There was seven in our group to celebrate my daughter's 23rd birthday. We ordered different dishes half of them vegan and the other half meat and veggie platters. All the food was delicious and we were warned the spicy level could be too hot, but it was mild in comparison to what very hot level chili we are used to. We came here for lunch, and enjoyed their chicken korma and lamb curry. Both were medium spicy and spicy level was good. The lunch special included rice and naan, and you could choose between plain or garlic naan. It also included 2 sides, which I think rotate daily. Portion was good, and food was super flavorful! The korma was very creamy, I soaked up all the naan and rice with it. The restaurant itself is clean and simplistic and owner was very friendly. Food came out quickly. Either this place is a scam, or they raised their prices exorbitantly in less than a month! Look at the two receipts from 07/09/2019 to 07/30/2019. Don't be fooled! 1. Onion Bhaji = Mix Veg Pakora. Raised from $3.95 to $8.95! 2. Malai Kofta raised from $10.95 to $13.95! 3. Chicken Tikka Masala raised from $11.95 to $15.95! 4. Rice was the exact same. Raised from $2.95 to $5.95! 5. Excellent food and the staff recommended great items for people in my party who were less familiar with Indian food. They did forget to bring my dish but the portions were actually huge so it ended up being a blessing in disguise and we all shared the dishes that were brought. Though we've known about Nirvana being an Arcadian but first time here thanks to @SGV Eats (great community on Facebook for foodies), and didn't disappoint. I am the type that wants to try everything so would have loved their buffet (it's only avail for Holidays due to COVID-19 safety). Hubby ordered Chicken Tikka Massala and I the Lamb Karahi (not as popular amongst Yelpers); however, saw cumin as 1 of the ingredients and knew it pairs well coz Northern Chinese use cumin a lot for lamb skewers and such. It didn't come through as much but all the flavors were good like a stew more than a curry. So let's call it a Lamb Stew! How can you go wrong with Chicken or Tikka being the one of the most popular and safe options. Hubby was sweating as he ate tho. ***Tip for owner/waiters ~ when someone orders spicy or higher, automatically provide extra napkins*** Naan was fluffy like the rice of course great for dipping. The complimentary Lentil Soup stole the show for me coz it was sooooooo good! I typically frown upon lentils coz they tend to be thick like baby food, but their version is brothy! My favorite item is complimentary, which is so fitting. LOL Price is a bit steep $18 for lunch but totally understand inflation; however, compared to what you'd get for Midditeranean Kabob plates for example, the value is less. I've lived about 5 minutes away from Nirvana for over a decade, and finally walked in here for lunch recently. Lunch is a buffet, currently $11. It seems most Indian restaurants offer lunch buffets. This place is small. Most seating are for parties of 4, with one table near the back for two. During the lunch hour, many came in solo. If this is a regular occurrence, I wonder why the owners don't put in more smaller tables. Anyways, Indian food uses a lot of spices and/or curry. I'm not at all familiar with the regions, just care about the flavor. There are several kinds of rich, heavy curry based dishes. The bold flavors go well over plain rice or with their garlic naan. * Chicken tikka masala had a nice red thick sauce, but the chunks of white meat were a bit dry inside. * Fish curry was a hit. Tender pieces of bite fish in a spicy sauce was quite tasty. * Tandoori chicken, mainly drumettes, they carried a nice slight charred aroma. Great flavor. * The cilantro paste was cooling against the rich sauces of the various curry dishes. Just spread it on to the naan, and dip it into the fish curry. Awesome! The Indian masala tea taste just like chai, with a hint of cinnamon and slices. They serve it unsweetened, but you can request it sweetened. The two large flatscreens aired Indian music videos. These were actually entertaining to watch. Service was nice. They were very polite but not really warm or friendly. No complaints. Nirvana is a place that would take me a while to miss it. Though a few items stood out with flavor, at the end of the day, they lack variety. And I like variety. Worth a visit to try some tasty curries. I read some great reviews and wanted to come support a local business. They were offering our Facebook group a "free entree" because they made "too much food" and to "help" them for Thanksgiving and I thought that would be so great to try out a new Indian spot. Of course we would have also ordered a bunch of other stuff too. After we got there, they told us there was a $50 min for the "free entree", this felt like a bait & switch as it was NOT anywhere in the original post (pics below). However, they did offer 20% off for walk in orders, so we gave it a try and didn't make a big deal about it. Coconut curry with chicken - both of us felt the flavors were really bland and tasted watered down. It was very meh. We couldn't taste the coconut whatsoever. The chicken was very tender and soft but not much flavor. The portion for the price wasn't really worth it even with the discount. We also ordered a side of rice & naan as it didn't come with anything. Garlic Naan - I usually love naan, but this one was thick & doughy/chewy, with NO hint of garlic. Maybe they gave us plain Naan? This seems to be the norm as a lot of other reviews comment the same thing. Basmati rice - was the same portion as the curry container. The rice was fluffy and cooked well. Mango Lassi - this had the weirdest viscosity. When I swirled it, it was like water with the ice instead of smoothie-like thickness. It had good flavor but the liquidity threw me off and there was ice in it. I always had Mango Lassi as a thicker drink. Our lunch came out to be just under $30 with the discount. I gave a generous tip as it was near the holidays and the reason for coming out here. When we finally got the food that was packaged to go, I was disappointed with the portions after paying so much. I've had Indian food at a lot of other places, my faves being Bhanu in Rosemead & Curry Time in El Monte. This didn't live up to the hype and it's pricy for what you get. How can they offer ~$11 Lunch buffets & charge that much for a la carte? Idk. The service was great! The gentleman was friendly & accommodating. It was about a 20 minute wait, so we just walked to Starbucks for some drinks. The restaurant itself is pretty small with about 10 tables on both sides, located in a plaza with other restaurants (Sesame Grill & Starbucks) with plenty of parking. The server was super nice and gave us a great recommendation. There was a free mango lassi if you check in. The cost of curry was a bit more in the expensive side but there was a lot for the portion. Nirvana Indian Cuisine is a pretty good Indian restaurant that has some flavorful food but is lacking in a few areas. The Vindaloo curry I got was really good, it had a great mixture of spices and spice level! I usually ask for my food to be spicy at Indian restaurants and sometimes it loses a lot of flavor, but here it didn't! The spice level was just right for it to have a good burn and still retain all the amazing flavors! The curry also had a copious amount of chicken which was really nice as sometimes restaurants try to skimp out on meat quantity in their curry dishes. The vegetable basmati rice was a bit of a let down however, there wasn't as much rice as I had hoped considering it was the same price as the curry. Also, it was a vegetable rice, so I don't see why it should be priced as high as a chicken curry. While it tasted good, it really could have been a bigger portion. Luckily, Nirvana offers a buy three get one free deal for online orders! So, my party ordered three types of curry and got the rice for free! Using this deal is the only reason I would get the rice as it is way overpriced for what it is and I could just make my own at home. All in all, Nirvana Indian Cuisine is a pretty good Indian restaurant! The curry is very flavorful and has a nice blend of spice for anyone who enjoys spicy foods! Nirvana is the best tester restaurant if you have not eaten Indian Cuisine before. Here, you will find a pretty wide variety of authentic Indian food. They are a small business with a small staff, but they somehow manage to cater to all of customers on a daily basis, and have slowly created a name brand for themselves in the 626 area. Restaurant interior is what you would expect, small and cozy. Service is also pretty standard; staff members are just as attentive as they need to be. Service might be slightly slow, but that is according to which day that they are fully staffed. My go to here is their yellow coconut chicken curry as well as their garlic nan. Both are filled with flavor and delicious. You almost have to order two because the taste can get pretty addicting. Great place for take out too. Just order ahead of time. Great flavor and on point. Ordered Chicken tadoori, Chicken Karahi and a type of Paneer. The chicken is moist and tender and infused with flavors. The paneer is creamy and infused with the herbs. I can taste the cardamom, and the spices. The Karahi was spicy and has a nice creamy spicy kick to it. My only problem with this place is that it is a bit overpriced. The rice and naan was super expensive. $8 for Rice and for 4 portions that's $32 just for Rice. I mean who charges $8 for rice. 10 lbs of Basmati Rice is only $20. read more

