I don't know how O'Reilly offers battery testing and installation -- but they do AND IT'S AN AWESOME SERVICE!!! I have a complicated BMW x5. The battery is in back and it's the size of 2 big batteries and looks like something at an IT server farm! Jerry at the Castro Valley O'Reilly's spent an hour testing, then removing, and finally replacing my battery. A dealer would have kept my car for 3 days and charged me $1500 or more to change the battery. Instead, I bought a new $300 battery and Jerry did a masterful job installing it. And all the while, he was patient, friendly, leaving me feel like my buddy was helping me fix my car. Nice local store with great customer service. I came in a little panicked because my transmission light was on. I was able to get some immediate help reading the code for the problem and then I got a confidence boost and was told how easy the part would be to change on my own. Their help saved me a large mechanic bill and I was able to quickly take care of the problem with the part they had in stock. I really appreciated the help! The prices are really out of control. I had purchased some Bosch ceramic rear brake pads for my Accord for $26 plus tax from Amazon. They needed to be returned and I was in a rush, so I went to O'Reilly. $72 plus tax for the O'Reilly brand ceramic brake pads. If my car hadn't been up on a jack stand with the old pads already removed, I would have waited for a replacement from Amazon. I wouldn't mind paying maybe $10 more than online, but we're talking almost triple the cost. Quite a ripoff. Now you've been warned. read more

Even though the staff was busy, the person helping me was friendly and helpful! I can back within a couple of minutes since I needed to purchase a crescent-wrench for quick repair on my Harley. The same person who helped me earlier, reminded me that they have tools to lend for a quick repair. I decently moved into they area and started buy items at this particular auto part store. Everyone has been incredibly helpful. So far everything i've bought with them has been great. I had recently had to have my ac processor in my nissan replaced....part was good. Also, just today, I need a new battery installed, and they told me to come in and they would install it for me. Joe came and installed the new battery and was very pleasant to talk with. What you need to do is call a head of time to check for parts and/or to see if they have enough staff to handle what you need. So far so good. Much better than the O'Reilly's in Union City on Decoto.....they have idiots that work there, can't even change wipers correctly! Happy that at least this auto part store has good customer service....maybe just make sure you get the right people to help with your needs. read more

Had another great experience at the Castro Valley O'Reilly. This time I came in for windshield wipers and an AC recharge kit. Mark was super helpful, spending extra time tracking down the wiper blade I needed in their inventory. He also installed them for me, then took some time to show me where the AC port is on my engine and to make sure I understood how to use the kit. With this being the highest rated o'reilly's location near me I just don't understand how. BEYOND frustrated. So my fiancé had purchased two shocks about two months ago or less. Well we had lost the receipt. We called the location a week prior asking if we could still refund since we have the membership which actually keeps track of every receipt we should have had. Going In this morning for a refund. He calls me stating how they rejected his service of refund due to "not finding" the receipt in the system. On top of the fact that the two employees that work working had HORRIBLE customer service, rude & not accommodating what so ever! So I call back asking the names of the workers, well she didn't even give me her name or the other employee's and went on about how they weren't rude ect. Whatever her excuse may be. She said she did everything she could. But now I know how her customer service was with him just off the bat of the way she handled our phone conversation! However she answered the phone in the beginning and gave the name of Julia which later I found out was the manager. So I called another location, asking if they could see our transactions in every location, he stated yes. So I give him the name on file plus the item numbers to look up. HE FINDS THE RECEIPT IN LESS THEN TWO MINUTES!! How did he find it, but they couldn't? Doesn't make sense to me. So now I'm left with the question of why they denied our service? Why they couldn't just override the refund like the employee from the other location stated he could do? This use to be our go to location since I live on San Miguel. But now I have to drive to San Lorenzo due to the horrible experience you guys have given us today! read more

The guys that have helped me check my battery, put windshield wipers and select the right oil have always been very willing to go the extra mile to make sure I purchased the correct products and that it be installed properly. In various occasions throughout the years living in town they have either installed new wipers and even helped me change lightbulbs. On the other hand, I do take in consideration that Covid took a lots away from everywhere but these types services are most important to women who are limited in carrying heavy parts, installing a light bulb and changing wipers which neither of the young girls that worked at this store where unwilling to help on. Hence, When I asked for help with the right oil bottle or finding other products in store they had simply given me a aisle number and told me that I will see it. This is Not what an independent strong women do! We try hard and if we still don't know the shop we try even harder and do it with pride. I'm all in favor of females doing all types of job but recognizing that you Do Not like the job is important for everyone's then there are those girls who loves the tools, oil and gas to say the least . He was very knowledgeable and let me know what I could buy to prevent future acid build ups in my new battery. I am a long time customer and almost everytime they are helpful and understanding. ******HOWEVER*****Absolutely DO NOT go to this location! I have NEVER been more disrespected in my life. I went in for a simple part when a woman named Kayla approached me in one of the aisles and questioned if i was done and ready to leave the store. She followed this with accusing me of stealing multiple products. Very confused, I asked what products she had seen. I confidently requested an answer about what she believed Was taken. I was holding my three products in my hands and damn near had my pocket sticking out of my pants showing they were empty. However she STILL was demanding I pay for items that were not in my possession at ANY TIME. I then noticed her walking into the back to double check security cameras only to find out that she was in the wrong.
