The wait is LONG! We arrived on a Sunday around noon.... We waited for over an hour... It was well Worth it!!!!!!!!! The open kitchen gives you a whole different experience! Watching the chefs put that much care in your food makes the experience! We had eggs benedict - my bf said it was amazing The home fries which had sweet potato was amazing.. I've been to Nicks twice for brunch and will be back many more times. Fresh ingredients and well conceived dishes make for a what must be the best brunch experience in provi (on broadway, no less). My two meals have been the two eggs over black beans with grilled tortilla, tomato salsa and avocado cilantro creme and the two poached eggs over seasonal fall vegetables with grilled bread. Both meals have been made with high quality ingredients and prepared with care. The only thing that detracts from nicks is the service/wait. Service is consistently slow, and you have to be prepared to wait for up to an hour on weekends between 11 and 2. Kind of annoying. It appears as though the space is just too small for the demand. Most importantly, though the food is delicious and I am happy to recommend this spot to anyone looking for a good place to eat on a saturday or sunday. I have also sampled the eggs benedict (with bacon) and the poached eggs over polenta with spinach and parm cheese, both of which were very good brunch dishes. I live right across the road from Nick's, so it has become a place that I have frequented since moving here. The place is always packed, which is a direct reflection of the restaraunt. This restaraunt is great for breakfast. They close from 3-5 to prepare for dinner, just an FYI. Also, they recently opened a full bar area. The service is reliable and friendly, though not always the quickest. Though I am an extremely picky eater, I can always find something on the menu to satisfy my craving. I love the pancakes and the french toast. The home fries are great, and include sweet potatoes as well. Friends of mine love the omelets; and the specials are always good. Definately a local gem. I love the fact that they support local growers/farmers and keep a seasonal and ever-changing menu. It's also fun to watch the cooking going on in the open kitchen, it makes your wait go by quicker if you have to stand on line for a table. A must try for sure. read more

Was so excited to visit Nick's as all I wanted during this pandemic and our RI vacation was to have some darn brunch (it's the small things in life). Arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation, and were told to stand outside and the staff would come and get us. We stood outside freezing; no one came to get us. We went back inside when it was time, and the same two girls in the front didn't even acknowledge our presence (like hello, you saw us literally five minutes ago) until we spoke up. Super unprofessional. After we were seated, luckily got a super nice and accommodating server, but the food took ~45 minutes to come after we ordered! By that time, our hot coffees were cold and we were seated near the outside patio and were freezing, so it was annoying to drink cold coffee. I ordered the pancakes which were filling but mediocre and the peaches were a little too firm to cut through and for my liking. We also got an order of oysters which was pretty good. The one main thing that rubbed us the wrong way was the amount of plastic this place uses! Apparently the menu is printed daily with only the date changed but the food items stay the same (which makes no sense and only wastes paper). My coffee came in a paper cup, water came in a plastic cup, and our milk and maple syrup came in small plastic containers. What the heck. Not only a complete planet ruiner but not really the vibe I expected from a sit-down restaurant. I honestly would not come here again. Too many frustrating aspects. read more