Very enthusiastic worker. Right when I walked in, I was greeted and handed a menu for a to go order. I was quickly given options but I had done much research prior and already knew what I wanted. I ended up getting 2 entrees, one rice dish, and 2 garlic nann. The curry fish was delicious and highly recommend. It came with large pieces of fish and the taste and spiciness of the curry was superb. Highly recommend the mushroom rice as well if you love mushrooms! Amazing Indian food, but even more amazing staff. This review is long overdue, and I cannot recommend it enough, this is my Indian food spot. This a family owned, family run restaurant and you can taste and feel the love and dedication throughout the establishment. You cannot go wrong with any of their dishes, just be careful when you ask for spicy, only ask if you can handle it, but the taste is amazing. Some people might think this is on the pricy side, specially the vegetarian dishes, but you truly get what you pay for and the food is delicious. Solid 4 stars. Have gone a few times in the past, most recently with the wife for the lunch buffet. It was empty at noon but by 12:30 every table was filled. Solid selection of buffet items, and plain naan cooked fresh for each table. It's not the biggest buffet, but each item was well made and tasty. I tried the jalapeno curry (mild) which was surprisingly unique and very tasty. The chicken tikki masala and tandoori chicken were both juicy and tender - which in my experience at Indian restaurants can often come out dry or overcooked. read more

I've been going to Nirvana for years. In my opinion it is one of the best Indian restaurants in the SGV. They are a family run business. The owners are always there to make sure you have a great experience. They have a great lunch buffet often serving dishes that I can't find anywhere else. Their chicken tikka is always tender and flavorful. Their tandoori chicken is fresh from the tandoor. Their dinner menu offers all of the classics as well as some less common dishes, all freshly prepared. I can't recommend Nirvana highly enough. read more

So my family ordered a catering entrée from Nirvana we spent about $200 on this catering food . That is supposed to feed 15 people. When we receive this entrée and I will also be posting the photos of the entrée before it is passedout the chicken . chicken that I paid for roughly estimates to 15 99. A pound there is less than 2 pounds of chicken . And when I called to speak to the manager regarding what was going on the owner son was making remarks regarding the family members are they sumo wrestlers. Wtf is that calling your customers sumo wrestlers . They even said next time order more food there won't never be a next time !! This place is horrible! These people are horrible in customer service we bought. 30 dollars in meat and chicken and got more than that 200 bs ! read more

Picked up food while staying across the street at Embassy Suites. Had the Korma entree (medium spice), and Beg Samosa, Basmati rice, and G Naan. Rice didn't have the garlic flavor I was expecting but all others are good. The Korma was tasty and medium was spiced enough. If you're ordering to-go and eating in your hotel, make sure to ask for a plastic knife. Service was super quick (10 mins) and the young gentleman taking the order had great recommendations. Been here multiple times, and the food is always very good. I think it's the best Indian in the area! My fiancé and I usually get the chicken tikka masala. He gets his " spicy" and it really is very spicy, which can sometimes be hard to find. Yeah he also taken family and friends and they love it too! Plus it appears to be family owned, which is a nice plus. The only downside is that when ordering delivery the spicy level can be a bit unpredictable. Sometimes a medium is hot, but manageable for me, sometimes it's unbearable. My fiancé has said the same about the spicy. It's never happened in restaurant though. She suggested we order an appetizer because it was going to be a wait. Our food came and as it was being served it was surprising to see how small the bowls were with approximately 6 to 7 small chunks of meat in each bowl of the chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. (2) PCs for each of us. We asked for the spice to be from mild to medium and there was no flavor of spice whatsoever. And because the bowls were so small we ordered another rice and another side dish that never came and asked for that order to be canceled. Plus, they forgot to prepare one of the dishes. We were waiting and waiting trying to be patient. Asked for the check and will never be back. Very Disappointing experience! Ugh. Still the worst indian food Ive ever had. Took my son to try the buffet, because I said Id give them a chance with the buffet... I wish I had not. The buffet was god awful. The flavors of everything were non existent except in 2 dishes... 