local?) yogurt. Its always a favorite. Pancakes are nice and fluffy served with real maple syrup (a must) then finished with a sprinkle of powdered sugar and a small amount of fruit. Lovely! The omelet options are vast with always fresh veggies, cheeses, meats and even fresh herbs! Yum! The only thing I'm missing is the seven grain bread they carried for years. I understand they are now making their own breads. Good for them, but I miss the grainy, healthy option. read more
