Came in on a rainy downpour Saturday night and was surprised to see some people here; its much smaller than the pics would indicate; a small tucked away space on Westwood Blvd. The inside seats only 24, and was very anxious to try the famed iskender kebab and doner (Turkish Gyro), which an authentic one has countlessly eluded me and failed just about everywhere in the city. Immediately me and my wife smelled the whiff of windex as we noticed each table was being cleaned after it was left by dining patrons; in a small square space, this was a bit nauseating. Also, tables did not have a single condiment; ketchup for fries, hot sauce for meats, or spices, napkins etc. nothing. Have to ask for everything. Ok ready to eat. First ordered lahmajun, a thin Turkish Pizza if you will, with ground beef. Taste-wise was good but dish came out cold, a big no-no. This always should be served hot n crispy. Took most home to reheat in toaster. Was very good next day hot n toasty. The Iskender Doner Kebab was indeed good and had that rare Turkish smoke and taste, unlike the fake-ass ones dominating most of the city. It was smothered in the tomato sauce (bit too much) and had unnecessary fries sandwiched in between the meat and yogurt, (better to have on side) but it was a solid A-. Finally have a source for Doner, albeit a 20 mile drive. The manti (Turkish ravioli) was another hit; however, it was also barely lukewarm. Had to ask for it to be reheated. Taste was a solid B+/A-. Could use some more sumac which was brought when asked, and was served on a plate which was odd; this dish is traditionally served in a bowl to retain heat. The kunefe (desert) was an A+. If you haven't eaten this (and I hate deserts) try it. Its a crispy exterior and gooey cheese inside, terrific. Met the owners and they were friendly. Will probably be back on sunnier days for the Doner. read more

Highly recommend this place. Have been to many Turkish restaurants. This is the best so far. Food is so delicious and prices are good. You must try the iskender kebab and manti. I was very excited to bring my mom here for dinner but I greatly regret it.Terrible service. Ruined our day, we felt discriminated against. People that arrived after us were attended quickly while they kept us waiting just to take our orders. Then after almost an hour wait people who again arrived after us had their food rushed to them. I waited 30 minutes for cold food. It was only after I brought it to their attention that they went to go get my meal. There are no prices on the menu, and they didn't inform me that I would be responsible for the credit card processing fee, in which case, I would have just paid cash. The workers did not have any identifiable uniforms so I'm just stuck there standing helplessly waiting for someone to help me when apparently the employees were just chilling with the other people (either customers or presumably other employees), they all had their laptops out and didn't seem to be working. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the situation, perhaps they are doing work on the laptop, who knows. But when I get such bad service and receive a tiny meal, it leaves a lot to be desired. This is the new kid on the block, sitting where Westwood Cafe used to sit. I found out about this new cafe when I was in the area on business. It was, in fact, the height of the pandemic in LA when I first saw it, and I was curious to try it out. I had the pleasure of eating here the other day. I parked along Westwood Blvd on a weekday morning, which was a time when parking is easy to find here. I walked in to fine cafe, and was greeted warmly by the two workers here. I checked out their menu, and decided to go with the chicken kebab plate. This included rice, salad, and naan. The chicken was well prepared, with a nice mix of spices, and served in generous portions! The bed of rice underneath was soft and warm. The salad served as a perfect complement to the meal. While I waited for my food to be ready, I sipped on my latte and ate some pastries. The latte was well made. It was delicious, and packed a strong punch. The pastries were good, with the baklava taking the gold among the three I had that day. This place is a five star experience all around! The two time that I've been here, they have treated me like gold! The excellent customer service, and the delicious food, will keep me coming back here for lunch. Thanks for the great experience! I walked in without even knowing what type of food was offered. Saw that it was Mediterranean food and wasn't sure what to order. I took advice from the kind man behind the counter and ordered beef doner. When it came, it was a huge plate with lots of beef, fresh salad, rice and pita. I can't get over how delicious it was. I ate every bit - I was such a glutton, but it was sooooo delicious. This little hidden gem is admist a sea of Perisan eateries on busy Westwood Blvd. It's Turkish complete with Turkish food and drink at very modest prices. You order at the counter and it is fast casual style. We had just finished dinner and they have excellent looking desserts but we were both stuffed. My friend ordered a Turkish coffee which he said was excellent. I will be back to try their Turkish entrees, salad, dessert, and beverages. I wanted a quick nice cup of coffee and maybe a snack while I did some studying. Oddly, I was told that they only have Turkish coffee at the time, none of the other lattes or cappuccinos on the menu. I enjoyed my coffee with a slice of baklava. The Turkish coffee and pistachio baklava was good. I was in the shop for a little over an hour studying, but was interrupted when I was told to move because they had a party of 6 coming in. I looked up to see the cafe was completely empty and I was not quite sure why I had to pack up and move to another table. I believe that the person who asked me to move was not the owner, but maybe a friend of the worker, and it seems that they just wanted to use that corner of the cafe for their own small gathering. Food is the closest thing to the real deal in Turkey. I grew up eating Turkish food and go to Turkey often so I tend to be bias with restaurants. My sister and I split the Iskander Kebap and it was delicious. The food was fresh, hot, and made with quality ingredients. Reading some of the other reviews, yes, there is a little bit of a wait for your food but I'd rather wait for my food to be freshly prepared with quality ingredients and good service than receive my food quick with lack of quality or service. The only complaint I would say is the food was a little on the salty side. read more

I started with a turkish coffee which tasted like the one I tried at the Grand Bazaar. Of coursen this was accompanied with some sweets. I especially love the baba ganouj. Whoever cooks the food here seems to be attentive. The rice, salad, meat, everything was at the right temperature. Turkish coffee is very interesting. Turkish tea is nice too, tastes almost like Chinese herbal drink (in a pleasant way). The regular baklava is just alright nothing special. The pistachio rolls are great. This is definitely one of my new go-to's for coffee and sweet treats in Westwood! Nuka Cafe is a new Mediterranean cafe that offers a wide variety of coffee, pastries, desserts, smoothies, and more! From the wide selection their offered, I decided on an iced latte to see how it compared to the other coffee shops here in Westwood.. and I loved it! Their coffee is strong and not watered down or diluted with milk at all like other places. My friend and I also tried their pistachio baklava. It was truly exceptional - flaky and the perfect balance of sweetness and nuttiness. It went perfectly with out coffee. The lady (who presumably owns the cafe) also offered us delicious cookies she made herself! They were pleasantly crumbly and lightly sweet, another great pairing with our coffee. After visiting their website to learn more about their cafe, I found that Nuka also offers a delicious array of Turkey Lentil soup, chicken wraps, falafel platters, kebabs, salads, tarts and even traditional Turkish coffee! The selection is excitingly endless. In short, the Turkish hospitality Nuka provides here definitely sets it apart from any other place here in Westwood.
