Another great brunch at Ugly Mug. How do they get those fries perfect every time? I love the breakfast wraps and the chicken and waffles. The hubs loves the pimento cheese and bacon. This is absolutely my new favorite place to hang out. Without a doubt the very best coffee that I've had in an exceptionally long time and that's a lot coming from a relocated New Yorker! The staff are incredibly friendly and very responsive and always greet you with a warm smile. The avocado toast is delicious and just the perfect snack to help push me through my day. Their breakfast sandwiches have become a regular weekend enjoyment for me and my friends after our morning run or a work out at the gym and I've now convinced my boss to make it a stop on our prospecting workdays as it is busy, but never too loud to have an important conversation. This is my favorite coffee and breakfast/lunch place in Garner. They have an awesome variety of coffee drinks which they offer cold or hot. My personal favorite food to get here are their waffles. They are fluffy and have a delicious sugar crunch. Perfect balance of sweet and savory! They offer them in a sampler that includes eggs and sausages and/or bacon. My new favorite menu item is their wafflewich which is, you guessed it, a delicious breakfast sandwich made with waffles, eggs, cheddar cheese and your choice of sausage or bacon. If you want two (bc, seriously, one is not enough) you can get one of each. If you don't like waffles, they offer breakfast tacos, and regular sandwiches. The first time I was here I ordered the yogurt and granola parfait. The vanilla yogurt they used, paired with honey, made this particular menu item too sweet for me. Their lunch choices ("Mugwiches") are also good. My son has ordered their version of a BLT and he said it was delicious. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is quick. If we lived closer, I would come here several times a week! read more

I went to Ugly Mug this week for the first time! My family and I actually went to Ugly Mug per a local patron's recommendation, and I was super excited to get in and see what the fuss was about! We arrived, and the local coffee shop was buzzing with people and we placed our order and sat pretty quickly. Drinks came up immediately and I was pleased with my frozen sticky toffee drink, and I couldn't wait for the food! The food came out about 5 minutes later, very quick! This is where it begins to get hairy: there were three ladies behind the barista counter, and all three of them acknowledged the food was there but all three continued to make drinks and do other various things behind the counter. Two looked particularly busy, but one was fiddling with what appeared to be a phone and other things underneath the counter. I understand if there's an order to how things are done, but nobody wants to watch their piping hot food sit behind the counter for 7+ minutes (yes, I timed it). The only reason they even brought our food is because my dad got up to ask if that was our order behind the counter. My biscuit was completely cold, and I was going to send my plate back, but what's the point if they are just going to throw it away/let the new food sit in the window for another 7 minutes? I decided to order a little more food, hopeful that the experience might be different. I stood in line, waiting for the cashier to greet me/ask if I wanted to order but instead we had a staring contest... is it typical Ugly Mug customer service to not ask to take my order? I know you do ask customers how they are/if they'd like to order/etc because a man came in after me and all three women piped up to greet him and hastily take his order. My food actually came to me not too long after it left the kitchen this time and I was grateful because it was delicious and HOT! :) I'm saying all this to say there are insane inconsistencies in service here. It was my first time and I had pretty awful service, despite the food being good. I don't like to jump to conclusions and say I was treated differently because of how I look, but when other people receive their food ASAP and are greeted/acknowledged when ordering food, it seems like my appearance might have something to do with it. My money spends the same way as anyone else's does! Not sure if I'll be back because while those fries were stellar and unique, the service was selective and cold. read more

I wanted to love this place: it has an awesome industrial vibe, the service is friendly, the seating options are nice, and it felt clean and inviting. Unfortunately, I had to knock off 2 stars for the food. The menu looked super creative and fun, but the quality of the food was sub-par. Flavors were somewhat bland and the some of the ingredient combinations just didn't work. Ordinarily, I would have only taken off 1 star for sub-par food at a place where coffee is the main event and food is just an added bonus...but in this case, the food also took a VERY long time to come out. It was not crowded and we were the only ones in line, and yet our food took nearly 30 minutes to come out. That's unacceptable for a quick bite kind of place. Now, onto something more positive: the coffees are fantastic. I would go back for drinks, but not for food. read more

The atmosphere was always cozy and warm every time I entered. Customer service was top of notch especially on this good day because my issue was finally resolved. I had my food ordered online to be delivered a few weeks ago. There were some burps. The food was cold by the time it was delivered. The apple turnovers were moldy that ended up in trash. I called - no one answered. Email was the way to get their attention and have this issue addressed, finally at last. They said to come to the cafe and get fresh apple turnovers which I did today. I've learned that their apple turnovers (not sure about other pastries) were not homemade. They tasted good but definitely not made from scratch. Umm... from BJ's? They certainly know how to jack up their prices. I'd visit Videri's in Raleigh for better quality or Ocracoke Coffee Co for their fresh homemade deliciousness. Coyote Coffee Den in Penrose, CO for their fresh baked goods and breathtaking view of nature. Maybe I'll come back for a drink but not anytime soon for food. I'd recommend going inside to order instead of food/drink delivery. Get apple turnovers from BJ's instead. read more

Ugly Mug was anything but ugly! The decorations were unique and industrial but it still had a very comfortable and inviting atmosphere. It's tucked away - clearly for the locals. I got the iced white mocha with cold brew coffee instead of the espresso. I get this often pretty often at Starbucks and this one definitely shit on Starbucks, although a little more expensive than I would've liked, but you do get what you pay for. My friend got an iced caramel macchiato. I don't even like caramel and I thought it was yummy. He did think it was a little too sweet, but I don't really know what he expected getting a caramel drink. The staff was nice and seemed like they were having fun at work which made me smile. The music was on brand and matched the aesthetic very well. The furniture was quirky and comfortable, making for a great place to study. read more

We had a long hike and day at the park with our pups at Lake Benson and were delighted to find this gem for brunch. I had a frozen green tea latte w/ lavender and mango that was out of this world and super refreshing on a warm summer day. For my meal I had the ugly mug and bean sampler with the waffles which were heavenly and my hubby had the wafflewich as they were out of chicken biscuits. I definitely recommend upgrading the waffles to strawberries with whipped cream. The staff was so sweet to all of us including our pups outfitting them with pup cups. I have driven past this place so many times and never stopped.. until recently. We visited for breakfast and I had the mugwich breakfast sandwich and it was quite tasty.
