I decided to give this salon a shot since it has so many great reviews. Unfortunately, I was utterly disappointed. I'm sure there are some great stylists in there... I had Jessica. Jessica is really, really nice; however her hair cutting sucks. My hair was cut really uneven and there was no style to my hair. My bangs also looked ridiculous. My hair looked like my 5 year old child picked up scissors and cut it. I thought about going back and having her fix it; however, the thought of her and scissors coming near me again was a little too much. I couldn't be happier that I found this place. Christine did a fantastic job with my blonde hair. I came in with old brassy bleached hair and we added 3-4 different colors and foils to add dimension. It's still blonde but more beautiful and natural. I will keep coming back. read more

I have gone to this salon the last couple of years and wish I could stop by more but it's a tad pricey, however you get what you paid for. It's tiny but very intimate. I love this place! The people are all very friendly and welcoming. Christine Lowe is the best! She really listens to what I want and I always walk out of there pleased. She fixed my color after a bad experience and I get compliments on my hair all the time now! This place ROCKS! Not only do you get a bunch of free services when it's your first appointment with them, but all the staff is super knowledgable, accommodating, and passionate about their craft! Jessica is my favorite here at Nirvana, although I hear all the girls do give a fab experience! I've been able to experiment a little with Jessica on a few different styles and she always makes it great and I leave there relaxed and happy. Nirvana is a great salon! I have never been to a salon where everyone, and I mean everyone, is this friendly. On top of that, they are really great at what they do. I used to be very concerned about letting anyone other than Victoria do my hair- different people have different ideas. But over the last few years, several people at the salon have worked on my hair (Janis, Shawna, and Raymond) and all have done an outstanding job. I'm pretty comfortable letting anyone at the salon do my hair- I now know there is a professional standard and they all meet it! I always look forward to going here- they spoil you rotten! A couple of days ago I saw Lauré for help with my outgrown mop of hair. She did a wonderful job keeping some length but giving me layers that look good all the time, even after a sweaty 12 hour shift at work. Everyone there was kind and helpful and Lauré was especially so. Plus she was efficient, which is great news for me as I can't sit still for too long. The perfect amount of pampering and cutting. I called and told the staff I had trouble finding the salon. Note: the entrance is located in the parking lot behind the store fronts on North Santa Cruz (off Bachmann). I was ten minutes late, but not a problem as they warmly greeted me. Laura was exceptional. She asks good questions and really listens. I have thin hair so need a good hair cut and style that will maximize my hair. With Group-on, I greatly enjoyed the scalp massage, the hair wrap in rose fragrance and the aroma therapy hand massage. Laura took her time with the hair cut and style. She took me out of my comfort zone and I loved the new look. She gave me some helpful style tips. I really like Laura, trust her judgement and will start going to her. It was a relaxing and fun experience. read more

This place isn't just for women, they do great with mens hair as well. I got a warm and welcome reception from the front desk, and was even offered a beer during my cut! I was lucky enough to be paired up with KRISTINA. Loved the wash and head massage with scented oils to start things off. My hair can be tough to work with, but she did a great job giving me exactly what I wanted. I gave her some general notes on what I was looking for, and let her have some freedom to adjust things as she felt necessary. It came out GREAT!! I will definitely be going back to her in the future. On a side note, the Aveda shave gel for men is excellent. I will never go back to normal shaving cream after using this product. read more

I was surprised at how cramped the salon is (kind of a hole in the wall) Usually Aveda Salons feel more luxurious. No comfortable waiting area (a single 2' bench to the right of the door), and people need to squeeze by you to go back and forth to the restroom. It took 15 minutes before someone offered me tea or water. The mood of the reception staff is cold and a little e snobbish. Overall, the place felt low budget. The hairdresser I met with was very friendly and listened to me, but she was not the one who did my treatment - she instructed her staff on what to mix, and apply to clients - she didn't do anything except talk to me about what she advised. The young girl who did my Elixir Rx - did not have the touch - just kind of a joke - like I was waiting for her to finish - overall not comfortable or relaxing - a waste of time. I felt very uncomfortable with an apprentices hovering over the appointment. I've been to Di Pietro Todd, and stopped going there because there are 3 different assistants on your hair throughout and it just doesn't feel personable. This place seems to be the same hierarchy feel - I don't like assembly line hair salons, I want to have a relationship with my hairdresser. At least Di Pietro Todd is a nice atmosphere to relax in. I also did not like that they can only use Aveda Color, which tends to go towards orange or brassy on blonds. I think the best hair dressers will go for the brand that works best for each individual. Rarely does one product line have the best products in every category, e.g. Aveda may have some great aromatherapy products, and oils, but not the best at every product. It is like Tahari and CK branching out into shoes - Just stick to what you're best at - designing clothing. I was sadly disappointed in atmosphere the hierarchical process here. Onward... read more

