After driving for a few hours up the California coast, I wanted seafood and I wasn't going to stop until I found it. And not just fried fish and chips, I wanted something grilled or baked or such. I wanted FISH. I satisfied the craving here. Busy but not too much so on a Saturday evening, I was lucky to find a parking space that fit the Sprinter van and there was no wait for a table at the restaurant. But that was on a chilly and rainy May evening. In full season on a beautiful day in the summer, you'll probably have a different experience. I chose the grilled salmon (it's under the mango relish) and that was only after confirming that it was local fish and not trucked in. I expected more out of the clam chowder it was was not creamy and really lacked in flavor. I was recommended to try this place during a boat tour and it did not disappoint. I came here around 4:30 on a Saturday and got seated shortly after. However, when I was done eating, there was a long line of people waiting. Definitely make a reservation, especially if you want to sit at a window seat to see the harbor or come earlier to avoid the wait. The seafood was extremely fresh and delicious and it's priced fairly. My girlfriend had the filet mignon and said it was good as well. Everything here is organic and local also! The service is super friendly and despite being busy, our waitress made sure to always check up on us and see if we needed anything else. I would not recommend this place or ever go back. If you like food without flavor , then this is the place for you. Our waiter was nice and timely but we spent $70 on food we barely ate. Everything was so bland and tasteless , it was really sad because we were so hungry and looking forward to it. The clam chowder was so watery , no thickness at all , I had to try and add salt and hot sauce to try and flavor it up. The calamari had a weird texture and was not good. The creamy garlic chicken felt cold when it arrived and old maybe like it was frozen food? We here last night for dinner while we were camping this weekend for Memorial Day Weekend. We sat outside in the outdoor dining area. It had heaters and wind screens around the outside area. Our meal was really good. Very nice serving sizes and the fish was super fresh along with nice size cuts of fish. I ordered fettuccini with pesto with Fish. They laid a nice piece of Rock Cod that was cooked to perfection right over the fettuccini (see picture below). My daughter had the Grilled Salmon which she enjoyed. My wife and son-in-law had the Rock Cod Piccata which they both enjoyed. I ordered a martini that was poured table side and was very reasonably priced and was made really well. The service here was a little slow to start off since we sat in the bar and the bartender seemed busy. But the view was enough to keep us in our seats. We were there for happy hour, and they have some interesting yummy things on their menu. We had the calamari and ahi appetizers, local beers on tab, and the best clam chowder I've had in a long time. Very disappointing! We showed up for our dinner reservation at the Harbor Drive location to find it was closed but thanks to a passerby he told us they had moved and where to find them. Note: they are still showing their old address on their website, Yelp, Google Maps, etc. So not a good start to our dinner. The new location (1011 S Main St, Ft. Bragg) certainly looks like a significant upgrade from the old, is quite spacious with multiple levels of seating areas to provide more tables with a better view of the Noyo River Inlet. We were quickly seated however it was a wait until our waiter appeared. He was nice enough but seemed in a rush each time he visited the table. One of us ordered Fish and Chips and the other Shrimp and Chips. The fish was small and the fish contained lots of dark areas which looked bad and tasted STRONG. The shrimp were nicely sized and tasty however, again, a small portion. The chips (FFs) were straight out of a frozen food bag and tasteless. This place was recommended by the Holiday Inn front desk ! So happy that we ate here especially after our rocky start to our trip. We were very hungry after our drive and getting settled into our hotel so we went big with dinner. The restaurant is owned and operated by a Latino family the Medinas and they pay homage to the matriarch of the family as you walk in you can feel the family vibes and believe me you can taste it as well. Great little find on the mouth of the Noyo River Harbor. This place had good reviews, a diverse menu and competitive pricing. It was worth it. In appearance the restaurant is a combination of divey, funky and romantic with both indoor and outdoor seating. There was a solo guitarist singer playing outside, too. Outdoor eating is covered and has heaters plus lighting, indoors looks out to the mouth of the harbor and where the live music was. Great menu including sea food, fish and chips, pasta, shrimp, chicken and salads plus a variety of appetizers. I ordered the coconut shrimp as my appetizer; huge made on site shrimp with a generous coconut batter. I ordered the fish and chips for dinner; a generous portion of fresh, good quality fish and fresh skin on fries. My meal was amazing! The price was excellent. Although the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing, the food was mediocre at best. The prime rib was not worth the $50. The worst part was the ants that were on the table and eventually in my husband's plate. They were also on the check when the server picked it up. Once we let her know, it was just an "oh yeah they come out after it rains." Which is understandable but don't seat people directly against the window!! She even got me to order another round of drinks and I do not regret it, my special Paloma was 100% We had another waitress at first but I'm so glad we ended up with Brie. We came in for lunch and were warmly greeted. As others have mentioned, this place has great views for most every table. We saw that they offered local wines, which is always a plus for us. We asked and were told that they make their own beer batter. So we ordered the fish & chips platter, the combo (fish, shrimp, scallops & chips) platter, and a cup of chowder. The platters were really good! The fish were incredibly moist and the batter was very light. The chowder was just OK. We saw someone at the next table heavily salt and pepper theirs for what seems like minutes. When we tasted ours, we saw why. We were in town a couple weeks ago and dinner at Noyo River Grill was a highlight of our trip! We were able to sit outside to enjoy a beautiful sunset just before we dined and the service was phenomenal! My husband and I happened to be in town for "Fort Bragg's Restaurant Month" and were lucky to enjoy a three course dinner, including wine (I had the Husch La Blanc and my husband was able to substitute an IPA) for only $32. For course 1, we had the house salad and crispy fried calamari. For course 2, we had the Rock Cod Piccata and the Shrimp Scampi-- so good! Course 3 was an outstanding Dark Chocolate Mousse with salted toasted almonds and homemade whipped cream. My husband doesn't even eat dessert but he devoured every spoonful! There were outdoor heaters to keep us warm but when it got dark and a little chillier, they invited us to come under the tent for warmth and music. I really sympathize with our server) but she was super efficient & quick . Well it was extremely hot outside so needed some chilled beer to cool down. We first ordered a glass of North coast Pilsner , it was fantastic so we ordered 2 pitchers of beer after that along with food. For food we ordered- Wontons 6pc- Shrimp, cream cheese, green onion, ginger, garlic. Ceviche- cucumber, shrimp, lemon, cilantro, tomato, house-made chips. Well seasoned and the sauce they drizzle on top added a nice creamy texture that well combined with the fish, cabbage, and tortilla. Fish and chips: 8/10. Solid, especially with malt vinegar. I found a new love for malt vinegars Oysters and chips: 8.5/10. Never thought of fried oysters some reason, but it was good here! Didn't taste too oceanic either but rather clean seafood taste. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nicer, more scenic dinner in Ft. Bragg. I've been to the NRG twice for dinner since they moved to their new location overlooking the mouth of the Noyo River. You can't beat the view (I recommend tables 31 or 41), the interior is welcoming, comfortable and clean, and the staff are uniformly excellent.
