I'm from NJ and we are close enough to NYC that we go in for dinner frequently. visits back home to Ohio can seem like a food desert. does everything here have gloppy sweet sauces and melted cheese? and vegetables never show up. BUT my experience at Northstar Cafe was such a healthy and artistic surprise! The trout was grilled perfectly with a lovely cross hatch and so very moist with a bit of smoke and citrus and crispy capers. gorgeous and healthy. The side ceaser salad was ice shattering crisp with a very fresh tasting dressing, with a touch of garlic. no garlic breath hangover. The fries are perfect shoestrings which were great even after they got cold. addicting to the last bite. I am soo glad I found this place! I will hit the one by Easton the next time I fly into town. Very good breakfast. Friendly service and nice neighborhood feel. My favorite is the Cowboy Breakfast and substituting the breakfast potatoes instead of the biscuit. Always done to my liking and served hot. Coffee is very good and we are given several different country coffees to choose from. This is a great place. Wish it was a bit less expensive. read more

I was so looking forward to meeting up with one of my friends here. First, I want to say that we both had the biscuit, egg, and cheese. She had sausage, I had bacon. Both were delicious. But, while I understand they're observing covid restrictions and I have been to other restaurants that have had to change procedures because of the virus, there are certain things that could have been done better. We ordered and paid at the check in area and then were told that there was no remaining seating inside and asked if we would sit on the patio. They said they were turning on heaters and we said okay. We were each handed a ceramic mug for coffee and the coffee station was pointed out. Still okay. I went to get my coffee first. I add cream and sweetener. After adding the sweetener I realized there wasn't a trash receptacle. I also realized that I'd have to carry that mug of coffee back to my table. I had noticed that there were lids for to go cups at the station and it occurred to me that giving us to go cups where we could have used the lids might have been a better idea so we wouldn't be carrying those mugs of hot coffee past other diners where it could have sloshed on ourselves or them. There also wasn't a trash receptacle on the patio so when the wind picked up our trash just blew off the table. And, with the wind, the heaters were pretty ineffective. The heaters are mounted on the ceiling and heat rises, right? One other thing that was odd was that we were given one of those buzzer things and we thought we were going to have to go inside ourselves to get our meals. Not a problem but our meals were served to us, the waitress took away the buzzer. We have no idea why we had it. And, finally, we were the only customers on the patio. There had been quite a line after us and amazingly they all were able to be seated inside. I won't say we won't eat there again but probably not until after covid rules have been lifted. read more

Delicious menu and flavors, excellent service. We arrived for an early dinner and an employee helped me review the menu. Based on her input I chose the Northstar burger (vegan with black beans and beets) This was flavorful and filling! I subbed the peanut slaw as my side. Loved the white cabbage and jicama mix and the peanut sauce was light but robust and delicious. Our table split the dip appetizer. Guacamole was chunky with corn, black beans and onion. Loved how it tasted. The pimento spread tasted more like ham salad - smoky flavor but not like smoky cheese. The spread portions were generous but not the serving of chips. Overall loved my first visit - can't wait to try out the brunch menu. read more

I had a rough week so I drove all the way here from Cleveland (2 hour drive)! Not knowing the brunch menu went till 3pm. I had my heart set on the Buddha bowl, a vegan dish I usually get when I visit here. They did not have that item for brunch so I had to ordered something else. The server who took care of me was so sweet and so accommodating, she gave me a free veggie burger. Thank you!! I'll be driving back here all the time:)! I love nice people!! read more

Let me start with saying I normally LOVE Northstar- so much so that I brought a big group of friends with me to try it! It's one of my Columbus go-to's. I got the pad thai which I've gotten before and it's normally SO good! This time it was a bit idk- greasy? Maybe it was just too saucy, but still good. The worst part and reason for 2 stars- I was EXTREMELY sick afterwards. I ate it Sunday for dinner, I made sure it wasn't anything else I ate because I hadn't eaten anything else, and I was sick all the way into Monday afternoon. So disappointed to have this experience and I'm hoping it was a one-time thing because I truly do love this place. read more

