    Nisi Burger and fries
    Pramit M.

We live on Roosevelt Island and visited this restaurant earlier today--totally impressed by the revamped menu! The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and easily on par with high-end restaurants. We ordered the Nisi burger, beet salad, and pasta. The beet salad presentation (as you'll see in the photos) was artfully done. The burger was juicy, the fries perfectly crisp, and the pasta--freshly made--was better than what I've had at many Italian spots. We'll definitely be back to try the breakfast/brunch menu, which looked fantastic. Service was ok, albeit on the less attentive side, but the live band on Saturday evening added a lively, welcoming vibe. Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood--I'm happy to have this spot close to home!

Was craving classic american food and found this place! Would say it's not the cleanest restaurant, but the food was solid. Everything hit the spot and was seasoned well. The portions were the best part because they were large and filled me up! Would recommend if you want something trustworthy! Service was also great. They checked on us and filled our water consistently.

The chicken platter was with pita bread, salad, and rice was delicious. The service was ok, but the ambiance was great. We would have sat outdoors if there was any tables available

Cute restaurant on Roosevelt Island. Ambience is comfortable, great music, nice staff and great food. You can take the AirTram over to the island which I recommend and roam around. Croque mousier was fantastic and the pancakes were great.

Menu has been changed - I was really looking forward to an egg white omelette with avocado and tomato in it and they weren't able to make that. I settled on an acai bowl which was ridiculous. A few pieces of acai ice chips, next to a half a plate of granola. I have had better acai bowls at the airport in La Guardia. I understand the previous menu was perhaps too much, but slimming it down, raising the prices, and not being accommodating to a vegetarian with high cholesterol is not it ... we probably will just take the tram or ferry to a regular diner from now on.

Gem of a restaurant on Roosevelt Island. Stopped in for brunch on a Saturday and didn't have any issues getting a table. The pancakes with fresh fruit were absolutely divine - so fluffy and delicious, and tons of fresh fruit. The buffalo chicken sandwich my friend had was also phenomenal and she wouldn't stop raving about it. Very affordable and delicious food - glad we stopped in.

We learned that earlier this month, Nisi got a new chef and the menu is all different. There are separate menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So it's not diner style anymore, with a fancier menu. We ate dinner. Salmon tartare was excellent. Miso coconut pappardelle was good, steak was so-so. Crispy Brussels were crispy, as expected and not oily or too salty. Service is excellent. I think 4 or 5 different people came to ask us how things were. It's a nice place to sit and eat and spacious for the island.

I had brunch here when i was staying with a friend. Such a nice place with delicious home-cooked food! The coffee i tried was really good as well. I also really like the homey feel of the place. Service was a bit slow, but not too bad.

Roosevelt Island is where I grew up so I hold this place near and dear in my heart, and even though it has changed incredibly since I moved I always love to go back and visit to see what is still the same. When you walk inside Nisi, it gives you a diner kind of vibe but they have a lot of options for seating. If you like to be inside but with a view or rather spend it outside in the sun they have you covered. There is also a bar inside the restaurant and I would imagine it looks delightful at night because of all the light fixtures I saw throughout the place. My server was very nice, she had a very warm smile, and an extremely welcoming vibe to her. I came in for breakfast, I was on the way to a Mets baseball game so I didn't have much time to sit long. I had an iced coffee with a bagel and scrambled eggs, the food was fine I don't know many places that can drop the ball on a bagel lol but I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the area.

I highly recommend my favorite restaurant on Roosevelt Island, Nisi Kitchen, to cater your event at your chosen location as well as to dine in at their attractive casual restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Because of my consistently positive experience dining in the restaurant for the six years I have been living on the island, I chose Nisi to cater my wedding in the rooftop resident lounge of my apartment building on June 28th, 2025. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Nisi provided excellent service, from set-up at the beginning involving the addition of tables and chairs, tablecloths, plates, and silverware which they procured, incorporating some decorations I provided, excellent food and beverages of my choice, and a bar tender and server for the entire 4 hours of the event, as well as additional staff for clean-up after the event, leaving the room in pristine condition. I received excellent feedback about the food from my guests. What I especially loved was our ability to choose several different entrees and other food items rather than being limited to only a few choices people usually have at weddings. The service of the Nisi staff was efficient and very pleasant, as has been my experience over the years. And all this incredible quality food and service was at a very reasonable price. Check them out!

We rode the tram over to Roosevelt Island as a first time experience. We thought we would have dinner here and Nisi sounded like a good choice. The food was decent (salmon cooked very well - see pics) but the service is poor. We sat at an outdoor table by the entrance and the employee who first greeted us brought water & menus, then proceeded to chat it up with friends at another table. We waited far too long without even getting drinks. We got up to leave and the guy came over to convince us to stay. He then sent a female server out to us. She took our orders and the service was okay until we were finished and waited far too long for the check and for a box for leftovers. I had to go inside to the register for this. I would not come back because of this. Truthfully, I don't have another reason to visit Roosevelt Island anyway.

