When we asked about availability they immediatly made space for us knowing we were there now and ready to eat! They were pleasant, froendly and welcoming, never made us feel rushed. They took note of our food preferences (eg no nuts) and they made sure all meals were safe for everyone. And the meals, so tasty! Shrimp and pasta so good, lamb bolognese just what the person needed who was running the marathon the next day and a perfectly cooked salmon. Everything about my recent experience here deserves 6 *'s. First I'd like to give a big shout out and Thank You to our main server Ivan Duarte. Ivan was so personable and frequently checked in as to how were we doing and was everything o.k., OK, it was FABULOUS. We were a chatty bunch and he also would sweep in so quietly removing plates, always keeping our water glasses and coffee cups full. Ambiance inside - wonderful reuse of materials such as the "grater light fixtures" over the kitchen to the "spoon clock" on the wall. All casting a warm and inviting glow. Every table well set and spotless. Oh and let me also mention all the behind the scenes work was quiet as a church mouse, something myself and my senior friends always appreciate. O.K., let's talk food, presentation and timing: For starters we had - Grilled Halloumi Cheese Date & artichoke tapenade served with grilled pita - $16.50 Now I know what the "sweet dip" was and it was delicious. 2 folks had the - Fried Calamari Salad Cherry tomato, Kalamata olive, feta, spicy aioli - $19 The presentation was executed so beautifully and the portion more than plentiful. Believe me, they did not skimp on the Calamari. Thankfully my guests let me have a forkful and it was also "Delicious". I had the - Cobb Salad, Grilled marinated Mary's chicken, Applewood smoked bacon, avocado, egg, gorgonzola, cherry tomato - $21.50 I usually prefer a Bleu Cheese dressing, but the dressing they provided which I'm not sure of the ingredients paired perfectly with the salad. I always order dressing on the side so I can control the portion of dressing to the salad. Last up - Spanakopita, Hand-rolled spinach and feta stuffed pastry- $16 This order was presented with 2 very large squares of Spanakopita, Light, airy, hot and so very flavorful. Once again, executed perfectly. With little chagrin on all our faces as our plates looked as if they had been licked clean, we all dove in for dessert. We shared the Brioche Pudding - $9 which was a light airy puffy cloud on a caramel drizzle with a wee bit of ice cream served warm. We were all speechless, it was soooo good. Not like any Brioche any of us have ever had before. And 2 of these delights - Galaktoboureko Phyllo Pastry - $9 with Semolina Custard Filling, Huckleberry Compote, Almonds served HOT therefore bringing out the flavor of all the ingredients. I mention the prices as it may seem pricey, yet it's not really, due to the presentation, execution, portions and quality. I guarantee you will Not be disappointed. Grateful for the experience. Always a pleasant surprise to find weekend happy hours! Happy Hour menu available from 3-5 pm on weekends as well with food options in addition to drink discounts. I enjoyed the house red on the happy hour, which was a Syrah. From the happy hour menu we had the Mezze plate which was humongous and came with hummus and tzatziki, you could dip with either the soft pita bread, or crunchy red, bell pepper or cucumber strips. Also tried the Avgolemono soup - I always enjoy a hearty chicken and rice soup, and this one is definitely for fans of lemon forward flavoring. The Kale salad was great as well - I liked the generous amounts on crispy onions by the huge shareable salad. Came here for weekend brunch with a friend, and had a pretty good experience! The food was good, the location is nice and right in the middle of Noe Valley, and there are both indoor and outdoor (with heating) seating options. But perhaps due to the busyness of the day, the service was a bit slow for ordering/takeout box requests/bill and no mid-meal check-ins. Also, prices were on the steeper side, though I guess pretty typical for SF. I ordered the Dolores Omelette (comes with smoked salmon, goat cheese, mushrooms, scallions). The salmon was good, but along with the goat cheese just not really my taste for an omelette. I'd get something else next time, but make sure to get the potatoes--probably the best part of the meal. In the Noe Valley neighborhood of SF lies Novy, a fantastic modern Greek restaurant with a laid back vibe and delicious food. The surrounding area allows for decent parking options and the walk over no matter where you are is nice since the area itself is quaint. The interior is nice and modern although we opted to sit outside and enjoy the weather a bit. The staff was very friendly and on top of things, clearly making sure that we were happy and content with our food. Speaking of food, it was great. We ordered appetizers of grilled halloumi and fried calamari, both of which were great but with the halloumi's rich and savory flavor really standing out. After that we ordered the lamb bolognese, which again was fantastic. The thick noodles had a great chew and the bolognese was savory and had a great contrast to the feta sprinkled throughout. The portion was also pretty decent making sure we felt full by the time we left. We also ordered their flourless chocolate cake to go which we ate later and it was delicious. Overall, the meal was just great and the setting brought it up another notch. The seating host graciously greeted me and seated me at a comfy booth. So much deliciousness on the menu, but I decided to try the moussaka! A delicious dish of ground lamb, eggplant, potato, and béchamel sauce. If you've never tried it the best way to think about it is Greek lasagna. Absolutely tasty! I opted to forgo the side salad, and