Before moving to McLean two years ago, we've been to several North Italia in the south and mid-west and had a mixed view about this chain store as the quality varies significantly store by store. So we weren't eager to visit this one in the neighborhood until a friend visiting brought up this idea. And I have to say that our experience was very pleasant overall. Grease and ice. Well, alright, the burrata anolini wasn't ice cold, but it was definitely colder than the warm plate on which it was served, so my guess is that they're serving from pre-cooked stock (not unexpected) at a temperature that's probably a bit lower than it perhaps should be (actually unexpected); it felt like it was room temperature by the time it came out. The grease? That was the truffled garlic bread, which by the bottom of the searing hot cast iron skillet felt like it was more oil by weight than bread. Still tasted alright, but now I understand the 1000+ calorie measurement for this one specific appetizer. They might actually save money if they dump less (what I'm assuming is truffled) oil into it. honestly. Vibe? Beautiful. Love the venue, could have a bit more light but I can't blame them for keeping the lighting a bit dim - otherwise you'd notice the absence of steam rising from the supposedly hot food. Be prepared to pay for street or lot parking; it's 8 bucks for two hours. If anyone knows if the garage is validated, feel free to volunteer, but that option wasn't immediately obvious. I have this gripe with The Boro more broadly, so I'm not factoring it into this review. Really, that's about it. Five stars, minus two for the quality of food. Service was about what I'd expect for a restaurant like this: good, though nothing spectacular. read more

Went on a date night here with my partner and we both really enjoyed it! We usually don't eat Italian food but the food we got was delicious. For starters we had that truffle garlic bread, so good! The eggplant parm was amazing and I don't even eat eggplant. I branched out and tried that squid ink pasta and surprisingly loved it. It wasn't fishy or had that weird seafood taste. Decent Italian option - pasta is good and filling and comes with a good portion. Service was quick and attentive. Prices are on the high end but then again you're in the Boro. Ambiance was beautiful and a great Chic date night location. Drinks were delicious and well made. Both bartenders male and female were so friendly and beautiful. Overall a good lunch experience. Social distancing was top-notch. The restaurant was really clean and it shows. Our server Marie G was very patient with us, and suggested few things on the menu. For drinks, I ordered the Ginger Blossom Margarita. Unfortunately, happy hour is only served at the bar. I got crispy calamari for appetizer and sauce is optional. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs which was very filling. My friend got the roasted salmon. The green sauce that came with it, I think it's called pesto farro was way too salty. We were a party of five. Four of us had excellent meals, but the fifth ordered the pizza of the day, which was some sort of white pizza with asparagus and mushrooms. She didn't send it back, but I would have. She offered me a piece and it was the absolute worst pizza I have tasted in decades. Two of us had the Branzini which was excellent. Another had the braized short ribs which also was excellent. And the fifth had the Caesar salad which was extremely good. We were especially impressed with the selection of vegetables served with the entrees. The selection was varied (fennel, snap peas, cauliflower, brocolini, roasted carrot) quite different from the usual bland assortment of vegetables one all too often gets. The desserts were quite good as well. We were seated at a round table at a comfortable distance from nearby tables. Service was a bit slow, but otherwise very good. read more

Went on a busy Saturday night- very lively and great fun ambiance. We brought a toddler with no problems. Food was very good- we got chicken parmigiana, pasta bolognese, fried calamari and a seafood pasta. The best part was our incredibly attentive and super friendly server, Alexander! I came here for my anniversary dinner with my wife. We got the Crispy Calamari and the Olive Oil Bread for appetizers, they were both done really well and tasted amazing. You could tell the olive oil was good and not pungent at all. For our main course we got the Glazed Short Rib Cavatelli and the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka. The presentation was lovely and the taste was phenomenal. The meat of the Short Rib just melted in my mouth. And the Spicy pasta definitely had a kick to it. For desert we got the Hazelnut Torta, which was fantastic. Perfect balance of hazelnut and other flavors. We also had their well made drinks and they were awesome. Only one con: the drinks definitely took a while, but it was just a busy night. Would definitely recommend! read more

