Dined in on a Saturday morning. Don't let the crowd scare you away, the wait actually goes by quick. If you are looking for an affordable breakfast diner, then Norms is for you. I got a large portion of breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, hashbrowns and Pancakes) for just $7.99. Most of the specialty drinks such as Hot Cocoa and Orange Juice come with free refills as well, so that's cool. Before coming here my group was actually at The Original Pancake House down the street but the wait was ridiculous and everything on their menu was pricey so we decided to leave and come here instead. The quality of the food here at Norms is average, nothing to rave about and no different from a Dennys. But the service was great. Our waitress wasn't really personable or enthusiastic but she sure was good at her job. She kept the drinks filled at all times and was always there to check in on us if we needed anything, so I cannot complain at all. I believe her name was Liza? My first time going to a "special" pricing day event. NEVER again! Woke up early, in a great mood and headed to Norm's EARLY. Got in line, ordered, waited patiently. First shitty experience: went inside to order a coffee (to sip on and warm up while waiting in line for my order), right away, a staff member tells me I should've added it to my order when I placed it! Sucks! So I went to Starbucks (I wasn't going to consume more from Norm's with that attitude). It was a damn coffee pour! Really? Second and shittiest experience: Two customers behind me and I began noticing that they continuously were calling other customers behind us with their orders ready. I go inside and asked about my order, the host/cashier said yours is there, it's coming up soon. I went back out. Again, a customer three spots behind me was called, so I go back inside and the same host/cashier tells me my order is being bagged to wait just a little bit (he DID not ask me to wait outside), the "MANAGER" very RUDELY tells me ALOUD to wait outside, and keeps yelling it to me as I'm waiting for people to go out and come in so I can get through! Idiot! When my name is finally called, I go inside, he's now at the register and I ask if he's the manager. He said he was, so I continued to let him know how unprofessional he handled my situation. I explained to him that they had skipped me and called about 7 customers behind me, and what did he do? Instead of trying to solve the issue, he argued with me. He denied having skipped anyone and explained how busy they were! Do I care at this point? Hell NO! I got up early, went there, placed my order and people who arrived after me were helped sooner, so NO, why should I care! My time wasn't respected!!! It's his way of handling the situation that pissed me off! By the way, I didn't mention I took my son and he was now late for online school! ‍ To the manager: This is the effective way of handling such situation, "I apologize, let me see what is going on", then go SEE what time I placed my order, compare with those already dispatched and REALIZED you DID skip me! At that point, you should've given me my order and not yelled at me to wait outside! Thank God I have sufficient to eat at home, but I thought it would be a "great" idea to try it out! Never again! Nothing has changed in the 20+ years this restaurant has been here. Food is decent, service is "meh" at best. But the thing that gets me is this "service charge" crap. RAISE THE PRICES. Always get a lot of food for a good price at Norms. Don't care of the vegetable choice of the restaurant...green beans, This location is always busy, but we usually get seated within a 5 to 10 minutes. Breakfast served all day is a plus! Prices are good on most items but there is steeper price items. Most of the servers i've had have always been very good and accommodating. Times to avoid....Sundays after church. Any Dinner times 4-7 & Friday And Saturdays after bars close! On a recent visit they told me they only have strawberry lemonade and not regular, Whats up with that? read more

It went downhill from the moment we walked in. Instead of a greeting we got a snapped "How many?" from the chick behind the cashier. We were seated at a remote corner by another dude who mumbled who knows what and just left. Cue for our server Mary to come to our table and proceeds to talk to us like we were interrupting her from doing something more important. Took our order came back dropped off our waters, soups and salads and left. Comes back drops off the check before our food even made it to the table. Alrighty then... Food made it to the table, chick asks if we need ketchup, we say yes, then she never brings any. Had to get some from an empty table behind us. That's the last time we see her. Our glasses are empty, ran out of sauce, and still no one to come ask if we need anything yet I see home girl just chilling at the counter. My sister had to walk up to the counter to ask for more water. My visiting mother is fuming on her end and our neighboring table has 3 different servers waiting on them hand and foot and us brown people in the corner can't even get any water. When paying the same girl that barked at us at the beginning asked how our meal was and I said it was ruined by the service. People get surprised when you answer their question honestly. Love Norms restaurants and this one in particular. Every time I've come here it's been a really great experience. The staff waiters to managers have greated me and they seem like great people making this place feel like home. The food is fantastic along with decent prices. I used to come here all the time because they are open all night which is a Plus! Also because the prices are great. However, the food is not always so great. You pretty much get what you pay for. The steaks are so so. Sandwiches are also okay. The Caesar salad is the best thing there. I have tried some of their soups and they are pretty good. Customer service is a hit and miss. Most of the time its not good. They take forever to come to your table and also forget to pour refills. I also never see a floor manager around. Norms is just that, Norms. Chained diner that's opened 24 hours. Back when I was younger, Norms was my go-to place after drinking all night at the bar. So many drunken memories here that Norms will always have a special place in my heart. Yeah, food isn't always so great, but it's decent and so cheap. I do love their spicy gumbo soup though. I know it's not authentic gumbo, but I love it. It's not thick or flavorful as gumbo is supposed to be, but the light broth with the right amount of flavoring makes it great to eat! I can't eat a lot of real gumbo, but this one I can eat bowls of! So if you're looking for late night eats that's super cheap, Norms is the perfect place! read more

