4.5/5 vegetarian and vegan options available and clearly labeled: My friend and I were craving something warm and nourishing, so we decided to grab dinner at Nirvana, a local family owned Indian restaurant. It sits in the same plaza as the Starbucks on Huntington just off of second street in Arcadia. They've been open for at least a decade, but as of late, they can really use some more foot traffic. For such a solid spot, they really deserve some more community support! The food: I've already visited twice within the span of a few months, and both times I've really enjoyed everything we ordered. I ordered the Shahi Paneer, which was the staff's recommendation, with a mango lassi and side of rice and garlic naan, while my friend swears by their chicken biryani. We also got an appetizer to share, the mix vegetable pakora, which came with two sauces. My favorite was the appetizer, because it was perfectly crispy and not overwhelmingly greasy. The Shahi Paneer was creamy and naturally sweetened, which paired well with the herbs in the garlic naan. Nirvana's food has been consistently delicious, and everything was flavorful, without being too salty. The service: Honestly, the first time I was here, we arrived a little later than usual (~7:30 pm, they close at 9), and it felt like they might had something they were rushing to, because we were hustled out of the restaurant. But, I'm so glad we decided to come back (honestly the food is really enticing), because this second time around was such a pleasant dining experience. Our wait staff, Harman, was incredibly attentive, super friendly, and hilarious. We were joking with her our entire dinner. I asked them to make my main extra mild (I know, I'm a pleb), and she really communicated this request to the kitchen, despite some playful teasing, because everything was really well seasoned and not spicy like I asked. After we finished eating, they even kindly offered dessert on the house. We struggled to make up our minds so we asked for rice pudding before deciding on the pistachio ice cream, but they end up bringing out a serving of each and treating us to both desserts, which was such a nice gesture. If you're not a huge fan of sweets, the rice pudding is a little milder and not too sweet, but if you want to enjoy a little indulgence, their ice cream was seriously fantastic. It was a sweet way (no pun intended) to end our night. Everything else: [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant smells of light incense, and has a couple of televisions at the corner of the rooms that were showing the World Cup games.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is easy and plentiful. Overall, Nirvana has been added to my list of one of my favorite restaurants in the SGV, and certainly my preferred Indian spot over some others nearby. If you're ever in this side of town or are looking for a tasty and warm meal, I'd definitely recommend stopping by. Their menu has meat, vegetarian, and vegan options, so it'll likely have something for everyone.

Solid Indian restaurant that serves a weekday buffet. The menu is extensive and features lots of classic Indian dishes. The quality is very good and comes with lots of chunks of meat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is clean and well decorated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff are very friendly and helpful.

I've driven by here for years and never popped in. I was very impressed. Great food great prices will definitely come back again.

    Chicken korma, Chicken Biryani

Been here a couple of times now food is always fire and fresh staff is super attentive and nice last time we came in 20 minutes before closing and they were still nice enough to let us sit and eat and treated us very well

Chicken briyani, saag chicken, vegetable korma, garlic and plain naan

Great place to enjoy some flavorful Indian cuisine. We came here on the Tues night ordering our usual favorites. The briyani did not disappoint. The bell pepper was a nice touch to this curry dish. Owners were very kind and check up on us frequently. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant is clean, parking is ample.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will definitely come back for second.

I saw a sign saying lunch buffet while driving by today.

Will the buffet be back for lunch?

    Not until Covid is over

Is there any curry or dish thats gluten free?

My sister is gluten free and she says Indian food is mostly gluten free. She always has the curries. And tandoori chicken and rice. The breads of course are not gluten free

The classics we always order: butter chicken (rich, creamy, a little sweet), fish korma (coconutty and mellow), and lamb vindaloo (tangy and spicy). This visit, our waiter put us onto the lamb josh rogan and wow, so glad we listened. It's got that same tangy kick as the vindaloo but comes with stewed veggies that soak up all the sauce. Also got the chicken lollipops and fried fish appetizer with chutney on the side, perfect for sharing at the start of the meal And can't forget the pani puri, always a must. Service was quick and attentive, staff were genuinely helpful recommending new dishes, and the place was clean. We always end up browsing the little grocery store after and love finding new snacks. We usually order take out, but it was so nice enjoying it at the restaurant and seeing a small business continue to thrive!

Service: Service was pretty good when I patronized the shop. Amy and Mr. Singh (Head chef) was friendly, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Food didn't take long to be made. What's great about this place also is that you can sample as many curries you like. Food Of Choice: 1) Fish Burger Combo ($5.99 +tax): Deal was economic and good. It came with ridge cut potato chips and a can soda. The ingredients in the fish burger was quite good. Loved the house made mayo, cheese, and lettuce. The only complaint is probably they could used iceburg lettuce for some texture. As for the fish I was expecting a filet, but it was three pieces of lightly fried fish. The interior of the fish was quite tender. Curry Time For Thought: Wouldn't mind coming back try other curries on their menu.

It's simple, unassuming, restaurant attached to a grocery store, who knew. Went in, stomach was hurting from the previous day but as soon as I had it, I was happy. Also, the Chicken Tikka Masala gravy, absolutely fell in love with it. There was a place in Fullerton that I used to go to, Curry Hut, and I would get the same thing over and over again. Chicken Tikka Masala and Goat Curry, it reminded me of that. I went to an Indian restaurant recently, "All India Cafe," and I was not happy. I still need to leave them a review but the flavors were dulled down and I look at the reviews and people love it "All India Cafe." I'm going to assume something but "All India Cafe" probably caters to local tastes. I like this place because I can taste the intensity of the flavors, this place is called India Food & Spices and they don't shy away from the flavor. That's what I wanted, and that's what I got. Really nice service, feels very inviting. The guy asked if I wanted the sauce on the rice and I said "no," but that was a mistake. If he asks, say "yes." They served it on paper plates and some of the sauces get absorbed into the plate but I kept trying to squeeze it back out for more. So I had the 2 entree combo, (Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Curry, Rice, and Chapati). Chicken Tikka Masala Very very flavorful sauce, big pieces of chicken but chicken little on the dry side. Not atypical from Indian cuisine to have dry chicken in chicken tikka masala but I sometimes would like a choice of dark meat than white meat? Can't get enough of that sauce though. Creamy, rich, blend of spices, like a creamy tomato bisque with a lot of seasoning. Goat Curry Meat falling off the bone and flavorful sauce, some pieces were extra bony but not atypical of Indian food. Think of a beef texture with a little more gamy taste. Absolutely wonderful. Rice It's not a biryani but it's colored with a small tinge of yellow. Standard rice, can't complain. Chapati Tasted good from what I remembered, also pretty standard. I don't know how anyone could mess this up but flavorful and satisfying like a slightly puffed up tortilla. Surprisingly though, I do notice naan differences at various Indian places. Papadam I took one bite and it was bursting with tasty delight. Crispy and sprinkles of what looks like cumin seeds throughout. Side of yogurt It was tart, and acted like a palate cleanser for me, I would dip some of the chapati and papadam every so often into it. Pickled onion chutney There were slices of connected onions that were pickled. I didn't hate it but I wasn't a huge fan. There was a lot of it, I didn't finish it. This place was great, you can tell from the crowd, it feels and taste authentic. I feel like other Indian restaurants dilute the flavors to match the local tastes. Or sometimes I try to compare their buffet curries with their al la carte and it sometimes feels lessened. I will need to try this place several more times but so far they got a return customer.
