By far my favorite brewery in Bellingham. We really enjoyed our anniversary here. Loved the fresh Cesar salad and pizza. My husband loved the crab bisque. We had a flight of the in house drinks. Very nice charcuterie plate with variety. There were lovely selections of cheeses. (Having said that, I do wish the brie had been a little riper, but that can't always be controlled for--but I took it home to ripen and enjoy later.) The meats were amazing as was the fig jam--and by sheer accident I tasted some of the meatier and spicier sausage with that jam, OMG! It became my go-to. Along with the drinks. Each of the cocktails can be made non-alcohol with their n/a spirits. But it's good to get a consult on what is likely to work best. Sarah was awesome! She made me a fabulous couple of drinks: a Shameless Downtown Tart (who cannot love that name!) and an after-dinner chocolate espresso martini that was divine! It was the first of its kind she made that way--we each had our doubts, but she nailed it! I enjoyed the lounge with the high top tables and love the "Pennyfarthing" style art! We love it here. We live far away so we usually make the trip here for our anniversary. We came here for the first time last year for right before getting pregnant and returned this year after baby's arrival. The food and drinks were fantastic both times so we will probably keep coming. We arrived super hungry so we started with the whiskey queso dip which was delicious. Then we both had the bourbon braised beef sliders, I saved one for the next day. Was delicious to enjoy it two days in a row. Doesn't come with enough chips so we ordered another side of them to share. The chips are fresh and super good. Drinks, I had a manhattan and an old fashioned my husband had two manhattans. Then we bought a bottle (we did last year as well) and had a flight to try some of the alcohols. I was bummed the vodka I had tried the year before was not available. Best vodka I had ever had. Atmosphere is chill and we are not rushed at all. Love this place and will be back! read more

We've been to Penny Farthing before but this time it was just us, and honestly it was really nice. It was a Friday night and surprisingly there was no wait, which kind of shocked me. We got this cute little two-top by the window that looks out toward Chuckanut Distillery, so we could watch people doing their tours while we ate. Perfect little spot. We spent a while staring at the menu (I always get decision paralysis with big menus) but I finally settled on what was basically a key lime pie in a glass. SO good. Like creamy, tangy, and the graham cracker rim just sealed it. My husband got a whiskey sour, also excellent, perfectly balanced. We both went for our favorite crab bisque (still amazing), and then he got the cheese dip while I ordered the caprese sandwich. I was a little bummed it didn't come in halves. I just can't eat as much as I used to, but it was fresh and delicious, no complaints on the flavor at all. Our waitress was great, super friendly, joked around with us, patient with my indecision, just really on it. The vibe in there was lively and a little loud but fun, like everyone was having a good time. All around just a really nice night. Fun energy, sweet waitress, and the food still hits. read more

We played "restaurant roulette" for lunch by pulling up nearby spots on Yelp, closing my eyes, and scrolling to pick. That is how we ended up at Penny Farthing inside Chuckanut Bay Distillery, and I am glad we did. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, not too loud, not crowded, and we were seated right away. Prices felt reasonable for the quality. Our waiter was friendly and made the experience easy from start to finish. The food and drinks were excellent. I had the eggplant parmesan sandwich, which was flavorful and satisfying. These sandwiches can sometimes fall apart and be messy, but this one held together and was easy to eat. It came with potato chips that tasted made from scratch and paired nicely with the sandwich. My husband ordered the "pot pie" pizza, which was such a fun surprise. It comes baked in a cast iron skillet and is flipped upside down at the table to reveal a deep dish pizza. He enjoyed it so much he talked about trying to recreate it at home. For drinks, I tried the Bee's Knees cocktail, which was bright and refreshing, while my husband went with the upside down pineapple cocktail, one of their specials. Both were fantastic. Overall, restaurant roulette was a win. The food, drinks, and atmosphere made for a great lunch, and we would love to come back when we have more time to try a distillery tour or special event. read more

Don't eat on the rooftop, it's not the same menu as the main restaurant and it's not nearly as good. We've been to Penny Farthing many times and previously had a great experience eating inside. We recently ate outside and it's not the same quality. Food was barely warm, salmon sliders were dry, and the food was served in paper bowls with plastic silverware. No one in my party liked their food or drinks. The view is nice, but if you want good food and drinks, go inside. The mezze board in the main restaurant is a favorite as is the espresso martini. read more

