I had never heard of this place before, and I'm so glad I decided to give it a try. From the moment I walked in, I loved the atmosphere. The restaurant has a charming retro diner feel that instantly transports you to another era. It's the kind of place that feels nostalgic, welcoming, and full of character. The staff was incredibly friendly throughout my visit, and one thing that stood out to me was seeing so many regular customers. It really felt like a neighborhood staple, which is always a great sign. The food was very good, the portions were satisfying, and the prices felt fair for the quality and quantity you receive. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I'm happy to have discovered this hidden gem. I can definitely see myself coming back.

I've been wanting to come to Norm's for years because the mid-20th-century Googie architecture is way cool to a Generation Jones type like me. I had seen it in recent films with Keke Palmer and Eddie Murphy. Built in 1957, it retains its vintage Jetsons-inspired style with its space-age signage, curved roofline, and bright orange furnishings. While waiting for our WeHo hotel to be ready, Jamie W and I strolled on La Cienega to get here. Business was percolating and I was struck how quickly our server Maricela seated us at a fairly large table. She handed us laminated menus that were an astonishing 21 pages long each. Needless to say, it took us a while to pore through all the huge and reasonably priced choices. Jamie decided on the $19.99 Country Fried Steak, a large, flattened beefsteak covered in thick country gravy accompanied by hash browns and sauteed squash and zucchini (Photo 7). It came generously with a bowl of Seafood Gumbo (Photo 10) and a Romaine Salad with ranch dressing (Photo 8). My order was the $20.99 1/2-lb New York Steak & Eggs, quite a cut of meat prepared medium-rare accompanied by hash browns and a pair of sunny-side eggs (Photo 6). Hefty as the plate was, I went for the Two Buttermilk Pancakes instead of toast (Photo 9). The truck driver portions reflected solid, rib-sticking food better than most of the competition. FOOD - 4 stars...mammoth portions, good prices, and frankly satisfying for a big breakfast appetite AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...the Googie touches are really unique even if everything else is formica SERVICE - 5 stars...Maricela is a veteran always one step ahead of us...the payment tablet was a nice touch TOTAL - 4 stars...if you're ravenous, come here...they're open 24/7! Excellent customer service and food! Anita was great and always made sure our coffee was full. Biscuits and gravy was great too. Large servings for a good price. Maple syrup made my pancakes taste like maple donuts

Norms is a popular chain in LA, and as a local, it's almost a rite of passage to visit at least once. It's become the unofficial diner of LA. While there are closer locations, I've always wanted to experience the googie architecture here. Seeing it up close didn't disappoint; it was beautiful, especially lit up in the early morning. I came here expecting great food after all the architecture appreciation! I knew I wanted Steak and Eggs, a Norms classic. The waitress recommended the Country Fried Steak, and being a fan, I ordered it. It was very crunchy, but not quite what I expected. The patty had onions, and the gravy was good. I was disappointed the hash browns were soft and mushy, unlike the menu description of golden brown. The pancakes were solid and fluffy, just as they should be. However, the service was slow, and I wasn't checked on at all. Maybe I'm being picky, but the service was lacking. The food was okay, and I'd give it a 3, but the architecture makes it a 4-star experience. I'm not rushing back, but if I do, I'll try the steak and eggs and ask for golden brown hash browns.

Fun Fact - this location is featured in the 2026 movie "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die" While they actually shot the inside diner scenes elsewhere, the outside scenes feature this location! It's been a while since I've been to Norms and I honestly don't know why I stayed away for so many years because it is such a classic LA diner with lots of character. I was truly shocked at just how big their menu is and the sheer variety. They honestly have a little bit of everything - breakfast (duh), steak, chicken, salmon, salads, pasta, sandwiches, and more. I came for breakfast and got the Eggs Benedict and Chocolate Chip Pancakes. It was so much food I couldn't finish it all but very tasty. I ordered the hashbrowns loaded with onions and cheese and I'd highly recommend that to get the extra flavor. Prices are good especially for this part of LA. I sat at the counter which was fun to watch the chefs work their magic and see all of the plates come out. They did take a little while to bring our food out though and I noticed plates would commonly sit ready to be delivered to tables for 10 mins+. They're really busy but could improve on getting hot food to customers tables faster. Overall still a good experience and they have a medium sized parking lot attached to the restaurant which you can park at for free.

They have some interesting new items on the menu. AYCE Soup 'n' Salad 'n' Bread for $10. That's a good deal. I like Norms

This place is great after a night out! Have also gotten delivery a couple times. It is reasonably priced and the portions are big, everything I've tried has been good so far (except for the gravy one night tasted off). I've gotten burgers, the appetizer sampler, chilaquiles, and a couple other things. Went back after going vegan and was able to make it work. The service is usually pretty fast and friendly, they also have a guard there to kick out the drunks.

