I'll be honest...No Thai may not be "authentic" but who cares? IT TASTES GOOD! (and food should taste good) . If you want a quick, satisfying meal that won't break the bank...go to No Thai. My hands down favorite is the POTATO CURRY. It changed my life. literally. This is the dish that made me apply to No Thai (and eventually work there and gain ~5lbs because I couldn't stop eating it..it's like crack). I'm so shocked to see this place only averaging 3 stars!? It's such a successful student run business and it's a hot spot for the hip AA asian kids... Foodwise, definitely flavorful, rich, and satisfying. I always get pad pak with chicken and weak sauce. Yes weak sauce, but it's just so good. I love watching them cook your food right in front of you. Even the brown sauce at the bottom is so good that I soak up all my rice in it and I'd eat that up. I would say, yes, it's a bit overpriced and it's not something you can nor should eat everyday for health reasons, but I like to think of this as my asian guilty pleasure place. read more

I don't understand the haters - I love this place. I go at least once a week. Is it the best, most authentic thai food? God no. But I don't have time for that. What I do want is fresh, flavorful food that's prepared quickly and is close to home and north campus. Bingo, we have a winner! I do occasionally get noodle dishes - my favorite is the Pad Seeyu, and I'll order the pad thai on occasion. They're decent - and the portions are a good size. However, my favorite thing to get is #8 Pad Pak. It's a day's worth of fresh veggies stir-fried with your protein of choice in a delicious - and I mean dang tasty - brown sauce. I normally get beef, but this is one place I would get tofu - it's well fried and nicely chewy, and it soaks up the sauces beautifully. They have a red curry on the menu, which is good - but they have a green curry, which is NOT on the menu, and it's better. I order that on the pad pak (mixed veggies) especially with shrimp. No Thai also has a few appetizers on the menu. The spring rolls are OK, the crab rangoon are great. They also have a new chicken curry dumpling and a satay, both of which I haven't tried. They do take-out and delivery, but plenty of people eat in as well, especially during the lunch rush. Whoever picks the tunes is a genius. And while No Thai doesn't offer wifi, the Biggby next door does, and the signal comes through just fine. read more

No Thai is a restaurant downtown that is popular for students. I'm not sure if it is what someone would say "authentic Thai food" but it tastes pretty good to me. My friend and I have a craving for it whenever we are near, which is pretty often. I like the Pad Thai noodles...and number two...I forget the name of it. I am always stuffed to the brim after I am done eating and highly satisfied. Its also quick and the staff is pretty nice too. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of seating. There are only four or five tables, and during meal times, it is pretty difficult to get a seat. Overall, I think its delicious and a fun place to go. read more

No Thai! is gross. It's not even good in a pinch. It's Thai in the way that Taco Bell is Mexican. What I mean to say is, it's not Thai food. Take its name literally. Everything is super-bland, and different dishes all taste like each other, and they simultaneously taste like nothing. There's not waiter service, you order, wait for your food, and take it and sit, if you can find a seat. It gets really busy in here, at their South U location, and there's not really room to sit when it's busy because it's so small. No Thai!? The name says it all - nothing was authentic about this place. We ordered 2 orders of chicken pad thai - one mild - one spicy - both tasted roughly the same and the chicken was so bad that it was inedible to be honest. The noodles were cooked perfectly though and saved the meal. We tried the Thai Tea next to the soda fountain - spoiler alert - we wound up scamming this place of an entire dollar because, as it turns out, the tea is 50 cents more than the soda, but this was never mentioned at the counter. My bad, The tea was really delicious though and I highly suggest giving it a try. The ambient music was late 90's R&B - why? SAY NO THANKS TO NO THAI!! Omg this place was horrible. It was my last meal in AA before I had to go catch my bus and I went here after we had just lost to Maryland on our last football game of the year. The place was pretty packed so I thought it would be good. I ordered pad thai with chicken and it took about ten minutes for my order to be ready. I brought it back to my friend's place, which was a 5 minute walk. I squeezed the lemon and mixed it and had my first bite. Good, not bad, I thought. But oh man, after each bite, the quality went down and it got worse! It was more like sweet and sour noodle than pad thai. It was not good at all. And I find it very hard to mess up on pad thai. There wasn't enough bean sprout and the noodle was soggy and super moist. The flavor was just not right. And it was a pretty small portion for $10?! I couldn't even finished, I stopped eating and threw it away about halfway threw. I felt terrible wasting food but it was just THAT BAD. AVOID! read more