Went to nicks for date night a couple weeks back and we weren't disappointed with any aspect of the service. The food was delicious and simple. For the adventurous diner their charcuterie has some interesting offerings that some will like and others won't. The menu draws directly from the seasonal ingredients available locally here in New England, and the kitchens choices of flavor and texture combinations are thoughtful and inspired. The one and only drawback to this beautiful restaurant is the seating. We came in a busy Saturday night without a reservation (get one), and sat in the bar area (which is not reserved, and it's right at the front door. I've lost all confidence to this place being able to please us, not from a menu perspective (though this last time the crup filet was very lack luster) but more so the customer service! My first visit I gave Nick's a 4-star review due to the fact that the chicken risotto was absolutely spectacular, yet the chocolate blueberry cake left me so unsatisfied as a dessert that we went to get ice cream afterwards. The next time we came we had a waitress that seemed out to get us. We had reserved a table a week in advance only to find that the table was sandwiched between some other tables which would have left us utterly no privacy. After inquiring about a more priority spot, we get virtually brushed off as "that's all we have". We then inquire at the front to ensure we had legitimate reservations and not walk-in seating, to which she calls the waitress up. After threatening to leave, we get a corner table that "just became available". The waitress continued to give us minor customer service belly-aches but the entrees again were really good. OK, we say, let's give Nick's one more shot, since the food is so good. We went back this past Wed night and get the same waitress! I am already beginning to regret coming here when I order a Diet Coke and am brought a local brand Diet "cola" which tastes nothing like Diet Coke. I ask her to take it off the bill (which, fast forward to the end, she left on) and she makes an offhanded comment of how I'm like her BF who "has to have Diet Coke". I'm thinking, if you told me it wasn't Diet Coke to begin with, b****, I might have been open to it! The 2 appetizers I ordered, the cheese and meat plates (which were great) took an hour to arrive at the table. Our entrees take another hour. Finally we turn down dessert only to be forced to wait another 15 minutes for a sample dessert which was a 1/4 teaspoon glob of goo. All in all, we've lost our appetite in Nick's due to this 1 waitress. More appreciative places out there to spend $25 a plate on. read more

This meal was delicious. Both things that we ordered were so tasty, the service was great the only downside is how tiny it is so the wait is pretty long. The bread pudding was so tasty and the eggs were perfectly prepared. The fresh arugula added some nice freshness and crunch. The Diablo drink was so tasty and while it was a bit much for the morning with Tequila I mean I wasn't really complaining. The casseroulat was tasty but lacked in variety of texture but an attempt was made with garnish. Overall very delicious. I am a fan and will definitely be back. The only reason it's not a 5 star is that it feels pretty overpriced. The food cost isn't so bad but the drinks were pretty expensive for no real reason. read more

Nick's is probably my favorite restaurant for dinner in Providence and the restaurant I recommend most often to folks when asked about where to eat here. I am consistently impressed by the solid service - and the food speaks for itself. Chef's care to detail is remarkable and translates to food impeccably. I always recommend Nick's to folks with allergies, as I have brought diners here who have nut allergies, hesitant about eating out, who leave beyond impressed with the sensitivity and follow through Nick and team offer in this area. Most recently at Nicks I had a taste of a coffee gelato (or ice cream) sitting atop a dessert cake that may have been one of the best things I have tasted in years. Not to mention that the rest of the meal was also phenomenal. Kudos! And keep doing it!!!! read more

Food is always amazing. However, it was simply too cold for dining on the back patio; 32 degrees with snow flurries and wind as predicted. The heat lamps around us went out and we had to ask twice to get them turned on. No plastic sheeting on the walls to buffer the wind. The first two bites were amazing but then the plates and food quickly got COLD and unappetizing. People on the deck were trying to eat wearing hats and gloves, coats and scarves. This was not typical al fresco dining in RI - with so many choices in Providence to visit, this night was not worth $300! read more

I have since been back twice for their dinner service and it's wonderful. Both times I made reservations and was seated promptly even though it was very busy. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner and everything was delicious...I can't remember exactly what we had for entrees but I do remember the wines by the glass were very reasonably priced and the CHARCUTERIE PLATE IS SO AWESOME!!! That's what brought me back last night with my dad for HIS birthday...we just ordered drinks and had the charcuterie and it was great. Really diverse selections from pates to a chicharone to lardo (my favorite) with lovely accoutrements. You can't get a "bad" dish at Nick's. -Highly recommend the eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce and house-made biscuit MADE that dish a slam dunk. Cons: -Service was slow. No wonder they always have a line out the door! -The mugs really bothered me for some reason. Handle was only big enough for one finger and I couldn't drink my tea without touching the hot part of the mug. Overall, Nick's was good, but it's also gotten a lot of hype. I probably wouldn't wake up at 7:30 again just to pay $18 for brunch at Nick's. But I'm glad I got to try it. read more