1. The lentils and 2. The chickpeas. Also, theres no free deserts with this buffet. - Chicken Tikka Masala: God awful... beyond watery, no thicj creamyness, 0 flavor whatsoever, Not even salt. - Jalapeno Curry: Just why? The worst idea I can think of. Nothing but Whole jalapenos that are way overcooked, swimming in extremely watered down yellow curry sauce... smelled so terrible, and tasted just as bad. - Tandoori Chicken: Kinda hard to mess this up. It tasted fine, nothing extraordinary like other establishments offer, but was edible. Had no accompaniment of peppers and onions or lemons however.... huge downside. - Lentils: finally something edible. Well seasoned, and flavorful. - Chickpeas: Slightly undercooked which was offputting, but well seasoned. Mango Lassi: Good. Not the best, Not the worst. And if he did bring a different naan basket then the one he took away within 15 sec, instead of just sprinkling cilantro... then the 2nd basket was also incorrect and a plain naan, even though he said it was garlic... There were 2 other items offered, but they looked and smelled so gross, that I avoided them. All in all I wont return again. I gave them 3 tries, and its been a strike out each time. Why waste 12$ on an buffet where I can only eat 2 items when I could spend the same or less at an indian buffet down the street and be able to eat everything on the buffet... makes no sense. This is a small restaurant with a mom n pop vibe. I came for the lunch buffet and definitely felt like I was at a friend's house for lunch as I ate the homey, overall well prepared items. Just an FYI, the place is constantly packed and so food is always running out. However, they do replenish fairly often so just be patient and you will get the chance to try everything. Food is also located in a small space in the very back so it can backed up there between the employees and hungry customers. This is what I had that day: Mattar paneer: this was my least favorite. There were tons of peas and plenty of paneer, but the mediocre flavor and spices paled in comparison to the zing of the other dishes. Pakora: I was worried it'd be too greasy, but the oil was negligible, the pakora not too bready and flavorful with big veggie chunks. Goat curry: This classic was one of my favorites as it was flavorful and full of fall off the bone goat chunks. Just be careful not to get the sinewy parts, which comes with all goat curries. Veggie korma: I didn't like this at first, feeling that it was too bland, but later I found it light yet creamy, and chocked full of veggies. It's a very mellow dish, slightly sweetened from the natural flavor of the vegetables. It was a good compliment to the spicier, fragrant fish curry. Aloo Gobi: This is a pretty standard staple of Indian buffets. Seasoning on point, but doesn't quite stand out, which is usually the case. Chicken tikka masala: This dish had excellent masala sauce, which was a perfect balance of cream and tomato, but unfortunately the chicken breast pieces were dry, which ruined the dish for me. Fish curry: I usually don't like fish curries, but the seasoning and spices here were very fragrant and complimented the white fish very well. Tandoori chicken: Light grill flavor and very soft, but still a bit dry. It was overall pleasant though. Kheer: This had a strange taste, not like the usual cardamom or coconut or cream that I usually experience with these desserts. The consistency is also very thick, and the rice was almost a sticky kind of texture. I'm not sure what to think of this, to be honest. Chai tea: This unfortunately fell for me as well. It was more of a black tea flavor than spices, so I felt like I was drinking a black tea latte with an after taste of cinnamon. Overall, this is a pleasant place to go to for food. We were told this place was good by our Dr's office. So we headed over there right after my appt. We made it there about 40 minutes before their lunch closing at 2 pm ( they reopen at 5 pm) on weekdays. I'm not sure about the weekend schedule. We walked into a spotless eatery, and the gentleman explained that lunch was a buffet. I must admit, buffets are typically not my favorite, but we were already there, and we were given a strong positive review by someone whose opinion I trusted. I'm sure glad I went with the flow. The food was delicious, very savory, and just enough spice to please all taste buds. A wonderful assortment of Indian dishes, all fresh , all warm. The server was incredibly pleasant, especially since we finished about 15 minutes after the afternoon closing break. You can tell that it's family owned and operated . They cook with love and treat you like you're a guest in their home. The buffet is a great value, $25 per person, and you can taste everything. You can eat to your heart's content.