Although it took almost 3 years to open, the wait was worth it! Excellent, friendly service from the entire staff, mixed with healthy, tasty food choices, add a sprinkle of drinks (both alcoholic and non) to die for, and you have the perfect mix for breakfast, lunch or dinner. A special honorable mention goes to our cashier/host Cornelius for being the bright, warm, friendly face of this fantastic establishment. Bravo Northstar! Beautiful restaurant, terrific atmosphere and great food. But the true reason for my 5 star review is the staff. Top to bottom they have been excellent. We sat at the bar and were given the best service by the bartender. The manager brought us complimentary apps herself. And the hostess even gave us a complimentary fresh baked cookie. We all left very pleased and happy with our entire visit. I'm sure we will be back again. read more

I just visited Westerville NorthStar for the first time. I have been to Clintonville and Easton NorthStar restaurants . I ALWAYS get the bean burger and finally branched out and tried the Pad Thai. I love everything here: the atmosphere, food and service. I wasn't happy with the change from fresh potatoes and management responded that they made the change due to issues sourcing quality potatoes. I have to admit that Northstar's quality is unwaivering and I appreciate that it's the highest priority. I guess I'll just order the wild rice - it's amazing! read more

We had a bit of a disappointing start, but a stellar finish. Our order somehow was lost and we ended up waiting about 30 minutes for our food, but the staff and manager gave us feee food vouchers and comped our meal. Wonderful customer service; everyone there was very accommodating and thoughtful. I had the sweet potato & turkey hash and it was delicious. Beautiful atmosphere and yummy food. Great to have it now open in Westerville. Casual dining, nice atmosphere, good service and adult beverages available. Indoor and outdoor seating + parking available. Only downside for me is that it is walk up to order, then sit. Being old-school, I prefer wait staff taking orders while seated. Oh, and the food was awesome! read more

I love love love Northstar but please bring out the food TOGETHER. My husband and I pay a lot of money to eat here, as it definitely ain't cheap and it drives me insane that one of us will get our meal before the other and pretty much be done eating by the time the other person's food comes out. The point of us going out is to eat TOGETHER. On our most recent visit I asked the cashier if she could have the wait staff bring our food out together and she said it should be out together because both dishes we ordered were made similarly. I feel it should always be brought out together. No other restaurant does this. It makes the experience not enjoyable. Please fix this Northstar. This place is great. It's the only place I've ever gone to where I order the veggie-burger instead of the real hamburger. And it's not because their regular hamburger sucks. Everything they prepare is well seasoned, fresh, and balanced. They do a great job steaming their vegetables perfectly. Beverages are all fantastic. I've loved Northstar ever since I started going to the one in the Short North nearly 15 years ago. I moved out of Ohio almost 5 years ago and every time I come back to visit family we always go to Northstar at least once (have never had a better veggie burger in my life!) However, I was super disappointed and disgusted with the fact that only a few staff members were wearing masks! I was told there was a mask mandate in Columbus but apparently folks think it's just a suggestion. I saw the manager getting orders ready on the line without a mask on, mouth right inline with my food. I was already taken aback when the cashier didn't have a mask but didn't realize she was one of the many staff without one. Not to mention that Westerville is a hot bed for COVID-19 right now, didn't know this until after eating at Northstar, unfortunately. I love this location becayse the staff is always pleasant and not only so they have Boylan soda as an option (some locations only have specialty drinks and water) but they also have delicious woodfire pizza! I have had both the Margherita and the Fiore and although both are yummy the Fiore is so yummy and healthy tasting you forget it's pizza, which means you don't feel guilty for eating the entire thing! read more

