This location has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I've tried to call in my order on several different occasions, and either they don't pick up or they pick up l, put me on hold, and never return to take my order. Even though I told myself I was done giving them any business, I called in tonight. After many rings a woman finally answered and put me on hold. After over 6 mins I hung up and called back, and again after many rings finally she picked up. I said I was trying to place an order but I think you forgot I was on the line (in a very calm nice voice). She then snaps at me and says "I didn't forget. I'm busy!" And I said "Ok well I waited over 6 mins so that's why I'm calling again" and she says "well you're just going to have to wait a few more mins!". I said no and hung up. I'm officially done. No apology for the wait, nothing.This woman should not be answering the phone with that attitude. read more

The place is pretty cool. The waffles were not that bad I asked for blue berry and they gave me blue berries on the side for my waffles ... The eggs were gross and not cooked all the way had a soggy plastic taste to it. Sausage wasn't cooked well either. I would recommend this place to anyone read more

I honestly don't get the four star rating on Yelp. I eat breakfast every other Saturday in Addison and have been a pretty loyal fan of Bic's. But I was getting bored with them and decided to try Norma's not far away. Based on the number of cars in the the parking lot and the crowd inside, and what I've read on Yelp, I thought I was in for a treat. Whether it was because they were having a bad day or they're just over-rated, I can't say. What I can say is that my Spanish omelet was underdone and contained scan little cheese. I asked for Chorizo sausage on the side and one would think that means a link, right? Nope. I got a side-dish of ground up Chorizo. Not very appetizing. The hash browns here are institutional and unimaginative. I asked for whole wheat toast and got white bread. Never mind that I sat at the counter in front of about 10 servers all getting their food from the kitchen and I had to actually flag one of them down to acknowledge me. The manager walked right by me, completely oblivious to the fact I had not been waited on, and I was the only guy sitting at the counter. I was in the mood for Norma's Café so I took the family there, last month. About all I can say on the positive side, is the rolls were good. The Fried Pickle appetizer's crust was unappealing and WAY TOO Salty, and only barely edible. The onion rings were just OK. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and according to the menu it was double dipped. The crust was oh so thin and pulled away from the meat. It had no real texture and it tasted and looked like the crust on the fried pickles. They need some good quality control measures implemented in the kitchen. I used to like Norma's, but I won't be going back anytime soon. Very Disappointed. read more

I eat at Norma's at least once a week if not twice a week and it is almost always great! Today, I ate lunch there with my regular group and I ordered catfish with black eyed peas and coleslaw. Rhonda our waitress was ok as far as service. I was wondering why it over thirty minutes to get our food??? I guess it might have been because of the lack of attentiveness of the waitress. She did come back and explain later that they had no coleslaw and I opted to get turnip greens as a sub. The food came out soon after that interaction. Upon review the food looked okay and I began to eat. Catfish was how I requested it. Greens were good, but when I began to eat the black eyed peas I noticed a white object in the pease, sharp could have possible been a finger nail or plastic. I showed the waitress "Rhonda" and she took it to the manager, which I observed from across the restaurant. She came back and offer a slice of pie. I declined the offer. The manager didn't even come offer apologies at all. When the check came we were charged for the catfish, which was not finished after I identified debris in the peas. I was completely disappointed since I frequent Norma's at several of their locations at least once a week. Disappointed at the service and lack of concern about the debris on the peas. I will get over it, but if their quality control allows for issues like that I worry someone might not catch something like that and could potentially be affected from a heath standpoint if eating something foreign. Certainly changes my opinion of a once great place to eat! read more

I had the Migas, husband had the bacon tacos. Everything came out nice & warm. Migas: onions, peppers weren't as cooked as other places, were very raw still. Beans were just like out of the can. Tacos: had lots chopped up bacon, tortillas seemed to be homemade, gotta have the cheese added. Both items were very bland in flavor. Very loud environment. Doubt will return. read more