I've been wanting to come here for some time. I have to say that I was disappointed. The food was ok, but $3.50 for coffee was crazy. Also, I have never in my life ordered a fruit bowl and not gotten watermelon or strawberries. For $6 you get banana, mandarin orange, and pomegranate seeds. On a friend's recommendation, we went for breakfast Saturday right after they opened at 10. They were clearly hustling to fit people in during Covid but we must have fallen through the cracks. We put our names in at 10:15 and finished at 11:50 after watching a few parties come and go. I had a cappuccino when we were first seated that was pretty good. Our waitress didn't check on us again until the food came more than an hour later. My wife got the special and her scrambled eggs were grey and tasteless. The potatoes were yummy, a mix of sweet potatoes and regular cut in small pieces and baked with salt and spices. The biscuit was pretty yummy too. That seems to be their specialty. My daughter and I ordered French toast with peaches and got French toast with nectarines. The nectarines were cut in big chunks that didn't seem to go with the dish. There was a little oat/brown sugar crumble and lots of whipped cream. The taste was pretty good but the bread wasn't anything special and I make better French toast at home. Clearly a popular place and I think if we'd had a better served experience it might have felt different. Seems like we also ordered the wrong thing. Despite some other reviews, parking was easy to find and there was barely a 5 min wait as I was dining alone and open to bar seating. Water was delivered immediately and within another 3-4 minutes, my server arrived to take my order: the veggie scrambled eggs, which, I waited 40 minutes to be delivered. 40 minutes...for scrambled eggs. Unless there was a live chicken in the back that they were waiting to lay eggs, 40 min for scrambled eggs is ridiculous. After about 30 min, I asked about my order and was told "it was up next." After another 10 min or so, I started looking up other breakfast places to go to. Finally, the eggs were delivered, piping hot and they were delicious. But not worth waiting 40 min for. The couple to the right of me also waited 40 min for what appeared to be a short stack and a breakfast sandwich. My server brought out an "apology" parfait with fresh fruit. It was good. read more

Today would be the second time we had brunch here. This is a fantastic spot to grab an innovative, fresh, well cooked meal. Trust me, if you like good food, it is worth the wait. We had a counter seat so we could watch the line cooks get our meals together. For someone like me who enjoys watching cooking shows the live action was a lot of fun. The menu is superb. The brunch always has very interesting twists that incorporate local ingredients (cheese, grains, fish, etc.). Plus, unlike the last three places where I've had brunch the sausage was actually homemade! It is quite clear that from the chef to the cooks to the waiters everyone here was committed to the restaurant, not just mindlessly slopping food onto plates. For anyone who is searching for an excuse not to come here, it is crowded, loud and definitely there is a major wait. This is the price to pay for a quality product, I think, and this place is more than worth it. I highly HIGHLY recommend it as it is one of my favorites in Providence. With a few more visits I think it might get to be on the top ten favorite restaurants I've ever been to. read more