I wanted to try the sweet potato fries. What's one more carb with dinner?! Debating between the kale salad and the burger...not real exciting...chose the burger. I needed to sink my teeth into something substantial since it was my first food of the day. Burger was excellent and cooked perfectly! They never even asked how I wanted it cooked and it was perfection. Fries also perfectly prepared...crispy on the outside and soft in the middle...ideal. I met my youngest son in San Francisco for a special dinner (for my Birthday) and we chose NOVY in the Noe Valley neighborhood. We were fortunate to get even any dining space as we did not make reservations (not to self - next time do it). We sat at a counter and had a great meal. I ordered the Lamb Gyro along with a Pilsner and my son ordered their Pesto Pasta. After a few minutes of conversation (it was not too loud even though the restaurant was full and busy), our dinners arrived - my Gyros was a fresh pita willed with thin-sliced roasted leg of lamb accompanied by lettuce, tomato, grilled onion and of course tzatziki sauce, with garlic fries on the side. My son enjoyed his pasta dish with fresh shaved parmesan on top. We were tempted to try something for desert and ordered their Galaktoboureko to share. I had never heard of this desert but it sounded good on the menu, and it was! It's made from Phyllo Pastry with Semolina Custard Filling, a Huckleberry Compote, and Almonds on the top. It was just the right sweetness and perfect to share after a filling meal. I look forward to returning to NOVY in the future to try some of their other dishes. Parking in Noe Valley (like much of the busy neighborhoods in the city) can be a challenge. We came here on a Sunday at 10am and there was only one more table in the restaurant, so reservations at that time are not needed. It did start picking up in foot traffic closer to 11/11:30, though. My friends and I got our own dishes, which they told me were good. I got the 24th st scramble with potatoes and honestly those potatoes were one of the best potatoes I've had at a brunch. The spicing that they made them with was SO delicious. One of my friends, who is from the Mediterranean area, got the lamb Benedict and he said the lamb was really good. I love that this is a family-owned, women-owned local restaurant. That alone made me excited to try it. I met friends here for dinner and the whole experience was wonderful from start to finish. The service was fantastic and the food was truly delicious. We ordered the seafood pasta, the pesto pasta, and the grilled salmon, and everything was perfectly portioned and full of flavor. Each dish felt thoughtfully prepared and very satisfying. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, which makes it a nice option for different moods and weather. The calamari appetizer as oily, chewy and the coating was falling off. Everything was salty/over seasoned. Also, the added the SF Mandate Charge of 5.5% was included in the subtotal and taxed which is wrong and a sneaky way to get a higher tip. Our food took about 20 minutes to arrive and It took another 10-15 minutes for them to bring the card reader once we are ready to pay. I came to Novi for restaurant week this year and while the food was good, it was nothing extraordinary. If you are a fan of Mediterranean food, then you would definitely enjoy this restaurant, but for me, the flavors fell short. The hummus was creamy with some roasted tomato purée on top and the pita bread was warm and fluffy. The second course of the lamb Bolognese was also very hardy, and the sauce was quite meaty. The final course of the floorless chocolate cake was by far my favorite as the cake was filled with gooey chocolate that oozed out of it and had just the right amount of sweetness. I came here with a group for restaurant week around 8:30 pm, and since we had a reservation we were able to be seated pretty quickly. The interior is on the smaller side but it is still nice and has a modern vibe with some creative touches (like the cheese grater lamps). The service was quite good, and we were able to receive our dishes pretty quickly. For the food I decided to get the hummus, the moussaka, and the galaktoboureko. All of these dishes were well-made, and I especially liked the moussaka since it was crispy on top while having a lot of flavor inside with the beef and eggplant. The galaktoboureko was also pretty solid, as it was flaky and went well with the berry sauce surrounding it. For $45 the meal also comes with a glass of either white wine or champagne, so it's not a bad deal by SF standards. I'm jovial for NOVY! Located in the heart of San Francisco's Noe Valley neighborhood NOVY Restaurant comes from Kathryn Gianaras, who family owned the previous restaurant that once occupied this very same space on the corner of Noe and 24th Streets for so many years in Panos. In the mid-2000s, Kathryn and her sister Kristen took over the space and made it a more relaxed family-style tavern and restaurant with traditional Greek dishes sold at an affordable price point. Novy, so named after the Noe Valley neighborhood has become a local institution in its own right with modern takes on traditional Mediterranean classics. The city of San Francisco is filled with so many local restaurants that it is hard to even discover them all, so when we learned that Novy Restaurant was participating in San Francisco Restaurant Week for the spring of 2025, a group of foodies and I were all down to give them a try. What we love about San Francisco Restaurant Week is that it gives diners, both local and out-of-towners alike the chance to sample many sections of their menu for an affordable fixed price. And for forty-five dollars with three courses and a complimentary beverage which including your choice of sparkling wine, how could you go wrong