If I could I would give a tentative 3.5 for first time visit. Ordered online and the pick up timeframe was incredibly quick. I got the island boi sandwich on a sesame bagel, a maple donut, a strawberry shorty (seasonal), and some ube donut holes. Service was very transactional, so there was nothing standout but also nothing bad to say. The store is in North park, so naturally parking is a nightmare, but since I ordered ahead, I just used one of the 15 min parking spots out front. I was in and out so I didn't stop to really check out the shops decor either. The good: the breakfast sandwich was phenomenal, the crusted spam and garlic chili sauce paired so well with the rest of the flavors. The strawberry shortcake donut, which was filled with a strawberry "cheesecake" filling was very good as well. The donut dough was light and airy, and there was a generous amount of filling. The ehh: I wasn't super impressed with the maple donut, it may just be because most of their classic donuts are vegan, but the texture was strangely chewy to me, and the maple glaze just didn't hit. The donut holes just tasted like sugar coated donuts, I didn't taste any hint of ube/taro, not to mention they are way smaller than the average donut holes (4 for $1). Overall, I highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches, I definitely want to try some of the other specialty ones. As for the donuts themselves, I just don't think the classic donuts are to my taste. I would like to try another specialty one and update eventually.
Oh Nomad Donuts how I love you. This place is a local gem that offers craft donuts, breakfast sandwiches, and fun rotating drinks. My favorite part of the start of a new month is checking their monthly drink and donut specials. This month nothing really called my name but they did have a weekend special that really appealed to me. I have had some of their bagel style sandwiches before and ohhhh goodness they are good. This time it was my favorite style of sandwich, a bahn mi. I had high hopes because of the picture they posted on their social media and just the level of creativity they usually bring. Considering it's North Park, I knew ordering online would be the best option and picking up. My estimated time was 15-20 minutes but it only took them under 10. I got an order ready notification before I even left the house. I got there and it was dead, maybe one other person in and out. There's a lot of seating inside and some outside on their patio. They also have different counters for ordering and pick up which helps speed things up. My experience with service was very transactional, nothing bad just nothing to really highlight. Let's talk about this bahn mi. It's promoted as marinated and charred pork shoulder, house made sweet aioli, nuoc cham compound butter, pickled carrot and daikon, mint, cilantro, and jalapeño on a locally sourced Paris baguette. First off, nuoc cham compound butter?? YES. That is the kind of creativity I love to see. I got my sandwich and the wrapper was pretty oily so the sandwich itself looked kind of glossy. The whole thing felt a little rushed, like everything was just thrown on. I will say I wasn't expecting a generous amount of meat but they delivered in that aspect. I first wanted to try the compound butter on its own and it had a slight nuoc cham flavor, but in the sandwich it didn't really stand out past all the bolder flavors. Now if you've seen my other reviews, the best part of a bahn mi to me is the pickled daikon and carrots. These might be the best I have ever had anywhere. They are exactly how I prefer them, sweet with a slight acidity and THICK CUT. The crunch on these... please let me buy a whole jar. The bread was alright, they mention they source it locally so it's not made in house, but mine leaned a little old and I could tell through the texture. The pork was marinated really well, I do wish some of the pieces were more charred because you could see where some of it didn't hit direct flame. This also came with a side of what tasted like a hoisin vinaigrette. I liked the creativity but felt like the sandwich didn't need it. It was way too acidic and strong and there's not much need for that sharp vinegar hit here. I paired my bahn mi with a miso caramel matcha latte. This was expensive, a 12oz for $8 is steep even for matcha. It was good but not amazing. It leans more sweet than matcha forward. The miso caramel actually surprised me though. At other cafes it usually comes off more like a salted caramel, but here it had more depth, slightly savory, and when mixed with the milk it came out really creamy and smooth. The matcha was a little grainy though. Overall I will definitely be back and will keep my eye out for more specials because that's where they really shine. And seriously, if they ever let me buy those pickled carrots and daikon by the jar, I'm there immediately.
Another north Park neighborhood joint. I come here for when I'm feeling for a bagel and smear - something quick and on the go. Love that there's a patio area to enjoy, and if you have a dog, it's a perfect spot for both of you to enjoy. Note - dogs aren't allowed inside (unless they are a service animal). I've gotten the salmon gravlax, which is pretty solid, but I add extra capers cream cheese, as the original order doesn't slather it on. WORTH it tho. I'd probably try it with an add on of tomato the next time. The ice strawberry matcha is pretty good too. Overall, it's a pretty cool spot for a quick bite!
I came here with my friends and there was only street parking. We had to walk a little bit but it wasn't too bad. Line was out the door but didn't feel like a long wait. I got the BLAT and it was very good. The girl taking our order was nice and answered any questions my friend had. They have seating inside as well as outside. There is a restroom in the back. I love that owners can bring their dogs with them. It make the outside seating more fun.
Nomad Donuts in North Park has been here for over ten years making it an iconic place to be at. This shop is always crowded and street parking is a challenge. My first visit here was over a year ago and luckily met with the owner Brad! Brad and his staff were super nice and have always been every time I visit. I'm not a hugh fan of donuts, but I always find the perfect one for me here. I really like that they offer lots of vegan and not too sugary sweet donuts. So far, these donuts haven't given me any bad reaction or sickness like other donuts have. This shop also offers Montreal style bagels, sandwiches, coffee drinks for breakfast and lunch. Indoor, outdoor seating and dog friendly. The majority of customers are young and vivacious making the ambiance lively. I've never stayed in to dine as I always do togo. A must visit. Recommend!