We used to order from their DC location for work meals. I liked their pasta and white truffle bread. I have only ordered from this location a couple of times. Although it had been a while, my first time here was awful. I ordered online for a pickup. It was around dinner time. I showed up and realized that they forgot about my order. I had to wait another 25 minutes at the restaurant. I was not given any type of apology or formal explanation. It seemed that they made the white truffle garlic bread and then forgot about the rest of my order. Anyway, the garlic bread was cold and felt like leftovers from the day before. The pasta was fine. My second visit was more recent. I ordered chicken pesto pasta, and it was great. I also tried their pizza, pretty decent. However, I do find their food to be on the saltier side. read more

I went with my mom and ordered the 2 Spicy Rigatoni Vodka to go. We can't eat pork(religious tradition) so we asked them to replace the Italian sausage with chicken. They charged me $6 per meal for the replacement. Really left a bad taste in my mouth having to pay for an item I wasn't even receiving, then having to pay an additional charge for a replacement meat. This branch is good food wise just like the other ones in the area! However the service here is incredibly slow even on a weekend night when not all of the tables were full. It took forever to get drinks and to get our orders in. Our waitress was pretty MIA and I have no clue where she was during our dinner. That made the dining experience kind of irritating. But besides that the ambience is great, I like that this is a bigger restaurant. I always get the truffle garlic bread and it is delicious! And I had the chicken pasta with cream sauce that I usually get as well. I like this chain but the Reston branch definitely has more attentive servers. read more

The perfect location to celebrate a birthday. We had an early seating at 5:30 and by 6:00, the restaurant was buzzing. Parking in the garage across the street is validated for 90 minutes. Manager Liz and Server Frieda took excellent care of us. Too cold? Liz turns down the air conditioning. Need more time to decide? Frieda returns at just the right moment. My husband and I have been eyeing down this location for quite a while now! We frequent the Whole Foods next door, and this pregnancy has gotten me the ultimate craving for everything cheese. So we ventured out to North Italia for a late lunch over Memorial Day weekend. Reservation was super easy to make (we've come during a busier hour on a Friday evening, wait time was 15 minutes of which is not bad at all!). Immediately we were seated and I was in awe of the beautiful inner decor. Safely spaced away from other tables, my husband and I were seated right next to the kitchen for prime view. We ordered an appetizer of calamari, strozzapreti, for main, and kale salad along with some lemonades. Let's talk about the stars of the meal: holy calamari!! THIS was delicious. Not overly breaded, a perfect bite to the calamari, with a perfectly dressed and tossed in arugula. A drizzle of lemon over top and you're in Heaven. Not to mention the portion...my hubby and I were getting filled and this was just an appetizer to start us off! Next up: show stopper strozzapreti. Holy cheese balls. I am sooooo glad we got this. The truth is while we were going on a walk to JENI'S a week ago, someone had order this for take out and was eating it outside in the bench area: the truffle from this persons dish literally grabbed me backwards. At that moment, I knew I had to go to North Italia just to order this one dish. My husband does not enjoy the taste of truffle as much and he raved about this dish - this speaks volumes! The perfectly al dente cork screw pasta, with the tossed spinach in truffle oil, a delicious and not overly dressed Parmesan cream marrying all the flavors together, paired with the perfect bite of mushroom and chicken along with a crunch of pine nut. Every bite brought me a glimpse of Heaven. Don't be fooled by the portions because my husband and I split the dish - and we still couldn't finish! You truly get a bang for your buck. I'd come back just for this. The kale salad actually came as a later dish for some reason, and was sadly the least impressive. :( I love kale salads so this actually came a little surprising. The kitchen had ran out of the Parmesan vinaigrette and kindly asked to exchange it for a simply truffle oil vinaigrette. Perhaps the lack of the Parmesan vinaigrette allowed the kale's bitterness to overpower the entire dish thus giving it an overall bland taste...Nothing remarkable, probably can curate a tastier salad for the price you pay for. For me the definition of a great restaurant is when you have amazing food paired with amazing service. At North Italia in McLean, Va you will find both of those things. Their floor manager Colin was extremely knowledgeable, he was funny but on top of that he was so personable. He not only stopped by to give us drink recommendations and take our drink orders, but returned again to follow up on how we were enjoying our meal and again to give recommendations for dessert. It was evident to us how much he loves what he does and he truly made our experience a memorable and enjoyable one. We left feeling like he was our friend and we had come here to see him. Now, let me not forget our server, Emmie. Fantastic again. She was charming and went the extra mile for us to split up our Squid Ink Malfadine into two portions so my girlfriend and I could split it. Ok, I know, you want to know about the food. Nothing short of spectacular. We started our meal with the crispy calamari and the chef's board, both were great but we loved the chef's board. As Colin has promised it did a great job of showcasing the standard that North Italia sets for itself. The spicy coppa and the prosciutto di parma were so thinly sliced and full of flavor. The cresenza cheese was also a personal favorite, I recommend spreading a bit of the grilled bread and then adding a few slices of the coppa or prosciutto on top. On to the entrees. The aforementioned Squid Ink Malfadine was exquisite. The shrimp and squid pairing perfectly with the saltiness of the squid ink. The noodles were cooked to perfection and perfectly absorbed all the umami this dish had to offer. We also had 'The Pig' which is a spicy pepperoni, soppressata, italian sausage pizza. It was great. Their tomato sauce has the perfect acidity level and their crust was nice and thin. The toppings were also amazing and with the quality of ingredients North Italia uses, you can't go wrong. For dessert we had the Bombolini, which were the perfect ending to our meal. The sourness of the Meyer lemon curd played so well the vanilla mascarpone and the sugary doughy donut. To pair with that I had the jump start which (again like Colin described) was like an espresso chocolate milk, fantastic. My girlfriend also had the cappuccino which was done to perfection. All in all 5 stars and if I could give a 6th, I would. We will definitely be back several times. read more