Ambiance & Experience Normally, this establishment is a reliable go-to, but this recent visit fell short of the mark. The atmosphere felt sluggish, and the usual welcoming energy was missing, making the overall experience far less pleasant than previous visits. The Food The food was just "okay" this time around. While it wasn't necessarily bad, it certainly wasn't the best it has been. Given the long wait time for the plates to arrive at the table, I expected the quality to be higher, but it lacked the consistency I usually enjoy here. Service & Professionalism The service was the most disappointing aspect of the meal. Our server, Brenda, appeared as though she did not want to be there. This lack of enthusiasm translated into several logistical issues: * Delays: There was a significant wait for our drinks, and the food took an unusually long time to arrive. * Lack of Attention: I eventually had to flag down a different server just to check on the status of our order. * Professional Appearance: From a hygiene and industry-standard perspective, it was disappointing to see a server with loose, untied hair. In a food service environment, hair should be pulled back or secured for safety and presentation. * The Check: We were unable to get our server's attention at the end of the meal and had to approach another staff member just to pay our bill. Final Thoughts I've always enjoyed my time at Norms in the past, but the combination of sloppy service and mediocre food made this visit very underwhelming. I hope this was just an "off" night for the team and that they can return to their usual standards soon.

    BIGGER BETTER BREAKFAST SANDWICH

The husband wanted a no-frills satisfying breakfast. We were hanging out in the West Hollywood area after church, so I took him to NORMS. This was his first visit. The parking lot was full when we arrived. We found a spot at our second drive around. Although there were a few people waiting when we checked in, we were seated in just a few minutes. My husband ordered The Bigger Better Breakfast Sandwich (+ avocado) and Fries. I chose the Melting Pot Omelette with Hashbrowns and Buttermilk Hotcakes. It all came out pretty quick. Nice portions overall, except for the added avocado which was so small that our server thought it was missing until she lifted the bun to find the skimpy slices (I moved them out to be visible for the pic). It was all very good nonetheless -- fresh, well seasoned and comforting. Our server Maricela was excellent -- attentive and friendly. The young lady at the register who checked us in was then the person who handled our check. Unfortunately she seemed more interested in socializing with her co-workers than putting forward good customer service. She didn't smile, greet or thanked us. The rest of the staff was ok. Honestly, we didn't expect that much from NORMS in terms of service, so we weren't that disappointed. The husband was happy enough with the experience. We may try a different location next time though.

NORMS (established in 1949 & opened this location in 1957) is one of more well-known 24-7 diners in Southern California and this location is the original & flagship NORMS location. The ownership was sold to outside investor Jim Balis (CapitalSpring) in 2015. This location was designated as a Historic-Cultural Monument in 2015. In Dec 2024, it was reported that the lease for this location is up in 2026 and the plan is converting the building into a Raising Cane's in 2027. Due to public outcry, the conversion plan is currently put on a hold indefinitely. [Parking]: Easy and free private parking lot, but the lot was completely packed on Sunday at 11:30 AM. [Ordering & service]: I walked and and told the staff my name so that I could be on the waitlist. I didn't wait too long and was able to grab a seat at the counter. Service was alright and I paid my check at the front entrance cashier counter. [Menu]: The menu covers all of basic American breakfast that one can think of, but popular options include Steak& Eggs, French Toast, and Country Fried Steak. Each Steak & Eggs order is served with 2 eggs, choice of (1) golden hash browns / home fries / fresh fruit & (2) choice of toast / English muffin / biscuit & gravy / 2 buttermilk hotcakes. 2 buttermilk hotcakes (pancakes) = default option. *** 6 Ounce Sirloin Steak & Eggs (medium rare, 510 cal + golden hash browns + 2 buttermilk hotcakes - $18.99): Eggs were too runny and steak tasted alright. Not a fan of hash browns as it tasted too soggy. Hotcakes tasted really bland. In hindsight, I should've get anything (e.g. toast / English muffin / biscuit & gravy) but hotcakes. *** The only things this place has going for it are historical significance, generous food portion, and easy parking. Food was left much to be desired.

Not kidding - I've literally not visited this Norms in the last 50 years and I used to be a regular there. Time seems to have stood still there. I walked in the door and it seemed like yesterday I was last here. We stopped by after a theater event at 11 pm on a Saturday night it was pretty crowded. Despite the crowd it was amazingly quiet. We were seated immediately. The restaurant was clean and nicely lit. Last time I was here it was getting a little dingy. So the new look was very inviting. Service was a bit slow, but when Consuelo made it to our table, the efficiency machine kicked right in. I ordered the top sirloin steak and eggs and received a very generous portion. The steak was amazingly tender and cooked perfectly. It came with eggs and a huge side of has browns. Hash browns can easily be overcooked but these were spot on. The other patrons added to the experience. It was like a melting pot of America. Every race and ethnicity was represented. Numerous languages being spoken. But nothing annoying. Everyone was respectful. Consuelo was an excellent waitress. Despite working very hard she kept an beautiful smile and regularly checked on our satisfaction I now usually go to a different Norms closer to my home. But it was special going here last night. A lot of memories going there years ago with my friends. It's a family restaurant. Everyone dining there last night looked happy and satisfied.