Saturday mornings are super busy here, usually with a line out the door! I got the dirty Diego on an everything bagel, sooo fire. Loved the grilled onions and bacon bits (rather than slices). Although, everything did seem to slide out the end of the sandwich so be careful of that. I do wish the sauce it came with wasn't so vinegary and more spicy? Would definitely come here again and try other breakfast sandos
Great stop into Nomad. It was super busy and after only 1 hour of opening they were sold out of a few things. For donuts went with a vanilla bean and Dubai chocolate and also got an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and bagel with cream cheese. Service was friendly and the wait wasn't long for our order. The donuts were so good we all really loved the Dubai chocolate. The bagels were perfect. Chewy on the inside with a little crunch on the outside. Definitely a great spot and we will have to get there right when they open next time for a full selection!
The service here is always really friendly, which I appreciate so much. The bagels are good, though not anything exceptionally special. I would appreciate a bit more variety of bagels. The schmears are really tasty, especially the Chipotle Onion, I highly recommend adding that to your sandwich! My one complaint is that the wait time is always quiet long. They have vegan alternatives to almost everything on the menu, which is a HUGE draw and the reason we continue to return.
Updated review... This place is still the shiiii (you know) Mainly come for the donuts. Always fresh and oh sooooo fluffy! I came back to realize monthly donuts change now. Lucky me to find out Dubai was in rotation. Our all time favorite : cream cheese Guava. Truly can't go wrong with any of their regulars. The kids love Vanilla and Sprinkle. Their Vietnamese coffee is 10/10. Service is always great! Awesome cashiers. If you're stumped I'm sure they can offer some great recommendations as well. Nomad you have a place in my heart.
Is anything done well anymore, or is everything just expensive and of lowest possible quality? I got this donut today and when I opened the box two minutes later that they put it in, the donut had brown smudge from another donut on one side, smashed up chocolate icing on top, and a small glob of green on the other side from either another donut or avocado toast. You wait fifteen minutes to buy a $5 donut, you expect to get a donut that looks nice, is intact, and doesn't have two other donuts' flavors smooshed onto it. That's not too much to ask for.
My friends rave about this place, from their recommendations, I had to give it a try. AMBIANCE: Parking: Welcome to NO(rth) PARK. Come early, stay alert. There's neighborhood, street parking, and one parking structure. Seating: Inside seating and outside shaded seating. Good for about 40 people. Vibes: North Park is a fun place to be with a lot of commercial businesses and community events here and there. It is not on the main strip but on University and still walking distance to many of the North Park festivities. You're welcomed by some good hip hop music and sounds of the employees putting in work. a good The space is nothing too flashy, just a good flow of local art, acclamations, and donuts in display. Great place to catch up with a friend, take a quick pause from the hustle and bustle, or get work done. FOOD: Classic Sando (Recommend) A savory/delicious bagel enclosing lovely ingredients such as scrambled eggs, cheese (I got pepperjack), and I paid extra for protein (bacon). A brekkie delight that got my day going. Matcha Latte - Strawberry (Recommend) Matcha has a way of keeping me grounded. An earthy and smooth delight with fresh strawberry concentrate to add some natural sweetness to it. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Lana is dope. Friendly person that knows her stuff. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Creative dishes, good food, and reasonable prices. My major regret was sticking to fundamentals, yes it's a good baseline but they do have signature bites that you're everyday bagel place provides. Wow... the bagels here are the freshest I've had outside of NYC!! I loved the fresh dill in the cream cheese! They've got the perfect bite, warmth, and chewy consistency you look for in a quality bagel. Service is really quick too at this grab and go spot, though they do have lines out the door on weekends. That said, I was a disappointed that my jalapeño bagel had no jalapeño in it...I got the salmon gravalax sandwich. For a $16 bagel, it was really skimpy on the portion. Barely any salmon and a really small bagel (and not even the bagel I ordered). The house-cure flavor also was forgettable. I brought up the mixup to staff, but they convinced me it was in fact a jalapeño bagel...didn't want to start a fuss, but the dill and scallions inside my cream cheese were not jalapeños ... Might try this place again for their famous donuts, or if I'm looking to splurge on a bagel sandwich. Looking forward to trying the exotic zaatar bagel next visit, or maybe the everything! Coming from NYC, I was a little skeptical of the bagels here but my expectations were thrown out the window! I actually came twice before I wrote this review and the food was equally as good each time. Nomad Donuts had great bagels, I have tried the rosemary, cheddar jalapeno and the everything bagel and both of them were super fresh. I also got some donuts and those were as equally fresh and delicious:) this shop has a warm welcoming ambiance with sweet staff, if I'm ever back in San Diego I have a new go-to bagel spot ! read more
The birria empanadas were the star of the show! So flavorful along with the chimichurri they gave us. The rosemary bagel with sundried tomato shmear and bacon bits was pretty darn good too just really messy. Can't go wrong with their strawberry matcha and Vietnamese cold brew. The service is top notch here! I could tell all of their employees were hustling and eager to get the job done. They had wonderful music playing at a nice volume as well. read more
Nomad donuts has some incredible stuff here. The food is excellent. The donuts were all so soft and good. The bagels were clearly fresh and delicious. The service was decent and we got our food in a timely manner. The thing that I'm knocking is the place just wasn't that clean. If you're going to have outdoor seating, you have to do a decent job of cleaning to keep up with your customers. It is a bit on the pricey side for simple breakfast items, but hey everyone needs to pay rent. With that said, place is well worth the try if you're in the area. Cheers! read more

