My family and I stopped here for dinner after an 8 hour day in the car with our 5 and 2 year old. I was hesitant about this place and honestly had pretty minimal expectations (I grew up eating at Little Saigon and Westminster for legit Vietnamese food!) However, I was humbled! My husband got the chicken pho which was perfect and nourishing as he is recovering from surgery. My 2 year old loved the chicken from his pho and the pork and veggie dumplings. My picky little girl finished the plate! I was so relieved that she ate after a long day in the car. My 5 year old got the kids bowl with beef broth/rice noodles/BBQ pork and he kept commenting the whole time about how delicious everything was. He wanted a to go box to bring it back to the hotel. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Good noodle soups, but limited vegetarian selection. It was a chilly enough spring evening in mammoth where a hot noodle soup sounded very appealing. They have a good-sized, pleasant space and had plenty of seating when we stopped by. The hubby and I both got the veggie noodle soup, but I had it with egg noodles (instead of default rice noodles) and added shrimp, which made it significantly more expensive. I get it, mountain prices, but not sure if that was worth it. The standard veggie noodle soup, while tasty, could have really used a bit more veggie's--it was basically a few thin slices of tofu, some mushrooms and a whole lot of cilantro. We were really hungry so were hoping to supplement the soups with a little something more, but they had only one appetizer, and it had meat. We were stopping in mammoth lakes for the night on our way to tahoe and were in need of a good meal after a long drive. This was close to our hotel and looked yummy, while still being casual enough for a lively 18 month old who had been in a car all day. We got the pho with rare beef and Vietnamese kao soi. I also got a lychee milk tea with rose jelly. The phone tasted good initially, but finished super salty, the meat was very tender. The kao soi tasted more like an italian fusion dish that anything Asian. It did taste good but not what I was expecting based on the kao soi I've had. Something in it made my stomach a little touchy too. Maybe all the oil in it or just that it contains a good deal of garlic. The drink wasnt to sweet at all, but instead of rose jelly they gave me popping Boba. The workers were very nice, and the portions are large. We did a take out and couldn't believe how huge the portions were! We ordered the vegetarian noodle soup and the kids vegetarian noodles with tofu. The vegetarian one was almost 2 servings. We liked the noodles even though the broth got a bit saltier at the bottom. My husband did not finish his and saved half for the next day. While the first day , all of us were fine after eating the food , only my husband who ate the refrigerated leftover noodle soup the next day developed symptoms of food poisoning. We later learnt that starchy soups are very sensitive to temperatures / refrigeration and can get spoilt with improper refrigeration ( especially if not cooled completely before refrigeration, the centre of it can still be warm but cannot also be left out for too long at room temperature.). Would not recommend refrigerating leftovers and having it later, likely best eaten right away. What stood out for me was the service from the amazing young lady ( who I later realized must the owner's daughter , from reading reviews here) who left such a lasting impression! Even took the time to understand how to pronounce our names. We also tried their Boba drinks - the mango one and would rate it a 3 out of 5. Might have to mess around and drive five and a half hours from LA just to take a large Pho with extra chili oil and side of chicken to the dome. Growing up in Seattle we had the supreme Pho spots. Every soccer practice in the winter would end with a horde of voracious young boys barreling into these establishments, specifically the Than Brothers Pho. The urban legend was that the Than brothers would inject their soups with Tylenol because they'd knock your ass out they were so hearty and healing. This is the first time since then I've had that sensation from a bowl of Pho. Nothing but the kindest and highest praise to the chefs and owners for amazing food and cool people working there. Honestly I'm very particular about my pho. I wasn't the biggest fan of my meal because the broth tasted more meaty than spiced. I was looking for the spiced aromatic taste of pho and got more of a ramen flavored broth. #5 The Noods on the other hand was DELICIOUS! My partner ordered this and I honestly wish I got that instead. Highly recommend that dish and will return just to order that for myself next time! Disappointing Pho Experience Despite Good Service We are from Southern California and were excited to find a noodle restaurant in Mammoth Lakes. The restaurant itself is cozy and interesting, with unique décor and items displayed throughout the space that appeared to be for sale. The service was prompt and friendly, and we appreciated that. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment. We ordered six bowls of pho along with several appetizers, including steamed dumplings. The pho broth was extremely salty--so salty that we could barely taste the traditional pho seasonings. When we brought this to our server's attention, we were told that we were the only customers who had complained. Regardless of other diners' preferences, the broth was simply too salty for our group. Since the pho was not inexpensive, we ended up eating the noodles and meat and leaving most of the broth behind. The steamed dumplings were also underwhelming and did not live up to expectations. More concerning, one member of our group of nine bit into what appeared to be a small piece of glass-like plastic in the food. That was particularly alarming and turned what was already a disappointing meal into a food-safety concern. To the restaurant's credit, the owner, Taylor, personally apologized very sincerely and emphatically. The restaurant eventually comped the bowl in which the foreign object was found and removed 20% from our total bill. We appreciated Taylor's willingness to take responsibility and address the situation. The prices are on the high side, although perhaps that is to be expected in a ski-resort destination. We were really hoping to find a good bowl of pho while visiting Mammoth, but unfortunately, this was not the experience we had hoped for. read more

Unfortunately, I'm incredibly picky with my pho. And of course I did not set my expectations high at all as I have yet to have really good food in Mammoth. I did give two stars because I was ultimately disappointed. However, there are a few positives I will definitely give this restaurant. We ordered takeout and they fill the broth when you get there so the noodles don't get too soggy! Not like other pho spots where they usually separate the noodles and soup but this I didn't mind as we didn't have a big kitchen in our cabin to cook the noodles. We ordered the #2. I came here on a busy snow season opening weekend, it was a 75 minute wait for the 4 of us at 6pm on a Friday night. I believe this is the only Pho spot in town that was recommended, so we toughed it out and waited. The service was super friendly regardless of how incredibly busy they were. We got our drinks and food orders quick, multiple servers walking around helping everyone. I understand the small menu to maintain speed and efficiency, but I wish they had more items like fried egg rolls or some other appetizers. I got the brisket Pho with everything and a Starry soda. I found nothing wrong with the food, I just prefer a richer flavor profile so the broth seemed more on the lighter bland side for me.
