The turkey/avocado half-sandwich was tasty but the toasted 9-grain bread seemed to have been doused in butter. So while tasty, it was greasy. Service can, and almost always will, make or break an establishment for me. It's one of the reasons I joined yelp, and one of the reasons a business ever deserves 5 stars. Our waitress for pre and during happy hour was phenomenal. Funny, intuitive, complimentary and quick to give suggestion based on our interests. I saw that mimosas were on happy hour, but not plain champagne, mentioned that, and ended up just ordering the mimosa "light on the orange". To my delight, she ordered in the mimosa price and came back with a perfectly full flute of champagne and a shot glass of OJ. Above and beyond to satisfy the customer. Moving on to the food! Their burgers looked amazing, smelled like heaven and our table gave them 5 stars. I personally liked the Poke and pretty much any appetizer/starter on the menu. Was really tired after work and drove in from Canada and was trying to catch an early flight. Guess what. I walked in, sit down by a waitress . Nobody fucking came to take my order. They are not swamped. They had time to clean the table behind me and take the order from a new customer that came in late and sits behind me. WHAT THE FUCK? The place is nice , spacious with awesome sunset views from some corners . Definitely not a your cozy place to take a date or anything like that . Would be for business meeting or a big group of friends . The food is good , nothing extraordinary. Located near the hotel so definitely if ur staying in the hotel it's very convenient. We don't live in Bham anymore so on a recent trip we stayed at the hotel connected to this (which was awesome). We didn't eat here, but I had a couple breakfast smoothies and we took drinks up to the room. We loved the option to have room service but never got around to that since there's so many other options in the area. Pros? On Saturday, we returned for our anniversary dinner with our son and his girlfriend. The meals were all incredible and the service can't be beat! I went here for breakfast. When I walked in the waitress could not be found despite the restaurant being open. Shortly after I arrived roughly 30 other people showed up. One waitress was overwhelmed taking care of all the tables and thus the service was slow. I thought the food was below average and thus I will not be returning. read more

Northwater was unexpected in so many ways. (Firstly, we didn't realize it was essentially by the airport, so that was a little surprise--and could prove to be very handy.) The exterior is very new looking and NW lovely with an inviting deck and pleasing interior. (My friend, however, didn't want to eat outside due to pasture scents. I, on the other hand, just think Huntsman cheese and pumpernickel and I'm good to go...) Even though they called it their "short menu," it was nicely varied. The Margherita flatbread and roasted cauliflower were nice. I always love good fish and chips and was happy, and it included a nice, bright slaw. The staff were super confused, though. I don't know if it was just happenstance with us or what--and the staff were very nice and we are very patient (and it made us laugh). But if this is a regular thing, some people are not going to be very happy. I've never experienced anything like this anywhere ever. When we arrived, we were virtually the only ones there plus maybe three other tables in what is a fairly large place. It was a long time before our order was taken and then the place started filling up. We ordered wine plus our food. It took forever for our wine to arrive and the server looked lost as to where to bring it. At that point, other people were being served actual food. Our bill was brought to us by a different server, which sent us into gales of laughter. Our server looked puzzled at our table and said, "But you haven't even been brought your food yet." Right! When our food did arrive, another server was bringing it to yet a different table where people were already eating. Recognizing it must be ours, we called him over. Anyway, on it went like that for the duration of our meal. If it's just an off-thing, fine. If not, hopefully they will fix their coordination problems--otherwise, be armed with a sense of humor and be prepared to wait. read more

I was suuuuuuuper excited to try this place but I wasn't super impressed. The location isn't ideal--across from the airport but not really close enough to pregame for a flight. I went on a weekday for happy hour and had the drink special (a spiked iced tea) and the caprese stack salad and my friend had their bison burger. The food was okay but I was very disappointed that they didn't offer the Scotch eggs any longer. So Yummy! i got the aged pork chop and the berry cobbler crumble and they were both really goos. The pork chop was really moist and the apple paired so well with the mashed potatoes and pork. The berry cobbler was also really good. We got the bacon mac and cheese too but it was just OK. I would pass on that next time. read more