I've gotten my hair highlighted & cut there by Shawna twice now, & I always get lots of compliments on my hair in addition to being happy with the results. In fact, just the other day, someone I see occasionally at work liked my highlights so much she asked where I got them done! The first time I went, I didn't know that there was an aromatherapy scalp massage included; it was quite a pleasant surprise! Note: I tend to be pretty low maintenance...I like my hair to be wash, comb, & go on a daily basis & had virgin hair until 2000 when I first started getting highlights. I also only go about every 3-4 months when the length & roots start bugging me. Their products (Aveda) have nice but subtle scents. Besides what they use on me at my appointments, I got to sniff some of their other merchandise at their 'holiday party,' which I ended up attending because I wanted to something relaxing to do one weekend when I was on my 30-minute radius tether. Small-world experience coming up: While talking to the woman who gave me a hand massage at the holiday party, we discovered that her stepsister & I went to high school together (even the same class)! Crap, I recognize the name, but now I need a yearbook to look up a picture to go with the name, & who knows where my yearbook is at my parents' house. But I digress. Anyway, if you're looking for the place, it's actually across the street from Dolce Spazio Dessert Cafe, not directly on the street, but on the back side of the building facing a parking lot. read more

The salon isn't the easiest to find or spot. Thankfully I got there early Sunday morning so (the street) parking wasn't too bad. Christine was pretty nice. My hair looked nice, but it wasn't the exact color I wanted and it feels a bit coarse but it's expected after the coloring that was done. I have black hair and wanted a deep red or a purple burgundy red, but my partial highlights is closer to a brown red. My appt was for 9:00am and I got there about 9:05 am and was taken in pretty quickly, the whole process took about 2 hours, got out of there about 11:30am after paying and picking up a few more products. The AVEDA tea is AMAZING. I choose this place cause I wanted to find a salon that used eco-friendly products (like Aveda), however I still prefer Retreat Salon in Los Altos (for better results) but Nirvana had better customer service. read more

My original appointment was okay with Eileen. She had to cancel my second appointment, and the salon made no effort to reschedule this appointment. I ended up going to another salon because they were able to fit me in. Nirvana never called to follow up to see if I wanted another appointment. I will probably stick with the new salon since it seems like Nirvana has plenty of business and doesn't need new customers. read more

Tiffany is amazing! I am so happy she is back in Los Gatos (granted I would follow her anywhere). She is so great at her craft and I am always beyond pleased when I leave her chair. She listens to what I have in mind and does it better. When I have a drastic color change I have no problem being there for long periods of time because the salon has a welcoming vibe. The salon is nice- pretty typical Aveda salon in terms of services/products,etc. I had an unusually bad experience though, the woman who was cutting my hair ripped out my cartilage piercing. I realize that this mistake could happen anymore, and it was a genuine accident- but she kept cutting/styling my hair as I sat there in pain. I actually think if Janis had seen how it turned out she would have wanted to fix it, not sure how she missed it when she was cutting it. I've been a client of Lauré for many years and get asked about my haircut and color all the time. Wish I could take credit for it, but thanks to my awesome stylist and the Aveda products that she uses, my hair always looks great. And though I'm a Lauré loyalist, I've seen many of the other stylists at the salon over the years and have never been disappointed with the service I've received...everyone is friendly, professional and does a great job. I went to this salon at the end of January to look for someone to do my bridal party hair and make up for my wedding. I decided on this salon b/c the lady that did my trial hair and make up then was very nice, she did a great job on my hair and make up and their wedding package prices were great. Here's the reason why I'm giving this salon only 1 star. First and foremost, the salon lady (whom I saw in Jan.) did a SPECTACULAR job on my hair and make up for my wedding...I couldn't be happier. While I was having my pre bridal hair appt. with her about two weeks before my wedding, we talked about my make up since I had my pre bridal make up appt. about a week later. She proceeded to tell me that the make up the salon uses (which is Aveda) isn't really good for weddings and she suggested that I should buy Mac make up since that's really more geared toward weddings. Um...this is TWO WEEKS BEFORE MY WEDDING! She couldn't tell me this when I saw her in January?!?!? I'm speculating that she didn't mention this then b/c I would've gone to another salon, which is true. But I feel as if I was misled. She used the Aveda make up on me in Jan. and I thought it was fine. I liked her technique and I thought it stayed on for quite some time. But this was in Jan. and my wedding wasn't until end of May so sometimes you start questioning what you remember! Don't get me wrong, the lady I worked with is very nice and like I said, she did a great job on me, but I was beyond irritated when she told me this. However, I kept my mouth shut b/c it was so close to my wedding and I still wanted her to do a good job on me. Now, she didn't force me to buy Mac makeup, but if the person who's going to apply your make up doesn't really have faith in her salon's products, well of course any logical person would buy whatever make up the make up artist suggests, right????? So, in the middle of my wedding preparation, amidst all the stress, I had to add yet another errand and buy the Mac make up. Even the person who was helping me thought it was weird that I was buying my own darn make up! This also means that I had to spend more money than I budgeted for this b/c well...gee, I thought I'd be using THEIR make up!!!! Luckily, Mac allows you to return anything within 30 days and I did just that...however, it was yet another errand I had to do after my wedding. In addition, the owner needs to tell her associates exactly what the prices are for wedding parties. I was given different prices by different people, but luckily, I obtained a document that stated their wedding package prices. I'm not sure why each associate didn't know what the prices were. read more

