A cute little dumpling place in a fun part of town? Yum! I had the spicy wontons here, admittedly close to when they were preparing to close. Still, my order was hot and delicious - and definitely hit the spot for me. The interior is small and the tables are a bit worn in, but that shouldn't scare you away. Seems like a good place for a quick lunch or a grab-and-go snack. My order only took about 8-10 minutes, not long at all. There were plenty of other folks waiting on soups and dumplings and boba milk tea, and they all seemed to get their orders in a reasonable amount of time, too. CONVENIENT BUT MID Here's the thing, I've come here on multiple occasions and everytime me and my girlfriend finish our food we just tell ourselves at least there was a dumpling option amongst all the bar foods. Sometimes you just need some dumplings. Unfortunately, the food doesn't really have much flavor so we soak everything in the chili oil and soy sauce ourselves. But for 33 dollars for rice and 10 dumplings It should probably taste better. Not including a little tip for the worker. Another thing that doesn't help is the lack of air conditioning. I went here for dinner and ordered shrimp dumplings, shrimp and crab shu mai, a Thai iced tea, and two mango mochi. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. They initially did not bring out the mango mochi at all, so I had to ask for them. The owner brought only one, and I had to explain that I ordered two. Then the cashier came over holding the mochi in his bare hand and placed it directly onto my Styrofoam container. This was extremely unsanitary, and I had to complain about it. This place is unclean, over-priced, and lacking in quality. The Kung Pao chicken was not good and quite expensive at $15 for a small portion. I watched an entire family walk out after taking a look around the place. Why do people think that all you have to do is open a restaurant and then you're done? If you want to survive a competitive market, clean the dining area, serve your sauces in actual containers instead of plastic cups. I'd say the price point between Din Tai Fung and this place are pretty similar, but given the choice, I'd go to DTF. My parents and I ordered the XLB, black garlic noodles, and fried rice. The XLB were are broken and torn apart before we even got them, so we weren't even able to enjoy the juicy broth - the most important part of the XLB. The dumpling skin was super thick and doughy, which makes me wonder how the dumplings managed to tear and allow the broth to escape. The black garlic noodles weren't too exciting. The black garlic beef noodles were okay. It's not something I would try again as the garlic was a little too much for my liking. My partner has been wanting to go to this spot since last year and we finally made it. The guy who was at the cash register greeted us as we walked inside and took our order as well. He was friendly and patient since we(mainly my partner) were looking at their menu items. We ordered their "handmade" pork dumplings and their chicken fried rice. Their "handmade" pork dumplings tasted like they were reheated food not handmade. My partner tried the sauces to if it would make them taste edible enough to eat but sadly that was not the case. It was so disappointing since my partner was planning on buying dumplings to go. 1/5 Rating for their "handmade" pork dumping. The fried rice was 2.8/5 due to its lack of seasoning and flavor. The interior was bright with all their beautiful parrot chandeliers and the rest of the lighting. It's a very spacious area, especially great for big parties. Overall, our experience with the food we had was not the best. I guess we had high expectations, especially my partner due to the high ratings on Yelp and Google. However, the customer service from the guy who greeted us and took our orders was superb. Hence, the total of three stars and not one or two. The Spicy Wonton Soup was flavorful, the Black Garlic Fried Noodles with chicken was unique and tasty, in addition to the yummy Vegan Dumplings. What I loved about this place is that the food was very fresh and healthy, yet still incredibly tasty and creative. You can tell the owners really put their heart and soul into this place. The parking here is a bit hard to find. The place is clean, and they use paper containers to serve. The food really look nothing like the pictures. The soup dumplings was broken, I don't know if they over cooked it or the skin is just not good. The pan fried chicken is really nothing special. The spicy wontons sauce really save it all. The wonton is alright but the sauce is good, so I ended up using the spicy sauce for the other dishes. They don't have their own soy sauce, so you will get the packaging ones with high sodium. Amazing place! It's around Orange circle near a ramen place. I came here craving spicy dumplings, and I end d up also getting a drink and the pork egg rolls. Delicious is the best way to describe it. I got the spice medium and it's spicy enough for me, and I love spicy food. Service was amazing, the person at the front register explained all the items and what substitutions could and couldn't be made, and the entire time she did it with a smile. The interior is very modern and minimalist, with plenty of seating for dining in. It was empty when we stopped by on a weekday night. I suggest looking at the menu beforehand because you place your order at the register when you walk in. The employee was polite but not friendly or talkative. We ordered one noodle plate and two dumpling plates with no drinks and the total was $50. For the quality you get, the food is for sure overpriced. I come here often because the spicy shrimp wontons are so good. I have tried the soup dumplings and the chicken wings