One of my first times on the island, and NISI stuck out to me with their unique glass dome infrastructure. My friend and I went on a Thursday night, and were seated right away. Ambiance was very comfortable and casual. They had a very expensive menu, which made it very easy to agree on where to eat. I got the signature nisi burger, which contained angus beef, ham, fried onion ring, onions, and nisi sauce, alongside deluxe fries. My friend chose the lobster ravioli with chicken and rice soup. Both were delicious but and both were large enough portions that we had to take leftovers home. The staff was attentive and friendly, and let us take our time to talk and catch up. On top of that, the prices were very reasonable. I'm happy to say that i can count on nisi to provide a place with great atmosphere and affordable meals without compromising quality of food.

Looking for a dinner/lunch spot while you're on Roosevelt Island? Then you definitely need to try Nisi! It is unexpectedly delicious and fairly reasonable on the price and portion size.

Yesterday, along with a bunch of others, I braved the smog (blame Canada) to go to this Algerian…read moreseafood place. It was pretty quiet inside, outside of the TV playing somewhat loud highlights from the World Cup on loop (why,) with the servers and staff being helpful and friendly. In comparison to the other pick-your-own seafood spots like AbuQir or Hamido, the spices are a tad lighter here, being almost closer to Astoria Seafood, minus the olive oil. I didn't mind, though, as the fish was all fresh and perfectly prepared. To drink, our table stuck with water, though there are a few mocktails and some sodas, including some Algerian ones. They put down some simple bread with a bit of garlic and herbs, which was refilled. For non-seafood dishes, we had a few. The first was the $8 Hmiss, or Hammis, a dip made with roasted pepper, tomato, and garlic sautéed in olive oil. The warm dish was earthy and garlicky, and went perfectly with the bread, with the flavor reminding me of a warmer version of some Turkish eggplant dips. There was also the Peasant Salad for $12, with cucumber, tomato, red onion, and Kalamata olives topped with feta, oregano, and dill. If you're familiar at all with Horiatiki/Village salad, it's basically the same thing, though with crumbled feta instead of a block, and it was refreshing and tasty. Finally, we eventually got an $8 side order of Basil Garlic Mashed Potatoes, which were decent. The first seafood to arrive at the table was the $16.99 Algerian Sardines, which consisted of sardines from Morocco with a spice mixture. The man in front recommended them fried, and the portion was nice, and the flavor was excellent. The fish was fried perfectly, with the bones fried enough that the entirety of it could be eaten. This was delicious, and one of the highlights of the meal. As we loved these sardines, we eventually got a small order of the other option, the "Marinated Sardines" from Spain. These were a bit more expensive by weight, being $10.56 for 0.48 pounds, but by comparison, these were much flatter and larger. The half pound consisted of three large pieces, which were broken down and divided among the group. While I slightly preferred the spices from the Algerian version, I liked the texture of these more, as they were more meaty. I don't think you can go wrong with either, as both were excellent. There was also one pound of Mussels for $17.99, which was available in one of two cooking preparations, Moules Marinière or a version with tomato sauce, herbs, and feta. I went with the latter, and they were excellent, with all of the mussels being open. The feta added a unique, slightly salty touch, with the broth being delicious. They had brought us out some extra bread, and we made good use of it. If I were here alone, I might have this along with some sardines and leave very happy. We also got two whole fish, which were both ordered grilled and butterflied. First was the Dorado, or Orata, for $29.24 for 1.54 pounds. As is typical for this fish, it was delicate and light, but had plenty of flavor. The other was the American Red Snapper, which was a bit more expensive at $37.90 for 1.58 pounds. By comparison, this fish was a lot thicker and therefore, a bit more flavorful. We enjoyed both, with a slight preference going towards the cheaper fish for most outside of me and one other. Another highlight was the Scallops for $37.23 for 0.98 pounds, which came out to 14 large pieces. As recommended, we got these sautéed, with the scallops coming in a delicious garlicky juice on the bottom with plenty of other herbs. The scallops were tender while staying plump, though I slightly preferred the more caramelized tops at AbuQir, with these having a more uniform texture. The rest of the people liked what I couldn't eat, the $24.99 Octopus for around half a pound. The octopus came out pre-cut, which made splitting it very easy. I can't comment much on the flavor or saltiness as some other reviewers brought up, or else I'd be in the hospital right now post-anaphylaxis, but people liked it a lot. If you don't want to bother with the lines or crowds at the other fish spots, I would highly recommend going here. The fish is fresh, perfectly prepared, and seasoned just enough to highlight the natural flavors. I would go back.

