I was in Santa Rosa for some business as usual. I've been going to Santa Rosa for 30 years, and I had never been to this place. I went there with my nephew, a proud Pho enthusiast. We did the highly scientific process of Yelping nearby restaurants, and history was made. A lot of reviews have bashed this place because of its appearance. That's stupid. It looks like a house converted into a restaurant. It's hard to tell where it is. Who cares. The interior is fine, don't know what people are complaining about. I wanted some noodles. There are plenty of snooty spots around here. Staff was friendly. Food was amazing. I got the Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef soup). It smelled great. It looked great. There was a nice sheen of chili oil on top. I threw in the mint and poured some more chili paste and got down to business. The broth was amazing. It was crazy spicy (I did carpet bomb my bowl with chili paste). I would go back for a second round right now. This place is interesting. There is plenty of room though it feels dated and bare bones. The staff is good, attentive and willing to answer questions. We ordered green curry noodles and lemongrass chicken. The lemongrass chicken was a little sweet so I had to add salt to balance it out for a savory dish. Could have used more flavor in general. But not bad. Curry was also medium flavor. Dishes seemed of small quantity compared to other similar restaurants. The rice servings were sparse. The rice was dry and lukewarm. Really needed to have some water added and to be reheated for better texture and to stay hot for longer. Had to ask for more rice which is rare. It also would be better served in a bowl instead of a shallow plate which contributed to it getting cold quickly. There is a dark house-made chili sauce that has very good flavor along with heat. This is worth trying. All in all an ok experience. Not spectacular or memorable, but not bad. Functional for a Sunday night when other places are closed. read more

Noodle Palace really hit the spot on a rainy day during lunch time. I wanted something light and filling so I decided some spring rolls and Pho would do the trick! The restaurant was busy but the woman working (I think the owner?) was kicking ass bussing the tables and taking orders. Our food came out in no time and it was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the chicken yellow curry and oh...my...god....SO GOOD. It had a great flavor of curry and lemongrass that I just had to take an order home for lunch the next day which I have never done before. The Pho had a great flavor too and usually I have to add a lot to my soup but not this time! Even though the Noodle Palace is off the beaten path, give it a try! It's been years since I've had a good banh-mi sandwich. You see, I live in Sonoma so Vietnamese restaurants are basically non-existent in my neck of the woods. Luckily I was in Santa Rosa and quickly yelped up "banh-mi" restaurants and this place caught my eye. Like everyone says, don't be discouraged by the outer appearance because it has nothing to do with the deliciousness going on inside. On top of the sandwiches, I ordered the fresh spring rolls too and it was just as good. The sauce was probably one of the best I've ever had. But most of all, the sandwich was unbelieveable. The bread didn't scrape my upper palate like other breads I've had in the past and the seasoning was spot on. I'd easily travel the 19 miles to get another one of these bad boys. As a Cambodian who just moved to the area from L.A. 6 months ago, it's hard to find good Asian food anywhere north of the Bay. I would even argue that L.A. has better Asian cuisines than the Bay in general, but that's just my opinion. That said, this place is a little gem. The pho is pretty good and the portions are big. The beef pad Thai has more sauce in it compared to other places thus has more flavor and is also thicker. It's different, but not in a bad way. They use the same beef flank meat that is used in pho, so the beef is thinly sliced but nice and tender. This place seems as authentic Cambodian as it comes. I approve. read more