with selecting NOVY Restaurant as your next place to enjoy a hearty meal? Making reservations on the OpenTable website was super easy to do, with the caveat being you can make it for a party of no more than four people online, but if you want to add an extra person or two, you must call their phone number to change your reservation, which we were easily able to do. For our first course, with six people at our table, all of us were able to enjoy one item each from their First Course section of their special menu as I ordered their Avgolemono, which is a traditional Greek egg-lemon soup served with rice and chicken. Others ordered their Dolmas, which were a combination of rice, golden raisins, pine nuts, mint and dill wrapped in grape leaves; and their Hummus which was topped with sundried tomato relish and served with grilled pita. I liked by soup first course, but did not love it, as the chicken was was too dry for my taste. For our second course I enjoyed their Moussaka, which was a combination of ground lamb, sliced eggplant, potato topped with Béchamel. Others enjoyed their Lamb Bolognese which was bucatini pasta topped with lamb ragu, Mediterranean spices and feta cheese. I really liked the overall heartiness and flavor of my Moussaka, as it is a rare Greek treat that can only be made and enjoyed at just the right place and NOVY Restaurant is one of those places. I also enjoyed a little sample of the Bolognese and it too was cooked to perfection as it was seasoned and prepared with thoughtfulness of a high-end Italian restaurant. For our third and final course, we had the option of ordering their Galaktoboureko, which was a custard stuffed filo pastry topped with huckleberry preserves and toasted almonds, and their Flourless Chocolate Cake which was topped with chocolate ganache. I really liked my Galaktoboureko which was like a flan dessert wrapped in puff pastry. Sipping on a nice glass of prosecco from their wine on tap menu only added to the overall lively atmosphere that NOVY Restaurant provides. Plus for our non-alcoholic beverage drinkers to be able to enjoy their Fentimans Rose Lemonade was a nice extra touch that proves that NOVY Restaurant goes above and beyond to shower their customers with extra love. With gratuity already added in for our party of six, it was an affordable and tasty meal that we would not otherwise have enjoyed if it wasn't for their participation in San Francisco Restaurant Week. Even without, I am guaranteed to return for many more visits to try additional entrees on their menu. From their pastas to their salads NOVY Restaurant clearly knows what their customers want, affordable entrées made with Mediterranean flair and flourish, which makes me say Opa! all night long! read more

The food is great, the service is professional and friendly. But... I'm having dinner at Novy and these parents are letting their kids run in and out of the restaurant and the parklets. Don't they realize how dangerous this is? Servers are carrying heavy hot plates of food trying not to trip over them. The kids are squealing and screaming! I told the parents it's dangerous, as I have worked in lots of restaurants. The dad said " that's why it's called a family restaurant". I used to work in " family restaurants back in the day, and the manager would ask parents to keep their kids at their table, for everyone's safety and comfort. I know Noe Valley has lots of families, and They like kids, have lots of nieces and nephews, but the entitlement some people exhibit is mind-boggling. Like they don't have any common sense or regard for other people when it comes to their kids behavior in shared public spaces. read more

Took the kids and and our friends' kids out for a nice dinner in SF. We were surprised by how crowded Novy was on a weeknight! The menu was perfect for the adults and also for the kids. They had burgers and fries, the adults had Greek salads and grilled salmon plates. We shared appetizers - halloumi, olives, hummus - and a carafe of really good sangria. Service was kind but also slow because of the size of the crowds - they could use another waiter here. If you want to avoid the noise, there's always the option to sit outside. (The only downside, of course, being the cold fog). Note that they close around 8:30 PM, so don't plan on staying late, drinking wine and gabbing with friends - you will be kicked out! read more

That was well over ten years ago. Wished they still served it. The leg of lamb gyro wrap was the best I've had in the Bay Area. An ample portion of seasoned moist lamb. I especially appreciate that they accommodate large groups so well. It is a wonderful option to take folks who are visiting from out of town. Well, this was the first time I was at NOVY restaurant. My friend who lives nearby, took me out with another friend to this place for dinner. The ambiance was very relaxing, casual but classy. My friend had ordered some appetizers to share and some main dishes. There was a total of three of us in the party. I ordered a kale salad with grilled salmon. When it came out, it looked so delicious, smelled so good and fresh Upon tasting it, I devoured the salad. It was plenty where you are satisfied, but not feeling stuffed. My two other friends ordered the lamb gyro and moussaka as their main dishes. The food looked and smelled so good. They were pleased with their dishes. We shared the grilled halloumi, which I had never tried and was such a great plate to share. The dolmas also were a nice plate to share and tasty. The service was great, with our server being very attentive and wait time was minimal. It should also be noted, we went during a Thursday evening so it was not too busy. We did have reservations, which I would always suggest as this place can be busy. Parking is street metered with some small lots nearby also metered.