but I was not sold on those dishes. I was here Monday evening 9/8 and for the most part I like it here or at least the food here. The worker this day was sitting with their boyfriend at the table and jumped up when I walked in. I was asked if I was ready to order and I said yes, but they continued to finish up their conversation and good byes. This could have waited until after I ordered and left because the boyfriend was still going to be there and I, a paying customer, just wanted to get my order in... It is never busy when I come in and usually people take the food to-go since everything comes in to-go packaging anyways. I'm not sure if it is a combination of free time and inexperience (usually it is high schoolers/ college students working the front) that creates this kind of slacking off but it was very noticeable this day. The chicken and XLB dumplings are just okay. The soy garlic chicken is my favorite flavor and I like that the fries come very peppery but sometimes they actually don't put pepper so I'm not sure about that inconsistency. As a half Chinese person who's eaten at dozens of Chinese dumpling restaurants, I haven't had worse Chinese food and especially horrible XLB dumplings in my entire life. If you're Chinese, just try it out once and you'll know exactly what I mean. Other reviews have similar commentary. XLB dumpling is terrible. Skin is so thick and it's soggy and overcooked. See my up-close picture of the dough. It is honestly worse than the frozen Bibigo XLB dumplings from Costco. They charge $14 for that crap. Din tai fung is only $15.50 and the quality is thousands of times better. The fact that the owners taste the XLB they made at their store and are willing to sell it to people is pretty infuriating. Beef pancake roll is dry and too thick and every beef roll should have plum sauce. This had nothing and tasted like wood. Also they give you 4 little pieces. Garlic beef noodle was tolerable except for the fact it randomly had cheese in it and the bell peppers they "stir fried" into it were pretty much raw. If you must come here the only pretty good thing is the spicy wonton dumplings. Not many complaints on that one. Also, on top of the bad food, the atmosphere is terrible. Like other reviews stated it smells like sewage. The tables are all sticky and dirty and it's deafening silence in there and there's nothing on the walls. I was in the area and decided to check out some restaurants. This dumpling place popped up so I drove to the spot. This restaurant is located in a downtown area that's pretty nice to walk around at night and also quiet. On to the food... Their garlic noodle with beef is light tasting and refreshing. The beef is very tender and mixes very well with the sauce for the noodles. The XLB dumplings are juicy, filled with soup, and a nice tasted of ginger inside. My boyfriend and I had decided to check out Old Towne and while walking around we came across this place and I'm so glad we did! We were the only two people dining at the time which was a little off putting seeing as the crowd really sets the stage sometimes but I'm so overjoyed that it didn't stop us. The restaurant is a little smaller but it doesn't seem to be a problem since there aren't many people who come here apparently. I thought I ordered chicken pot stickers. I don't remember there being much chicken inside of it. It was kinda mushy on the inside and didn't taste much different than frozen pot stickers that you buy from the grocery store. What a shame. The place is not too big but has plenty of cafeteria like seats and have a table outside as well. When I was ordering, the guy who ran up my order didn't seem welcoming and was kinda rushing me to order. I order the juicy XL bao, pork and veggie dumplings and the garlic stir fry noodles. I was about to order the kung pao chicken with rice and asked if they can separate the rice and the king pao chicken. I was kinda shocked when he said no. He kept saying we can't do that?!? Like what do you mean they "can't" do it. It's not like it's fried rice it's a bed of rice and they put the kung pao chicken on top but instead I want it separate. I don't understand that they "can't" do that. The bill came out to be 40$ for 3 items. The food came out one by one with to go box containers. Out of all three items the only one that was not bad was the garlic stir fry noodles! It wasn't overly sauced or heavily on the seasoning which I liked and they loaded up so much of chicken and veggies. The dumplings are worst dumplings I have ever tasted. The pork and veggie dumpling skin was thick and had no flavor. The worst of all was the xl bao. I was so disappointed in those. They over cook it so much the skin is soggy and ripped. No "juicy" soup was in there and no flavor at all. The flavors of their dumplings don't have that Asian flavor to it. It doesn't taste authentic at all and the meat has a slimy feel to it. The food was good, but I would have to say the young man behind the counter was great! Very respectful, very helpful and when I asked him to change the music, he didn't even hesitate. While we waited, someone came to our table and gave us disposable bowls, utensils, and sauces for our dishes. Our food came out a bit after that, and it smelled great! Right off the bat, the portions were big and we were eager to eat. The black garlic noodles were packed with fresh and crispy garlic and topped with a generous amount of veggies, tofu, and cheese. All of the dumplings were flavorful. The pan fried dumplings were crispy, and the chicken dumplings were juicy. Both were stuffed with their respective fillings, and they were even better dipped in the sauces they provided us. We had a good experience here, and would say that this spot is worth giving a try!
