    Spicy Beef Tripe Noodles (Dry)
    Aaron K.

NoodlePanda is a low key new-ish (I believe they just crossed the one year mark) spot off the corner of Taraval and 21st Ave, a location that always seems to struggle to keep a steady business. Given that, I hope more people give it a try because the food and service were both good overall. Ordering is done through a QR code at each table, and payment is handled in person at the end, though worth noting they have a 2 card maximum for splitting bills in case that mattered. The menu is mostly centered around noodles, in both soup and dry form, along with several popular side dishes and appetizers like lamb skewers, dry braised string beans, and garlic cucumber salad. I ordered the spicy beef tripe dry noodles, and while the bowl was packed with tripe and the mala flavor was definitely there, I wish I had been able to swap in a different noodle. Something about the thin, round noodles just did not quite work for me. I think a flatter or wider noodle would have soaked up the sauce better, or even the knife cut noodle they are known for, which I did try in another dish and thought was much better. The garlic cucumber salad was a standout for me. It was rough chopped into big chunks, super flavorful, refreshing, and a pretty generous portion, even as part of the Traditional Hand Pulled Beef Noodle Combo. The dry braised string beans were a miss for me since they had very little sauce and not much char, so while there was a good snap it lacked both flavor and the wok hei I was hoping for. The lamb skewers were also not my favorite, as the meat tasted a bit overcooked and were way too heavily seasoned with the same dry rub I find most Chinese restaurants used for skewers regardless of protein, but it could certainly just be a matter of preference. That said, the staff were friendly and the food was good enough that I would definitely give it another shot, though I think I would just stick to a more specific subset of their noodle soups on any future visits.

The xiaolong bao was tasty. Loved the different colors. The bok choy was cooked just right, thankful that we could have them without the garlic sauce (dietary restrictions). The chicken noodle was super yummy- not too greasy, chicken cooked just right, noodles were fresh & clean! The lamb chops were pretty good, but had a bunch of fat on them. Service was good- very fast & accurate. Lots of tables. Not crowded on a weekday night. It's a good option for a go-to-place.

I ordered takeout from here recently and had a pretty good experience overall. I tried the Chinese burgers (both pork and beef options), lamb skewers, beef noodle soup with hand pulled wide noodles, and green beans. For the Chinese burgers, the pork was more tender, but the beef had more flavor. The lamb skewers were just okay. I wish the lamb had a better balance of thin vs fattiness. The meat was a bit on the dry side, although the seasoning was pretty good. The beef noodle soup was delicious! I really enjoyed the texture of the wide noodles, broth was flavorful, and the beef was quite tender.

I've seen so many restaurants come and go at this sunset location for so many years, so I was pretty excited to try this place out! They specialize in Lanzhou-style hand-pulled beef noodles, and you can actually watch them make the noodles fresh right when you walk in. The space is also super cute with panda decor throughout. I got the signature beef noodle soup. The broth was light bur flavorful, and the noodles had a great chewy texture (you can even choose the style of the noodles). My friends and I also shared cucumber salad and lamb skewers, which were my favorite. I normally don't like lamb but this was SO GOOD. Perfectly grilled, well-seasoned, and super tender.

I was actually really impressed with this place! We got to the restaurant around 5:45 PM and only a few tables were occupied, but it started getting pretty busy around 6:30-7 PM. We were seated right away and ordered through a QR code, which I personally love because it makes everything quick and easy. We started with the rainbow xiaolong bao and they were really good. The pork filling was flavorful and the wrapper wasn't too thick. They also came out really hot, which made them even more delicious. We also shared the beef pancake rolls, which were super tasty. The pancake itself was perfectly crisp and the beef was cooked really well. The string beans were also really flavorful. My favorite dish of the night was the big beef noodle soup. We ordered it with thin noodles and mild spice. The broth was rich and comforting and pretty spicy for mild. The noodles tasted really fresh, and the portion size was huge. The restaurant was clean and the staff were attentive. I'd definitely come back - and I'd love to bring my parents here next time!

Walking into the restaurant, I felt excited to eat and slurp some delicious noodles! It gives a nice warm vibe when you walk in. Everything on the menu looked good but to my surprise the food was lacking in many aspects. I don't even know how to describe my disappointment but it tasted nothing like I imagined it to taste like. Three stars because the food was still edible. The service was also lacking.