Had a nice early dinner. Quickly & easily seated right before 3 pm on a Friday. Water was brought to the table and shortly thereafter drinks arrived. The menu is small but there were choices for each of the four of us. I had shrimp and polenta which had two chili peppers infused into the butter sauce. For me it was perfect but my wife couldn't try it because she can't handle spice at all. There was no mention of "spicy" on the menu. In the end our plates were empty. Had dinner with my wife and family. We all tried a different specialty cocktail. I had the Peach Bourbon Smash which was terrific. Everyone enjoyed their cocktails. Since lunch was at a distillery I felt obligated to try one of their aged negroni blanc cocktails. It was a tasty spin on the classic negroni cocktail. The chambrey blanc vermouth added a nice floral note. My wife and I split the bourbon crab bisque and the chicken donner sandwich. Both were tasty and good eating. The bourbon bisque had a distinct bourbon flavor and lots of crab chunks. A slight spicy bite contrasted with the richness of the cream. The chicken donner sandwich is made with a large pita. It is stuffed with tasty sauce, tomatoes and other vegetables, and lots of chicken. Splitting the two dishes gave both of us a good amount of lunch. A tasty spot for a casual bite and a cocktail in downtown. read more

I just had an excellent lunch. My friend and I decided to try Penny Farthing for the first time. It was about 12:30pm and we were the only customers. We were greeted promptly by a smiling waitperson and invited to sit anywhere we wanted. The interior is indeed a distillery and consequently has some interesting hardware to look at. The space was comfortable and clean. Menus quickly appeared. We asked about several items and were offered detailed descriptions and helpful comments. Both items we ordered were deemed, "delicious"! My Chicken Doneresque Sandwich was fresh and bursting with a symphony of flavors. It was very similar to a chicken gyro, but had many more vegetables (grilled corn, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, etc), feta cheese and a tasty white sauce. (tzatziki perhaps?) YUMMM. I came in earlier on Friday afternoon and the bartenders were very welcoming and great service. The only stars go to afternoon main bar and rooftop server), both great and explained the dog friendly space (after I had asked) for planned return in the area. On Friday night, came back with my spouse and dog, sat on those patio space, and basically was ignored. My husband had to go in for ordering after our first drink, then were charged on the bill for dessert that was never delivered. Im understanding, but this was not a busy night. Dropped in for a late lunch today. The place is very unique and pleasant . Wait staff was prompt and extremely helpful. We ordered the crab soup , flatbread, meat balls and Caesar salad . Everything was top notch . We were visiting from the east coast ( Philadelphia area) and give the entire experience a 10/10. read more

We got seated right away but the server never came back to our table to even take a drink order after 15 minutes. Ridiculously bad service. We walked out. Between the two of us, we split a small crab bisque, the strawberry salad, and the "Chicago-style 'pot still' pizza pie". It was the right amount of food for the two of us, especially hungry as we were. It was all very good. My only complaint would be that the pizza was smaller than we were expecting, especially given the price, and the pizza wasn't really anything like a deep dish pizza. I had heard great things about Penny Farthing Restaurant so I took a group there. First the good news...the facility is rather amazing with huge windows into the distillery that produces a large array of spirits. The service was excellent and the ambiance lively. I had made a reservation and they were ready for us with a nice long table. The server was gracious when we asked for separate checks. However, the food was underwhelming. One person reported no identifiable crab in the crab bisque, the pizzas were giant blobs of cheese and crust, the Caprese sandwich was tasty but diminutive, the chicken Caesar lettuce wraps were actually quite good, I wished I had ordered that. The Krampus sundaes looked good but the tiramisu, at $10, was served in a small plastic tube and looked like something from Costco. The drinks were adequate to delicious. The espresso martini was delicious. One dirty martini didn't seem to be dirty, my martini, at $13, was made with a sweet vodka which I didn't expect and I almost spit it out. I like my martinis very dry! Overall, based on their reputation, I was expecting better. read more