I ordered a loaded carne asada-style dish served over fresh greens, and every bite was intentional and well-balanced. The beef was deeply seasoned, tender, and slightly crisped in places, which added great texture. It was topped with a creamy, slightly tangy sauce that tied everything together without overpowering the meat. What really stood out was the attention to detail: pickled red onions for acidity, fresh greens for balance, and a side of house-made pickled vegetables that cut through the richness perfectly. The tostada-style side topped with avocado, herbs, and onions added a nice contrast--crunchy, fresh, and vibrant. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Portion size was generous without feeling excessive, and the dish felt hearty yet clean. I paired it with a refreshing citrus drink that complemented the meal well and kept everything light. Overall, this is the kind of place where you can tell the kitchen cares about execution. Bold flavors, great balance, and a presentation that looks just as good as it tastes. I would absolutely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a satisfying, well-crafted meal

She handed us menus and told us to order at the counter when we were ready and they serve breakfast all day. The menu can feel a little intimidating. It has Mexican, Guatemalan and Salvadoran which I am not all that familiar with. We landed on a couple of pupusas and a couple of fish tacos. There are signs letting you know the food is cooked to order and to expect a 20-25 minute wait, so at least they set expectations up front. The dining room was small but warm and colorful and there were additional tables set up just outside the front door. We had no problem finding a table inside. When the food came out, the portions were generous and the presentation was better than you'd expect from a humble neighborhood grill. The pupusas were crisp on the outside with plenty of filling, and the fish tacos were fresh and well-seasoned -- nothing greasy, nothing bland. Friendly service, solid food, and a spot I'd definitely come back to now that I know what to order.

Innards were dry and the ends of the tortilla were stale. Plus the guac was flavorless and...frozen? In LA, I believe screwing up the simplest of guac recipes is sacrilege. Is anyone hyping this place? The staff weren't interested, and the food is terrible. Really, though, I couldn't care less about the staff. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the cashier could punch me in the face, but as long as the food's primo, I'm fine. Oi. LA has some of the BEST food in the nation! Some are even claiming, "Better than NYC." Michelin stars and Bib Gourmand recs cascade through our city, so why waste your time (and money!) on anything less than spectacular.

It's the kind of place we keep coming back to and always enjoy. A special shoutout to Oko, our server, who was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly, attentive, and made our brunch even better. Great service makes such a difference, and she went above and beyond. Thank you, Bacari, for another wonderful meal, we can't wait to come back!

Even with our rez, we still waited almost 20 minutes to be seated. The only other thing I did not like about this restaurant (and not much they can do to change it) is that there are only two bathrooms which get veryyyy busy and there is no room to stand and wait so you're kind of in the way the whole time. It's small dish style, so super fun to come with a group and try a bunch of different things. They had a ton of great options for vegetarians! It was a bit chilly outside but they have a lot of heated lamps on which helps a lot. I loved everything we ordered but I think my favorites (as a vegetarian) were the brussel sprouts, salatim, and the elote. The cashew pate and beet dip with the salatim were realllly good. The brussel sprouts were crispy and had a yummy sauce. The beet salad was good but I wanted it to have more of the goat cheese spread. The cauliflower was also really good - roasted and a little spicy. They had a fun list of cocktails and mocktails as well. The food came out at a good pace and I left feeling veryyy full. They were really sweet and even comped the dessert for our party which was very nice. We had the bread pudding and it was sooo good. I highly recommend eating here! It's an experience!

I am always on the search for breakfast burritos. Their breakfast burrito made it on my top 3. I have not tried their other food items, but I will be back to try them. I have not heard one bad thing about their food. If you are thinking about getting a breakfast burrito, please go with the Dialog breakfast burrito. The egg is so fluffy, the sausage is thick and tasty, and the spicy ketchup gives it a kick of heat. You can also help yourself to an unlimited amount of aji verde and chiptotle aioli sauce! I really enjoyed both options on the burrito. Their beverages all look delicious. My friend tried the Wake N Date and described it to be a perfect balance of sweetness. It was filling but did not leave her bloated after. The protein also did not have a weird aftertaste like others may have. I had the triple cin latte and I could not get over how delicious and creamy this was. Parking can be tricky because it's West Hollywood (metered parking). They have indoor and outdoor seating - pet friendly. I will be back soon!!

When I tried to take a sip, the lid shifted and the hot tea spilled onto my leg, burning my lip and causing a significant burn on my leg. Over the next several days, the burn blistered and the skin peeled. I contacted the café privately and sent photos because I wanted to give them an opportunity to respond before posting publicly. Unfortunately, I never received a reply. I'm sharing this so others can be aware. Hot beverages should be served safely, lids should be secure, and customers should be warned when a drink is hot enough to cause burns. I hope the café takes this seriously and improves its safety practices.