Less than a year old, this Northern China-style noodle house drew my attention when I was riding the L-Taraval to Ocean Beach, but surprisingly I didn't order their signature hand-pulled noodles. I was feeling particularly carb-averse that day and noticed they offer a more diverse menu than I would've expected given the name. It's pretty spacious in here and rather empty in the middle of a Thursday afternoon. I decided to try two of their small plates. First up was the $7.98 Black Fungus Salad, which sounded more ominous than it was, a pile of marinated wood ear mushrooms (Photo 9). I liked it, mostly for the chewy texture. Then came the $7.98 Lamb Skewers (Photo 10). Grilled and pretty tasty with the cumin seasoning a nice touch. I need to come back for the true noodle experience when I feel like carbs can be my friend. Otherwise I won't get my panda merit badge. OK, I made that part up. FOOD - 4 stars...didn't try the noodles but other plates also satisfy AMBIANCE - 4 stars...wide open in here SERVICE - 3.5 stars...cordial enough TOTAL - 4 stars...where's my panda merit badge? Affordable prices for big portions and one of the only Lanzhou Noodles spots in the city without going too far. Always love to come here for their Beef Noodle Combo with Lamb Skewers, so so tasty!

Great for a quick bite! Service was quick and friendly. Order through QR code at the table and the restaurant was clean. Loved the beef noodle (thick noodles). The noodles could be chewier but overall solid. The pan fried dumplings were not juicy which was a let down and could have been fried more on the bottom. It was more soggy / drier than expected.

Came on the Friday night. Full of people. Worth to wait. The beef noodles were amazing. Seeing the chefs hand pull the noodle onsite at the entrance. So cool. Servers were super busy, we were told to order through the QR code. They presented the food to you in a nice manner. They were very efficient, served you tea and water once seated. Seeing them running around the whole restaurant. They were friendly. Must try the hand pull noodles and will bring my family.

Our group walked in and we waited for around 5 minutes since the waiters were pretty busy with the tables. We ordered a pretty wide spread of noodles and dumplings. I personally ordered the fried pork bun and the xiao long bao. The fried pork buns can in a plate of three and they were huge. Unfortunately, because of how big the fried pork bun was, the meat was a little dry in the middle. It also didn't have much flavor which was disappointing. As for the xlb, it didn't come super hot but it tasted fine. For the price (there was 5 of us and our total was $150), I recommend going with a group since there's something for everyone!

Been wanting to try this place for awhile! Came here on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm (no wait). Got seated right away. Scan QR code on the table and ordered on our phones. Food came out in 15 mins which was pretty quick! Inside was pretty big; lots of tables. I got the beef noodle soup combo ($21) you get 2 lamb skewers and cucumber salad! Such a good deal! Portions are huge. Food was okay. Service was average, nothing special. Bill came out to $50. Would I come back? No. Parking is difficult in this area.

    Stir fried thin noodles

Arrived on a Monday at around 6:30pm and we were seated quickly. Ordered using the QR code and the food arrived fairly quickly. The portion sizes were decent. I ordered the Stir Fried Thin Noodles - good flavor and I liked the texture of the noodles. Had plenty to take home to eat for lunch the next day. Hubs ordered the Big Platter Chicken - quite a bit a chicken pieces and he liked the flavor. He also packed half of his dish to take home. Kiddo ordered the Beef Noodle combo which came with the cucumber salad and lamb skewers. He enjoyed the noodles and the cucumber salad was enough to share with the table. The lamb skewers had good flavor but he would've preferred them to be grilled a tad longer. The waitstaff brought us our dishes, but otherwise they didn't really check on us. We refilled our own water/tea cups and grabbed our own takeaway containers. Otherwise, food was enjoyable and we'd return to try other items.

Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. The place only seats around 20 people or so and they have a mandatory requirement that each person has to order a bowl of ramen. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. All the elements helped elevate the bowl. *spicy lamb miso cumin-4/5- the flavors of cumin and lamb just shone through here. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb get this. The fried eggplant was epic in this dish. Overall, not worth the wait, the vegan ramen can be avoided unless you are a vegan. Get the classic toripaitan as that was the best.

They allegedly have a few limited reservation slots but a majority of their service is first come first serve. You stand in line and wait. I would not recommend coming in large groups. In fact, I'd go as far as to say groups larger than 4 are basically contraindicated. The space inside is quite tight, think narrow, barstool-height seating and tiny tables. When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. The Galbi stew was exceptional. I liked that they had various levels of spiciness. We went with spicy and it had a nice kick that elevated the dish for me. The beef was very tender and flavorful and the veggies and rice cakes soaked up all the juices. And the cheese was so stretchy!