There was a small line when we got here, but it went by quickly and then our order was ready within 5 minutes. The service was quick and friendly! I ordered a buenos dias breakfast sandwich and it was pretty good! The bagel itself was fantastic, I just thought there could have been slightly more flavor in the chorizo/guac/egg filling. I would come back to try their donuts or get more bagels! read more

This place is located on a corner block in North Park. No dogs allowed inside but outdoor seating available for the doggos. This restaurant has a variety of monthly special drinks (such as hot apple cider where you can also add rum into it) and other specialty lattes. The donuts are unique, such as the ube coconut donut. I tried the drinks, donuts, and breakfast bagels and I was disappointed. Flavor was lacking across all items and I was not blown away. It felt a bit overpriced for the breakfast bagels considering the taste was underwhelming. I appreciate the variety in food and drinks but the quality of taste for the price you pay just wasn't there. read more

The donuts are a solid 4, but the stellar bagels put Nomad Donuts in 5 star territory! I tried 3 donuts + 2 bagels and 2 mini sides of cream cheese today. The donut texture was great, airy, and fluffy but with just enough chew and density. My favorite flavor was the pirate's punch. It looks pretty plain with a few small pineapple pieces on top, but that glaze packs a mega uppercut of scrumptiousness! Mango, passion fruit, and peach, rum, pineapple and sugar dust all combine to create a blissful experience for my tastebuds. Rasprumallow swirl had strong natural raspberry flavor and a hint of marshmallow--tart and tangy! Ube taro coconut wad a bit muted in flavor, so I'll try the ube cream filled option next time. But those bagels, though. I chose everything and za'atar. You know a bagel is bomb when you can eat the bottom half, no schmear, and be happy with just the natural flavors and texture. Nomad bagels are that good. Everything was delicious, but the standout was the za'atar--the herbs, and spice blend created a culinary melody in my mouth. When dabbed with just a bit of silky, tangy dill caper cream cheese, it became a savory masterpiece! Needless to say, I will be back for more wonderfully flavored carby goodness soon. read more