I go here often and really like it but just got charged for a treatment I did not ask for and would not have gotten. Make sure you know what they are spraying in your hair and how much it will be when it happens-otherwise you will be disappointed and a bit shocked like me. I have been to see Nicole Hayden several times for a cut and color and she does an amazing job! The color is beautiful and I have received numerous compliments. Nicole also styled my hair and my bridesmaids hair for my wedding two weeks ago and I couldn't have been happier. My hair looked beautiful and it lasted all day, it even looked great the next day too. My bridesmaids were quite happy with their hair as well. I would highly recommend Nicole to anyone. If you just want a cut and color or if you need someone for something as important as your wedding day. Pretty small and cozy little place, very low profile and relaxing. Not a loud and hectic scene like some other salons I've been to. I've seen Christine a few times for a cut and style and she's pretty good for the price. I've paid a lot more at other salons for cuts that aren't really that great. Nirvana has really friendly staff and if you can get a junior stylist you can get a less-expensive cut that's still pretty good. The products are heaven; I think they're worth the money. Ok things started off a little rocky here. I had an appointment with them that I made about 3 weeks previous. 3 of my friends had been here and rant and raved about the place. I have a hard time trusting someone with my hair and sense both my girlfriend's hair looked good I said sure let me try it out. My hair was super long and I was ready to let it go so I was SUPER anxious for the appointment.....so I showed up and the girl at the front desk said that my stylist Jessica Russo was not feeling well and had left and that she had been trying to reach me to let me know. I was a little pissed cause first of all I had to arrange a babysitter, drive from Milpitas and we all know gas prices are FN expensive, and like I said I was SUPER anxious....so it was really disappointing....WAH WAH WAH. No fault of the Jessica of course people get sick and whatnot I understand but the person that got me a little heated was the front desk chick.....she didn't have my # down right or my name and she seemed a little spacey. Come on its your job to make appointments....how hard is it to make sure you have correct information. YES I WAS UPSET! Could you tell? Anyway so I had to reschedule for a few days later. Let me just say it was soooo worth the wait. I am so pleased with my hair. Jessica did an AWESOME job. I gave her a few pictures and basically let her decide what she thought would look good. My hair was down to my waist practically and now its a little past my shoulders. It feels so healthy, light and its so manageable and STYLISH! Besides her doing such a FABULOUS job....she is really sweet and patient....cause let me tell you my hair is not the easiest hair to handle....IT WAS A HOT MESS. After two years I still love this place! It's as if it's my first time coming there each time I walk through the door. They offer me a beverage of choice when I walk in, my scalp gets massaged during my consultation, and then I get a very relaxing hair wash/scalp and neck massage with every visit. Customer service here is top notch. Eileen is the best! Do to her maternity leave I now see another stylist who is equally as wonderful. The stylists here really know what they're doing and I love my my cuts each time I walk out the door. I highly recommend this place..still. read more

Kelly is wonderful! I'd been looking for someone who understood my fine wavy hair for far too long. I walked in to purchase products and observed her with a client, and by the end of my shopping experience I was booking a cut with her. She is everything her bio states on the salon's website. I'd had a few terrible haircuts from "master stylists" and Kelly is working with me and doing an amazing job. She also helped me choose makeup and I love my new pulled together look. I have been getting my hair cut with the same person for 4years, but a friend sold me an extra Groupon she had for Nirvana Aveda. $35 for $65 of services. They booked me with Laura who did an AMAZING job! I couldn't wait to tell you all about it. She took my hair from mid back to just a few inches below my ears. I was nervous about going so extreme at first, but she really took the time to look through magazines with me and understand the styles I like before she started cutting. I am extremely happy with the results and enjoyed chatting with her. I can't wait to go back and see her. It's great they only charge $45 for her cut because she is very talented, but it is a bummer that I bought the Groupon thinking I would get $65 of services. It'd be nice if they could apply that to the future visit or the $75 worth of product I bought after. read more