This restaurant is similar to Astoria Seafood, Hamido, & Sabry's where you place your order at the seafood counter first (including sides & drink) and then sit. Study the menu online, because the sides menu isn't posted anywhere except for the laminated sheet that the fishmonger hands you, waiting for your decision. The restaurant has about 20 seats (tables for 2 or 4) & more set up on the sidewalk. I got: $30.00 1/2lb Scallops (8 pieces) $18.54 1/2lb Tiger Shrimp (grilled, 8 pieces) $6.99 Side of Beets $6.99 Side of Babaganoush $2.99 1 medium 20fl oz. Poland Spring Water I was 1 of 2 early diners at the restaurant & everything came out pretty fast. The small cut up beets were delicious! There were big chunks of garlic marinated with it. Not a huge fan of Babaganoush, but wanted to try this there and it was very creamy & good too (no real strong flavor, a healthy drizzle of olive oil on top). IDK if the sides have been this size pre-NYTimes, but they are extremely small (6" diameter plate) for $6.99. There is lots of olive oil drizzle on top of things, take note if you're limiting oil. The bread that came with it was either overcooked - or it might have been the typical style? It was EXTREMELY leathery & almost dark tan pita-cracker like. I ate it with the meal but got extremely tired of chewing. Not sure if you can ask for free refills of bread. A google search for "Egyptian bread" shows some decent Soft puffy pita. There was a case with drinks: soda, mango juice, mediterranean fruit juice, maybe beer? The seafood was VERY fresh. Scallops large, very Lightly seasoned with a reddish seasoning. Was just slightly underdone for me but still good. The Tiger Shrimp was Excellent & cooked perfectly. It comes sitting on top of a pool of oil and seasonings/parsley, but the flavor wasn't strong enough for me to make out. I'm not sure what Egyptian seasoning for seafood is or should taste like; it wasn't very noticeable on the items that I ordered. Seems like the freshness of all the dishes were the focus. Staff is nice & attentive. The owner was at the table next to me putting in weekend orders. Chatted with him about a new café on the block. A few solo diners come in casually & seemed familiar with the place. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't go back because of the price point.

It's a little overwhelming because there is definitely a lot of seafood to choose from. The fish selection looks fresh but they do have some previously frozen seafood like large prawns and lobster tails. They have the names of everything and the price per pound posted which can be a little intimidating because it's a bit expensive. We ordered a grilled branzino and asked for the large tiger shrimp. The staff behind the counter said it would be the ones without the head but when long at the sign, it said head on tiger shrimp so I was a little confused but we just went with it because we assumed the staff knew what they were talking about. We did also get the head-on large prawns. We asked for everything to be grilled and confirmed that they don't use butter or cheese or cream on anything and then we went upstairs to get a table. Upstairs by the window is nice because you can people watch on a good day. We asked the staff member if there were any butter or cream or cheese in the mezza or rice and she said no, so we proceeded to order those and also asked about the soup of the day. She told us it was a shrimp and corn soup and that sounded good so we ordered that as well. The mezza came and the babaganoush and moussaka were good. The lemon potatos were fine but other places have made it better. The tahini was tahini and nothing special. The soup came and we took a sip and it tasted like cream so we were confused because the staff member didn't mention cream when she was taking about it. We asked about it when another staff member came by to drop off the rice. The original staff member who helped us came back over and we asked her if there was cream in the soup. She told us that yes because it's a chowder and the chowder has dairy and told us that we ordered the soup. I'm not denying that we ordered it. My issue is that we specifically asked about avoiding dairy in other food menu items and she didn't even stop to mention that hey the soup of the day that you want is a shrimp and corn chowder and has dairy. She took it back but I felt like we were inconveniencing her because of her tone. The mains arrived shortly after. The head-on prawns came and then the branzino. The large head-on prawns were overcooked and a little rubbery. The branzino was a touch too lemony but that was probably my fault for squeezing lemon over it. The fish was firm and smooth. There wasn't a lot of flavor on either dish. By this time, our table is pretty full and one of the staff members came by with the tiger shrimp and he more or less just stared at the full table and then plopped the plate down right next to my husband's phone. We barely even had time to move plates around to clean up space for him, but I feel like they should have definitely looked a little harder because one of our plates was just full of bones and shells and could have been taken away which would have made room for the shrimp. They were also over cooked and rubbery. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us once. At the end of the meal, I used my own hand sanitizing wipes and was a little puzzled that they don't give any to customers. We got the bill and were a little peeved that they charged us $3 to butterfly the branzino. We weren't told about that and we didn't particularly ask for them to butterfly it. There's individual hand wipes by the stairs and it's odd that staff don't bring them to you once you're ready to pay. Are customers expected to walk around with dirty hands to go grab the wipe by the stairs? It's definitely a one time experience and overall, I wouldn't recommend it for the poor service and seafood being overcooked and underwhelming.