Poor service and the waitress handed my child a hot plate which left his hand burned. I asked to order lunch and waitress told me only breakfast was available so I decided not to order food for myself. Before our breakfast plates were served the table next to us had lunch items served. I asked the waitress and she said that when we ordered lunch was not available. (Within 5-10 minutes) . I've been to Norma's Cafe before and always had a great experience but I have to say that I was extremely disappointed in my recent visit. The dinner rolls were cold and hard when normally they are delicious. I ordered the breakfast tacos and was not impressed. The chorizo was bland and I never even received the salsa that was supposed to come with it. My companion ordered the huevos rancheros and the eggs were not cooked as she ordered and the "salsa" was just gross. Our waitress delivered our food and then completely disappeared returning only at the end of our meal to ask what we needed. Obviously our drinks were empty and we needed napkins. My favorite comfort food place in the Dallas area. If you like good, country style food, this is the place. If you are on a diet, you may want to stay away. Glad they have opened a location in my area. Went for the first time today and had a very nice experience. Our server, Luis, was cheerful, accommodating -- and frankly, not hard to look at, ha ha! I was not as hungry as I 'should' have been and ordered a BLT and tots. All very good. The chocolate pie was out, so I ordered its fancier cousin, the chocolate Oreo pie. Same concept, except there are bits of Oreos riding high atop the famous merengue and more bits embedded in the chocolate pudding. What's not to like? My friend and I traded bites of pie. Her coconut crème slice was something to write home about and my chocolate was larrapin' good (That means 'really' good, for you Yankees!) The place is snug, cute, nicely appointed and there appeared to be lots of servers, so no one got ignored, as has been mentioned in other reviews. Can't wait to stop by for a big breakfast some day. First time at Norma's. Chicken Fried Steak ($9.99) was unremarkable. The Cream Gravy was the same old mix stuff you get everywhere around here. Came with 3 sides, I chose Onion Rings (just okay), Fried Okra (pass), and French Fries (above average). Husband had the Open Face Hot Beef Sandwich. ($9.99) Four half slices of bread topped with Mashed Potatoes (tasted boxed) Pot Roast (very good) and gravy (from a mix). His side was Green Beans (good). The Pies did not look awesome but since that is Norma's claim to fame we had to try a slice. We ordered a slice of Buttermilk ($3.49) They took it off our check so I won't go into how awful the taste and texture were. The crust was way over cooked and overworked. Thankfully the Coffee was very good and washed the bite of pie down. The complimentary rolls and the corn bread were both bad. We were there at an off hour so they were not fresh. The corn muffins still shouldn't have been so over done. I'm sure they were good a couple of hours earlier. Disappointing visit. read more

If you like southern cooking, this place is for you. If you like real food, stay the heck away! I've had to eat here three times and have always felt it was a waste of money and appetite. The last time, I'd been craving pancakes and link sausage for several weeks. That's what I ordered. I got buckwheat cakes (bitter) and bacon. After two waitresses spent 8 minutes trying to fix it, I got sausage patties which I refused and since they finally decided that they don't have link sausage, I "settled for bisquits and gravy, hoping the sausage would be edible if it was drowned in gravy. No dice, it was peppered so hot, it would have taken a gallon of milk to extinguish the burning in my throat. As with all southern cooking, the natural flavors are removed (veggies, e.g.) and the only spices used are ones that burn your mouth. The people are gregarious, though. read more

I asked "How are the huevos rancheros?" and her reply was "How do you want those eggs?" I said "No, I asked 'How are your huevos rancheros?" Norma's Cafe catering was a great decision for a recent early Thanksgiving / family reunion celebration when our large family from all over the state gathered in Dallas ...I wish there were locations in Austin!!! WOW! The smoked turkey was better than any I have ever tasted ....even the specialty order ones from Tyler. The roasted turkey was juicy and "melt in your mouth" and the smothered pork was a new and tasty addition to the menu. We all loved the sides of dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn bread, etc...all was just as good as homemade. (Maybe even better!! ) All the items had a made with love homemade taste which our family has enjoyed and counted on from Norma's Cafe for years. Norma's Cafe is our Dallas area favorite family restaurant by far...and the catering is always dependable. We have been to each location and all are tried and true for a great meal at a very reasonable cost. ...and thank you Norma's for supporting my veteran husband today. When the description does not meet the actual plate then I have a problem...I ordered the open faced pot roast...it stated that it was piled high with roast beef but mines was not. The peach cobbler was tough from the peaches to the crust as if it had been sitting there. I will say that the rolls were good and brought to the table warm. read more

We Have known of the other normas in oak cliff for years it is excellent. The normas on Dallas Parkway the food was unbelievably aweful, they brought me chicken instead of a chicken fried steak and no veggies on one dinner, when I did get it finally the chicken fried steak was rubbery just barly warm and tasted old like it had been precooked ahead, my wifes patty melts bread was burnt and literally dripping with grease and the hamburgers on it were raw. this food was like a 6 year old kid was the cook we will not ever try that location again that is for sure it was terrible. Probably the worst food we have had in some years and we eat out at least 3 to 5 times per week. The service was excellent however in fact it was over the top and the pie was delicious a little pricey but good. Good luck with that place. read more

My husband and I ate at Norma's Cafe today. Our food was delicious and our waiter, Raul Jr., was even better. He served us with a smile and great attitude. We never had to ask for a thing. I have been in there a couple of times, because I thought maybe I went on a bad day the first visit. I have found that the food does not taste fresh, is so full of bacon (more bacon than the vegetable it is in). All the fried stuff tastes double fried! The girl next to me had a band-aid, yes a band-aid cooked into her chicken fried steak. The manager only offered to cook her another one. Yes, I'd like another one with a band-aid.. The managers seem clueless, and it really doesn't seem all together there. The atmosphere seems to just be that of chaotic. It was almost comical when the manager was making a scene to one server in a very ridiculous tone that she will be written up for taking straws out unless the guests ask for them!!?? Really? We have to ASK for a straw in a restaurant. Gimme a break! It's not worth the greasy food, all the salt and bacon in such an environment that seems almost hostile for the employees. Maybe that's why the food is not fresh and the service isn't at a faster pace! I would think twice before spending your money here. I don't know about the other Norma's but this one is a waste of time! read more