That's so weird that this hasn't been getting better reviews. I love No Thai...but then again, I haven't eaten there in like 4 months. Have things been hit THAT hard by Barak and the economy that they are scrimping on the good stuff? Instead of being named No Thai, it should be Faux Thai. Either way, I'm think the noodles are super duper yummy. The drunken noodles are what I get drunk cravings for! I worked right down the road & would visit here at least once a week for drunken noodles & crab wontons. The brown sweet/spicy sauce was awesome with the wide noodles. Just the thought makes my mouth water. I also have had the pad thai and fried rice here, and each time have been delighted by the taste. They DO overdo the spices though. I have an iron tongue and can eat hot peppers with the best of them, but I find myself ordering mild here. One time my bf had to send the stuff back because it literally looked like a cup of hot chili peppers had been mixed into the rice. Yeeeowch. Order you stuff extra mild for you sensitive eaters. The prices are ok for the portions, but generally I like to spend less than $10 for lunch. Another bad thing is the seating- there isn't any. You have to wait longer for your table than your food. To tell you the truth, No Thai! does not really serve thai food at all. Sure, you can get some Pad Thai or Drunken Noodles, but it really is just glorified chinese/ wok. With that being said, it is absolutely DELICIOUS! It is best to eat in the restaurant (they usually give you more and it is better hot). If you have the option, dine it rather than delivery. It became a staple while at Michigan and really never let me down. I was visiting AA and came here one night really excited for Thai food...and then I ended up throwing most of it away. This was absolutely the worst Thai food I've ever had - and having lived in NYC and CA, I think I have a pretty good idea of good, authentic Thai food. I got pad see ew with tofu - it was incredibly greasy, the tofu was so fried that it was more grease than tofu, almost no vegetables, and the worst part that the noodles were like glorified linguini noodles (not at all the broad noodles in authentic pad see ew). I'm honestly not sure how this place has become so popular in the area. Even with the lack of good Thai places in AA (as far as a few searches led me to believe), I would never come here again. read more

The greatest thing about No Thai! is that it's a student-run business. I'm happy for the success of this fellow Asian American. When I was at umich a bunch of friends were in the same crew with the owner and a ton of people used to work there. The way that you order is quite simple & convenient -- you choose the level of spice (from weak sauce to death touch), your dish, and your meat (or tofu). I went back recently on my trip to ann arbor and was disappointed by my medium tofu pad thai. I suppose it's not bad for college fare... but the flavor was a little lacking. I also had big chunks of egg in my last to go order which meant to me that it wasn't totally prepared as well. It's also very expensive for the amount of pad thai that you get ($9), which is why I rarely came here as a student. I like the business and want it to remain open... it's the most accessible Thai restaurant, but I'd definitely like a little more flavor. read more