I tried my friend's green beans which were not bad, but could use more flavor. He got something that he's unsure of, seasoned beef perhaps, and it was decidedly not good. I wish I knew what it was so I know not to get it....

The atmosphere is effortlessly comfortable -- the kind of place where you just know everything coming out of the kitchen will be fresh. And it was. We started with an assortment of traditional spreads: taramosalata, tzatziki, tyrokafteri, skordalia, and melitzanosalata, all served with warm, pillowy pita. Each one was vibrant and flavorful -- perfect for sharing (or not). Then came the feast: marinated and grilled squid, swordfish steak, red snapper, lamb chops, crispy potatoes, and more sides than we could reasonably justify ordering... but absolutely did anyway. Our waiter thoughtfully asked if we had any allergies. By the end of the meal -- slightly comatose, blissfully full, and having completely lost track of time -- we realized the only thing we might be allergic to is work. Bahari isn't just lunch -- it's an escape.

The whole vibe felt warm and made it a really nice family dinner. My grandma and mom both seemed happy and enjoyed everything, which honestly mattered most. We ordered two Greek salads (definitely could've gotten away with just one -- they're huge and very shareable). We also had the Mediterranean spreads: tzatziki, eggplant, and a spicy spread. Everything was solid and great for sharing. We also got grilled octopus as an appetizer -- super tender and really well done. For my main, I had the grilled deboned red snapper -- absolutely delicious. It came with a creamy lemon sauce on the side that you can pour over the fish, plus oregano fries and grilled vegetables. The veggies were amazing, especially the grilled onions that just melted in your mouth. We also ordered takeout: kefte kebab with fries, which was maybe smaller portion but it was good flavor. For dessert we had a baklava float (I think that was the name) with coffees to finish. Very happy with the whole meal overall. Drinks at the bar beforehand were also a highlight -- sangria and a gin, lavender, elderflower, cucumber cocktail that my grandma actually loved.

Anassa - 10/10 Greek Dining Experience…read more My best friend and I dined at Anassa, and oh. my. God. This Greek restaurant is absolutely phenomenal. From the moment we arrived, the service was top-tier above and beyond. Parking tip: Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but there's a two-hour MPG Parking Garage directly across the street. You grab a ticket there, and once you're done dining, the restaurant signs it parking is fully accommodated as long as it's within two hours. Super convenient. Let's talk appetizers because they STOLE the show. They start you off with table bread and hummus, and let me say this: I am not a hummus person, but this hummus? It absolutely hit the spot. Even if you don't like hummus, try it. We ordered the Mediterranean spread Tzatziki - fresh and delicious Tirokafteri (spicy feta) - PHENOMENAL, easily a standout Eggplant - very bland; I'd skip this unless you truly love eggplant Still, one miss didn't take away from the experience at all. Saganaki Cheese - PLEASE get this. Fried Greek Gruyère cheese served sizzling in a skillet with honey and lemon. This dish will knock you off your feet. Don't debate it just order it. You're welcome. Classic Greek Salad (no lettuce) Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, olives, and feta fresh, flavorful, and perfect. We got extra dressing, which took it to the next level. Entrées: I ordered the Kefta Kebab (lamb) served with oregano fries, tzatziki, pita absolutely delicious. The pita bread alone deserves a mention. My friend had the lobster ravioli, and she said it was amazing. Honestly, the appetizers were so indulgent that we could barely get through our entrées but we still powered through and took leftovers home. Dessert: Orange cake with Greek yogurt and vanilla ice cream. Yes. Just yes. Final thoughts: Anassa is a 10 out of 10. Whether you're celebrating a birthday, planning a romantic night, or just catching up with friends, this place delivers. The music isn't overwhelming, the service is exceptional, and the food is unforgettable. Highly, highly recommend!

I'm so glad we did. It was wonderful. Some of the best greek food i've ever had. The service was lovely. Thank you to Daniel. My friends and I ordered a bunch of stuff on the menu and it was absolutely wonderful. There is also very delicious complementary dessert. It is a small restaurant so it's very tight. Everyone is kind of crushed together. The food is a bit on the expensive side but absolutely worth it. I can't wait to come back one day. Amazing experience with wonderful food and service!

The fried anchovies arrived absolutely drenched in oil, it honestly seemed like it hadn't been properly drained or allowed to sit to let the excess oil run off. The side of potatoes we got was the same story. Drenched in oil. The GRILLED (not fried) fish was even more disappointing. It came sitting in literally A PUDDLE of oil, which completely took away from what should have been a fresh, relatively light fish meal. There were quite a few bones also on the fish. On top of that, our waiter disappeared without notice, and when we were finally ready to pay, we had to wait a long time just to get the check and settle the bill. The fish itself was fresh, but unfortunately, the overall experience did not justify the price or the wait. After waiting over two hours, I expected much better.