Cheap eats and hearty portions - yes! Excellent food - well, here is where I must disagree with many of my fellow Yelpers! When we arrived at Noodle Palace about 4:30 on a rainy Sunday afternoon, the restaurant seemed about half occupied. We stood in the side entry wondering whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. After no one acknowledged us, we chose one of two cleared tables. Of the 14 tables there, six (6) sat un-bussed with dirty dishes and uneaten food on their tops and food dropped and spattered on the floor around them. A few minutes later, two women entered from another door and took a seat at the remaining clean table. We sat tapping our fingers and after a bit, a seemingly sweet gal who manned the register brought menus to the women. We waited another 4 or 5 minutes until another server brought us a list of offerings. We ordered a vegetarian spring roll appetizer. It arrived deep fried and filled with steamy hot cabbage and carrots accompanied by a small bowl of pleasant-tasting fish sauce. Good, yet it lacked any distinct flavor. Then came the Vermicelli noodles with BBQ chicken and Pad Thai, a plate of steaming hot noodles with bits of chicken, bean sprouts and carrots. Sweet to the taste yet lacking pizazz. The cold Vermicelli noodles sat in a bowl amongst shredded cabbage, plentiful tiny chunks of chicken with sesame seeds (more likely stir-fried than BBQ'd), shredded carrots, cilantro, bean sprouts and a ramekin of fish sauce on the side. Unfortunately, the sauce served the only ingredient to add any memorable flavor to this bland dish. Our server did check back to inquire whether everything seemed satisfactory. We responded positively, yet both my handsome dining companion and I agreed that the Noodle Palace would not be a place to which we must return soon. We departed with a $24.50 tab, a 20 percent tip and two containers filled with enough leftovers for a light lunch the next day. Filling - yes, though disappointing as well. My husband and I were on the hunt for banh mi. A fellow Yelper suggested this place to me. He had the bbq pork banh mi and I had the bbq chicken. They were both quite delicious... full of flavor and fresh. The bread was crispy and flaky. I posted a couple pics on their yelp page. Service seemed quite lovely when we walked in, but after that, it was non-existent. No one returned to ask how we were enjoying our meal, our drinks were not refilled/replaced, nor did anyone ask. There were 2 customers who ordered take-out and one couple dining in while we were there. Another table was full of 4 younger ones, I'm guessing family of the owner, who were there just to watch the football game and play on their pads and phones. The lady (owner?) barely acknowledged us as we left. That kind of sucked, because she seemed so nice when we walked in, but over all, the sandwiches were quite good. It's possible they've read a lot of the reviews on them because the place was painted bright yellow with red accents (wretched paint job... just absolutely wretched - no one even bothered to remove the curtains before they painted!) and there were several nice paintings on the walls. When i first drove by this place and looked at the sign, i was a bit skeptical! it doesn't look that appealing from the outside and it didn't seem like any of the other restaurant there had any luck so it looks a bit dilapidated. any who i googled it, and it had a good review on bite-club or something so i decided to try it. i have never had pho before so the first time i only ordered spring rolls, eggs rolls, and vegetable pho. i was not a huge fan of the vegetable pho, it was kind of bland but i will try another flavor (seafood maybe?)again. i went there last night and ordered the banh mi with BBQ pork, spring rolls (BBQ pork and shrimp) and a Thai iced tea. it came out to $11 and a little change. i felt like i got a good amount of food for 11 bucks. *the first time i ordered a banh mi there were NO veggies on it, i was kinda pissed and a little disappointed , the flavor was great still and my boyfriend ate it anyways, so this time i made sure to tell them to put everything on there i do agree they should work on there decor a Little more because it is quite strange! i would give it 5 stars but there's some things it needs to work on.... read more

This restaurant is great for the food, but also the environment. It's a bit smaller than one would come to expect, but that's what makes it great in my opinion. It's down-to-Earth and home-like. But the food is excellent. The food is *absolutely* excellent. My wife and I end up getting the same stuff every time due to how beyond great it is. We usually get the small Chicken and small Beef soup with Beef spring rolls on the side. Getting the same thing every time at a restaurant usually has a way of either showing whether a place is terrible or good due to the fact that it's either made differently or sometimes it's made disgusting (I have had this happen at places). But not here! Here, the food is always the same - perfect. I give this restaurant a 5 star due to how well they mix the home-like environment and yet still serve perfection in the form of soup. This is a good place for noodles. They have Vietnamese pho, Thai noodles such as pad Thai, and Chinese noodles such as chow fun. For gluten sensitive people, you'll be happy to know that their egg rolls are made of rice paper so enjoy the egg(rice) roll! The flavor of the dishes is pretty authentic. I had the chicken laab salad which had great flavors, my daughter had the Vietnamese vermicelli dish with nice round rice noodles. The roundness of the noodles adds a nice slurpiness to the dish. Went here on Sunday evening at 5:30pm and we were the only ones here. Not a good sign. But the place appeared clean, if a little plain - decoration-wise. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai and it was okay. Not as good as the Pad Thai at Jhanthong Banbua, but it was okay. It tasted like it had tomato sauce in it, which was a bit odd. My brother ordered the the "locals' favorite" which was a combination bun - a salad with rice noodles, huge barbecued shrimp, beef and pork slices, along with a fried egg roll. He liked it, but said the best thing was the barbecued shrimp. He ended up ordering 3 more shrimp (only $2.75). In my opinion, the best things to order are their barbecued Shrimp and their shrimp spring rolls. Both were delicious! The prices are cheap and the food was okay. Personally, I prefer "Simply Vietnam" or "Kettles" for Vietnamese food, or Jhanthong Banbua for Thai, but Noodle Palace was okay. Not great, but not horrible either. One last note: they don't accept credit cards on orders less than $12.00. The reason is that the bank charges them quite a lot to process each order, so they can't afford to do it on orders less than $12.00. Makes sense. Just be prepared. read more

Came here with my husband to try a new Vietnamese place. We shared three dishes: 1) rare beef pho, 2) BBQ pork bahn mi, 3) chicken pad kee mao. Our favorite was the BBQ pork bahn mi. We asked the waiter before ordering if there was a lot of fat in the meat and assured us there wasn't. There wasn't! And the flavor was good. The pho and pad kee Mao were good but not stand out. Tried this place cause it was close to target. Not super elegant from the outside or inside for that matter. Has beer and wine . 60in TV with the basketball game on. First ordered the shrimp spring rolls and fried egg rolls. Shrimp spring rolls were very disappointing. Very small, and the peanut sauce was watery. The egg rolls were hot a delicious though! My wife ordered the large pho Thai , it's was pretty good I'd say. I got the special combo with bbq steak shrimp and egg rolls. It was really good.