My parents came to town and were craving Thai food so eventually we ended up here. We wanted to go to a more traditional "sit-down" style restaurant but nothing was open at 4pm on a Saturday. No Thai! was 1). Thai food and 2). Open so we decided to give it a try. The girl who took our order was not very friendly but sadly I don't expect good service these days so it didn't affect me one way or the other. The food was tasty but quite oily (likely a cause and effect relationship). My dad loves spicy food and was disappointed with the spice level even though he ordered the spiciest option. This place is super popular but I don't quite get the hype. It's about $10 for most of their meals. A fair price but a tad expensive for how much food you get. They cook your order really fast which is great if you need a takeout option. However, they've got my order wrong before and food is often really greasy. I got delivery from here tonight with my brother. He loves this place since they deliver and it's decent Thai food so I decided to give it a shot. We had the Pad Thai with Shrimp and Pad Seeyu with Chicken. While I enjoyed the quick delivery and the noodles weren't bad, having been spoiled with amazing Thai food, I was left unsatisfied. Both dishes needed more flavoring. The Pad Seeyu, in particular, was too oily and underseasoned. The broccoli was also a bit overcooked. If you're a student at Michigan, you can't say no to No Thai. This place is usually packed, but their service is still pretty fast. While I have to admit the food is pretty greasy and certainly not the best for my body, it's so delicious that I always keep coming back. No Thai is a campus favorite and one of the first places I show my friends when they visit from out of town. The curries are pretty popular and known to be more filling, but my favorites have always been the Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai here. An additional bonus for the hungry college student: the portion sizes are huuuge. If I'm starving, I might finish an entire dish, but No Thai can usually last me two meals. Like most Thai restaurants, every dish can be personalized and customers can choose the type of protein to add and the spice level (weak sauce is a good option if you can't handle anything spicy like me! One of the best things that happened senior year of college was that a great Thai quick serve spot opened up down the street from our house. Every time I go back for a football game I try to make a stop at No Thai, but I am only successful once or twice a season. This past weekend Erica and I were driving through town during lunch time so I requested a quick thai meal at my favorite spot. Four years later I am not surprised that they still serve one of the best noodle dishes I have ever had. My go to is the drunken noodles, but the pad siew or pad thai are both delicious. If you like it spicy they can help you, as I only go with medium spice and still sweat while I eat. Whatever their magic formula is still working and I wish they could bring it to Chicago. Since 60% of my friends had worked here while we were in college, I will try my best not to be biased as well. Heck, I even tried to get a job there haha. Anyway, I would have to say No Thai is one of those places where even though you know you will be consuming more than your reccomended daily intake of calories in one meal, you can't help but go back for more. Service is quick and personally I like the fact that you get to pick your level of spicyness as well as having the option of picking chicken, beef, tofu, or extra veggies to go with your meal. Although, I do warn you not to get Dim Mak (spiciest level) if you have a weak stomach. I've attempted to various times to condition my stomach into digesting a yoga flame dish (2nd spiciest) but ended up paying back for it by spending quality time in the restroom. My favorite dishes include the No Thai Fried Rice, Drunken Noodles, and Pad Thai. Leftovers make for good drunk food too =) read more

It's like fast food Thai edition. It's good as comfort food, but no way can we call this any kind of gourmet Thai food. It's convenient, it's fast, it's pretty cheap considering the giant portions they give you. The seating is sparse, and I always dine in when I go. I bet they'd be even more convenient for carry out. I really like this place because it's pretty simple and easy. The prices are all around $9 and the dishes last me 2 meals (but most of my friends eat it for one) I like how you pick what base dish you want then you can choose what meat and what level of spice. It's pretty quick, even when the restaurant is busy. In my opinion it doesn't taste like actual Thai food, but I really like it still. No Thai is the Chipotle of Thai food. It's better than your average casual dining at a reasonable cost. Ive had most things here, but I prefer the pad seeyu, weak sauce heat, and with shrimp. It's one of my very favorite dishes that I can't wait to run to whenever I head to Ann arbor. It's fat noodles in a mushroom soy sauce with egg, broccoli and shrimp. I like more heat, but dont like too many of he chili seeds that come with higher heat dishes. The no Thai fried rice is also very good, as is the pad Thai. Let's get one thing out of the way before we get started. If you grew up in and/or studied abroad in Southeast Asia and are trying to relieve those memories through eating, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for the Thai equivalent of Chipotle (read: obscene portions, tasty but not authentic) then you're absolutely in the right place. The food is always fresh and always hot. There are different spice levels, and if you're scared by the skull and cross bones over the hottest level, then you should probably stay away from the highest heat level. Do you know how sometimes you crave Americanized chinese food even though you are a bit hesitant to admit it? That orange chicken from Panda, or general tso's chicken from Happy Wok? Well, sometimes I have that type of craving, but for some greasy Americanized Thai food and No Thai is the place to go. It's a bit greasy, but good when you get a cook who knows what he/she is doing. I've been here too many times to count during my undergrad years, so I've had my fair share of well made entrees as well as very very bad to the point that I had to take my entree home and re-season and re-cook it in order to salvage it. Good things to get here would be shrimp pad thai, beef potato curry, beef pad see ew, beef drunken noodles, shrimp pad thai curry, & chicken curry fried rice. If you do get a bad cook and your entree comes out not too great tasting, then just add some soy sauce and sriracha! read more