Awesome! with a side of southern flare breakfast! Just so you know I am from the south and grew up having a large breakfast. Eggs, hash browns, biscuits, grits, gravy, sausage...ya know, the stick to your ribs kinda hearty breakfast. Since moving north years ago I have had only a few encounters of a southern style breakfast. This morning at Nick's on Broadway is one of these times! I ordered a special with all local ingredients, a grilled buttermilk biscuit, sausage, sausage gravy, eggs and a mix of breakfast potatoes! Too my delight in the potato mix were sweet potatoes! I found the biscuit heavenly. The gravy was a light, perfect layer of memories from back home. I have been dying to try Nick's forever - more than any other restaurant in Providence. We finally had a baby sitter this past Saturday for our anniversary and were lucky to get dinner reservations. It was totally worth the wait and anticipation!! The service was terrific. Our server was very informative and made great suggestions. I'm terrible at pairing wine with food - I usually just order what I like. She was very knowledgeable and helped me make my selections. I was thrilled to see the farm from which I pick up my CSA share was on the menu. That was really nice to see. And the food was fantastic! I really can't put into words how much I enjoyed the food. I had pumpkin soup to start, I just can't resist pumpkin. My husband started off with pumpkin risotto, I guess he has the same problem. I had a vegetarian dish that sounded amazing and it was. His sea bass and seasonable vegetables was perfect. The desserts - chocolate tasting and peach tasting - were perfectly portioned and decadent. It was pricey but totally worth it, especially for the occasion. We sat at the window and watched people try to walk into the wrong door all night. Delicious and amusing. I will preface this review with a disclaimer: what would have been a perfect brunch was somewhat tarnished by not only the 45 minute wait for a table, but an additional 45 minutes waiting for our food after ordering... Needless to say, Nick's on Broadway is a popular brunch spot. Waiting aside, every other aspect of the Nick's experience was phenomenal. I had to partake in the Coffee Milk cocktail, starring Rhode Island's favorite beverage (and one of my favorites as well). I also ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was excellent. I love the vibe of the restaurant, as well as the V for Vendetta bathroom (completely random, but perhaps those who have seen the movie will understand? Or maybe I'm just weird...) Definitely would enjoy coming back, just perhaps I would plan an intermediate activity whilst running down the clock. read more

I can't say enough good things about Nick's On Broadway. The brunch is spectacular, but it is my absolute favorite place for dinner in all of Rhode Island, and probably the United States. Chef Derek Wagner truly loves what he does, and he does so without any of inflated ego that many "celebrity chefs" have. He enjoys making people happy with his food, and that means that he is willing to change things up a bit to accommodate his guests. One of the reasons I love Nick's is because they have always been accommodating of my gluten intolerance. The staff is aware of food allergies and I feel confident that if they give me the go-ahead to order something, it is safe to eat. All of the main dishes I order are spectacular, but the real star is the charcuterie plate. For two, it is about a dozen different pates, terrines, jams, and other goodies. Can't eat bread? Nick's will serve you a bowl of chicharrones (fried pork rinds) so you can still enjoy the crunch of a piece of toast without any of the gluten. Yes, the wait will be long if you decide to visit on a whim, but they do take reservations. If you are waiting, the friendly and attentive staff will be more than happy to provide you with a delicious cocktail or glass of wine. Five stars all the way! read more

I have only been here twice for brunch but had a beautifully presented, tasty ensemble of breakfast flavors. We arrived during prime weekend breakfast hour but did not have too long of a wait for a table. We brought the toddler, who was treated like a normal tiny human and the super nice and attentive waitress made game attempts to understand my toddler's version of my husband's rareish European language. However, she couldn't hear a damn thing we said and was clearly relying on body language to determine answers to her questions so we didn't get condiments or almost our full order but luckily I realized she hadn't even heard my husband! Super loud. I had the eggs Benedict, which had perfectly poached eggs and greens with a light hollandaise sauce over biscuits. These were what I like to refer to as northern biscuits. Neither light nor fluffy nor particularly memorable but a tasty enough base for soaking up yolk and sauce. Sort of sconeish. Not bad, but I've had fluffier English muffins that served as a lighter base for a "benny" as we heard yelled in the open kitchen multiple times. For breakfast or brunch the boisterous atmosphere seems fine. But in causing service questions, yes, it is just too loud! Lovely food though and I am sure we will be back here some time along the way. read more