For being Christmas day and totally packed, this place really knows how to take care of business. We were quoted at 20-30 minute wait and we were sat in 25 minutes. We sat down and were served immediately. Coffee comes with the whole carafe, so you don't have to bother with needing refills all the time. Food came quickly. It was hot and tasty. The PATTY MELT WITH ONIONS at any norms has NEVER let me down. Best thing on the menu, hands down. Good job, Norms. You never close and I never get sick of you. read more

This is by far the worst restaurant ever. Not only was the food bad but the "service" was bad. So one morning my mother and I decided to eat here. The waitress sat us on a table near the kitchen, so it was really noisy from all the fuzz that was happening in the kitchen. I ordered some starters and the waitress took forever to bring them. When it arrived it was pretty bad. So we finally got our food after waiting for awhile ( the place was not even that packed) the food was pretty bad, it was not fresh, it tasted like microwaved food. So the worse part came, me and my mom were still eating our food (our plates were almost empty) and the waitress came up to our table and literally TOOK OUR PLATES AWAY! We even had food on forks from when she picked them up! All she said was, "Oh looks like you guys are done!" and took them away! We were so angry that we decided to leave this crappy place. I love coming to norms this place is great!! Unfortunately that is not the case for this norms. My Belgian waffle was not crispy enough the ham was too salty with no flavor. We got seated right next to the kitchen thank u banging of the dishes every two seconds. The waiter was pleasant this review is based on the awful food!!! I'll give it 3 stars because for the most part things are ok here, ok service, ok food, ok prices. Last night though we had to walk out, the first time ever for me I must add. The waitress kept muttering under her breath and seemed pissed that we wanted anything special like water, or extra crispy hash browns. What finally did it was she brought my husband a glass of water and it was dirty inside and out and had something floating in it. We paid for our coffee and soda and canceled our food and left. This is the cleanest "Norm's" I've been to. Nothing is dirty or outdated like the other ones. They're professional and always greet you with a smile. (The one in Alhambra is so bad!) Great place to go after a movie with your buddies or after your prom. Yes, it's open 24 hours and they never close even for holidays. You'll find people there at ALL hours of the day. I've been there at 3am and people are having dinner or early breakfasts. You get a lot of food for the price. Period. They have a variety of foods and they always have specials. Their soup of the day changes but this is the only Norm's that always has their famous "Gumbo" AND their soup of the day! The only time you have to wait a bit is on the usual times...after church, breakfast on holidays, saturday nights, etc. There's a nice elderly waitress that sometimes forgets your drink but that doesn't matter to me. read more

This restaurant doesn't deserve any stars but I had to put one because the app wouldnt let me continue....number one the service sucks, the food came out cold, and I mean come on does it really take 50min for a freaking Belgian waffle. I mean a family of six got their full meal consisting of steaks and chicken before the waffle came out, ridiculous!! They have this new burger called the bahn mi burger the picture is soooooo decieving ...the burger came out it was a flat patty two pieces of shredded carrots and two zuccinni spears. Used to be better service here. Ordered the steak and eggs with tomato slices, sourdough no butter. Steak was perfect. Eggs were cold, toast was burned and buttered. Only got 2 lousy slices of tomato on a bed of lettuce (last time I received multiple slices of tomato). The server did offer to make another set of toast, but why waste the food by tossing it out? I agree with Christopher E.'s assessment that this is a Denny's competitor that pretty much blows it out of the water. This is the only Norm's I've ever been to, so I cannot say for sure if how they do things here is indicative of the quality demonstrated by other "branches". I generally stick with breakfast dishes since I'm always on the lookout for great pancake places. This one will definitely be on that list. Hashed brown potatoes definitely did not seem like the kind that come from out of a grocer's freezer. Like Amanda Y. mentioned, you get a heckuva lot of food for the price. I am so looking forward to when they open one near where I work. It's definitely a nice post-event meetup spot during after-hours. Don't confuse it with some other Norm's business that is somewhere just up the street. read more