No Thai opened when I was a wee undergrad, and I can proudly say that I've been eating at No Thai for over 7 years! I adore this place, and find myself craving it so often that I'm glad I don't live even within a 50 miles radius of it. Is it the most authentic thai food you'll find in the area? No. But it is ALWAYS made fresh, ALWAYS just incredibly flavorful (I simply cannot put into words just HOW flavorful and amazing this food is), and ALWAYS fast. Some of my favorites are: - Curry fried rice - Pad thai curry - Basically anything with their tofu - it is excellent. Dreamy thai. This is one of the best *fast asian* restaurants you will visit anywhere in the country. Now that I have moved away from UMich, I dream about this place. Great thai-style fast food. This place is great for quick food. If you're looking for service, quiet dining area, and consistency, this isn't the place for you! Phone orders are great, but you may be on hold for a while (sometimes up to 5 minutes) during busy times. I usually get the pad thai or gang ped with brown rice. Both are great dishes. The sauce of gang ped is delicious! My complaint is that their spice level (you get to choose weak, medium, yoga flame, or dim mak) is never consistent. Sometimes, I'll get yoga flame and it tastes like weak sauce, other times, it's so hot I need a gallon of water to go with my meal. It would be nice if they can keep the spice level consistent. My sentiments are a little less friendly for the pad thai, but the potato curry was alright. You really need to get through your entire meal to make a well informed decision about whether you like the food here. I didn't think the pad thai was all that bad at first, but the more you eat it the more that it gets overwhelmingly sour in your taste buds and leaves you missing what you came in for. Both were lacking depth of flavor, but I didn't mind the potato curry so much although it was a little more watery than I had expected. Also, I don't know if this place caters to the non-Asian population but I ordered both dishes medium spicy and neither were spicy at all (like zero spicy). I wouldn't have minded all too much if there had been a choice to add on a little side of spicy Thai chili sauce, but I think sriracha is the only option that they had. The food does not seem nearly Authentic and I understand that this is a college town, but I think that they have fallen a little too far off the wagon. The portions weren't all too bad though and we were able to eat two meals between the two of us that day from the two dishes that we had ordered. All in all, the food here doesn't have much replay value but I hope that I can return to Ann Arbor one day and try the drunken noodles and some other dishes to redeem my experience here! read more

No Thai is to thai food what BTB is to mexican food -- it's perfect for when you're craving thai-like food, but you don't have time to drive anywhere or sit in a restaurant. It's tasty food, but it reminds me of a quick-order place you'd find in a mall cafeteria. With that in mind, it's a bit pricey (about $9 per dish), but you usually can get 2 meals out of it if you're not totally famished. The pad thai is a bit bland (mostly noodles with little else), but some of the other dishes (pad thai curry, gang pak, etc.) are pretty tasty. I usually go for ones that have a lot of veggies in them so that you get more food/nutrition for you $$. read more

This is DEFINITELY not a place to go and sit down to eat - the tiny place is usually packed, and especially in the winter there are always people crowded around the edges of the place waiting for their take-out. But really it IS mostly a take-out place, so this shouldn't be a disaster if it really were the kind of place I could quickly grab some good, cheap thai. Alas, the food is the quality of any other greasy take-out place, for double the price. It's just more carbs dipped in oil no matter how you market it. I've only been to this No Thai, the one in Kerrytown, and the one on Plymouth. The S. University Ave. one the first time was great. I got the drunken fried rice, chicken, and medium spice and it was lovely. Lots of brown sauce, and great spice. My subsequent two visits there, I've ordered the same dish exactly, and had little to know brown whatever the first dish had(i wonder if they just overcooked my first dish) and it was ok. I tried the curry rice, expecting nice flavorful curry sauce and was disappointed. I'll try their curry dishes next time I go, but it's not all that. however since I was told by someone I can customize the order and ask for more sauce, I might try that next time and see what the results are. read more
