This is one of those places known for what they do, and what they do... they do very, VERY well. It's simple really. Burger. Grilled onions. Cheese. Plus all the fixings. However, the flavor is somehow dialed up to 200%. For reals. It's certainly one of the best onion burgers in the area. My family and I were disappointed by how unclean it was. We came early at 10:30 today cause we heard about limited seating. All the A/C units had dust and grease on them. The one tv that was off had smears. The buffalo taxidermy had dust and what looked like grime on it. The flies were constantly flying around us. The bar seats had big wear and tear on them. And the floor and tables hadn't been cleaned after the breakfast crowd. The staff is at least nice and the food was good, but not great enough to understand the rating of "best burger place in Oklahoma". I was surprised to see that this place hasn't been inspected since 2024 according to the Yelp inspection report AND that it passed health inspection. read more

I have met various people traveling from all around the world who stop in to try the burger. Just remember to take cash as it is a cash only establishment. Small and quaint exactly how it was described. There are only two options on this menu, a burger and a cheeseburger. I would have gotten more toppings like bacon or jalapeños but was never asked. All good. Burger was juicy and delicious as is. The fries left a lot to be desired. Not sure if the oil was old or what, but they had a burned taste even though they clearly were not. Everyone is yelling their order directly to the cook (iykyk) and next thing you know, delicious magic appears before your very eyes! Helpful tips: 1) if you're in a rush, plan for another day where you have time to wait if it's super busy. The restaurant only seats about 20 at a time. 2) this place is CASH ONLY. No if, ands, or buts about it. I think there's an ATM at the store across the street, but I'm not sure because I always have cash. A burger, fries, and drink is around $18-$19. I see this place as a hole in the wall, so the prices of the burgers were surprisingly steep. Only one staff member was working, so we waited about 30 minutes for our orders. We both got the cheeseburger combo. The bun could have held up better; it was soggy but still a pretty good cheeseburger. I love that the charred onions weren't bitter tasting. I wasn't fond of fries; they needed salt. They were stringy and very oily. Overall I enjoyed my visit, but the place could be cleaner. The $20 burger make of 70% beef patty, discount bacon, and sliced government cheese with no seasoning did not taste good at all, and they don't cut through the bottom bun! Meaning you have to plunge your hands to the wrist in the greasy soup mixture that you just waited an HOUR for. They've been there for "over 20 years" and NEVER had a complaint? Luckily for us there was no line & we were the only people outside waiting for Nic's to unlock the door. The staff was friendly & the food was ready pretty quickly. It filled up immediately as there aren't many places to sit but don't let this intimidate you. Theres 2 people, Jovon, who's cooking and knew almost everyone by name and what they drank and Nic who also seemed to know everyone. This place is a very odd spot, almost looks like it's someone's house when you pull up. They do have parking on the side of the restaurant though. Two important things to know before going here, the space is very small, 3 tables and some bar stools. There no real waiting area and they make everything fresh, so if they're full it might be awhile. Secondly, they only accept cash. However, once you get your food, you'll know why they're busy and all the spots are full. This place knows how to run a business in my opinion. They have burgers and one daily special. Simple but amazing. Once you sit down, they get you drinks and ask if you're going to have the burger or the daily special. They do this because once you say burger, they put on a fresh patty. Once the patty is almost done, the cook comes over and asks you exactly what you want on it so you do get all the generic stuff that not everyone wants. Amazing, because I'm picky so this strategy works well for me. Once you're done; they have boxes and they tell you your total, pay you cash and you're done. Great business ploy IMO. The burgers are amazing. To start they give you a huge slab of meat, nothing small and flimsy. On my burger I got some sides that cost extra (egg, bacon, and jalapeños) with mustard and lettuce. The burgers are so huge that they're messy but they're super good. The jalapeños were perfect, not too spicy. The egg is cooked how you want. I also got their curly fries and put the Cajun seasoning on it. They were delicious. My husband also had the same extras as me but he got all the other stuff on it: grilled onions, Mayo, tomato, and pickle. Also super messy because of how big they are. A friend and I went for lunch on a hot Monday in August. Neither of us had been for at least 10 years. It lived up to my friend's memory but not mine. We arrived at 11:25 am in case there was a crowd. We were surprised to see no line out the door. We had no trouble parking our vehicle in the gravel parking lot north of the restaurant. When we walked in, Nic greeted us and invited us to take a seat. We had our choice of seats at the bar or at the window in the half full dining room. We chose window seats. As we sat and looked out at Pennsylvania Ave, we waited for the cook (Jovon?) to take our order. My friend ordered a cheeseburger, while I ordered mine without cheese. What arrived at our table was not the Nic's burger we remembered. It had the same amount of meat, but it was served on a standard burger bun. I remembered a flatter party on a wider diameter bun to accommodate the wider patty. Instead, this patty was about 3 cm thick. As my friend pointed out, they deserve credit for making it well done. That's not easy for such a thick burger. It came already cut in half, but due to its smaller diameter it didn't need to be cut. In fact, I found that it was difficult to eat because the height of the patty made it easier for the burger to slide out of the bun as I ate it. I failed to get equal bites of burger and bun after the first one or two bites of each half. This burger fails one of my criteria for a great burger by having poor construction. On the other hand, it came to me directly from the grill, so it was good in regards to temperature. As I have mentioned in other burger reviews, I prefer to wait for my burger to cool down than to have a lukewarm burger from the time it arrives at my table. The grilled onions were another disappointing part of this burger. I wanted double or triple than what came with it. The change to a taller, thicker patty makes it more difficult to add more onions. Any extra condiments simply fall off with each bite, especially slippery condiments like onions. In my opinion, that's another reason to favor wider, flatter patties over these taller patties. The curly fries were tasty. They needed a bit of extra salt for my taste, but due to not being greasy, they didn't accept extra salt easily. With some patience, I added the salt they needed and they turned out well. Was this burger and fries worth almost $16? I want to say yes because I want Nic's to survive and thrive. I want Nic's to offer breakfast again because my mouth drools when I think about pancakes cooked on Nic's flattop. However, when I can get a flatter onion burger at Tucker's or The Garage for less, then I am not so sure. read more