We had a great birthday happy hour here last year, drinks were delicious and the happy hour food is not only wonderful but priced well. The happy hour specials are such a great deal! I loved my peach Bellini, pork mole tacos, and tapenade! Ryan, our server, is what really made the night special... he was incredibly personable, responsive, and helped my sister navigate the menu well (she has a dairy allergy!) if he didn't have an answer, he got it. The service was on par with the food - also terrible. We ate in the bar as the restaurant was booked. It took 15 minutes to get water, another 10 before we placed our order and at least 20 before we received our food. Being from California and traveling, I stopped in here pretty much by accident and was completely thrilled. This place belongs in downtown Seattle with the level of skill. Super helpful and sweet staff and the food was incredible. Tried the soup (ham and potato). Sounded just ok but when the bartender brought me a taste, I was blown away. I ended up way over ordering because everything looked so good and was not disappointed. Incredible and I hope to be in the area again soon so I can come and try more of their goodies. I have eaten here a number of times when staying at the Holiday Inn and a couple just to eat, the food has always been excellent, the service and overall experience has mostly been "sub-par" from my experience at like restaurants in the price range. As it is newish I thought that my overall experience was just teething pains, but that doesn't seem to be the case. This time eating here will be my last, although I will continue to use the hotel which is excellent. The bar attached to the restaurant has been a good experience, and I will use it when staying. I could examples but don't really want to get in to them. I travel three plus months a year and am pretty low maintenance so it takes a certain level of "sub-par" for me to review it that way. read more

Northwater is a hidden gem in a Holiday Inn by the airport. We never would have come here on our own, but it was highly recommended by a staff member at another hotel. The food was exceptional, and the service was top-notch. We had a finicky group with various dietary restrictions but it was handled with grace by servers and the kitchen. Try the house-made coffee/whiskey liqueur with a cold smoked ice cube (!!!). It transported me to a log cabin in the woods, crackling fire, warm socks, comfy chair, sleeping dog... you get it. I took a banana cream pie to go and I'm STILL thinking about it a week later. I have to return to Bellingham for business next month and I'll no doubt stop back by Northwater at least to make my way through the rest of the desert menu. read more

Happy hour was a good deal from three until 7 PM got a good size order of probably eight or nine wings for six bucks with a couple of dipping sauces. No complaints. (The rosemary french fries are so good!) we also had the chicken and waffles and it was sooo yummy! The chicken was just a bit overcooked, but surprisingly still had great flavor. You can get any single well or glass of wine for $5 and a double well for $7 which is not bad. My friend ordered the scotch eggs and they were tasty. There were a lot of flavors happening. It was a hard boiled egg wrapped in bacon and panko breaded. Then cut in Half and topped with a mint chutney like sauce. So for 4 drinks and two happy hour apps we spent almost $50 before tip. So is it a great deal for happy hour? I don't think so. However, I can not wait to try their regular menu during regular hours. read more

I live nearby and have been here tons since they opened. I have experienced breakfast, brunch, dinner, lunch, and cocktails here so I am ready to review. Service: every time we go it is empty. I am enjoying it while it lasts. The service is always enthusiastic, and Knowledgeable, and will bend over backwards to make anything perfect. Food: best cesear salad in town. Bison burger, poke, flatbread, and fish dishes are on the top. Pork mole tacos and Mac n cheese you can skip. Drinks: I'm sure I've had different bartenders, but a couple of times I've asked for a coffee nudge and either the server says they don't have them, or I get something random. At least each time they've been decent but leave a huge space at top of glass that should be filled with whipped cream. Other cocktails from their menu I have enjoyed. There is a wonderful little lounge hidden in the back of the bar. If you want nice private intimate conversation then get back there. And there's is free WiFi so taking a break in the lounge with my laptop has been a favorite past time. read more

You must also try the chicharronas which were locally in-house created. I would NEVER Order deep fried pork belly except these which were outstanding!! We moved onto main dinner entries of seared ahi tuna with wasabi mashed cauliflower, chicken scallopini and a terrific unusual dish phyllo roasted veggie purse. All delicious! Well done, Northwater! Husband and I came for a date night on Saturday night. Walked in and we were impressed with the tranquil blue tones and glass accents to compliment the name of the restaurant and bar. Started off with cocktails; side car for him, Como La Flor for me. I loved my cocktail - smoky mezcal with hibiscus and just enough punch. Husband ordered the shrimp risotto and I went with the house burger for dinner. Burger came out beautifully medium rare with tomato jam and lentil plank fries on the side. They whip up the best cardamom and yogurt sauce to compliment the lentil fries - it's like a little taste of India. Staff was attentive and a lot of veterans on board from the restaurant industry here in Whatcom Co. Ample seating all around too. We wish the Northwater lots of luck! We'll be back! read more

I expect it to get very busy in the coming months as more people find it. We had drinks at the bar and dinner in the restaurant. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, then mixed us some killer cocktails. After enjoying our drinks we settled into the dinner menu. This may sound tired, but *WHOA!* you gotta try the burger. Yes, the burger. The meat was tender, tasty, and expertly spiced.