4/26/24. This place should be renamed to "Nomad Bagels" because the bagel I had was superior to their donut. 4/07/24. Philly Sandwich with Jalepeño Bagel ($15): they are skimpy with the amount of brisket, but it is tender and pungent, as with the delish peppers and onions. Overall, 4.5/5 stars! 4/07/24. Ube Taro Coconut Donut ($4): perfectly crispy and flaky textures that are similar to a cronut. The amount of taro icing was lacking, plus the sweetness was tone-downed, but still an above average rating of 4/5 stars. The restaurant was clean, while the service that I've received was standard. The parking can be tricky, as it is near residences and other businesses. read more

Finally made my way to Nomad Donuts after living close by for about 3 years. I had an intense bagel craving and the reviews looked promising! After having sub par bagels in the area, Nomad donuts definitely hit the spot. The bagel was soft and chewy, similar to that NY style we all love. I will say the bagel had hardly any jalapeño flavor and wasn't really toasted, but it was still great. Will definitely be returning to try other things! read more
My husband and I are huge fans of Nomad Doughnuts! We always get four doughnuts and a bagel sandwich to share. The doughnuts are light and crispy, so we end up finishing them all while waiting for our bagel. The tofu scramble is also delicious! I love getting the sesame bagel for that classic vibe. I've been enjoying the bagels at Nomad Donuts for years now! One of the very best bagels in San Diego, for sure. They make Montreal-inspired bagels from scratch, that they boil in agave-sweetened water and then bake in their oven. My favorite bagels are their Rosemary Sea Salt and the Za'atar. My go-to is the Basic Egg and Cheese (I go with white American, though they also offer sharp cheddar and pepper jack) on the Rosemary Sea Salt bagel. It's so simple, but oh so delicious!! I've been wanting to try their Egg Tasty 2.0 (scrambled eggs, provolone, sundried tomato sunflower seed pesto, seared broccolini and basil chiffonade) on the Za'atar bagel, or the Breakfast Shawarma (muhammara spread, grilled Halloumi cheese, pickled cauliflower and root veggies, scrambled egg, and za'atar aioli), also on the Za'atar bagel, but I can't seem to stray from my usual bagel sandwich order here. I've tried a donut or two here before, but the texture and flavor of the dough isn't for me, so I stick to the bagels. They've also recently expanded into offering burritos and tacos that sound good, though I've yet to try them. Their drinks are pretty good, and I appreciate their seasonal offerings! There is ample seating inside and on their little patio, and the service here is always fast. I hope this place is around for years to come! read more
this place is more like a 3.5 stars out of 5 stars. We were craving something to eat for breaskfast and wanted something sweet. We ended up getting 3 different types of donuts and a cup of coffee. Out of the three we tried, the best one is the churro donut. I don't know how they made it differently than the other donuts, but it was more fluffy and airy. I wish i got more. We also got a guava and an ube donut, which was just "ok" This place is very vegan friendly, i think when i saw the menu they had a lot of options for vegan eats. There's street parking, but i can see during peak hours how parking at this location may be a bit difficult. read more

There's no halves but I give it a 3.5. Parking was hard but not unexpected with North Park. Breakfast sandwich was pretty good but service was a tad slow. They weren't really busy either so I was a little surprised. The shop was pretty clean and spacious because they have indoor seating but they also have an outdoor patio. Maybe if I'm already in the area or close by I'll stop by but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Wonderful find here in North Park. In house made vegan donuts and freshly made bagels! Cant beat that. Welcome from the staff at the door and friendly service. Strolled in here this morning to grab a breakfast bite with friends. The donut was tasty and I appreciate that it's vegan, but still pricey for a single donut. I also ordered an iced almond milk latte ($6 for a small..) and it was terrible. It tasted sour and rancid; they must be using very low quality almond milk which is lame. I exchanged it for oat milk and that was much better. I might come back if I wanted vegan donuts for a special occasion and would try their bagels next time. read more