My friends and I were visiting Providence from PA and NJ for Waterfire. On our way home, we decided to go to Nick's. What an amazing brunch. The staff was friendly and attentive. We were served in a way that wasn't rushed. We had time to relax before the meal was served. Our meals were amazing! We had a range of food from grilled cheese to biscuit and egg sandwiches to eggs Benedict. The food tasted incredibly fresh. It was not an ordinary brunch meal. Nick's put their own special touches on everything, from the main dish down to even the potatoes on the side. The open kitchen provided for a lively, but relaxed, atmosphere. We waited 25 minutes for our food, and not only was it worth the wait, I think it is quite reasonable that every kitchen should not be a fast-food, factory-paced enterprise. I enjoy spending a portion of my lazy Sunday morning sipping coffee and talking to friends. But oh, the food! Best home fries in the area, with both regular and sweet potatoes, served with scallions. The rustic bread is made with pesto - totally delicious. I got one of the artisan sandwiches on rustic bread with eggs, spinach, and tomatoes. He got the standard special, which was also simple but delicious. I am looking forward to returning sooner rather than later. Moral of the story: arrive before 10:00 and be happy! read more

Wow, this place is pricey. Usually I don't mind spoiling myself but I wasn't expecting that. I got the eggs benedict with bacon. The bacon is thick cut and surprisingly not to salty. There was something about the hollandaise sauce that threw me off though, I wasn't too pleased with that. The coffee was good and strong, I did enjoy that. Went to Nick's for brunch on a Sunday afternoon after a good 4-on-4 basketball game, so we arrived ravenous. I'm also not a fan of places that enforce dress codes, and in particular, outside of dinner hours - so I was pleasantly surprised when they let us in wearing athletic gear. Our waiter was at our side soon after, and was easy-going but knowledgeable. He took time to explain the specials for the day. My friend and I both elected to have the Savory Bread Pudding and the house hash browns. I had a cappucino and she had some tea. The waiter was extremely helpful, bringing a pretty comprehensive selection of teas, and taking the time to provide inputs when asked. My cappucino was excellent - just the right proportion of foam to milk to espresso. The savory bread pudding was excellent - the bread pudding itself was dense, without being heavy. Tasted fresh and was, quite frankly, delicious! The bread pudding was topped with two poached eggs (properly poached) and delicious Hollandaise sauce - with just the light hint of acidity. The side of house home fries was also delicious - not greasy or crunchy - it even had sweet potatoes in it! Will be back! read more

Nick's is a place I frequent that is consistently top-notch. Mind you, I've never had the luxury of eating dinner at this fine place. I'm talking strictly in terms of brunch and their breakfast menu is fantastic. They place a big emphasis on having fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The specials are always worth having. My favorite item to order is the breakfast polenta, with their cassoulet that's offered during winter being a close second. The black beans and eggs & their version of eggs benedict are also delicious and worth having. Finally, if you crave sweet, get their french toast. Super thick slices of brioche bread are used here and they are cooked to a level of sweet pastry decadence. (order the warm compote to top it off!) There's only a few times that I have felt disappointed here. I feel their omelettes are definitely the weakest item on the menu. Every time I've ventured to satisfy my need for an omelette, I end up with something that is just ok. They tend to be overcooked in any combination of too much fat and too high of a temp. This makes for a hard omelette. It's not bad, just not that special either. I can make better at home and I feel Nick's could definitely do better. Also, and believe me I love spicy food, but their bloody mary is straight up overpowering and unbalanced with the level of spice used. The other brunch cocktails are good and much more balanced with my preference being for the adult coffee milk. (I forget the name because I rarely drink with breakfast) Make sure to get here early otherwise you'll have to wait for a seat. The place fills up fast. read more

I'll get right to the point: Best. Brunch. Ever. What drew me to this place (and I drove an hour to get here from MA) was that they had out-of-the-box brunch items. I try to avoid carbs and sugar, and for brunch that generally means you get the omelet or eggs and sub the toast for something else - but here they served poached eggs on steamed veggies which was exactly what I wanted and I didn't need to make any silly substitutions. The dish was flavorful and filling and they had a great tea list too. Also, I sat by the bar where they make the food and found it fascinating to watch the chefs function as a well-organized and cohesive whole.