We've eaten here a few times since they put this location and and since this is right down the street from where we live, we have been here a few times. It is seemingly overpriced for what you get but it is a really neat place to eat inside with lots of seating and it still feels personal even though it's kind of like a cafeteria set up. It does get noisy in there because of people moving around and because the partitions are not high and also because the kitchen is very much open. I really like the fact that the kitchen is open because you can see everybody working and it's just lively inside the restaurant. They have windows that they can open up on a really nice days and the patio is pretty decent size and shaded from the sun. There's even a little nook table that we like to sit at since it's usually just the two of us when we go that's in the corner closest to that salon. We even will stop in here for warm cookies on a walk. I've never known of any coupons to be out for this restaurant so I'm not really sure if they do that but that would be awesome. I do DoorDash in this area since I live right here and anytime that I come in here for a pickup, they are on it. Most of the time it is already ready and the longest I've ever had to wait was only one time it was only for three minutes. They were bagging it up and running around like maniacs so they were definitely busy. They hire people that can move fast and are very competent. I know that sounds very weird to say but it's true. The service you get here is great and that's at any location that I've been to. They must take pride in who they hire. Right now, with the quarantine going on, you just have to drive up and let the guys know that are underneath the umbrella that you are here to pick up and whatever name you ordered under. They will bring it out to you but if you're picking up for DoorDash then you need to go inside still. They do have their own parking lot behind the building which is nice for this area since most places don't have decent parking lots of their own. read more

Although a bit pricey, this homestyle locally sourced hot spot is a great place to grab a bite during lunch. The food variety is great and they offer both fresh squeezed juices as well as a variety of other drinks. The service itself was excellent and quick casual style. Once ordered you sit and wait for the meal that is delivered piping hot and ready to eat. I tried the chicken avocado and thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and presentation. Upgraded the side to the soup of the day which happened to be chili. The chili was hot, well seasoned and plated with a side of chips which complemented the dish well. The shooting star can't be passed up. Fresh Squeezed carrot and orange juice are perfectly blended to provide a satisfying but not overly sweet beverage. I love this place and I always have! The food is delicious, fresh and consistent but most of all the service is wonderful. Today I had dinner there with my two kids and mom. It started pouring down rain! The manager actually went and got an umbrella and walked me to my car so I didn't have to get my baby wet. The first time I went there was waaaay better than the second. My boyfriend and I had gotten the pimento dip to share(it was super good), my boyfriend had gotten a burger, and I had gotten a yoghurt bowl with fruit and granola(which I have to say was really good too). But now it's been almost a year and my boyfriend and I went back for nostalgic purposes and we decided to get a Margherita pizza with some pepperoni on one half, because who doesn't love wood fired pizza? It was kind of disappointing to be honest, the crust was thin and the sauce really had no density to it. The whole thing ended up being a watery cheese mess in the center of the pan, not that appealing. I recommend coming here to others but if you're looking for good wood fired pizza, Pizza Cucinova is only a few hundred yards away. read more

Terrible experience! Wife like(d) their $18 veggie burger so decided to order takeout for Valentines Day, what a mistake. First issue, daughter wanted grilled trout. On menu but couldn't order online?? Called Westerville location and they advised that yeah some menu items not updated online so have to come into restaurant to order as, get this, can't take orders over phone? WTF! So wife, committed to getting $18 veggie burger (did I mention the price already?) so she drove to location to order takeout. Got order home and still warm, so okay there - but veggie burger overcooked and dry, grilled trout also over cooked, but somehow they were able to undercook the medium well ordered cheese burger our son ordered! But our troubles were just beginning. Next day, the cheese burger (and fries) son calls from work saying stomache really not doing well and needed an early pickup ... followed by 2 two days on the porcelain throne and bucket by the bed! I had the misfortune of sharing some fries so also got to miss 2 days of work for multiple visits to the bathroom! So no more Northstar for this guy but if you enjoy way over priced poorly cooked food where takeout has to be ordered in-person at the restaurant - for a sideorder of projectile vomiting, this is the place for you. read more