I think the description that best suits this restaurant would be upscale. Brightly lit,Italian restaurant. I stopped in for a quick lunch. There is some parking outside the restaurant and they do validate public parking nice! I didn't have a reservation but was seated promptly. My server Hera was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Noithing like being retired and starting off your meal with a glass of prosecco as an appetizer, lol. I ordered the minestrone soup and heirloom beet salad. I didn't wait long for the order to come. The soup was fantastic! served in about a 16 oz bowl it was a little creamy, so good. The salad was a master piece! It was fresh, tasty, and very pleasing to the eye. I don't know why I did it smh, but I broke my only one desert a week desert rule, but I did! I had a salted caramel budino. Believe me, I was not disappointed with this desert, only disappointed with me. I will ne getting on the scale shortly ba humbug! First time trying North Italia- Tysons. Food was tasty. Happy hour prices was fair but limited to a small happy hour menu. For HH, we ordered: bottle and board (house white wine/margarita pizza), red sangria, & the prosciutto bruschetta. We also ordered off the normal dinner menu: wild shrimp scampi, Arancini, & Bolognese. Hard to give this spot a higher rating. Knocking 2 stars for a watered down sangria pitcher and the Bolognese noodle being slightly undercooked. In my opinion, the sangria just had way too much ice and the I'm assuming the noodle just needed a couple more minutes till al dente. It's not like I didn't like the food, but compared to other Italians spots around the DMV it did not impress me. I peeped their brunch menu. It includes a variety of breakfast items as well as similar small plated options from the dinner menu. I will definitely give this place another shot and will do another review based off that experience. read more

We've lived in the Fairfax/Mosaic area for a couple of years now. Gotten kind of into a rut restaurant wise. We were at the Tysons 1 mall today (totally swamped) and wanted to go somewhere else for lunch. My husband said this place (he works close). We ate at the far end of the bar and George was our bartender. He was amazing. We got the sicilian margaritas with extra grand marnier and they were amazing. For the meal we each got breakfast items- he the Pollo Frito and me the omelet. So light and fluffy and the hash brown potatoes are like nothing I've experienced. Anyway, Decent meal, decent price, not normally a place I'd make a destination but I hope to see George next Saturday. He really made the visit worth it. read more
