No Parking, No dice for lunch at North Italia in Arcadia. Just a cautionary tale to consider if you plan on meeting anyone for lunch at North. I was in there yesterday to meet my sister who drove up from Chandler. Did I mention that I made a reservation as well. I got there early and was seated at my table. My server was Rachel S who was very nice, recommended the bruschetta and their house sangria which I ordered . The appetizer and sangria no sooner arrive at my table when my sister calls and tells me there is no parking available in the lot. I inform Rachel who goes to her manager ...who does nothing. I'm left with no other option to leave because they cannot accommodate my reservation. Well Chelsea's Kitchen was outstanding as always and seated us immediately with no reservation. To add insult to injury as we are leaving North to go to Chelsea's Kitchen. They seated people that parked in the "To Go" parking . Our server had no personality and no desire to be here today. This was my first time here and the experience was terrible. I asked quite a few questions so we ordered correctly. When the food arrived there were things that I did NOT recognized. Our server continually asked my husband what else he would like. He ended up taking my meal. She never asked once if I wanted anything else. Others in our party had questions about their entrees as well and we noticed that she was avoiding us and talking about us to other servers. Yummy yummy in my Italian tummy...ok I'm not Italian but North makes you feel like you are! My family and I have enjoyed numerous meals at North both dining in and taking out and have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely spectacular; everything on the menu is a winner! My favorites are the pig pizza, meat and cheese boards, pasta (any kind), zucca chips...oh gosh it's all good! My only knock on North is that the prices are very high for the portion sizes. Honestly you are better off ordering from the kids menu for better prices and the same portions. Both dine in and take out are always flawlessly done. The atmosphere in North is hip and happening. I actually prefer to carry out because it's somewhat loud, crowded, and hard to have good conversation inside, but that seems to be the popular thing these days. The color scheme, large building with vaulted ceilings, outside patio, and decor are beautifully done and I do see why people enjoy dining there. The wait staff is well versed on the menu and always friendly and attentive. It does get crowded, so you'll want to get a reservation or get there early. However if you don't mind waiting there is a great bar area in the corner of the restaurant that is perfectly placed to compliment the flow of the restaurant and not be the centerpiece. Parking can be a challenge, so I recommend using their valet even if it is a few extra bucks. North is a fantastic Italian restaurant that has delectable food, a friendly and fun environment, and is perfect for date night or the whole family. If you're craving a good pasta meal do yourself a favor and check it out. read more

We love the food and ambiance here at North Italia in Arcadia. The FRC group built this from the ground up to be a community focused gathering spot for everyone, singles to large groups included. The open kitchen and barn-like interior space are reminiscent of a Farm-to-Table ideology. I know for a fact they make the pasta in house, not sure of the amount of local produce that they procure though. I normally order the Mafaldine pasta and the Arancini Risotto Balls, and occasionally the Bolognese or a pizza special of the day. I went to this North Italia location for dinner on a Saturday night. We got the Margherita Pizza, one of the pastas, and two scoops of gelato. The pizza was delicious! It was a good serving size and more than enough for two people to share. The gelato was also yummy! Perfect for a warm night out in Phoenix over the summer. The overall ambiance is a mix of classy and casual at the same time. The decor inside is BEAUTIFUL! Parking valet is complimentary, but don't forget to still tip your valet drivers! I am considering recommending this restaurant to be visited by Gordon Ramsey! My goodness do they need his help. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and we decided to book dinner here for a special occasion. I enjoyed the outdoor seating area. The parking is a bit of a nightmare to be sure. The main problem is there is a paucity of flavor and proper cooking and plating. I am not trying to be polite, but I honestly thought momentarily that the meal was made the day before and they simply put it in the microwave for too short of time and then served it. I was really disappointed in the the food quality! I was really anticipating legitimate Italian food! Unfortunately, , it's American all the way- in Italy they would never serve deep fried calamari such as what was served at our table! Any Italian would be ashamed to serve such a thing as it was heavily breaded and very dry and soaked with oil. I have had far better calamari at a multitude of other places Including the Cheesecake Factory, Z Greeks, Aioli, Christos and Oregano's. This was the equivalent of some sad worse than truck stop version of calamari. In Italy calamari is ALWAYS gently sautéed with lemon juice and garlic and olive oil and plenty of salt. Any real Italian chef would be too ashamed to cater to the segment of Americans who love everything that's deep fried. There is a reason why I would never eat at Denny's or IHOP. Let me tell you I was chagrined to say the least to discover that North serves up the same sort of fodder. To be frank, one could not ascertain what was inside the thick breading there were so little of the inside (supposedly calamari) and so much of the hard stale cold dried out oily breading. I can only imagine that they must've made this a day or two before and then just simply heated it up on some oil. It is not very good quality cooking that's for sure! I really hope the manager of this restaurant or perhaps the owner reads this review and does a surprise sampling of this item on the menu which should be removed as soon as possible. We were all fairly hungry as we anticipated a delicious dinner and we all took leftovers home to give to the dog because it was really not that flavorful or good. It's the sort of food that people at an assisted living facility or middle America might get: flavorless, bland and basic. I cannot even call it comfort food because it wasn't that good. I can cook way