If I could give less stars... First, service was slow despite the restaurant being half empty. Second, burning our bacon? That's a crime. Then serving it to us like that? Inexcusable. Third, when our food came out it was cold and greasy. For example, our side of fries had half an inch of oil in the basket with them. It was disgusting. Finally, we asked if it's normal for fries to be served in a pool of grease, the waiter said no and took it off the table. But not off the bill. If it is inedible, why charge us for it? RUDE! My family and I dined her on a busy Saturday night, the debit/credit machine was down and the 3 employees argued behind the cashier while the line to pay got longer and longer. This is definitely the place to go for some late night dining. But being that I'm getting on in years, it's now a Saturday/Sunday morning breakfast spot. Depending on when you go, you can either walk right in or wait 40 minutes to get a table. While the wait sometimes feels excessive, feel comfort in knowing that you will receive excellent attention and good food. And if anything, you must go to at least see the awesome waitress with the bangs. I don't think I need to explain that she resembles a salt-and-pepper Woody Woodpecker because you will definitely know her when you see her. This was my first time ever visiting a NORMS Restaurant. In the past, my friends had described it as a cheaper Denny's. Upon entering the restaurant, it was very packed on a Saturday morning. I had their steak and egg special which included hash browns, sausage links, bacon, and either hotcakes or toast for only $10-11! I was impressed on how affordable the meal was. When I received my meal, I noticed it was a different cut of steak that i'm normally used to. It was still delicious nonetheless. Their bacon was interesting. I wasn't sure if it was turkey bacon which made it taste off or if it was still uncooked. Their sourdough bread was so good! Their sausages taste like normal sausages. I would definitely visit Norms again if I was looking for a cheap place to eat breakfast. read more

It's been many years since I've eaten at Norms. I use to stop here with friends for late night eats after a night out. I dont know, I probably havent eaten here in at least 7 years. So after going to a concert I told my friend "lets stop at norms for something to eat". I am obviously a different person then the guy that ate here 7 yrs ago. Upon entering I noticed right away how outdated and unappealing the decor and interior of this place is. It is so run down that it immediately set the tone for what would be an terrible dining experience. Having been seated in a booth way in the back it was really noisey and the lighting was horrible. So the waitress brings the menu and I decide I will have some breakfast. I order the french toast and eggs, substituting the eggs for egg beaters. About 5 mins after ordering the food arrives. This is the most pathetic looking french toast and eggs I have ever seen. Visually the food is very unappealing. I take a few bites of the french toast and it it horrible. I cant really put it into words but just awful quality. I eat about 1 slice of the 3 that are served and take a few nibbles of the eggs. regardless of the money spent there is no way I am eating this garbage. So we leave and I am not feeling so good after what I just ate and vomit the french toast in the parking lot. The perfect ending to what was a terrible dining experience. I would rather starve to death then eat here again. read more

"Don't forget the pastrami!!" ... oh... wait... wrong Norm's... Norm's is the local diner staple in these parts, with a good amount of locations peppered throughout the area. The place always seems busy, so it must be good... Norm's is good. It's not amazing, but it satisfies where it needs to. I will hand it to them that they know how to do breakfast right, and with their Bigger, Better Breakfast special, you can't go wrong. Lunch and dinner offerings are okay, again, sticking with the advertised specials seems the right way to go. As far as the service goes, I'd say that the wait staff here is efficient. Especially in a diner setting where the severs have to do a LOT, they do a good job (again, they seem to shine better at breakfast than at any other time of day). They do what they have to in order to get the job done, and that's about it. I'm not going to expect someone here to bend over backwards for me. Overall, it's a great place to swing by if you can for a weekday breakfast, and the price is right. read more

This is the go to after a night of drink and partying and everyone from those in high school to those in the home know that you hit this place instead of Denney's when back in whittier before the sun rises. Can get crowded on a late Fri or Sat. night and can have a wait for a large group. Sat & Sun. Everything that Lennys does is here, It's just done wayyyy more betterly. (yeah, I said it...and I said it like that.) Anyhow. My favs are the French Toast, the Bigger Better Breakfast, steak and eggs for a near downtown Las Vegas casino price and the GIANORMOUS Hot Fudge Sundae. At night it packed with a bunch of college/high schooler/ drunkards. In the daylight hours it is the Senior Citizen HOT spot. They aren't freaking each other (you are welcome for that mental image) but they all seem to flock here. I think they dig the 50's-ish diner feel of the place.