Thank you for having so many amazing vegan options! Very glad we stopped in...there was a line, but it moved quickly...and although it was quite crowded (inside & out) we were able to grab a table. Tried the vegan blueberry & maple donuts, the vegan egg, sausage & cheese bagel, and the buffalo frickin bagel...yum yum yum! Portions were generous and to wash it all down, we got green iced tea (minty) and a matcha strawberry drink. Well worth stopping by! read more

First, I want to acknowledge that part of this review is about my Too Good To Go order. But I think that is OK because it's still a review about the service and or food. This is the second time in a row I have gone to nomads to pick up a too good to go order that I was not given what the description said. The description says you will receive specialty donuts *warning* you will not receive specialty donuts. Perhaps I am wrong, but it also seems like the employees have an attitude for anyone who picks up too good to go. I recognize that they don't get a tip if someone just picks up their order, but I always order something in addition to my surprise bag. And every other time, but today I leave them a tip. Today the staff was literally the worst. And, I did not get what I paid for and was promised which was specialty donuts, not their regular classic donuts. Even on their website, you can see which are listed as specialty and which are their classic donuts. When I went in today, they had a good supply of specialty donuts available. In fact, they had some that were full sheets of specialty donuts on their racks. I did not get even one specialty donut. I do not see a point in coming back here. As I have always been courteous to the staff, and as I said, given them tips every time I pick up an order. I am using this platform because I know some people look on Yelp before they order on too good to go. And I also feel like the average customer should know that the staff is not always the best. That said, I wanted to also say something about my separate purchase of several orders of donut holes, they were dry and hard so also disappointing may be especially so because I paid full price. read more

Holy Moly. This donut shop might just be the best, get this, BAGEL shop in San Diego! Despite their name, and despite me never trying their donuts, I've gotta say that coming here for bagels is what you need to do. Their rosemary bagel is so special. It's herbaceous, salty, chewy, and perfect when toasted. New York better watch out. This shop has plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoors, and the friendliest of servers. Probably the best bagel spot in San Diego. My roommate and I love coming here for their sandwiches, so many delicious unique flavors. They also have brunch drinks, so you can really customize your breakfast experience. The service is always great, the people behind the counter are super helpful. There's a great little side patio if you want to sit outside on a lovely San Diego morning. read more

Nomad Donuts is a cute coffee shop and bakery on University Ave offering lots of delicious vegan options. They have both vegan and non-vegan donuts, sandwiches, cream cheese, and coffee. The turquoise walls are filled with modern art and mid-temp music echoes throughout the cafe. There was a short line when I arrived a few minutes after it opened. The staff was incredibly helpful and recommended some of their favorite dishes to try. I got the Snozzberries sandwich and it was delicious! It had both a sweet and savory flavor and was incredibly satisfying for a vegan sandwich on a sesame bagel. I would definitely get it again! I also had their berries and cream donut. It was good, not the best donut I've had in San Diego, but I would gladly come again. Lastly, I had some of their piping hot coffee and it was a great treat to go. My friend and I came here after a hike wanting to grab a donut but decided to order bagels instead. They have a great variety of bagels, sandwhiches, donuts and other sides as well as a great drink menu! I went wi to the jalapeño bagel with garlic fine herb spread! The amount of cream cheese they give is a lot! I believe it's 2oz. Lol I could of used another bagel! They have a lot of indoor seatings as well as outdoor. A nice spot to grab a bite! Their donuts are delicious as well, my favorite is the Ube taro coconut ! read more
Finally made it to check out this shop, I guess I was too late for a larger variety, the setup is different from your typical donut place- there's a small case with 1 donut displayed and when it's gone it's gone. That's fine but hard to know when just behind the register are large stacked racks of donuts, so you may think there are actually more. But.. now I know the drill. I tried a birthday cake, guava and cherry. Frosting is not completely set, so it's also different than the typical but still very tasty. Both the fruity donuts were very good, kinda dense, not overly sweet. We also brought home 2 bagels for the following morning and they stayed fresh- chewy and good tasting. Parking is a challenge but I'm sure that's a known issue for the area. Service was nice, especially once I confessed it was my first time. read more

Hi Stephen, all the donuts are served at room temperature. We make them fresh from scratch every morning. They have to cool before we glaze them or the glaze runs off because we don’t use coagulant additives. You can heat them at home if you like.