better at home! Everyone at my table agreed that my homemade pasta sauce (which I can make rather quickly) and added to some fresh pasta from Trader Joe's with me, adding sautéed garlic and lemon tastes FAR superior to the dishes that arrived at our table! My daughter had the tortellini and there were several that were undercooked. It was so hard it was not el dente. My Lumache dish was the second item on the pasta menu and it also was undercooked and lukewarm. I do not enjoy having food served to me lukewarm. I don't understand why anyone would go here and pay the current plate prices like this when it doesn't even taste that great. Oreganos and Grimaldi beats this place hands down in terms of flavor, the food is proper temperature and I've never had raw pasta served there. Every pasta dish we ordered was lacking in flavor and very bland. It's almost like they're unaware of the fragrant herbs that typically are used in Italian cooking from garlic to oregano and basil in substantial quantities. There's a real absence of these things even though they're listed in the ingredients on the menu!,. I consider Oregano's to be a fairly basic chain restaurant however, the flavor and the food at oregano's far exceeds the flavor at North. I would put the flavor and quality of the food at North as slightly better than Olive Garden (a place I do not frequent). The only item that we ordered that was decent was the appetizer of meatballs with the ricotta, Although it was definitely lacking in salt. I do not think that we will return anytime soon when there are so many other superior options available, I was really disappointed because I've heard so many good things about this place over the years, but I can only presume that the quality has gone downhill or else the people that were raving about it are completely unfamiliar with real Italian food. I've traveled to Italy a few times and I know what good Italian food tastes like and this is definitely not it. I'd rather go to True Food or Blancos down the street where at least I know I will get something that tastes predictably good and is made with nutritious ingredients. Wow the food at North Italia is absolutely outstanding. My absolute favorite meal there is a simple salad, margarita Pizza with the most delightful and delicious bomba sauce to dip the pizza into--amazing. The wait staff is so responsive and friendly. I think our water and soda glasses were never empty. And there were multiple staff members who would check on us too--truly a team effort to ensure we had a wonderful visit. I made reservations for my mom's birthday, there were about 12 of us. I did miss the first turn since it is a small parking space as well as the sign was kinda blocked by a branch. But the building and the open kitchen are breathe taking, very gorgeous interior furniture, the patio was also stunning and seemed cozy even with the small wind we had that night. The food matched the same vibes. Warm, cozy, and fresh, I had the SQUID INK MAFALDINE, it was spicy, savory and delicious. WOW!!!! This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. I came here for a girls night and was blown away by the atmosphere, decor, food, and service!! For parking, there is a complimentary valet right outside the restaurant that is very convenient! We were seated immediately to our table reserved for 14 of us. I was honestly impressed with their ability to host such a large party considering the restaurant doesn't really look that big! We all arrived around 7:45 and the restaurant was still pretty busy. The restaurant itself is really cute and decorated well! I ordered the strozzapreti pasta and absolutely loved my dish. The roasted mushroom gave the pasta such a delicious flavor along with the Parmesan cream and toasted pine nuts. The pasta itself was also cooked to perfection. I was also able to try the Bolognese since my friend and I shared the two dishes. While I enjoyed the strozzapreti more, the Bolognese was also delicious. The meat sauce had a good amount of meat within the tomato base and the tagliatelle noodles were the perfect vehicle for the sauce. For dessert, I ordered the hazelnut torta. I was pretty disappointed that they were out of the bombolini because I had seen so many photos of the donuts, but I was not at all disappointed with my choice. The salted caramel gelato was so creamy and delicious on its own, but the cake itself was so flavorful and both complimented each other well. The hazelnut toffee added a nice crunch to the dish and the Nutella cream just made this dessert that much more decadent! I am so pleased with my visit. Went here for lunch after a morning of shopping in Kierland. Since it was a nice day, we sat outside. It appears everyone else had the same idea. I mean, why sit in a stuffy room when one can enjoy the great outdoors. I had the short rib radiatori and my companion had the grilled chicken sandwich. Christine was our server. Very efficient, friendly, and professional. Loved my radiatori. The short rib was melt in my mouth tasty. I must admit, the dish was a bit on the maybe over-salted side, but not really that much. My husband and I have been going to North for quite some time. It is our go to when we are craving good Italian food. Our favorite appetizer is the white truffle garlic bread, to die for! The black Mediterranean mussels are also a must have. They are garlicky and cooked to perfection. The broth is equally good and is perfect for sopping your bread in. Good Italian meal on Christmas Eve with my wife's Italian family members. We all kept it simple and each of us had pasta. Three of them had the Spicy Vodka Rigatoni and they all loved it. The rigatoni was slightly al dente, just the way they like it. It also did have a very good spiciness to it as well. I had the tagliatelle noodle Bolognese , the house specialty which was quite good and less calorie dense than than the Vodka Rigatoni. Our waitperson was very friendly and very efficient. The restaurant itself bustled with a positive energy due to the festive season and the open floor plan, but the noise level was not oppressive - we could easily carry on conversations without difficulty. I'm pretty understanding, but no effort was made. We weren't even asked once if we were enjoying our meals or if everything was ok and to our liking. Which is standard. You should always ask your customers is everything is good. I could tell his service was catered to whether we were going to tip or not. I normally always give 20 percent or above but not this time.
